Icy Tuesday Morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Icy Tuesday Morning

Postby Colliemom » Tue Feb 07, 2023 9:24 am

[*]Good morning from the icy 45th. It’s 34° outside and we have a glaze of ice out there. The forecast called for a glaze to 1/10 of an inch of ice last night and instead we had about 30 minutes of freezing rain early this morning and it’s coated everything in ice. The county is out treating the roads, Schools are closed all over the whole northern half of the lower peninsula. I don’t have to go anywhere, so I don’t care. It will probably start to break down as the day goes on and the temperature rises. I do have a Tech from my HVAC/Plumbing place coming to see why my water softener has stopped regenerating. But I’m hoping he’ll wait until the roads get better. He supposed to come this morning but I don’t have a time. They don’t usually schedule a time because they don’t know for sure how long it’s going to take them on any given job unless you are the first one on the list. I’ve been doing business with them for a long time, so I know all the guys and everybody. They know that I am always flexible. But when they are coming in the morning, I always make sure that I am up and dressed by 7:30. They start work at 8 o’clock, but it is not unusual for them to call me before then, to say they will be out shortly. Sometimes they are in my driveway by 8 o’clock.

I went to town yesterday and did my grocery shopping and errands and all that stuff, so since I am not going out today. I’m going to touch up little nail holes that I ut some spackling on, on my in living room walls. That won’t take long. Maybe I might even get into doing my bedroom today. I am also trying to figure out where to put up the two shelves that I had made from that log slab I have. Either in my bedroom or in the living room. I think I posted a post about that log slab a while ago. But for those who did not see the pictures, here is the
finished product. This slab is over a century old so it is a piece of history as well. This area goes back to the old logging days of the White Pine. I believe that it was cut at one of the mills that used to be along the Shoreline of Otsego Lake. The village of Otsego Lake was established in 1872 and was about a mile to my north. It is heyday it was a pretty thriving community and had a mill along the Lake. As the railroad progressed north another small community went up on the north east side of Otsego Lake and that to had lumber mills. So it is from one of these mil that I suspect this log came from. In floated out and eventually got so waterlogged that it sank to the bottom of the lake and eventually got covered with sediment. About 10 years ago, we had some low water levels, and the boat traffic stirred up the bottom and logs popped up. There is a lot of logging history in this area and the lakes around here have logs and stumps and stuff in them from that era. You can see in the second picture, the rounded edge, indicating this was a first cut from the log.

Rita, nice to see that you were finally on your way south for a while. Sounds like you guys had really been having a winter up there. You’ve probably got all the snow that we were normally have or used to. Beth, your new volunteer position sounds interesting.

No other news here so I guess I will get busy. Just wanna wish you all a nice day.

I have had five mosquito bites for last three days. First one from week ago is healed, but last night I discovered that I may be contributing to the stinging and redness of these newer ones. After my shower In the evenings, I have been putting some cortisone cream on newer bites then going to bed. But realized that nighttime was when these were most sore, so last night when bites were stinging, I got up and wiped cream off with antibacterial wipe and they felt better. I’ve used this tube of cream in past with no problems but now am wondering if I have become allergic to it!! Could be cream base or cortisone. Hmmmm

Anyway, I used some ice packs after I washed the cream off and that also helped. I am in Gilbert Ray near Tucson and checkin guy said no mosquitoes here. Was low of 32 last night so that should get rid of any left over anyway. I know it is weird to have mosquitos in desert, but things are green, even with a little grass growing between cactus from rains few days and weeks ago. Supposed to be 62 today and make it to 74 by end of week with no rain forecast. Cactus should start blooming by end of February I was told so am looking forward to that.

Good morning gals!

Woke up ahead of my alarm so decided to get up. I have putters at 10 but we have a potluck afterward and need to bring our food to the clubhouse before we play. I picked up some frozen mini chocolate eclairs. I also got some chocolate frosting to put on them since the chocolate already on them doesn't look real nice so will cover that up with some good stuff! I have them thawing out now.

I got a text from my real estate agent that he is showing my place tomorrow at 2pm. Fingers crossed that they actually show up and like my place! Today I will make sure to get everything sparkling clean and neat around here.

Yesterday I went to WM, tried on some glasses at the vision center to see what looks good on me. Most of them I don't like or are too big for my face. I have a narrow face so sometimes the kids frames fit better. Picked up some food and headed home. Forgot to drop my books off at the library but I can do that today or tomorrow. I ended up taking a long nap in the afternoon so I didn't get much done on my list. Will get caught up on some of that today. Just lots of little, easy things to do. Also laundry...

Sue, hope the ice melts soon before any damage to trees happens.

Have a good day.

Judy, have you ever looked into getting a lightweight mesh bug jacket. A lot of people in the UP wear that kind of stuff to keep the Black fly and other insects from biting them in the spring. You might wanna investigate that. I just got done reading some post in the group called Pure UP that I belong to on FB and some people were just talking about that.

Barbie, good luck with your house tomorrow. Be sure that outside looks as good as inside, because if curb appeal doesn’t look good, that will turn buyers off before Thry even get in the door. People drive around looking at houses that are for sale all the time and if the outside is not looking too nice, they go elsewhere. Yours looks like you got it thought.

Off to lunch here. My text still hasn’t come yet but with the weather, that’s understandable.Might have got a late start to begin with. The temperature is now up to 36 and rising and it is slowly starting to thaw. The county just came through here not long after I made my first post to treat them out here so that tells me that the main roads are all set now. It’s the snow covered back roads that can turn into ice-skating rinks.

Barbie, fingers crossed. It only takes one!

I headed into Mexico this morning. Martha, let's not forget to get your purchase to you! And I got a years worth of Heartgard for Ty. I would have loved to have purchased a couple Mexican colorful tops but these were handmade ones that obviously cost more. Still inexpensive compared to similar up here, but I don't need them. Just love them. I'm going back the very end of the month to see my dentist and get my teeth cleaned. I'll either convince myself to splurge on one or two then or be good and save my money. I don't need new clothes!!!

Sue, I have thought of getting one of those jackets, but did want to look strange. However, these mosquito bites are really interfering with my life, especially my sleep. I am going to check them out on Amazon. I do have several of the head nets, and I often wear long pants at dusk or even earlier in the day, but I need to get some heavy duty rubber bands and put them around the legs so the nasties cannot crawl up there!!

Just got back from the putters pot luck. I played OK today but not gonna win any money with my score. We had lots of good food and my eclairs went over good. Just had 2 left to take back home. We played a word search game and I won. I am very good at doing those so I always win those contests.

Now I am just chilling and letting my food digest before starting on my to-do list.

Sue, I meant to mention earlier that I love those shelves! Really cool about the history of them too. I still have that "cookie" of the Sequoia tree I got last year up in Idyllwild. Will hang on to that for the future to make a table or something out of it.

I think my house has a lot of curb appeal. Most houses here are very plain jane white, etc. I added the teal trim and some teal accessories to brighten it up some. Maybe people don't like color anymore. :?

we made it up to 35 according to the car ... I was out to go to the store and to see if I could find a place to get my glasses straightened ... I succeeded they feel so much better :)
went to the store as always spent way too much it's hard not too...
came home and put the groceries away put the enchilada's in the oven they weren't quite hot enough so put in the microwave for a few seconds... I was really impressed with recipe for the sauce... but not sure if it was the brand of tortilla's or because they were flour (which is what I've always used for enchiladas) or what but the texture of the shell was totally not nice I even threw away 2 they were totally soft almost pillowy not good and I picked up the same shells today as I like to keep them on hand for taco's hopefully they won't be a problem with taco's...
did get a half row in of the Swedish Weave and my two rows on the crocheted afghan so my normal evening activity's
here's hoping Barbie that they show up and fall in love with the house... Judy hope that you can get the mosquito bites under control... how long will you be in Tuscan?
I heard the weather on the radio while I was out the high and I didn't catch the day is suppose to be 24 the high just not looking forward to that...
you all have a great day

Barbie, your house looks very nice. The teal trim makes it stand out.

My mower showed back up this afternoon but I didn't see it until it was almost dark. I didn't hear when it was dropped off. We are suppose to get a lot of rain tomorrow so hope I can get the yard mowed before it starts. It got up to 83 this afternoon. It's suppose to start cooling off after the rain and be 32 one night.

I brought my son to an appointment and we picked up lunch at an Italian restaurant. I got Shrimp Alfredo and it was so good. It had a lot of shrimp in it.
