Monday March 6

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Monday March 6

Postby Shirlv » Mon Mar 06, 2023 10:44 am

Morning All, sunny and 46°. Just opening the kitchen. Doing a load of laundry. I’m still on my cheating intermittent fasting. The cheating part is coffee with cream and sugar. I don’t eat after 8pm and first meal of the day is noon. I haven’t lost weight but feel pretty good. Nothing special planned for today except putz on the balcony. Need to take out a loan tp pay for a corned beef. Lolroast. Daughter #2 took my order for Sam’s club. Corned beef is always expensive but more so this year even at Sam’s. Have my St. Patrick day menu planned. Be safe

Shirl, that's funny about the loan for the corned beef. That's true for just about any beef. The local store sells whole brisket and some of them are up to $75. They sell one that is trimmed and stuffed. I have never ask how much one of those costs. You have to order them. I wait until after St Patrick's day and buy a corned beef on sale. lol One of the towns 20 miles to the East of here puts green dye in the town fountain. They tried to dye the bayou but it takes too much dye. I didn't realize that there are Irish in Louisiana. The other night I was watching a show about Louisiana on PBS. There were a lot of Irish that came into New Orleans to escape the potato famine in Ireland.

I need to clean up the mess I made working in the rose bed yesterday and put out 2 bags of mulch.

I have some chopped ham left from the quiche I made and decided to try to make ham salad. I put a half cup of ham, some mayo, a boiled egg and sweet pickle relish in the food processor. It's pretty good.

Afternoon Shirl and all. Shirl, love your loan remark. So true  Ah, the good old diet. The trick to dieting and or maintaining one’s weight, is to eat small meals spaced out over the day, so your blood sugar doesn’t drop too far. Staying away from or just periodically indulging on something sweet, watching carbs etc., goes a long way. Most experts say don’t eat after 6 p.m. to give your metabolism time to settle down before you go to bed. Eating something in the morning is important too. Have to remember that you haven’t seen since your last meal or snack. Depending on when you last ate it could be as much as 12 hours. If youdon’t eat for a few hours after you get up, you cold have a blood sugar drop, not good. I will admit that I am not being as careful as I should be right now either. But I do make sure I eat at least three times a day. I always have breakfast even if it’s nothing more than a protein and fruit or in tbe case of this morning, a sausage pattie with cottage over a slow ce of pineapple. I eat eggs at least three times a week. Salads are an important part of my daily menu too. I have a small one every day. Get my leafy greens that way :) Martha, the ham salad sounds good.

Had about 2 inches of wet snow early this morning. Supposed to get some more late this afternoon again. Snowman packing snow. I went to put they

trash out for pickup and decided to just run the blower over the drive while I was out there. Shoveled off the walks and decks too. Been a busy morning here. Washed a dog blanket and quilt, then decided to try and paint lower part of wall next to washer and dryer, but abandoned the idea after I experimented. To narrow to really get between walls and the appliances. Really need to move them out. Will wait until they need to be moved for some reason. Then decided to wash the walls in the gust bedroom I was holding off on and thinking of painting. So that room is done. Not in painting mood and walls are dust free if I decide to later. So all that’s left to spring clean is the kitchen and side entry area off that.

Decided last week to have a couple cases of the flooring that I have in my other bathroom ordered and have my small bathroom done. Not going to cost and arm and a leg do to it’s small floor area. It’s all spring cleaned and I’m going to put a fresh coat of paint in the heat baseboards before the flooring is laid.

So, since I’m done with house projects, am going to put the finishing touches on two more yard birds, then give another one a light sanding and new coat of paint.

Sue, wasn’t recommending intermittent fasting, shouldn’t have mentioned it at all. Was just rambling about me. Lol

Shirlv.....thankful that ship has sail last year. I believe the outcome of the discussion/s was that we each get to do our own research and reading, and get to eat, or fast, in some cases, whatever and however works best for our own health and body. We need to do what is right for our metabolism, health and needs. There are benefits to being an Elder. So enjoy and don't apologise your choices, besides you do know that we love your observant ramblings best!

Ramble away. My eating habits would have everyone telling me how wrong I am, specifically because I've never been a fan of breakfast. I rarely am hungry then and that hasn't changed. Now I eat whenever I'm hungry. So some days I have way more "meals" than others. But I also only eat small quantities at a time. Sometimes I have to ask myself if I'm really hungry because I realize I'm only eating because I can. That I try to curb.

I got both FedEx and Amazon deliveries today. FedEx was bringing a new dog bed for Ty. I removed the old, vacuumed and put this one down and he immediately was treating it as a toy. Funny to watch but I stopped him because he would have had it torn apart. He's never done this with other beds. At least not when new. Let me tell you if this one was big enough, I'd sleep on it!

Here you go, Beth!

My diet is awful! I pretty much only have one real meal per day. The rest is just snacking. I just had 2 taco supremes from Taco Bell for lunch.

Went for my PT earlier. I wasn't able (or willing) to do a couple exercises because of my knee but I still ended up with some pain after I left. Hopefully, I will find out soon what is wrong with it. Then I stopped to see my tax man and got that done. Now I am home relaxing.

I found an outlet yesterday that looked burned and melted. Not sure when that happened but it didn't look good. I bought a new electric receptacle at Home Depot and my friend Dave is coming over later to replace the bad one. The only thing I had plugged in there was my electric fireplace/heater.

It stayed really windy all night but has finally calmed down this afternoon. Just partly cloudy today and a little cool, altho I was the only one out and about without a jacket on.

I am missing a library book. I have looked all over the house for it and had taken any books I had at work, with me when I went back for my equipment. I guess I will just have to pay the library for it. It might turn up eventually but I have run out of places to look.

Have a good day!

Good afternoon,

I've been thinking about recent food posts all day! The time of my breakfast depends on what time I get up and how many cups of coffee I decide I want! :) Martha, the ham salad is something I had not thought of in a long while so now will have to make some! I'm another fan of the instant potatoes (Idahoan) and rice (Ben's ready rice). I don't use them often, but both are good. Tonight I'll have garden rice with shrimp mixed in. Shirl, I was just thinking I hadn't made the Reuben casserole for a long time and was reminded at the mention of corned beef. Safeway is out of it in several forms and brands! Out of salad fixings but dragging my feet about going to the store. Barbie, now that your taxes are done, :) I use one of the government free websites and have for years.

After they figured out how to approve an old person with no job, I got approval for the apartment. Won't move until the end of May. Saw one of the younger couples come home the other day - her with wrapped leg and crutches. Seems she fell on ice in the parking lot and broke several bones!

We get a little snow now and then but so far it has melted quickly. I have been busy with genealogy so having to do laundry and vacuum today. Martha, I have never programed my Roomba and I seldom use it, but that's just me. It's been unplugged since the Christmas flood! For one thing, I have too many things (cords, etc.) that I have to move out of the way. Maybe it will be different in the new place.

Good afternoon. I was busy this morning then decided after I had lunch to work on my income tax.......well!!! the internet was out. Texted me we had an outage...well duh. Wasn't supposed to come on until 4:30 but it came on at 2:15 so that was good. But decided I would bake a cake to share with my neighbors and it is still cooking. So guess income tax will be on the agenda for tomorrow.

Shirl I do intermittent fasting most days. I eat at 8am Noon and around 4. So I am on the 16/8 plan. Works for me. I have 8 hours to eat ha ha I am not trying to lose anything just kick my metabolism into gear. I just want to maintain where I am now. I have gained back 25 of the 50 I lost and I feel real good at this weight. I eat breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack with my mocha and then dinner around 4 or 4:30 so far so good. We all do what works for us best. For me it sure doesnt mean I never have anything good to eat (aka sweets). I have more days behind me than ahead so a little indulge here and there is perfectly okay with me.

I'm not having anything special for St Patricks Day. I just decide the day before or that day what I feel like hah I finished the Chicken Tortellini soup for lunch and will definitely make that again. The last of the ribs for dinner and then I need to figure out my next couple days meals.

Henry did his job this morning. I love having him vacuum twice a week sure makes a difference. I used my big vacuum behind him one day and didnt get hardly anything in it. I have had a robot vacuum for several years before the fire. But this new one is the bomb it has rubber rollers which help with Emmas long hair and I bought the accessorie for it empty itself...Yay Me

Need to go check on my cake ha ha speaking of sweets.

Shirl, don’t you dare stop your musings on here. Many days you set the topic for those of us who don’t have much to say. Today it was diets and fasts. The other dsy it was food recipes, sourdough bread, goodies etc. So we need to talk about diets after eating all the yummy food

Karen, you and I are pretty much on the same schedule. I eat when I get up, usually around 7, lunch can be 11:30-Noon and supper 4:30-5. Then I don’t need any more after that.

Sue, the good thing about my musing is if you choose to ignore them I never know. Lol. My kids can just delete me and no hurt feelings. Lol. Anita, hope your new apartment has better management. If you have never lived in an apartment you don’t know what’s important. This complex has excellent reviews for the maintenance. I didn’t think to check on that before I moved here. Karen, Wish you would program Henry to come visit me every now and then. Maybe your next tech project could be a drone landing on my balcony with Henry. I’ll shut up, I don’t feel like watching tv and I’m sick of reading about sourdough.

Anita, I've been thinking about you and the apartments since you mentioned possibly moving. I remember when you first moved in and how tickled I was for you as it seemed idyllic. And the location, too. As time had passed and there have been problems I kept hoping they'd be fixed. I feel sad that the fix means you having to move. I hope the new apartment is so much better and that the location works well for you, too. I have to admit it's given me a lot to think about regarding where I'll end up. My original plans for the Escapee lot I purchased was for it to end up my home base. Right now I'd rather continue coming to this park in Texas winters. So now I'm going to spend July in Benson to see if I might like it there summers. Everyone thinks I'm crazy even considering that but i think it could be possible. We shall see. And I'll keep only good thoughts for you and your new apartment.

As to food, I'd have sworn I took meatloaf out of the freezer. Ha, clearly marked beef tips with gravy. It was perfect with my mashed potatoes. Leftovers for tomorrow or Wednesday.

Beth, this apartment did seem idyllic! I thought I'd have to move into a one bedroom one day as rent was raised, but I had no idea how poorly this would turn out. The new place is 2 bed, 2 bath - Monica says I can put the treadmill in the 2nd bath.! Great storage but bedrooms are smaller - Monica will be getting the queen cabinet bed I should never have bought because it is just too big. There is a pool, plenty of parking - Monica says she'll come visit more often.

This is a new, much smaller complex. Shirl, right now the construction company does any necessary maintenance. The manager walks into an apartment and immediately sees mismatched paint, poor spackle repair, etc. She makes sure paths/sidewalks are cleared of snow for residents with walkers. That said, Monica and I both agree she is a bit flighty, and we know more about her personal life than we need to.

Thanks for the good thoughts!

Dave came by earlier and looked at my outlet that burned and says it is beyond what he can fix so I will have to find an electrician to fix it. I am lucky it wasn't worse and burned my house down! :o

I have been thinking too much lately while I hurry up and wait for my house to sell  ... I keep having to change my plans and I think I have gone thru plans A-J and am now on plan K :? ... Am thinking of maybe looking for a mobile home to buy in Tucson. They are very inexpensive there, and many have an extra add-on room where I could do my gourd art. I would get a 2 bed/2 bath home so I could get a roommate/renter who would cover the lot rent and utilities. That way, I could still travel with the RV in the spring, summer, and fall, and have a home base in the winters. I would be able to spend more time with my brother and SIL there too. Something to think about... I still have plans L-Z yet, if needed!

Putters golf in the morning. I will go and slowly and carefully putt around the course with my knee brace on. It is our last day for the league for this season so I don't want to miss it.

Anita, I hope your new apartment works out a lot better for you. And I think you said you will be closer to your daughter too.

Good night!
