Winter Weather Advisory Sunday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Winter Weather Advisory Sunday

Postby Colliemom » Sun Dec 18, 2022 11:36 am

Morning from the snowy 45th. Lake effect snow is coming down out there. Probably have about 6 inches by tomorrow morning. It’s 30°, but supposed to gradually drop as the cold air starts filtering in. So this will be a stay inside day. I keep hoping that maybe it will let up a little bit so I can take a run down and get the Sunday paper, but doesn’t look like it. When the lake affect kicks up like this, you can have a whiteout in a matter of seconds and you don’t wanna be out in it. It may only last a minute or two but nevertheless. Stayed home and watched Mass on TV.

O’Sharon, sorry about your snowblower. That happened to me once. Were you able to fix it? In my case I wound up buying a new snowblower because the one was a few years old and it was better just to get a new one. I do have to say though, reading your description of the snow going up and coming back down on top of you did make me laugh. i’m sure it wasn’t funny at the time, but when you look back at it  Those of us who grew up in the north, probably remember how many times we’ve been bombarded by snowballs and heavens knows what else and having snow fall down our necks. I remember the years of coming in the house with wet gloves and everything else. Course now that I am a grown adult, I still get wet gloves and sometimes snow down my back lol: Hope your back gets to feeling better too. One little piece of advice from somebody who has some minor back issues, don’t hibernate too much. One has to keep moving around to keep those muscles moving.

Mission accomplished with the new patterns. I spent about three hours in the garage yesterday, tracing and cutting out those patterns. It was about 28° but I was dressed warm and I didn’t notice it until just about the time I was done. I could feel the cold starting to seep through just a little bit. They will be the last that I will be cutting out until later this winter probably. I don’t have any other patterns on order right now unless something strikes my fancy. I have a bunch of them already cut out and some that I want to give a facelifting to, so that will keep me busy. And also I have some things I want to do in my house as I mentioned before. The ones that I have been currently working on, I just vanished and a soon as they are dry I’m going to assemble them and then they will be done.

Martha, I hope your son does OK since hechecked himself out of the hospital. Glad you got your motorhome back. Is it all fixed now hopefully. Anne, I will send you some white Christmas pictures, soon as I have a chance to take some. It looks like we are going to have some pretty good snows later this week again too.

Lunch is on my mind so I guess I should get in there and get something fixed. Not sure what it’s going to be addressed yet but I’m kind of thinking possibly shrimp or some barbecue meatballs if it wasn’t for the snow I would run down and get the paper and also grab a couple slices of pizza.

So have a nice day everybody and those of you who are experiencing some cold that you normally don’t have, stay warm and safe

Good grief, it’s afternoon already! I’ve been up and outside with Buddy a few times already and been sitting here at the island addressing Christmas cards. My list seems to get smaller every year so it’s mostly just getting to it! And wonders of wonders I had just enough stamps so no trip to the post office to stand in line although I think the one grocery store sells them so may have to check that out first. Sue, I think we’re going to have another snow event come in Thursday and Friday of this week and sounds like it may dump a fair amount of snow on us. Plus strong winds forecasted too. Yes, I did finally figure out how to fix the snowblower yesterday, had to walk around it a bit to figure it out. It turned into about 10 minute job so glad I didn’t resort to calling the son. So the real test will come when I use it again! I’m trying to remember when I got this machine and it hasn’t been that many years. When I look back on what happened it was kind of funny. Although at the time I was just so shocked I didn’t even move out of the way! BJ, I actually considered something stronger than tea! But don’t have anything stronger so opted to have a cup of coffee! Sue, appreciate the tip on keeping moving and that’s one thing I have to do with this back situation, even not moving in bed at night causes it to ache. Once I move around awhile it loosens up. Another reason I’m looking forward to being able to get Buddy out. I just can’t get motivated to walk alone. And at least anyone passing by thinks I’m talking to my dog and not myself! Kids were good for that too I discovered when they were little! Barbie, sure hope you can get out of that shop soon. Seems the owner isn’t very professional either. I too hope everyone experiencing this crazy weather stay safe and warm.

WOW another week that just flew by. Not that I was super busy but I have been trying to do something each day. Today will be a load of laundry, have another quiche in the oven and took out some scallops to have tonight with my yams. Since I have been lucky enough to gain back 25lbs I now think I should slow my role and watch a little more what I am eating. It was a chilly morning again and no sight of the sun coming out yet. Going to start with a rain event again Tuesday and for the rest of the week. Our highs are in the low 40's but will warm up to the low 50's next week but still with rain showers every day predicted. That is good rather than a huge dumping of rain. Will help build up our snow pack.

Now I am going to do some phone research. I think I want to change to the Visible carrier which is part of Verizon but for $30 unlimited everything should work for me as I only talk, text and very little internet on my phone as it is way too small to read very long. I will need a new phone tho because mine isnt compatible as it is too old. So now need to find an unlocked phone. Beth helped me with the porting of my number because it is very different than I am used to, but I always went to the Verizon store and they did everything for me. But I think I can do this. Maybe there will be some Christmas specials. I want to buy it outright as I dont want a contract. We shall see if I am successful LOL

Dense fog warnings here in the southern California valley--drove through thick fog yesterday from just north of the Tehachapi Pass to my campground east of Madera/Fresno. Not too thick to drive in, however. It has been foggy all day here today, also, but at least I can see a little farther than yesterday. Unfortunately, the lack of sun means it barely made it to 45 today, and last night it dropped to 35. Supposed to be about 35 tonight but up to 52 tomorrow. Wow.. A heat wave! Certainly feels damp, as well.

I have enough water in my tanks, so will wait until tomorrow to fill up. There are only two other camper groups here--one is a 5th wheel and the other a tent, but I think they are together. Too chilly for me to sit outside and socialize! The reservoir is very low, but I expected that. I have stayed here many times before, and it is just a quiet and safe place with electric and water for a cheap COE senior price of $15 per night. Napa is very expensive, so won't go there until I need to on Wednesday. Enjoying TV and reading here!!

I was going to do a load of laundry at the Tehachapi glider airport campground yesterday, but they require you to download and app and give them a credit card number. That bothers me, since they will also have my phone number and email address, so I will wait until I get to Napa. So what is wrong with quarters? At least they can't send you junk mail or let someone hack your credit card for using those. I don't mind big stores having my credit card when I purchase something, but I don't know who these washing machine folks are.

Only three days until days start getting longer!!

I love the app we use here for our laundry. I appreciate not having to have quarters. And after I start a machine, I'm texted when the load is done. I never get garbage from them. But I think people who want to use quarters still can. I didn't even look this year. I only looked to make sure I could use the app.

On another note, I'm shocked. When I walked Ty today we walked with someone else with their dog. I was telling him about my car and that I don't want to take lots of advantage of people and their wonderful hospitality and he said I shouldn't worry but then also told me he and his wife discovered both Walmart and HEB in Harlingen will deliver groceries to our RV park in Los Indios now! I was worried about getting my fresh ingredients for what I plan to make for Christmas dinner. I just checked the HEB app and delivery to here is $5. I've already put what I need in my cart and will place an order for delivery on Thursday unless my car comes home. Maybe even if it does. I really wasn't looking to go out shopping next week. That was a good shock.

I went to my local WM this morning to get my flu shot and Covid booster. They are the only location that takes walk-ins for them. I ended up with just the flu shot since they were out of the Covid shots. I picked up a couple things there and then drove to the other WM where I work to see if I could get in without an on-line appointment. Well, the pharmacy was closed for an hour for lunch so I decided to just look for a few things I couldn't find at the other WM and then check back with the pharmacy about the shots after. I found most of what I was looking for, checked out and headed home. Well, I forgot all about going back to the pharmacy! So I will see if I can make an appointment on-line for tomorrow.

I had planned to go to my church's Christmas Eve service but found out this morning that it is on the 23rd this year instead of the 24th, at 5pm. Well, I work until 6pm that day, so that won't work. Will have to look around and see if I can find another like-minded church to go to.

Just relaxing tonight. Been trying to come up with an outfit for the XMas dinner since I don't want to buy an outfit just for that. I did figure out tonight what to wear. I have a pair of red velour sweat pants and have a nice top that will go with that. I have a matching red velour jacket I can wear with it too. It will be comfy and still look Christmasy. :D I picked up a couple ears of corn so will have that for dinner later. I will try using the oven this week and bake a corn hotdish recipe of my aunts.

Beth, I hope you don't have to pay a fortune for your car repairs! I know how painful that is! Glad you can get your groceries delivered there!

Stay warm and cozy! :D

Barbie, you sound like me and some of my shopping trips. I can plan on stopping somewhere and remember when I get home that I forgot. Yesterday I made it all the way to town and forgot my phone. Had to come back and get it.

Didn't do much today. One of the grocery stores had rib roasts on sale yesterday so I picked one up and a package of ribeyes. I cooked one in the air fryer. It's been a while since I have cooked a steak. I don't know what I will cook for Christmas. I'm really not thrilled that it's going to be freezing for 3 or 4 days.

I don't like the idea of having to use a credit card to wash clothes. I won't even use my card when I eat out. No one is leaving with my credit card.

not sure if it's the cold med I took but I didn't hear the alarm woke up at 11:30 :o so hurried up and gave mom her pill and turned on the zoom meeting for church first time I've done it here but sure glad I had it to fall on ...I wasn't feeling great about going to church not feeling well but didn't want to miss either...
fixed grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch and goulash for supper now I need to come up with something for tomorrow.. I'm actually tired of planning meals...
I did get my scriptures read.... it seems like when I get off schedule I don't get all done that I typically would or at least would try to...
think tomorrow will spend a very minuets on the wreath and then call it good..
we have a winter storm watch out from tomorrow night until forget when if we get what they predict it will be a good amount... have a icy lump on the deck so it's making the door not open all the way... someone from church stopped by with a goodie bag and asked if we need anything I mentioned that then tonight when my niece and nephew stopped by they mentioned that they need to work on it... I actually hope the first guy beats them too it just cause niece and nephew do a lot
wish I knew what we are doing for Christmas guess we will see
how is your son Martha?
I can't really imagine using a credit card for machines think I'd rather quarters
