Friday February 17

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Friday February 17

Afternoon All, a gloomy day so have year round little tree lights on for a little cheer. Have water all the house plants who are thriving with wicks. I bought a sourdough starter from Amazon, is there anything they do not sell. Lol. I researched how to make a starter and it was not for me . I do not have that much patience and with my short term loss it would not live. I successfully activate Breadtopia starter, it’s in the fridge with bubbles and named after my grandfather. I’m still thinking about making a loaf of bread and researching the easy way. I don’t eat a lot of bread but when I do I like a crusty loaf. Will cut a loaf in quarters and freeze. Will take loaves to family dinners. Of course all this depends on me successfully baking a loaf of bread. Lol. Be safe.

Good afternoon. Good to see you back Shirl, we missed ya. Finished cleaning the carpet yesterday so put Henry to work this morning. Looks great. It wasn't real dirty but the heavy traffic area needed spiffing. Today swiffered my bathrooms and kitchen areas. Had lunch and now in the recliner watching one of my recorded shows.

Beth and Martha having fun. Sorry the boat parade was cancelled tho. When I lived in Portland they had one several times a week during Christmas. We would take our boat down to where they came and anchor and watch from inside where it was warm ha ha

Nothing much else going on here right now. Next week will be kind of busy. Eye doc appt and my follow up CT scan Also need to get some labs drawn. Will get the labs when I go for my CT appt.
Pondering what I will make for dinner. Got some brocolli and cauliflower so need to find something to go with it. I did make a sugar free chocolate pie, just had a piece and it was very good.

It was a good morning. We went to the Museum tour at The Mardi Gras Museum of Imperial Calcalsieu. We divided into 2 groups to take turns decorating King Cakes and touring the museum. Martha and I decorated in the first group. Here's my king cake:

Martha's:

Another by a couple sitting by us (I think one of the best):

I could post a ton of pictures from the museum. But I'll refrain with just a few:

After the museum we drove around Lake Charles a bit then headed to a Mexican restaurant. I'm guessing at the various tables there were 30 plus of us. I have two more meals in my fridge from the leftovers.

It's windy and cold. No rain. I would have suffered the windy and cold for the parade, but wasn't meant to be. Martha and I have elected to not attend the merchant parade (the one our float will be in) and hopefully see the pictures others post on our FB page. Starting tomorrow the weather starts improving again. The good events tomorrow are indoors so at least won't be effected.

Good evening. Thoght I would check in before the day is over. Just got back from my church’s first Lenten fish fry. Although Lent doesn’t start until next week, they started a week early. They are extremely popular and extremely good. They will run through Good Friday. The proceeds support our schools athletic association. Our girls basketball team was helping at the dinner today and getting a lot of congratulations from people because they have been playing extremely well. They have won 17 games in a row so far. If they win their game this next Monday they will win the league championship. And then it will be out to the state tournaments. The boys are right behind them although they lost their last game unfortunately.

Been a busy day for me as we got 5 1/2 inches of snow last night, so I was out for a couple of hours with my snowblower, doing my drive and my neighbors and some shoveling on my deck and walks and stuff. Then I spent time working on the birds that I am doing, ran out a load of laundry and put two coats of paint on my shadowbox. So they kind of flew by. No walk today and it is pretty chilly out there. Although the temperature did make it to about 24 the windchill was like half of that. Pretty strong cold wind blowing out there. Neither of the dogs wanted to stay out too long.

Looks like Beth and Martha I having a great time. I too would have been disappointed too, if I couldn’t have seen the boat parade. In some ways you think they could have rescheduled it. Shirl, good luck with your bread project. I’m not a big eater of bread either. I do get some once in a while from the deli restaurant here. They make bread with Artesian flour and just a couple Ingredients. There is no sugar and other stuff like commercial bread. Once in a while when they’re making up some Loaves, they let me know and I’ll go up and get one. Or sometimes I send a request for one next time they make some. They don’t make bread for resale, but they make everything on their menu from scratch, so they make dough depending on what their special is on a given day and also include a roll in your order.

Did not do much today, other than make some phone calls that were overdue. At least I got my July cat scan scheduled to late June so I don't have to plan my July schedule around it. I am going to spend the last couple of weeks of June near my son's house then head to the state park near Sandusky on Lake Erie, which is near where my son and his family have their condo. It is on a canal near the lake and they have a boat and a bunch of water toys for the kids. I'll drive in every day and park in the big dirt lot nearby. I cannot park in their complex or stay with them, but driving back and forth is not too inconvenient. Hopefully my DIL and son will not come down with COVID that weekend as they did last 4th!!! Somehow the kids and I managed to avoid getting sick, but I bailed out as soon as we found out she was positive.

Then I made a couple of state park campground reservations, one along Lake Erie heading west, and one in Michigan south of Detroit. I'll visit friends and a cousin there and then head up to northern MI and visit another cousin, ending up in Traverse City to visit my niece. Might get brave and visit my best friend from elementary and high school. She lives in Petoskey and I mention getting brave because she is more than a bit weird, but we have a LOT of history, and even our parents were part of that history because her dad went to high school with my parents. Her mother was OK, but I did not like her father. Anyway, I have not seen her in years, so I should stop by.

it was pretty much a wasted day... I get more done sometimes when I sorta have a plan but I sure didn't today. I think I will just not worry about it...
Shirl I would never have thought of even looking on Amazon for sour dough start... glad you got some and admire you for planning on making a loaf of sour dough bread.. don't forget to keep back some of your start... for the next loaf
we had cold again today... I think it got into the 20th's but now it's down to 10 at least it's not negative... heard my nephew come in decided to catch up with him and have him go down and get the partial container of toilet paper but he didn't reappear so I left him a note on the pellet stove (it needed another bag and he always checks it) went back to the room to continue reading scriptures he came back and asked for the keys so he could move the car guess instead of getting the old (30 year old) snow blower fixed they got a new one... not sure who paid for it though... so it's in the garage now hopefully I will be able to get by it when I get into the car... we really need to either reorganize the garage or get rid of stuff in it or both... but mom is not willing to get rid of stuff... even if it's not in good condition or being used... but it would make things a bit easier if the other side of the two car garage was condensed more...
Beth and Martha continue having fun... did you taste the king cake??? they sure looked good..
how did your visit with the new realtor go Barbi
you all have a great day

Late good evening!

Was a long day at work but steady and I did pretty good with tips.
I got a text from Carmen the new agent this morning wanting to stop over to take photos today. I told her I was working and I hadn't expected her to come by today (she had told me the other day that she would "get in touch" with me in a few days... :? ), so I didn't put some things away before I left but would make sure tomorrow it was all looking nice for her. I never heard back from her after that. So tonight, I went over to my next door neighbor, Gloria's, and she asked me "did you light a fire under your agents butt?" I asked "what do you mean?" She said "there were at least 2 couples that came by and looked at your place today with the new agent". So apparently she showed it at least twice today (a good thing) but never gave me notice on that to make sure I didn't have dirty undies laying around. In fact, I still haven't heard from her since this mornings text. Wouldn't you think she would have at least let me know she showed it, even after the fact? My dad was a realtor for many years and he sure did things a lot different than these two!
Well, luckily I didn't have any dirty undies laying around, but I still had the old garden hose in the driveway to take to the dumpster, and my trash bags were in the porch, and a few dirty dishes in the sink, the flimsy homemade cat door was in the sliding door, and I hadn't made my bed. My knee hurt a lot last night after the dinner and this morning too, so I wasn't much up to making everything looking nice since I didn't know she was coming by today with a camera and prospective buyers!
I have gotten everything done tonight so if she comes by tomorrow she can take her photos (hopefully, she didn't take them today).

I got an appointment for Wednesday with my doctor to look at my knee. It isn't getting any better. I was limping all day today even with the knee brace on it. Luckily, tomorrow is a 5 hour day, Sunday is a 6 hour day, and Monday another 5 hour day, and then the rest of the week off. After 4 days in a row of working tho, it sure won't be feeling too good by Tuesday.

Sounds like Beth and Martha are having fun in spite of the weather. But where is the baby on Martha's cake?? :?
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)
