Not getting into a whole lot today. Heading to town to get that pack I was looking at to make a go bag. Current one is a bit to small since I’ve added a few more things. Also need some wet dog food and dog biscuits. Forgot to get some the other day. Then will head to church for Good Friday service. Last Fish Fry today. Take out only. And then come home and take dogs for a walk. We go twice a day now that days are longer. But today they will have to settle for one. Piper gave me a laugh yesterdsy when we took our evening walk up the road. She and my neighbors dogs always have to have a barking fest when we get down by their house. Neighbor lets them out and they run to the fence barking like crazy. So we stop to visit and Piper and the dogs have their conversation. Interesting listening to them “talk”. The different pitches in their barks and the number of barks at a time. They are definitely carrying in a conservation. Last night as we were walking toward neighbors, dogs came flying out the dog door, barking like crazy. Piper was concentrating on them so intently and throwing g out some barks, that she walked smack into In to the snowbank at the edge of the neighbors drive next door Molly just watches. She’s never been a barker.

Goi g to get my blueberries and finish breakfast, thrn off to the shower and start my day. Have a great day everyone.

Morning Sue and All, 57°cloudy and showers for today and tomorrow. Sunny for Easter Sunday and dinner at #1 daughters. Heavy t-storm went through last night but the winds came from the north side of the building.I have Amazon packages at daughters which I will pick up Sunday. A shade cloth to protect balcony garden from intense summer sun and bird droppings. #2 daughter found a mesh laundry bag for the strawberries at her mess Dollar Tree. I’m having second thoughts about a tall tomato plant with the frequent severe wind storms lately. Tree pollen is high as is the humidity, darn. Sue, I have noticed the dog greetings here since there seems to be waking schedules. Sue, I love fish fries. First winter on the eastern shore we were invited to a fish fry hosted by some local natives. It was held on the edge of the river and when we arrived they were washing a frying pan the size of a kiddy pool. They used river sand and and water. Yuck There was a huge bonfire, an old cast iron Dutch oven with biscuit dough. Lost count of how many pounds of lard went in that pan. Best fish I ever had along with a chunk of hot Biscuit and your Fanny close to the fire. Memories. Lol Be safe

Sue, thanks for posting that map. I had looked at Gaylord on Zillow a while back, but somehow missed that you were in the middle of the mitten (more or less!).

Being as how you are surrounded by water on three sides, it seems even more odd that a tornado hit near you there.

Have there been other tornadoes in your area of Michigan?

Anne, the answer is the State as a whole has around 15 a year. The average being EF-O -EF-1. Sometimes an EF-2 will pop up as was the case downstste last week. Teagan has not seen any EF for a tornado since 1977. https://www.petoskeynews.com/story/news ... /45218159/

The EF-3 that hit Gaylord last May, was a very rare exception and the first EF-3 to ever hit Northern Michigan. Usually the Great Lakes will knock any storms coming across down. They can reform once thry hit land. But this particular storm did not fall apart as it came across the lake and started to intensify once it hit land. This county has been hit by. I think something like four tornadoes that were actually confirmed since 1950 and they were all babies. EF-0 or 1. They pretty much just mow down a bunch of trees for a short distance, and they’re gone. We had a EF-0 one about 3 miles south of me, a few yeas ago, that came down and went back up so fast at the weather service didn’t even catch it on the radar. But it did a nice job of mowing some trees down. Later the NWS went back over the radar record and found it. Sneaky little one.

It could be a sign that the climate is changing, and the storms are getting stronger and not breaking down. We can and do have severe storms that can cause damage in themselves, and occasionally one might have straight line winds which can cause damage as bad as a tornado. But we can go and entire summer and maybe not have one thunderstorm or if we do have one it’s just your usual routine so much thunderstorm and that’s it. Like the NWS said, these lakes make their own Weather.

The line of rain didn't get here until about 11:30 last night. It was angled from West of here to the Northeast and Lafayette got the bad weather. My son's dog is afraid of the thunder and lightening so he was not happy. There is 2 1/2 inches in the rain gauge. The radar shows rain all over the state but it's only raining off and on here this morning. I went to let one of the cats in after it started raining and I was surprised at how cool it was. Yesterday it was 87 and when the front got here it dropped to 60.

When you order crawfish it comes with a couple of potatoes boiled with the crawfish. I saved them and made hash browns for breakfast. Good Friday is the big crawfish day in the state. A lot of people have crawfish boils for their family and friends. My neighbors usually have one but since the local store sells boiled crawfish they might just pick some up. I got mine in yesterday ahead of the rush.

We had a tornado years go while we were still living in the old house. I happened to be in the bathroom and like they say it sounded like a train. It was night and we didn't see any damage to the house. The next day we saw that it had pulled a 3 sided barn in the pasture up and laid it on it's roof. The legs of the barn had been 3 foot in the ground. For hurricane Lily we think it was a tornado that tried to blow the carport roof over the house. The roof part made it over but one of the legs with a big chunk of concrete went thru the roof in the living room.

I don't know what I'll do today. Probably not much.

Good afternoon. Another rainy morning but afternoon is just cloudy with patches (small) of blue. It is warm outside tho 63 right now. But there is a breeze so I am staying inside, hopefully better tomorrow. I wanted to spray my weeds today but cannot do it in the wind.

I haven't done much today. Feeling kind of like a slug. Cleaned the bathrooms and watched Henry vacuum LOL Now sitting having a hazelnut mocha and done for the day. Read a bit of my book but just wasnt into it so moved on to the tv. Not into that either but maybe I can find something to hold my interest for a while. Have dinner that I made yesterday, either hamburger rice casserole or lasagna, depends what I feel like as it gets closer. I froze the rest for a later date. On those days I just dont feel like cooking. Not eating anything special for Easter......maybe a personal pizza ha ha

Living in a Detroit suburb, we seldom got any effects from the lakes because the prevailing winds are using from the west, northwest, or north, and there is a lot of land between them and Detroit. The other place in the Great Lakes that DOES get a lot of lake effect snow is the strip of shore from just west of Cleveland all the way to Buffalo and maybe 30 miles south of that strip. My younger son lives about 20 miles southeast of Cleveland, so they get a lot of snow, but if you drive ten miles south, not so much. On the other hand, the wind from the lakes can be a good thing. The entire west coast of the lower peninsula has mild springs, especially if the lakes thaw early, and grow a lot of fruit like apples and blueberries. They also grow a lot of vegetables like asparagus and wine grapes. Traverse City in the "tip of the little finger" area is a large wine and sour cherry growing area because it is situated at the base of peninsulas that stick into Lake Michigan. Note the two purple areas shown on this map. Traverse City is in a circle and Gaylord is in a red square. All it takes is a few miles for the Great Lakes to affect weather.



Anyway, I visited the cultural center/museum connected with the Pueble of Acoma today, but the tors to the actual pueblo were closed because they do not want outsiders bringing in COVID. Most of the Indian communities in the Southwest are being very careful.

Weather is a bit better today and supposed to be even better tomorrow, but I am going to stay an extra day here and do some reading and relaxing.
