Quiet,Cold Wednesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Quiet,Cold Wednesday

Postby Colliemom » Wed Dec 21, 2022 7:24 am

Good Morning. Still dark out there as it’s only a bit past 6:30 a.m. reeze and cold though. Temp is 13° with a real feel of 7°.

Today is the calm before Thry storm. They are warning people, to get out of Dodge now, if you are traveling anyplace. We are supposed to have some snow tomorrow morning and then a lull until late tomorrow afternoon when the storm starts to move in. By Friday morning we should have around 6 inches and after that it’s all downhill. The NWS office here, made an announcement late yesterday afternoon that they were coming on Facebook, to do a briefing at 7 o’clock last night regarding the storm. When they do that you know things are going to get bad. They had some technical difficulties yesterday trying to do the presentation, but we did get some information. They sent out an apology and said that they will be out again tonight with more information. As it stands right now, we we are supposed to have about 6 inches of snow by Friday morning as I said, and then by afternoon Into Saturday afternoon, the forecast is calling for heavy snow in excess of 12+ inches with winds gusting 45-60 mph. Blizzard conditions are expected during that time period. Travel will become treacherous, if not impossible and people are advised to change their Plans. Once the storm stars to pull away, Lake effect is supposed to kick in behind it, and that is also supposed to be substantial. By later in the afternoon on Christmas day it should start to taper off. Needless to say, no matter which way you look at it I think we are going to be snowed in. If it pans out. Thry will not be able to keep the road crews on the road in that kind of weather, so nothings going to get plowed until things settle down. Because the snow is predicted to be heavy and wet, it could bring down trees and powerlines as well,so expect some power outages.

People are taking it in stride for the most part, changing plans, preparing. I was going to go to Traverse city today to return that computer but changed my mind and we’ll do it later as I have until 14 January. Decided that I am going to town this morning to do a little grocery shopping as I need some things anyway whether the storm is coming or not. And will pick up some additional goodies. Plus I want to top off the gas can for my snow blowers as they are going to be busy. In this kind of a storm, sometimes you have to get out there in the middle of it and blow out what’s there, so it doesn’t get overwhelming. Especially if it’s a wet snow. So I think Christmas is going to be very different this year for a lot of people. Everybody I have talked to you said they’re just going to stay home. Those who have family coming from elsewhere are figuring out the best way to deal with it. My neighbors across the road have out-of-town family coming up, some of them today. They have been working so hard to make this Christmas so special for their family, that I hope they can all get here. They have 28 Christmas stockings lined up along the fireplace for everybody   . Going to be a gang. They can’t put them all up over here so some of them rented a place a few miles from here. I was thinking last night that if we lose power, those of us in the neighborhood who have generators, may be having Christmas parties at our houses with our neighbors who don’t  So, O’Sharon, Shirl and those east of me, kee your ears and eyes on this one. I have heard that it might turn into a bomb cyclone.

Enough weather. I was surprised to hear that there was an earthquake in California yesterday. Glad nobody on the forum any issues from it. Those down south are in freezing temperatures too, , so this is turning out to be a very interesting Holiday weekend. Beth, hope you hear something about your car. Martha and Sheila, I hope you to start feeling better. Tina, Glad to hear Jane delivered her pup with no issues. I am sure that you are all wore out now. I am sure that you are probably wishing they were more too, , but things don’t always go as planned, as we know. BJ, you should replace your generator even if you have to take a small loan out or something. It would give you a peace of mind. Can your old one be repaired?

There were so many posts on MC yesterday, that I have forgotten what all was being said. So I am going to wish you all a nice day and head for the shower.

Good morning Sue, I have been up since 5am. I thought it would be cold outside but dang it is 47 with a high of 48 ha ha While the rest of you will be freezing our upcoming temps will be 56 on Friday with it going up to 62 on Christmas day LOL and Laura who lives about 140 miles north of me will be 24/21 the freeze starts north of me in Eugene and gets colder as you go north towards Portland. Yup I live in the "banana belt" ha ha I will be pretty happy when the holidays are over. Altho I do enjoy the Christmas specials, music and the lights and decorations. Since I sure cannot drive at night I dont get to see them anymore around the city but it is fine. I will fix something good for dinner this weekend in celebration of the holiday LOL My Christmas present to myself was my new phone. Still playing with it so lots to learn. I ordered a case for it that will be here tomorrow as it keeps slipping out of my hand as it is super slippery. And it is quite heavy but I do love the big screen. Then will have to see how the camera works. Another learning curve BUT will keep me off the streets ha ha

Good Morning All, I may not be saying that tomorrow morning as the storm will be moving in tonight the high temp for Friday is 8 with a low of -3. Sue our old generator had a factory defect but the company would not replace it. I was scheduled to buy a new one when Covid hit and after that just didn't do it. When I last checked the price was around $15,000. no telling what it is now. I have funds available but the contractor said while they install it our power would need to be out for over 8 hours as the utility company now requires a new larger gas line has to be installed. But yes the peace of mind would be worth it and come spring I think it will be on top of my list.
Tina sorry for the single delivery but very happy Jane is ok. Pippa says she can give her tips on training you. :)

Afternoon Sue and all, sunny and cold. Weather for island Christmas is still undetermined. Rain is predicted for the Eastern Shore. Our temperatures will drop to single digits Saturday so who knows. I will watch and decide when to travel to #1 daughters. I went to Food Lion this morning for curbside to stock up for after the holiday. Needed staple to make new soup recipes or whatever. I ordered 2 bags of 8 o clock coffee from Amazon, dried beans from Food Lion so I won’t starve. Lol I held the door for a tenant pushing the big luggage cart loaded with boxes of food. He said he had been to Costco, guess he won’t starve either. I found a movie during my YouTube wandering, Christmas on the Bayou. was cute. Congratulations Tina, Beth, hope good news, Sheila and Martha feel better soon, Pat hope you are shoveled out Sue glad you have a generator, BJ, hope your power stays on, Karen glad you have a new phone to play with. Sorry can’t remember anyone else. Be safe all

Sue, thank you for the detailed update on your weather situation. I am always fascinated by natural disaster events (not sure why), especially weather events like the one coming at you.

As for California earthquakes - I am always a bit surprised while they are happening - it is always a bit strange when things begin to rock, rattle and roll. But after they are done, not so much. Earthquakes are pretty much a fact of life for most parts of California, kind of like snow events are for you.

Sue, please keep the info coming - reading your posts makes me feel like "I'm there".

I'll bet you are really glad right about now that you had the new generator installed!

Thanks.

Oh my gosh. This is Shirl's #2 granddaughters kitty "with an attitude". Absolutely adorable.

On another note I just spoke with my service guy at Ford and they haven't been able to look at my car yet. He hopes today or tomorrow. I'm pretty much thinking next year.

What a beautiful cat! She must be very happy with him/her! I loved the pictures of Shirls cactus and poinsettia. My Christmas cactus must be a valentines cactus because she has not bloomed yet! Yes, Sue I too like the weather reports you are sending. I’ve hoping for a huge snow fall at my daughters home to discourage her living there. She seems to be in an area that does not get much snow. So far she is very happy living there.
Tina, are you going to keep Jane’s puppy.

Good afternoon!

Pretty kitty but don't all cats have attitude? Tina, so happy puppy arrived without complications. Lyn, Hazel is so cute, but every time I see the name, I think of Hazel the maid cartoons. Beth, afraid you are probably right about the car repair in the new year. :( Sue, you are much more experienced with this snow business, but I feel like we get enough warning to be prepared - even when the prediction is delayed a day or two. We have 'dry' snow so not so hard to deal with. I hope that family all gets together safely.

As soon as the snow stopped yesterday, I put on a long sleeve cotton shirt and my Carhartt vest and headed out. Finally have a system for clearing the car and path on either side. I did order better gloves and taller boots! We had a lot of pass closures along with some other roads so people out and about need to be prepared - often closures are due to accidents. It's beautiful out today with more snow predicted tomorrow evening. I will collect mail and walk over to the grocery store before that happens. Said to be just a couple of inches. I know most people wouldn't opt for living with snow, but I'm loving it now that I've become more accustomed to living with it. My apartment is so well insulated that I only use the electric fireplace in my tv cabinet and a small heater down the hall for the most part. I actually wear capris and t-shirts when home. I dislike the apartment heat - combination with a/c like a hotel room.

I interrupted present wrapping yesterday when I went out to shovel so need to finish that today.

Everyone be safe and warm.

That kitten is adorable, but I know all too well what "attitude" kittens can have!

I did two haircuts in the park today, two new clients here. So I made $45 for the day.

Been trying to collect more money owed to me as well. I still haven't received the $350 gas rebate from CA that I was supposed to get by now. I went on the website and tried the chat option but that was automated and kept ending the conversation before I got an answer. I called two phone numbers that I was supposed to be able to talk to an actual customer service agent but both numbers only gave me options to choose that had recordings, no option for an actual person! I gave up on that for now.

Then I got on Amazon to find out about the refund for the bike I never got. This is the 4th time I have contacted them about it. I talked to one lady who told me the refund went on an Amazon gift card but later when I checked, there was nothing on any gift card under my account. I called back and talked to another guy who told me it was now going to be processed and refunded in 5 business days to the credit card it was charged with. I was told that by someone 2 weeks ago, so we shall see...not holding my breath tho  . Everyone is so quick to take my money and so slow to give it back!

Now I am working on my photos from the hike and getting my new phone transferred from my old phone (I forgot about it while I was waiting for a new sim card which I got last week). Thanks Karen for the reminder! Am hoping that transfer goes well. I did decide to keep my same carrier but got a new upgraded 5G phone.

I should get some work done around here too today. I called work and they still don't have a schedule done for next week starting with Saturday! I am just assuming I will be working Saturday tho.

I got Romeow a Christmas stocking and some little toys and treats to put in it (along with a few little treats for mom! :D ). He really deserves a few lumps of coal in there but will give him a break this year for being a kitten yet.

Stay warm and cozy!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Tina, glad the puppy is here. Hope she continues to do well.

I felt so bad yesterday and today. I had an appointment to get the results of my blood work that was taken a month ago. My blood work was good and the doctor said I had fluid behind my ear drums and a sinus infection. He prescribed some pills and cough syrup. Not feeling good yet. Hope I'm better tomorrow.

This weather is ridiculous. We will have 4 nights of freezes and it might be in the 70's for New Years. I think there are going to be a lot of people spending Christmas at air ports.

I believe that I feel better still hacking and coughing but not as much... I think mom is a day behind me...
don't know what happened but she feel tonight didn't hurt herself but I opted to call friends and have them come help her up... the other time she fell my feet kept sliding and I couldn't get a good grip although I finally got her up I just didn't even try this time friends came and helped her up... she is complaining of hurting tonight it's been several days since she has had a "pain pill" (generic tylenol) tonight she came in to living room and I got the feeling took one when I went to the restroom saw that her bottle had been moved which is an indication that she took one... then she came in with one about 10 I told her she had just had one a couple hours ago so she couldn't take it... she misunderstood and started to take it I yelled can't take it now so she put it on the side table then a few minutes later she comes out with another one... oh my then she realized that she already had one out .... getting old isn't for sissy's ....
did more today than I've done in awhile.. I actually fixed the wreath so that I think I like it funny thing was I was trying to put the flower on when someone knocked at the door so went to answer and it was a gal in our ward who is a florist so asked if she could assist me she did and got the flower to stay on like it much better now I'm through playing with it ...
there is one thing Beth next year isn't very far off
I'm not even going to try and catch up with any one but you know when they name a winter storm it sounds scary
you all have a good night
it's midnight time to go to the room
so no game tonight I'd get sucked into the movie and I don't need to do that

Tonight we watched a 1985 movie:The Santa Clais Movie. I don't recall ever hearing about it, but the year it came out, my boys were 3 and 5! Chris said he has a story book about the movie my parents gave him and has always wanted to see the movie. XFinity is sponsoring it on Roku this year. We really enjoyed it. Don't let the few moments of scary at near the beginning send you away from a really good story.
