Friday March 3

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Friday March 3

Postby Shirlv » Fri Mar 03, 2023 8:36 am

Morning All, sun shining now but big rain storm moving in later. Hope I can get the grocery order before it arrives. Had a yearly check up yesterday. Visit went well, I ask doctor about some treatments at my age and he ask me about container gardening. Lol I searched until I found a doctor who did not treat me like a brainless twit. We discuss vaccines and treatments and I make the final decision. I’ve taken pretty good care of Shirl for many years so will continue. Don’t care if I have been taking a shower wrong, loading the dishwasher wrong or have the wrong hair style for my age, who are these so called experts. I will try to revive the sourdough starter and bake a sourdough in a loaf pan. I don’t really need bread but want to try it. I’m watching the tulips grow. Be safe

Good morning. Chilly outside but not terrible 32° will warm up to 45° I have a couple of errands to run this morning. One of them involves Walmart.....yuck But seems it is the only place that carries a couple of things I want. Will come home and Henry should be vacuuming He does a very good job. I used my big vacuum after he had sone his thing and there was hardly anything in it. So now I know he gets most stuff. I sent him in the kitchen and breakfast room yesterday and he has to do some maneuvering in there with the table and chairs but he got it done. I dont have that area on a schedule.

Having leftovers for lunch and dinner today so no cooking!!!! I like to cook tho and try new simple recipes. I am going to make the chicken, 3 cheese tortellini soup next week some time. I havent made it before so that should be fun. I just like the easy tasty recipes. Some are less than stellar but edible. I just either tweak them or forget about it.

I need to do my income tax so tomorrow I will get that done and have it out of the way.

Good morning all,
I talked to my son (who is snowed in up in the mountains) earlier. They are ok but it's going to be a while before they get out. DIL's cousin & his family are there too. He has a 4-wheel drive that they didn't take up the driveway so he & my son tried to get to a grocery store yesterday. Shortly after starting out they got stuck - spent 3 hours digging it out & decided to return to the house rather than blocking a road. Sounds like it's a mess up there. At least they are safe. They can walk to the store if they need to - I told him to make sure it has supplies first. For now, they're ok - just didn't count on being up there this long. A neighbor told them to keep the gas meter outside cleared of snow since it has a vent that shouldn't be blocked. DS said once he cleared it the smell of gas was pretty strong so he'll keep an eye on that.

I do miss my little guy, but I am enjoying a little break. He'll be back soon enough.

I love quiche! I'd like to know how some of you make yours. My recipe is rather complex & I'd love to simplify it.

Well, I digress - I was cleaning the kitchen & then decided to get some music on, tried to find a pandora station to listen to, then switched to you tube & hey, since I was sitting down doing that, why not chat with you all a bit & here I am - not getting the kitchen clean.
So back to cleaning the kitchen.
Stay safe out there.

I just wasted over an hour of my life trying to do my taxes online with TurboTax. What a ripoff! :o Every time they updated my amount, the fees they added (unknowingly to me), kept piling up! Pretty soon most of my refund was used up! Heck no!
I finally just deleted the whole thing and will now go to my tax guy I have been using that past couple years. I don't know how they get by with secretly adding in those fees even after I chose not to have extra "services". Very crooked! My tax guy is pretty inexpensive so will give him a call. I have been using him the past couple years because my taxes were complicated with several things I didn't know how to do. This year it is very simple with just 2 W-2's so I figured I could do it online cheap and easy! I am not getting much back but don't want to lose what little refund I am getting. Now I have a headache and am in a grumpy mood! :(

Maybe lunch will make me feel better. :? Then I need to do a few things around here that I didn't get to earlier this week.

Tomorrow will be a busy but fun day. There is an arts and crafts sale here of stuff just made by residents here. Then there is a Wildflower Festival in Palm Desert that I would like to go to and see if I can find out where and when to see the wildflowers out here this year. There is also a street fair near there that happens every weekend. I have never been to it and have always wanted to go. It is at the local college and is all local artisans. The weather should be good for that if it is like today.

Sunday I am planning to go to church in person. I still don't know what happened with the minister that got booted out a few weeks ago, but I like the changes they are making with the services and church, now that he is gone. They are getting away from the science stuff and more back into the spiritual stuff, and also bringing back the bookstore that he did away with. Loved browsing in there! Well, our former minister who was there when I first moved out here, is coming back this Sunday to do a talk. He retired a couple years ago and moved to Florida. I really loved his talks and want to see him in person.

So lots going on this weekend! I better get some lunch and get busy!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

It's very bright with sunshine here right now, a bit hazy, but no clouds yet. Storms due around 10 tomorrow morning. It's a pleasant 61° outside, not that I plan to be out much.
Here's a conundrum for the Grandparents among you! My sweet granddaughter is turning 13 this month. We text/message when she has time. I asked, what would you like for your birthday? She asked for LED lights for hanging in her room. I , unknowingly, made the mistake of messaging my son to ask about lights, in terms of, they live in a modular type home, where walls are not like mine and thinking her idea of adhesive might not work. I was startled to hear back: "I can't believe she asked you- I told her if she would keep her room clean for 2 months I'd buy her lights and help her hang them". Now I'm left with what to do? If I send- its against his wishes (which I would not have known about if I hadnt asked about hanging them), if I don't, she will be disappointed. I did write him back and asked for other suggestions, but he's asleep between night shifts on a 60 hour run of shifts, so I may not here today or until he's off and awake. What would you do? Well besides not asking the parent, which still would have ended up with me in hot water! It should be noted. He never kept his room clean (belive me we tried),and I had a good rage when I emptied his pit of a room once he moved out at age 21,finding all sorts of stuff from regular old papers and broken toys to rabbit turds and half eaten tubs of frosting with my missing spoons. But, it's life and I dealt with it and moved on! I just really am not sure what to do now. Thoughts?
Have a good weekend, everyone! Stay safe !

Velda, I would tell your granddaughter the truth: that you happened to ask her father about hanging the lights and he told you about the deal he had made with her. Since he’s so looking forward to helping her hang the lights after she keeps her room clean, you don’t want to spoil the fun the two of them will have when they put them up together. Then ask her for another suggestion of what she would like as a gift from you.

Good luck.

Velda, a wise person told me years ago. “You can express your opinion to your child but your grandchild is her child”. I kept my mouth shut.lol. Maybe text your gd and ask if she has a second choice. You are in a no win situation so opt out.

All we got from the storms last night was wind. Didn't even get any rain. It has cooled off a little. The high today was 76 and is suppose to be 50 tonight. We will be back in the 80's in a couple of days.

Didn't do much today. I went and got my rose bush and a bag of food for Sugar. I could have sworn I recently picked up a bag of food but sure can't find it.

The quiche gave me heart burn last night. Too much cheese at night. I will have to eat it for lunch. Catherine, I didn't like the recipe for the quiche I made so won't use that one again. Karen makes it often. Maybe she has a good recipe.

If you all are going to keep talking about taxes I guess I will have to do mine. I was going to start March 1 but didn't.

The meetup group has a brunch in the morning. I had said I was going but will mean getting up early.

the weather yesterday said snow off and on today and tomorrow... it sorta happened yes it snowed if you could call it that..more like flurries... didn't really put down anything to speak of... but I trusted the report and went to the store so I'd be home before the snow started and I was home in time for the flurries... now if I was getting what you all in CA are getting we would be in a bad way as I'm not very well prepared in the terms of milk have stuff but not sure what I'd make with it probably lots of incomplete recipes...
I think tomorrow we are having fajitas bought red and yellow peppers the other day not all gone picked up a pkg of meat that is for stir fry but think it will work for fajitas... looks like it anyway... guess we will see what happens tomorrow... we are still in the need of snow... at least up in the mountains
I also worry about it warming up to quickly and the flooding that could happen... our lakes and rivers are low enough that it could handle extra but the basements not so I'd hate to see mom's basement flood it would be so incredibly hard to clean it out but by the same token we would be ahead of the game..
All I did today is the store and the post office... it's so hard to get around even in boots when the snow is banked up by the side of the road...
Velda I would consider what Sandi said .... figure out something else to get her... if you just asked her for other suggestions she will come up with something I'm sure
you all have a good night

Sandi, that's basically what I was planning to do, but you gave me better words! I thnk it comes under the category of: if Dad said No, ask Grandma and hope they don't share! Thanks everyone.

Catherine I've been worried about your son and his family. I heard on the news about homes up in that area burning because of the gas meter being covered. I hope they can get people out soon!

I'm with you Shirl, I also found a doctor that understands and accepts that it's my decision about what I want and don't want in regards to treatment. He is also non judgemental about my alternative treatments as he has seen they have worked for me. My last doctor one time screamed repeatedly at me over the phone one day that I was old and was going to die. This was because I called trying to get an answer as to whether or not I needed to have a test to be sure the bladder infection I had was gone or if I needed another prescription. The lab report was on her desk but no one could tell me the result until she signed off on it. I think she was just taking the opportunity to get out previous frustrations with me.
I have also realized that you need to read up on what the possible treatments and tests you need at various intervals. A friend of mine has been seeing a doctor for three years and they had never ordered lab work. I suggested she should ask and be clear about which ones she wanted them to do. She did and they found several issues she needed treatment for.

Lucky you, Shirl. I wish I could find a doc like yours.
