I cleared my driveway again at 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon before it started getting dark and at that point we had 10 inches of snow here. I looked at my deck this morning when I got up and yikes. Must be at least 8 inches of snow out there. We’ll find out when I get ready to go out there again once it’s daylight. One thing is because I am in the woods, it reduces the amount of drifting here. This is a picture of my deck and you can see where the dogs were out walking in the snow and they did not they are very long, . This was cleared right down to the deck before dark last night.

The storm itself is moving past us and this is the lake effect that is setting in behind it. We will still be under a blizzard warnings until 7 o’clock tonight and after that things are supposed to start settling down. So, I’m passing Elliot off to O’Sharon and Shirl and saying good riddance. I don’t think that either one of you will see this type of snowfall. If it wasn’t for the lake affect we would have only gotten a fraction of this. Areas around here that are not under a blizzard warning are reporting anywhere from 2 to 7 inches. The southwest corner of Michigan is also being hit very hard. They had a multi car pile up on I 94 and they’re telling people to stay off the roads down there too. This will definitely be a Christmas to remember.

Morning Sue and All, it’s 10° sunny and not as windy. This flat land is saturated and falling trees are a big problem. #2 daughter was without electric for ten hours yesterday. She has a wood stove so she managed. A very stressful time for the country. Be safe

Good Morning,
Sue, I can't imagine that much snow and that it is so bad they took the snow plows off the road! I would be totally freaked out! It was 7 here this morning with feel like -3 but the sun is out and it is supposed to get up to twenty. Both Toby and Emma refused to get off the porch when I let them out this morning. I don't know what was with Toby but Emma is afraid of the dark and wouldn't go without him. They finally went but not until it was light out. I'm ready for Christmas to be over. I do have what few gifts we buy ready and wrapped and have things ready to fix in the morning for Christmas dinner at friends.
Shirl I'm glad your daughter had back up heat!
Everyone who is still dealing with the storm stay safe.

Good morning ladies!

Yes, Sue, that's a lot of snow. Hopefully the white out conditions will stop so the snowplows can get back on the road, with hopes the men can be home tomorrow to spend Christmas with their families. Shirl, I saw on FB that the Christmas Eve service at the Methodist churches in Wye Mills and Queen Anne are cancelled due to the extremely cold weather. BJ, we had two dogs that wouldn't get off the porch if it was raining.

It was 34 degrees in central FL when I got up and the temperature dropped to 26 as the sun was coming up. It is 36 now with a wind chill index of 29. By the middle and end of next week, the temperatures will be back where they belong. The Christmas Eve service is this evening.

Been thinking of everyone in the path of this storm. Hope you all are safe and warm. I canceled out of going to the BIG Christmas dinner today. I felt guilty, but decided I must think of myself in these situations. This party was secheduled to have 34 attendees. Many strangers to me. Not family. I have been tired lately and do not want to take a chance on catching anything.
A Very Happy Christmas Eve to all.

Wise decision to say home Lyn. I am still not over whatever I caught hanging around the hospital. I tested negative for covid and I have had the flu shot. I have a turkey and dressing TV dinner for tomorrow and hope I can stay home.

Sue, that snow does not look good. My brother's yard in Canada looks about like that. The pictures of snow are all I want to see.

It got down to 24 last night and is up to 36 now. I'm just glad it's not raining. Yesterday I got my watch band half way fixed. Jewlers don't have watch bands, they want to sell you a new watch. It's an old watch but it's a Seiko. When I get ambitious I'll find a metric ruler and try to order a band on line. Until then I have used fishing line to help hold it. Now I can use my Vivo Fit for steps instead of a watch.

Everyone stay warm.

Looks Ike another windy unbelievable cold day today in my area. Temp on my back porch is at least out of the negative at 4 but wind chill is at last look was -28. Buddy and I have been out a couple times and I kind of rush him so he’s not out there for very long. Or me! So far he seems to be liking the snow and the rain didn’t seem to bother him. Lyn, you asked what he is and all I know is he’s part Labradoodle and some other retriever. And the steps I have I had use for Rascal when it got so hard for him to get up on my bed. I figure that if I start him young using them he’ll get used to them for later in life. Plus I’d rather not have him jumping off the bed since his bones are still forming or whatever the correct terminology is. I also have a collapsible set to use to get in and out of the car. Sure glad I hadn’t gotten rid of all the things from Doodles and Rascal. One time my procrastinating worked to my benefit! Just got a call from my sister out west. I had a moment of panic since we usually don’t talk until evening! Apparently things are starting to get back to normal in her area. She just wanted to see how we’re doing with this crazy weather. She has a couple of horses so she’s had to be out in it a couple times a day. Buddy wants out again so time to bundle up and head back out! Have a great Christmas Eve and stay warm!

Ty is handling the cold, when we go out, better than me. I'm ok without the wind, but brrr. At least temps should get up to maybe 40 today and not before freezing tonight, except the wind chill. I've been keeping it cooler inside as I'm worried about my propane. Inside Ty crawls under a blanket, sometimes two lol. I put a 2nd comforter on the bed for overnight and we've been very comfy there. Hard to get up though. In a couple days I'll think I dreamt this cold. So I'm eating junk food and probably gaining weight I don't want to gain back without being able to blame it on the holidays lol

Lyn, I'm wishing I hadn't agreed to our Christmas potluck. Too many people. Too late now. Last year a couple of us sat outside at a picnic table. That won't work in this cold.

Took another 10 to 12 inches of snow out of the drive after I posted this morning about it has lessened a lot up there now and I think the worst of the storm now is over. There will be some lake affect around but right now it’s more windy than anything else.

BJ, it’s not the first time plows were pulled off the roads. It happens up here sometimes when we have heavy snow and sometimes there’s whiteout conditions that make it too risky. Everybody just takes it in stride. It’s part of living in the north.. I have not seen them come down through our road yet but I have heard that they are plowing some of the subdivision so maybe they’ll get to it before the days over. My neighbors who have four-wheel-drive have been out of here and back. At least one of them has anyway. The snow is drifted almost knee-deep in a few places on the road so it’s kind of tough going even with a four-wheel-drive. My truck is a four-wheel-drive but I don’t have any need to go out. Road commission workers know that there are going to be a lot of holidays that they’re not going to be able to spend with their families because of weather conditions.

Anne, 20 inches is a lot of snow for a 24 hour period, but wecan as much as 10 inches in a day from lake effect sometimes. 25 miles west of here, they are reporting 32 inches and 20 miles NE They say 26. Being that there was about 6 inches of snow on the ground before the storm there’s probably close to 3o inches of snow out here right now. But it’s supposed to warm up to about 40° next week so that will probably sink it down a lot. I can remember back in the 70s and even into the 80s where we could easily have 2 feet or more of snow on the ground by Christmas but now we don’t see that much. Our annual snowfall is about 140 inches a year. But that doesn’t mean it’s all on the ground at one time.

As to power outages I have not heard of any anywhere. I did see on the one electric company’s website that there was a couple of small ones about 50 miles from here, but it looks like it just affected like maybe 2-300 people. Probably a tree fell on a powerline or something.

Shirl, there maybe some church services cancelled here too due to the storm. I haven’t heard of any. But sometimes they might post them on their church Facebook page or something and I don’t see it. I know my church will not cancel. We are supposed to have three services tonight and two more tomorrow. Tomorrow mornings 8:00 Mass is to be televised live.

Well somne you all have had some serious snow, ice, rain, windy, and below freezing temps. I am considering myself lucky. Not much rain (but it is coming) some fog this morning. We got a dense fog warning BUT I have seen it so much worse, this wasnt much at all. No freezing fog. It was 46 when I got up and is now 52. High of 57. Tomorrow 64/51 with lots of sunshine. LOL rain late tomorrow and then rainy off and on all week. Temps in the low 50's so I will take it.

Making a quiche for dinner tonite then salmon, potatoes and carrots for tomorrow night while I hunker down and watch a movie or two. Not too much else of interest going on here.
I think I have my phone figured out pretty much. Now to tackle my video doorbell.

We are back in double digits! Didn't get all the snow predicted and now have rain/snow/ice mixture happening. Woke up with sore throat and stuffy head so may be a solo Christmas.

Everyone be safe!

If the weather people are telling me true, we should hit 50 tomorrow. Since I'm not convinced we won't go back to freezing tomorrow night, I'll hold off to Monday going back on water. And I'm hoping the propane company delivers Monday, but if I make it through this weekend without running out, any day works for that. And a couple more days down the week and back to 80. And nights in the 50's and 60's... Open windows sleeping. What a difference a couple days make.

I'm making a fruit salad for tomorrow so washed most of the fruits a bit ago so they won't retain all the water. So that won't take long to put together. I'll have way too much (unless people surprise me) but I love everything in it so that's ok with me.

Hope this storm is moving east and out of the way of you all. At least should be better tomorrow, and I certainly think it is good that almost everyone is staying home. And Sue, take it easy plowing snow. There will be other days this coming week, and we know most injuries occur during plowing or shoveling.

It is chilly here, but mostly foggy, certainly not snowy. I am in Oakdale, CA, which is west of I-4 and in the area where it starts to get hilly. The mountains (Sierras) start about 40 miles from here. We spent the day with my DILs father, her sister and her husband, and their two kids, plus my son's two kids--all teens. The kids do a pretty good job of entertaining themselves, and I made Christmas tree cookies, and provided green frosting and several kinds of frosting, so the kids all got busy decorating--some fancy and artistic, and some just basic frosting and sprinkles and let's eat fast!!

So, I am back in campground for the night. It is a county campground and a place that is supposed to be crazy in the summer, but is very empty now and pleasant. There are a couple of trailers with traveling nurses, plus another group, so at least I have a little company. Also, anyone need a cat or kitten?? Lots of strays around here. I am going to make a point to not look at them carefully so as not to get tempted!
