Calm Thursday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Calm Thursday

Postby BarbaraRose » Thu Feb 23, 2023 12:07 pm

So far thing are calm here. Partly sunny skies, no wind, etc. But that will change later on. The coastal areas are getting hit with the heavy rains today and heavy snows tonight and then head here. We won't get really heavy rain but probably just off and on rain for a couple days. Part of Minnesota are shut down due to a foot and a half of snow and blizzard conditions there. I am sure Pat is in the same situation where she is.

Nothing much planned here today. Just a few little projects and a couple haircuts at 3pm. I need to go find something for breakfast now and get dressed.

Beth, glad you got back on the road safely.

Have a good day!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Showers on and off all night. Wind yesterday was freezing cold…not so bad today. One tree got blown down at the end of my street yesterday. No damage at my building.
Valerie is in town. We were going to drive north to visit my son tomorrow. Because of weather we postponed the trip till Sunday.
Hazel and I are fine…got soaked on our morning walk, but are nice and dried out now, Lyn

Afternoon Barbie and all. Winter Storm Olive is now moving into the eastern UP as it works it’s way out of here. Interesting storm as it left some icing which changed to rain in the southern lower part of the State, Ice and freezing rain in the central lower and snow for the rest. We had a clipper system ahead of it and dropped couple inches on Monday night. Then we had another couple inches on Tuesday into yesterday morning. I cleared that out of my drive and the neighbors. Then from about 11 o’clock yesterday morning until this morning we got 6 inches. It is heavy snow, put easily to blow with the blowers. Bit heavy using the shovel, so hauled out my small blower for the decks. We might get a couple more inches today. I haven’t heard a whole lot of storm totals as yet, but seems to be 5-6 inches. NWS is still compiling reports coming in from people as to how much they got where. But the roads are not good and a slew of schools are closed. Some businesses, county bus systems, meals on wheels and whatever else are closed here and there. I am glad that I took the initiative on Tuesday to cancel an appointment that I had this morning and reschedule it. Temps are going to drop quite a bit behind a storm so things are gonna get a bit chilly out there. Oh Sharon, can’t say what you guys are going to get out there because as you can see, this thing is kind of a mixed bag depending on where you are. It was kind of driving the NWS here crazy because the models were not agreeing and they were having a hard time trying to figure out what this thing was going to do. Plus like I have said many times, the Great Lakes influence our Weather, so things change all the time. Forecasters have said that Michigan is one of the hardest states to predict weather because of that.

So now that I am done with snow, will do neighbors another day, I’m going to do some paint touch up in couple areas on my bathroom wall and work in yard birds for rest of day. Don’t feel like getting into anything else. I have my income tax stuff ready to go for tomorrow and I finished the shadowbox yesterday. Glad that’s done. Not professional by any means, but works for me.

Image

So I guess I’m going to go and get into this other little project I want to get done and then I’ll go paint birds.

I wish I could have stayed at the campground another day but I was worried about my cats. I seldom stay gone more than 3 or 4 days. My neighbor feeds the outside cats and I can leave the inside cats enough food and water. I have 5 litter boxes but they use one the most and it was getting bad. The wind was terrible and I had to drive between 45 and 50 mph. It took me 2 hours go go 78 miles. I took Hwy 90 so I could go slower. No way was I getting on the interstate. Thank goodness there wasn't much traffic.

Sue had ask if the event was worth the price. Beth and I thought there were some things we could have done on our own. This was the first event for the couple that hosted it and they probably needed more guidance from the club. Some things were fun with the group. It was nice to have a place for us to view the parade with a bathroom since we were there for about 4 hours. I think I would have to have a lot more information before I would sign up for another one of the hangouts. These things are a lot of work so I'm glad someone is willing to do it. I wouldn't.

It was up to 85 but is starting to cool off. I need to go to Lafayette but not going to make it today. I wish they would tell me something about my push mower. I brought it in before I went camping. I have called about it twice and they take my name and number and will have someone call me. That hasn't happened. Guess I will have to charge the weed eater and cut a place for Sugar to poop. She doesn't like the tall grass.

We have had tiny hail, sleet, grapel and rain today! None lasted but a few minutes, but now I know the differene! One of our local NBC weather people did a discussion/demo!
It's been in low to mid 40's all day. Chilly for us valley folks.
Not much else happening. Getting over a back flare and was able to do 30 min treadmill finally, after a week. Fence is done except having it sprayed with sealer in a few weeks. Had a high school young man help in pantry and sunroom and felt like I accomplished something yesterday.
Sun is out for a few minutes- shhhhh! Don't scare it away!
My biggest gripe today: Cosori notified me my 2 yr old Air Fryer has been recalled for a wire crimp issue and I must stop using it and cut off the cord and show them 3 photos. Then in 2-8 weeks, I'll get a brand new one shipped to me! I use it at least once a day, so this is going to be frustrating!
Have a good rest of your day/evening.

Good afternoon! After the day yesterday with some snow, icy rain we had a beautiful day today. Temp here was up to 68 with sun. I was outside most of the afternoon just enjoying it. Tomorrow the high may get to 33 with strong wind. So I’ll find things to do inside tomorrow! Sue, this storm seemed to almost go around us. We sure didn’t get any of the heavy snow and that’s okay with me. Went to the chiropractor this afternoon and we both decided today was the kind of day we’d rather be camping! I visited Lola today and made sure everything was still okay. Buddy wanted to come in but wasn’t sure about the steps. I finally got him to come in with some help from me. He wasn’t sure about coming up on the couch but onceI helped him with that he went up and down a couple of times. I think with a bit more consistency he’ll get it. Right now it’s kind of random when I’ve tried to get him used to it. Once we get a few days of consistent weather I will be able work on it with him. Right now it’s a messy mess where Lola sits and I’d rather not drag anymore muck then I have to inside! If we’re camping it might not be avoided but not now! Martha, glad you made it home safely. Barbie, all I can say is wow with what you’ve been dealing with. Beth, good you made it to your next destination. And I thought our winds were bad! Take care everyone and stay safe. Have a good evening.

Good afternoon. Not too much going on here today. Had to go get my follow up CT scan today so couldnt really start anything big. Came home had some lunch and now making a Hazelnut mocha.
Glad to see Martha and Beth made it to their destinations okay. It is cold here and now it is starting to snow again. Pretty warm out for snow tho 36 so it wont stick around. The wind is very biting when you are outside....so guess I will just stay in except for the dog needing to go out.

Threw in a load of laundry and having Henry vacuum the kitchen and breakfast area. I dont have him on a schedule for that so I just tell Alexa to tell him to vacuum LOL and he does, even better.

The weather is insane almost every where. Geez.

Plans change. One of the members of our group in Louisiana has Covid. Between getting that news and the wind yesterday, I did lots of thinking and changing. First I added a night to my stay there. Then I contacted my friend Sheryl and canceled coming to visit them tomorrow. Just being safe! That hurt the most. I tested negative to Covid last night but I'm not sure how long it can take. So I'm back now at the wonderful beach boondocking site and plan to stay 2 nights, then test again. If still negative I'll head straight to my site in Los Indios on Saturday. No need to have any people contact here. And I must admit I don't mind more beach time.

Sue, the price was actually somewhat reasonable. The weather caused some (a lot) of my grumpiness lol) What Martha said is all true. And the hosts asked me to write down everything I'd like to see different. So I will. I'll have time here lol. They need to be more flexible in some areas and be more careful selecting the items that are special. They did a great job with getting the location for our group for the last nights parade and getting good gumbo catered. However we would have been better off getting there an hour later but they had the gumbo arriving too early. That's not a major thing but sitting and waiting for so long could have been avoided. Because of the bag event the one night, Martha and I decided not to go to the event the next night. Seeing peoples pictures, we should have gone. Oh well. I'm not sorry I went but am very glad Martha was along! A few more of us crazy women and even with the glitches we would have had a ball.

Fog was around this morning when I left and it's rolling in here at magnolia beach right now.

Got up early and headed to service place today to get my new battery. Also had them check my check engine light that has been on. Well, they discovered that the engine cover was not tight and the gasket spewing oil all over the place. I need to have a new gasket plus 10 spark plugs and 10 coils. Plus they said my radiator hoses were really old and cracked and the radiator fluid needed flushing. Ditto for the oil something or other. And finally, I knew I would need front brakes soon, so they are replacing those. All of this will cost several thousand dollars, which I do not have, so will charge it then pay it off with having my stock broker sell enough of the bonds in my 401K to cover my required minimum distribution for 2023. Ugh. :(

I know I have 184,000 miles on this thing, and I have not done that kind of maintenance as I should have, but that does not make me happy regardless. I sure could have had a lot more fun spending that money on other things!!! At least I will not have all those things to worry about for the next couple of years, hopefully. Anyway, I am "camped" in the service place for the night. The mechanic is doing his best to get all the stuff done by tomorrow afternoon so I do not have to spend the weekend here. He even said he would come in Saturday morning to finish it if needed.

I had the driver for this place drop me off at the local mall today and got a haircut. Had one a month ago that was awful--cut short on the top and back and long on the sides and lower back part!!! This one was MUCH better, so I am going to take a photo of it tomorrow in the daylight. Then I picked up the very small 5-lb printer I had ordered. If it works as well as I hope it will, I will give my huge and heavy printer to my Ohio son or find a place to donate it to since it is a good one and works well--just too bulky and hard to store and then retrieve when I need it.

Got a call from doc's office. They already had the CT scan report back this was 5pm and the scan was at 3 Holy Moly I really am pleased with my choice for healthcare here. Anyway my scan was no changes so we will repeat it in 12 months just to make sure nothing changes. Have my eye doc appt in the morning. Then need to follow up with my pulmonologist then think I will be done for a while. Except for labs for the rheumatologist, then labs prior to my office visit in May with Kaitlyn. Geez I didnt see a doc for 60 years except for mammo;s and paps. Now I feel like that is all I do. But on the upside it is my only social outing ha ha I feel really good so there is that!!!!

I made it to the store spent money stopped at the post office and got the mail came home put stuff away and started the potatoes in the A/F and then worked on my Swedish Weave actually did two rows... I made pop corn so mom pieced enough on that that she didn't eat very much... and for the matter her breakfast wasn't eaten well either... she will dish out 3 spoonfuls of hot cereal and usually wastes at least the 3 spoonful today I think it was probably 2 spoonfuls ... I must have been not thinking this morning I put water in pan brought it to a boil added cereal and cooked for the minuet and it had so much water instant memory I had put the water and cereal amounts that cream of wheat would have required not zoom so had to add water and zoom to the mix to make enough for 4 servings... so have left over zoom for another day
we had cold today think it was 13 when I went to the store it is now 6 should get colder later as well... my dd posted on FB that they had a snow day where they are in WA of course coming from Utah they scoffed at what they close the schools for... but when you are not used to it it can create a mess... and she lives in a really hilly part of the island.
one of my dad's cousin's boy posted on FB that the snow buried his big propane tank I am sure that it is one of the hundred gal ones... or more that was some major amount of snow I'm not sure where they live although assumed somewhere here in the state...
Glad you slowed your trip back to your campground a bit Beth and hope you don't get COVID take care and enjoy the beach
you all have a great day

I didn't get much done today. Just didn't feel good with my tummy churning and rumbling all day. I did do the haircuts at 3. I ordered some Manuka Honey from Amazon since I read that is supposed to be good for tummy issues. Should get that tomorrow.

My knee feels better after resting it a lot. Just need to be careful with it and use my new hinged brace when walking around and working.

Crazy weather out here! Nothing much where I am at, but Palm Springs along the foot of the mountains, got some snow this afternoon! That is really rare! I also realized that the mountains behind me at Joshua Tree also got snow overnight and will probably get quite a bit more over the next few days. This storm won't be over until Sunday! LA got snow along the foothills too. The mountains north of LA are under their very first ever blizzard warning. They actually had to explain on the news, what a blizzard is! Snow in the mountains will be measured in feet rather than inches. And along the coast, flooding from heavy rains. Some evacuations already in areas up near Santa Barbara where the fires were last year, in case of mudslides. So lots of weather stuff going on out here.

Meanwhile, I will just hunker down here tomorrow since we are expected to get a cold rain. Got just a few drops here today.

Sue, I really like your shadow box! Very cool!

Have a good night!

Sheila the reason we get in a big dither over snow out here is because it is rare and we dont have any snowplows. The counties that rarely get snow have a couple but they cant cover the whole county. They work hard to keep the passes clear due to so many spinouts and accidents that end up closing down the whole I-5 freeway. So in areas of increased travel they try to plow that area.
