Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Thursday, December 8

Goos afternoon all. Started out with some sun this morning but it didn’t last long. Back in the gray cool pattern but yesterday was in the 50’s here! With some rain/mist in the afternoon. Crazy weather. Karen, pup seems to be stuck with the name Buddy! It was suggested I name him Sir Buddy so that might happen too! Although he’ll still be just Buddy! Anne, thanks for putting a name to the eye situation. Soon as I read it the lightbulb went on and realized that’s what the vet said. I got the playpen the other day and configured it to sit in my kitchen. It’s taking up a fair amount of space but until he’s totally housebroken it’s the best floor for it. I actually had to leave him home alone yesterday while I went to the chiropractor and knew it would be quite awhile to be alone in the car and had visions of him chewing the car up! He was only alone for a little over an hour and he seemed to do okay. I heard him barking a bit when I left but he had a comfy blanket and lots of chew toys. So all and all besides the chewing he’s doing pretty good. Of course we’re still working on the chewing on me and my clothing! So besides being consumed with puppy I’ve actually managed to get some work done in the house. And was able to get outside and clean up the leaves off the back porch plus add a panel of plastic to one other open space to help block the wind and snow. I really need to get some Christmas cards out pretty soon. That’ll be about it for me. I considered baking some cookies but even if I freeze them I still know they’re in the house and I’ll eat way more then I should! I love butterscotch chip cookies and I can’t even give them to my family since they don’t like them so I have to eat them all ;) Beth, nice that you are going to enjoy some you time for awhile. Okay, time for outside for puppy so wish you all a great day.

It's in low 50's here and clouds moving back in for the next round. 2.5 inches may be laughable to some, but last storms 2.5 inches is such a blessing as it soaks into parched ground. I could enjoy a inch or two a week!
Gotta walk a bit on treadmill, then take son to return his recyclables and get his spending $. Then continue here the seeming never ending sort and bag to donate or toss. Hope to make some cards too for mailing.
Stormy still looks for her sister, as do I. Every time I walk into my room, I look for Mandy on her spot on my bed. I miss her.
Had a really nice potluck Christmas get together with the Empty Nesters group at church last night. Was so nice to sit and talk to people I haven't seen in a while, but have known since we moved here in 86. I made these charcuterie skewers using fancy little bamboo 6 in picks, using cherry tomatoes, artichoke hearts, genoa salami, basil leaves, mozzarella balls and 2 kinds of olives: pimento stuffed and kalamata. I made about 18 or 19 and only brought 3 home. Going to experiment with other combos of meat, cheese, tomato, etc. who knew there would be hundreds of examples of charcuterie skewers on Pinterest!
Need to get more Christmas shopping done and find a good day to get a tree and get it up. That means dragging boxes from detached garage up the hill to the living room!
Hope all have a good day, whatever you are doing, stay safe.

Afternoon Sharon, island weather is cloudy too. I also have favorite foods that I shouldn’t eat. I checked Karen’s site cooking for one and will try apple crisp, crustless pecan pie, Mac and cheese. It even has cookies. Lol Problem is I do not have 10 oz ramekins but luckily Amazon does. I ordered colorful ones and think they might help with portion control. Thanks Karen. Merry Christmas Shirl.

It is raining pretty steady here and 46 out so not too bad today. We are supposed to get pver 2 inches of rain so that is good. Need that snow pack that is for sure. Just a dreary rainy day. I dont have anywhere to go today unless I get motivated to go get some stuff to make stir fry, but that probably wont happen until tomorrow. Right now I have ribs in the crockpot so will have them for dinner. Stir fry tomorrow hopefully. Took some chicken out to put in the stir fry. I need to repot my Thanksgiving cacti but only have one new pot so guess I will go to the thrift shops and see what they have next time it isnt pouring outside. Maybe in my travels tomorrow.

Velda I am still sorting donations also deciding what to keep, donate or toss. Geez seems neverending. I am sure the loss of Mandy leaves a hole in your heart. I feel that way for quite a while when I lose a pet. Sharon having a puppy is fun but lots of work too. I set up an Xpen in my family room when I got Emma as I couldnt watch her all the time. It was on a tile floor but she didnt really have any accidents after she was about 4 months old. I took her out every couple of hours tho too if she was awake. I also bought her bully sticks to help with the chewing......worked well for me. Everyone said no rawhide so she liked the bully sticks (made from Bull penis LOL) I would also leave her alone periodically as she hated it and would do some hollering but after a while I guess she realized I would be back.
I am sure he will learn the house rules as they really are smart. I like his name Buddy, I know a few dogs with that name and it suits them too.

Shirl I bought my Ramekins off Amazon too a long time ago and I use them all the time. You will really like some of her recipes I hope. I love that site because if I make a batch of cookies.........well you know how that goes. So it definitely does help with portion control especially with sweets.

Good afternoon from the 45th. . Been awol here, but have been reading posts. My days have been busy with the woodcraft projects, errands to town, bit of house cleaning, walking the dogs which can be a two hour session most days. 2 + miles and a ton of sniffs. Seems like I just get up and it’s time for bed again.

Weather has been cloudy here too, , which is pretty much the norm this time of year. We’ve had a bit of snow, then it melts and another bit comes. Temps have been holding in the 30’s for the most part. Today only in the upper 20’s though.

O’Sharon, congrats on the pup. I like the name Buddy too. Will certainly be keeping you busy, that’s for sure. I laughed at Pat’s “glowing” yard after her dog ate the crayons  Never know what our fur kids will get into. Martha, hope your otorhome has a quick in and out at the shop. Cheryl, sounds like you are getting organized with your new trailer. Barbie, how much longer are you going to work before you call it quits?

I discovered the company, Winfield Collection, that I get my woodcraft patterns from, has a FB page. They post pictures of things that people make with their patterns and I’m getting a ton of ideas. Right now Tthey are doing Christmas ones and some people’s. Relativity and artistic talent is amazing. I was surprised at how many are women too. If you are on FB, take a look at their page sometime and you might really enjoy it.

I don’t think I am baking cookies this year either. Trying to keep sweets out of the house. Spritz (Butter) cookies are my favorites and butter is out of sight price wise. Although I did pick up 3 pounds on sale this week for the freezer. But I am sleeping better, have more energy and I’m way more alert when I stay away from the sugar stuff. Karen, what’s the name of that Cooking for One site again?

Speaking of cooking, it’s time for me to head to the kitchen and get my dinner started. Steak mashed potatoes and green beans are on the menu today.

Good afternoon gals.

Did a haircut down the street earlier. A new client in the park.

I found my single electric burner in my shed and just used that to brown my hamburger for sloppy joes. The instructions said it is only good for heating up water and warming things. But it gets very hot and did a great job on the hamburger! I used a can of Manwich but didn't care for the taste so I added some BBQ sauce and it is much better now. I usually use Not So Sloppy Joe sauce but I can't find it in the stores anymore so I order a few at a time on Amazon. Need to order more of them.

I have looked at the recipes for the Cooking For One but seems like a lot of ingredients and work just for one small portion. If I am gonna go thru all that work, I want to make enough to make it worth while. I can make several meals or snacks in the same amount of time. I like the Eating On A Dime page. They have a lot of easy, cheap to make recipes.

Romeow has settled down some and is back to his charming, sweet, loving self again (most of the time) :D

Got a text this morning from the General Manager asking if I received my Turkey gift card. She says they give one to all their employees every year 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. Well, I didn't get one this year and I haven't ever gotten one previous years. :? (I would have remembered that). I guess my manager forgot to give me the one for this Thanksgiving. It doesn't much matter since I won't use it anyways for myself and will just donate it to the local food shelf, but still would be nice if I was getting these things when they give them out to everyone else.

I went to remove the battery from my ebike and I can't get it out. I followed the instructions and turned the key the way I am supposed to but it won't budge. Maybe I can get Dave to get it out for me. I think he is getting tired of always coming over to help me with stuff like this, but I don't know who else to ask. I mostly know just the women around here. There is one guy I could ask but his wife talks non-stop and I can never get away from her.

I can't afford to leave my job until either I sell my house or until March when I get my first SS check, whichever comes first. Hopefully, I will have to house sold and be on the road by March!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Karen, I finally searched and I do have a Thanksgiving cactus. It is just getting buds so I was confused. It did say during blooming fertilize every two weeks. Also to transplant after blooming.I already like your cooking site because I like to cook from scratch so I have control of ingredients. I cook for the freezer but like this site for the occasional food I love but shouldn’t. Sharon, another hint. I made a batch of chocolate chip cookie dough this summer, rolled it into cookie size balls, froze on a cookie sheet and then put in a freezer bag. They are harder to eat that way. But 7 minutes in the airfryer when thawed. Lol Geezz, it’s 10pm and I am talking about food. I’m not hungry because I had 3 cookies after dinner.

It was very foggy again this morning and it will be again tonight. Everything was wet from the fog, even Buddy, the neighbor's cat that has taken over the back porch. It got up to 88 today. It's a good thing the air conditioner is running because the humidity is between 70 and 75%. The temperatures are suppose to go down next Wednesday after 2 days of rain.

I bought a can of mix for sloppy joes but haven't tried it yet. I got a can of spicy for my son and I keep forgetting to ask him if he tried it.

I still have the recipe for the pecan pie for one on my desk and haven't made it yet. I brought a big piece of cake home from the Christmas Party and I'm still eating on that. My freezers are so full, I need to quit buying frozen food and eat what I have. Barbie, maybe the meat department would cut your turkey in half. We use to get big turkey's at work and I would get it cut in half.

My sister and I both got a letter from a cousin wanting pictures of our grandparents. I ended up with most of the pictures. My sister called tonight and said she needed to come so we could go through the pictures. I don't know what makes her think I need her help. I'm going to put some in the mail before she decides to show up. She told me she, her granddaughter and the granddaughter husband were going to come to my house for Christmas. I told her I wouldn't be home. I don't know where I'm going but I won't be home.

Beth, I'm glad you made it to your winter home.

it was /is cold today... I think it may have gotten into the 20's but not sure... I was so cold last night that I went and checked the thermostat to see if mom turned it off ... she hadn't it's just been cold... again
did you all see the moon last night it was so pretty tried to get a picture but it was shining so bright through the icicles that it didn't look like it would take well... I actually believe I saw Mars as well ...
went to the store I think I need to go look at the receipt and see what cost so much.. I didn't think I got that much but it came to over a hundred dollars ... :o :o need to pay more attention to what I put in the cart... I had to laugh several times I ran across this little old lady in the meat dept she was saying how expensive things are in the baking aisle we smiled at each other in the area by the batteries she was telling me that the Kroger brand potato chips were pretty good and then I ended up behind her in the check out... she did chat a bit  I called nephew over to the store as I needed battery for the key fob couldn't even figure out how to get it open his solution was that he'd come get the key and take it to the dealership and just have them replace the battery... so guess that will happen tomorrow... we had blue sky tomorrow good possibility of snow tomorrow...
going to make peanut butter pie tomorrow for our church Christmas party tomorrow night... was going to do it tonight but forgot to buy the cream cheese so need to get it out of the fridge early on...
sure didn't hear the alarm this morning so woke up later than normal..
mom's dr called today her blood work was good... she has been anemic for years and refused to take any and now I can't come up with the pill for it.... hate it when I totally have a brain fog... anyway we just give it to her she doesn't even know she is getting it... it's the supplements the dr wants you to take... and we are getting away with it...
need to figure out what to do with basil .... when at the store my nephew mentioned he might be going to Albertson's I asked if he would look for some fresh rosemary as they didn't have any at Smith's so he brought over a big clam shell of basil!!! if I knew how to make pesto I'd do that but I sure don't know how and that would also require me to know how to use mom's thing that I don't have so can't remember what it's called boy I am bad tonight
like the name buddy we are eagerly waiting for pictures though...
hopefully your house will sell quickly Barbie it's so different to sell a house like you have it would be nice to be able to leave your work sooner than later
you all have great day
