Tuesday the 27th

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Tuesday the 27th

Well, still no propane here. I remember they screwed up the week between Christmas and New Year last year so am not surprised. I'll be fine now that I don't need my furnace. I just wish I'd know what day they'll wake me up lol

No plans this week. I have to figure out what side dish to prepare for New Years day and an appetizer if I go to New Year's Eve. I'll probably skip that, though. But it's always good to be prepared.

Happy Tuesday! I’ve been outside trying to get ahead of the icy mess on the sidewalks. The runoff from the church’s parking lot runs down my sidewalk but in this weather it freezes and then I can be fined for not clearing the sidewalk. It’s been an ongoing situation with no help from the church and the borough says they don’t have zoning regulations for water runoff from one property to another. I don’t mind running the snowblower across their sidewalk but chipping ice is a bit much. I’m sure they have someone that could do it. Okay, end of rant. Otherwise, I’m looking forward to the temps going up in the next few days and maybe even some sunshine. Even so they’re forecasting rain over the weekend with the temps hitting in the 50’s but I’ll take it! Still no Amazon package even though message said it’s due today but the day is still young so there’s hope! This weather sure played havoc with getting packages. All the carriers are probably run ragged trying to keep up. Hope you all have a good day and do something you enjoy.

Good morning. We are in the middle of a "rain event", which I love...BUT this time is comes with serious wind blowing and gusting. Should be over by tonight or at least much less, we shall see.
I got a delivery today early...........well it wasnt shipped with USPS as those come after the sun goes down..maybe and maybe not LOL I hate the US Mail....so unreliable. I know UPS and FedEx have issue also and that is why Amazon doesnt ship with either of them anymore. I do get stuff from them BUT it is always third party purchases.

Not much going on here today. I think it will just be a laid back day. Having a piece of BBQ chicken and the rest of the cooked carrots for dinner.

Good afternoon ladies!

Beth, I'm so happy for you that your car came back with nothing found wrong! And for the mechanics to check it over at no cost was a wonderful Christmas gift. Martha, how is your son? I'm so happy it's warming up some for you! And Velda, how is your son? Sheila, I'm glad you took your Mom to the doctor but was hoping they might prescribe something to get rid of this cold. Anita, I can only imagine the frustration to have the leak in your apartment, especially on Christmas Day. O'Sharon, when we lived in MD we had serious rain issues from neighbors on both sides. Fortunately, a commercial business caddy cornered across the road let us drain the rain buildup with a sump pump into their ditch. Shirl, at least you didn't get any of the snow in this storm, but your temperatures were brutal. Sue, I told CarolB yesterday that I admire the way the two of you handle your weather and snows. I am such a sissy when it comes to cold weather and FL has had their share during this storm. We even brought several large potted plants in from outside that stand as tall as I am. A couple more are wrapped in sheets. BJ, I know you've had your share of cold weather, too. Tina, keep sharing pictures of your new little one! Barbie, Anne & Karen, I think you might have been the only ones not bothered by the winter storm. Good for you! Barbie, have you had any nibbles on your home?

We woke up to 35 degrees this morning and we hit the 60 degree mark a little bit ago. We're still going to wake up in the high 30's tomorrow. I am so tired of this weather.

We went to see if there were any after Christmas sales today, perhaps looking for Christmas cards half off or leftover Christmas candy.
I didn't spend much as there weren't any! But I did see things for New Years Eve and Valentine's Day. But we did get the makings for a pizza that Steve will make on his Egg later today. Tomorrow we will be meeting my sister in Sanford, on the east coast, for lunch. She lost her hubby to cancer a couple years ago and is just at the point of feeling comfortable going out occasionally.

Irmi, thanks for asking about Chris. Leg still swollen and tender. Called Dr (they were closed yesterday) and they said he would call at non, but minutes later Dr called. He is sending a RX for Keflex antibiotic to local pharmacy so I'll pick up when ready. Dr will check in with us Friday and if not better see him.
We had a rainy night with some wind, but not the 45 mph gusts predicted or at least not that I heard. More rain all week but doubt we have had an inch yet. Need to get my rain gauge cleaned so it works. Temperature outside jumped from low 40's during day yesterday to 50° overnight. This storm is what we valley folks call a Pineapple express as its streaming straight at us from Hawaiian Islands. So, warmer and wet!
Going on treadmill to help me relax. Have a good day.

I survived Christmas 2022 and I'm glad it's over. It only got down to 34 last night and it's up to 62. I finished the prescription pills and now trying over the counter medicine. I feel ok but the cough is still hanging on.

My son's blood pressure is not going down but he is in a lot of pain from his back. Waiting for an appointment after his MRI. I am sure he is looking at back surgery.

I am out of eggs and don't really want to go all the way to town for eggs. The Dollar store might have eggs or the convenience store. I cook Sugar a scrambled egg every morning and she is not going to be happy without her egg. What we do for our pets.

Velda, hope your son gets better soon. I had never heard of cellulitis until I got a flurry of bad mosquito bites when visiting Yellowstone a few years back. Found out the hard way that cellulitis is a miserable business.

Sending healing thoughts your way.

Lots of issues with illness and weather among us. Velda, glad Chris is getting meds. I wish the treadmill helped me relax! Martha, I hope your son will follow through with whatever needs doing! Sorry your cough is hanging on. I now have to admit to myself that I do indeed have a cold. :x I was trying positive thinking. Sheila, happy they didn't find a problem with your mom, but I hope they didn't miss something.

They can't decide between icy rain or snow here. Lots of traffic issues due to pass closures and detours. We are going to try to have our Christmas tomorrow. Covid - a lot of it going around! Two of our RV acquaintances have family with it. Evie, when I had it and unintentionally took it to BFF's house, neither she or her grandson caught it. We kept our distance after I tested positive.

My floors are all dry and I can now get on with it. My neighbors are moving out with nowhere to go but a hotel at this point. Apartment company gave them 2 nights hotel and stretched it to 3. How generous. I don't understand how the company isn't paying for all this instead of neighbors' insurance. I am just so disgusted! This morning I was cleaning under the kitchen stove before putting the drawer back in. Would you believe there was a bottle cap stuck between the wall and the floor?!? It's not even sealed! I'm think of calling a new complex and asking who built it. Sure wouldn't move in if they used the same one as here.

Time for another round of hot liquid. Everyone stay well, warm and don't blow away!

Weather today has been cloudy and cooler but no complaints. Just sweater weather. The rain system has moved down the coast towards LA. We aren't expected to get much, if anything here tonight.

I did a haircut this morning so made a little money. I checked the oil in my car and it was down pretty low so I put some more in. Need about another half bottle to get it to where it should be. I decided to take the car to my regular mechanic to find out what is leaking. I brought it in and waited 3 1/2 hours before they got it looked and and checked over. The manager came to me and said he didn't find anything leaking other than the water from the AC (not sure why they is draining since I am not using the AC :? ). But no oil leaks. He said I my radiator is a little low but didn't see any leaks from there either. The only think he told me is my struts are not good in the front so that is what is making the creaking noise when I turn. So I will bring it back after I get paid and get an oil change since I know I am past due for that. I will wait on the struts since hopefully, I will be selling the car soon. Luckily, he didn't charge me anything for checking it all out. So I got thru that unscathed financially! :D In the meantime, I will pick up some more oil and some antifreeze at WM tomorrow when I go back to work.

It did take a good chunk out of my day tho. So won't get as much done around here as I had planned. Luckily, I feel much better today and everything (with me) is working as it should!

Found out that the new gal at work got fired (finally!! ). So now they want me to work an extra day next week. I said I would work a shorter day but not four 9 hour days in a week! The stylist who has been on vacation for the past month in Mexico will be back by the middle of next week so they can schedule her for a day or two at the end of the week. It will be nice to have her back. She is very reliable and a good stylist.

We have a New Years Eve party and dance next weekend but I don't think I will go. I am not too big on all that anymore. I need to get to bed early so I can get up early on New Years Day and watch the Rose Parade! I watch that religiously every year! :D

Am thinking that I might drive out to Quartzsite for a day or two in January for the RV show and flea market just to get some ideas on things I might need when I do get my RV (solar, etc), which probably won't be until at least February now. I am hoping I will start getting some interest in my house after the first of the year. Things are pretty quiet around here right now during the holidays, as far as buyers looking for park models.

Need to get some dinner made. Have a good night!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Got back to Napa today from Oakdale and Modesto where we went visiting DILs parents and relatives. Anyway, where I was near Oakdale got 1.5 inches of rain, but Napa got 2.35 inches! I just finished cooking a small steak and slicing it up for two sandwiches--one today and one for another day.

Got a lot of calls to make tomorrow and am hoping I get an estimate for my motorhome front end work. Son is driving me nuts pushing me to get it done immediately, but the garage needs time to get prices on all the parts, so I did not expect a call this soon. Also need to check with bank on some stuff and make a decision on stopping my aunt's extra caregivers as she is doing very well after her pneumonia.

as I read I think of responses then I get to the bottom of the page and can't remember a response...
;)
that is not good that some are experiencing COVID again... hope you all don't get it and those that do that it's a mild case... Chris posted on FB that her and Al as well as the family that just had the baby all have it including the new born... so hoping that they all heal quickly
Anita I agree that I don't understand why the renters next to the empty apartment aren't being covered by the insurance... and only 3 nights in the hotel where do they expect them to go??? it is diffidently a question I would ask if I was moving or even contemplating doing so .... but glad that you are dried out
I too hope that they didn't miss something and really wish that they had given an rx for the cough... even recommended that I not give her the muxenix that I was giving her... she sleeps in her recliner that due to the controller not working won't recline and her back is bothering her now... feel bad for her hope that remote comes quickly
we didn't get any of the snow that was predicted  in fact we have had it warm enough that the ice cycles have all melted and when I looked past the tree onto the deck the snow that had been on the railing around the deck (think wider than railing for plants to be planted in) had all melted the snow on the pot was all melted and we could see the whirly gig usually have to be standing to see it due to the snow... I probably should have sent my nephew down stairs to check for any water I don't know if it happens but it probably would be a good idea to be on the look out..
Barbi if you plan on going to Q you ought to make reservations soon... if I was going to be there you could have stayed with me... hmmm you might connect with Kerry she might be there for a little bit. glad that they got rid of the hairdresser that was so unreliable....
Velda here"s hoping that the med works on you son...
Martha in Q the Dollar General was where you went for eggs... only a dollar a doz bet that isn't the price now.. saw it at the store the other day 4 dollars a doz... but as they say it's still a cheap protein
Irmi how was the pizza....
oh Sharon I read something today that you ought to think about next fall.... the article said that it's good to leave the leafs just go over them with a mower can't remember what all the reasons were that it was good but it did make sense ... have you visited with the church leaders and asked if there is anyway they can help you address the ice issue??? perhaps they are unaware of the problem or not who knows but when you visit with them it makes you know that they know about it ...
I know that I've over looked people but I've exhausted the brain power...
oh finished the crocheting part of the afghan... I still need to trim the fringe then talk to granddaughter and say she needs to come visit grandma...
you all have a great day

Offering a hotel stay may be a ploy from the apartment company to stave off a large claim from the tenants who were living in the damaged unit/s and were forced to move because of the damage. Due to the negligence of the apartment managers in not keeping the apartment heated enough so the pipes wouldn't burst. Maybe the apartment company made some kind of offer (cash or otherwise - to the tenants - for example, the hotel stay), with the stipulation that no further claim could be made against the apartment company once the tenants accepted the offer.

If the tenants in the damaged apartment/s had some kind of renter's insurance in order to be covered for something like this, if they accepted the apartment company's offer first (instead of working with their renter's insurance carrier first - that is, if they even had renters insurance) they may be now be out of luck in filing any future claim if they already accepted the apartment company offer.

Act in haste, repent at leisure kind of thing.

Didn't you say there were vacant units in your building? One wonders why the apartment company didn't offer them one of the vacant units.

And. . . Not my business, of course, but since you also got water in your unit I would give very serious thought to moving. It is really difficult, if not impossible, to get all of the moisture out of walls that have been exposed to water without opening them. In flood situations, walls affected by water damage are generally opened (sheet rock is removed), the interior space (what was behind the sheet rock) is totally allowed to dry, then the sheet rock is replaced.

If your floors were wet (I think that you said the flooded units were above you, so water may have got to you by coming down through the walls), it is possible that there is also lingering moisture in your sub-floor if the floor was not opened.

When warm weather comes - or even just the ambient heat from inside your unit - mold can begin to grow inside any walls or floors that are not opened.

Of course, it is a lot easier to just get some heavy-duty fans and let them blow a bit and call it "done", than it is to do semi-major re-construction.

Most people in apartments buildings have renters insurance, which covers their personal property, it could also cover additional living expenses and liability. The liability would be if someone tripped over a rug the tenant had and was hurt, along those lines.
Also, you are right about water in the walls under flooring etc. Mold would grow, if water is not extracted and blowers set up. Usually they would cut the drywall up a foot or two and then add the blowers to dry everything in the walls, then replace the drywall when the moisture readings indicate area is dry. Floors are dried also using blowers.
Also, even if tenants accept another apartment or living area from the apartment complex, that does not let the apartment owners off the hook for the work that needs to be done. The tenants need to turn in all claims to the apartments insurance company. If the apartment manager will not tell them who the insurance company is, call the States Department of Insurance, they have that info and the tenant can then call the insurance company direct.

I hope this is somewhat helpful, as I came into this discussion at the tail end. However, I was an insurance adjuster for 40+ years, and did run into these same type of claims.

Happy New Year to everyone. Hope you all stay safe, warm and healthy.

Thanks for the post, Rosemary.

You clarified a few things I didn't know. I also worked for an insurance company at one time, but only for a couple of years.
