Talk About Confusing Time Changes

Came across this bit of time change history in Michigan. If we think changing back and forth between DST and Standard is a pain, how about this for confusion

Another Interesting thing is, the far western end of the UP is on Central Time, while the rest of the state is Eastern. The line zig zags a bit over there. Lake Gogebic, the largest lake in the UP and I think 2nd largest in the state is cut in half by the line. Folks living from about the middle to the south end are Eastern and from the middle to the north are central. Probably fun if you and your neighbor are on both sides of the line.

Another Interesting thing about time or even boundary lines, occurred over on Heart Lake where I used to live. The SE corner of this county is split between two school districts. One is based in Crawford county to our the south and the rest is Gaylord schools. Well, somehow when the boundaries were drawn back whenever, it put some of Heart Lake in both districts. When the lake was subdivided and people started building around it, our neighbors found out that the it split their lot and their house was sitting with half in one district and half half in the other. They were sending their kids to Gaylord schools and when the line issue was discovered, they were told that the kids were going to have to sleep on the Gaylord school side of the house in order to attend Gaylord schools. The issue finally wound up in court, and the judge ruled in the neighbors favor because he said that a house cannot be split between two school districts, so the districts were going to have to decide how they were going to move the line. In the end, the line was moved in favor of Gaylord schools.

I remember when I had a contract in Mesquite Nevada. I found an RV park at Beaver Dam, Arizona about 10 miles away from the Hospital. Most of my appointments were in St George (about 35miles) north. So I had to deal wit, Arizona time, Nevada time and St George Utah mountain time. I finally set two clocks. One for any shopping or appointments in Utah and one for Nevada my work time. I dont know why but I was never late to work or any appointments. It was a fun place to work.

Travelers coming to Utah always got confused. They had time changes from Vegas, California, Colorado and Arizona. They always were misjudging their arrival times everywhere lol

Here in Texas when you get far enough west, think El Paso, you're in mountain time not central like the rest of the state.

And for those who don't want dst because of the different times of daylight, look at other places in your own time zone. It varies close to an hour from one east to west so it's not all about which is being honored but where you live. I learned I'd never live in Alabama after I saw that it's dark so early no matter which is in effect. Well, the weather there bothered me as much if not more than the lack of light lol

it can be confusing while in Q being only 20 miles Blythe CA which is in Pacific time. you had to be careful about closing times ect... sometimes if we were going to a church meeting in Blythe and the meeting originated in AZ it was hard to figure the whole thing out... you do get used to it but....
