Snowy Thursday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Snowy Thursday

Postby Colliemom » Thu Nov 17, 2022 9:39 am

Good Morning from the snowy 45th. Good old lake effect starting in. We are under a Winter Weather Advisory for the next 24 hours. 3-6 inches possible. Some areas may see as much as a foot. This is an ongoing 3 day event as a cold front will be dropping down tomorrow which will drive the windchills into the teens. Snow totals will depend upon which way the winds are blowing. You can’t predict lake affect snow because a slight change in the wind can throw those snow bands a different direction. It’s a very dry fluffy snow and it can pile up fast. It will be a good day to be in the house working on my wood crafts.

This has been a busy week and like Beth, I too am scheduling appointments for various exams and stuff. Had an appt. With my NP’s office last Friday and met with the PA. Like Karen, we went over my past history, talked about known family medical history etc., got weighed, BP checked etc and the usual blood work ordered, will get a bone density and mammogram done as well. Those two tests won’t be done till end of January. Did the blood work on Monday and have follow up appt. On 28th. Had the stitches from the Mohs surgery removed on Tuesday and a hair cut yesterday. Dentist appt. On the 5th of Dec. for regular cleaning and that should be the end of appts. For this year. Already have at least 3 on my calendar for next year  That is when I get my calendar. My credit union gives out free calendars but they don’t have them until after Thanksgiving. YepKaren, our calendars get full of medical stuff anymore now.

The other interesting thing that happened early this week was a major power outage early Monday morning. I was in the bathroom when the lights went out. They came back on but very dim, then my generator took over. Voila :D Apparently had something to do with a high voltage transmission system transformer or something. At first they were saying that our power would not be restored until mid afternoon but then they said they were trying to see if they could reroute it. Did come back on in a little over two hours so they must have been able to reroute it through a different grid. I had been fasting for the past 14 hours and was going into town to get that lab work done. When I walked out the door, you could hear the sound of generators going in the neighborhood from those of us who have them. But all the way into Gaylord, the power was out and the traffic lights were not working. I only had five to go through when I get up near town. Fortunately drivers were practice the 4 way stop rule for the most part. I was beginning to get worried that maybe the power outage also affected the hospital and that 14 hours of fasting I had been for naught. But that side of town has power so it was OK, whew.

Velda, you asked back on my General Talk thread on wood crafts, if my woodcrafts last from year to year. Yes they do unless the wood warps or something. Being that they are seasonal themed, they are only out for a few short months or weeks as is the case during the holidays. Then they are stored either in my basement or shed. Sometimes after a while, I get tired of the same ones and I will put them out by the road and give them away or sometimes they get thrown out because they are getting a beat up looking. I have two of them right now that I am redoing because the poly that I put on them last year got the white areas on a couple, all yellow and blotchy. So I am sanding them down and I am going to redo them. I may change the patterns for something different. I go on my computer and I look for printable Christmas coloring pages or something like that, that I can run off on my printer and then transfer them to the wood.

Time to get moving here. Run the vac and go Christmas theme page hunting. Also I need to put varnish on the other Christmas decorations that I have done, so that I can get them assembled. I’m hoping to put the stuff out later on Thanksgiving weekend if the weather cooperates. Have a nice day everyone.

Sue, glad you got to find out that your generator works as it should!

I went to bed around 9pm last night since I was falling asleep reading on my laptop. I was quickly awakened later on by loud beeping and lights flashing! It was my propane alarm!! :o I didn't smell anything but I quickly ran outside and turned off my propane tank, and then came in and opened all the windows. I think I will call the gas company tomorrow and see if they can come out and find out what the problem is. I am sure that is tied in with the oven issue.

Romeow started in on his middle of the night escapades again but I was ready with my water bottle sprayer and that put a pretty quick end to that! Luckily, I was able to get back to sleep right away.

Off to work shortly. Hopefully will be like yesterday, just slow/steady. We are selling our prepaid $10.99 haircut cards now (our haircuts are regularly $21), and have a contest going for whoever can sell $3000 in card sales by Dec 11th. Well, I think I am already over $2000 just since Saturday! We get a $50 gift card if we make it.

I woke up with a fauxhawk hairstyle this morning! I guess I better wash it this morning! Lol! I am still tired and could easily go back to sleep for a few more hours but...maybe tomorrow :?

Have a good day and bundle up if it is cold where you are!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

It's sunny and bright and 52° here. No rain in sight. Ski areas in Sierras were able to open early due to snow making and the last storms. Son had his psychiatrist check Tuesday and that's our only appointment this week. Hopefully next week his second pair of glasses will arrive as its only about 3 weeks until eye Dr closes his office to semi retire. The nerve of my doctors and providers to age along with me and one by one retire! I hate having to "break in" new "kids"!
I'm still having these severely exhausted days where I just have to cancel everything and sleep most of day (from the virus +vaccines) , but they seem to get further apart and last shorter time. Last week I set a new personal record for steps in a week, this week I'm lucky to reach average. One day at a time, I guess.
All of you in the snow and cold stay safe and warm.

Dang it was cold outside this morning 29 AND now it is almost 1pm and it is still cold 34. So decided after I had lunch I would make some banana nut muffins, use the oven and disperse more heat. AND satisfy my craving for something sweet. They are baking as I type.

Busy this morning off and on but dont have to go anywhere today so still sweats and sweatshirt time. Sue glad you are getting all your appts caught up. If your lab is attached to a hospital they have a generator that kicks on in the event of power failure so your lab would have been ok. Ya know we cant let those patients on vents not have electricity. I love my Internal Medicine PA, I like PA's and NP's as they take so much more time with you and they listen. Most docs ears I think are just for decoration. They always want to get you in and out. Not all of them but many of them. Altho my pulmonologist the other day spent over an hour with me, getting a history (even tho she read it on the computer) looked at my test results. Shared my CT scan pictures and explained in detail what she saw and what she thought about it. Then conducted a pretty good physical exam. So I lucked out there.

Okay time for my mocha and a muffin......soon. Now the dang things have to cool.

Velda so sorry you are still having those symptoms of long Covid. I am lucky I am now 100% recovered. I have gained 15lbs, soon to be 16 after the muffins LOL Barbie yes, call the gas company have them check it out. We are not allowed to have gas in a mobile home park here in Oregon. They were trying to change that law but not sure if they did or not yet. I think it makes sense other than the fact I love gas stoves.

My day started at 5:45 am when I got a phone call from the nurse at the hospital where my aunt is staying because of Influenza A. The hospital is in northern Atlanta, so they have no idea how early it is for me. Then, got another call half an hour later, and another an hour later!! Ruins your morning, to say the least!! The good news is that they are letting her out tomorrow. She is still very shaky and weak from being sick and also losing almost 20 pounds over last three weeks from not eating enough. So, I have arranged for a 24 hour private caregiver to watch and assist her for the first three or four days when she gets back to her memory care facility. My concern is that she will try to get out of bed and fall on the way to the bathroom or whatever. She is pretty mobile and uses a walker, but sometimes she takes a few steps without it, so that will be a disaster if she is weak.

So, I managed between other phone calls this morning to sleep in to 11 am, but I am still tired. Making some hot rolls, but need to go outside while they are rising and put stuff away so I can take off early tomorrow morning. Heading to LV to drop my bike off for repair and to do some shopping. Will spend one night in Boulder Beach campground and then head for the airport late on Saturday night. Am flying to Ohio for Thanksgiving and my colonoscopy--how exciting!! Got my suitcase packed and am making sure I have everything I need in my purse and computer backpack.

went to the store today got what I went for plus more chocolate milk is what I went for but I also had other things on the imaginary list... but had to get the milk so I put it on the running board of the motorized cart paid for my stuff when I realized that I'd not put the milk and half and half up... that came to 10 dollars need to go look at the receipt... although milk is at 5 but didn't realize the 1/2 and 1/2 was as much oh well it is one of the things that we use...
I wish Sue that we had your temps... it's going to be in negative degrees for a few days during the night time... just not fun... we used to get lake effect when we lived in SLC I remember calling into work one day saying I couldn't come to work due to the snow he disputed the snow... said he would come get me but I would have had to walk blocks to get to where he could pick me up... he was from Florida and so didn't get "lake effect" when I went to work the next day I could understand why he didn't see the problem ....nary a bit snow... heard on the news that some where back east you are getting lots of snow or least have the potential of lots of snow like feet of snow....
Barbie those brownies really are good... I would cut the recipe in half after your oven works well.. hope you get the propane figured out...
a movie what fun... we had some here in Jackson Shane Walton's but can't remember what it was called for the movie and a few other movies that I can't remember
you all have a great day

Judy, your aunt is very lucky to have you. Velda, I'm sorry also that you're still having problems. It's wonderful to see Karen finally over it.

After really disliking the pa I saw last year, I almost skipped an appt this year. But I knew it is necessary. It's sad that I was glad the pa was gone. I'd not had trouble with pa's in the past, but this one rubbed me the wrong way. The doctor today I liked. And she never mentioned a colonoscopy so I liked her even more. I'd have to look up my last but I'll stretch the years out before doing it again. I love that this office is part of the local hospital so just a bit ago I was reading her notes on our visit and the results of todays blood tests. Now I'm just waiting on calls from the hospital for the two tests (mammogram and dexa) that she ordered. My fingers are crossed they can get me in before the end of the month. If not I'll have to schedule them for when I'm back. She wants to see me in 6 months unless any tests warrant another visit before I got the road. I'm 90% sure I'll be telling the Riverside ranch folks that I won't be able to come back. And I can legitimately say that I have to be back here in 6 months.

I do love my little Casita. I know I'm not sure what the future will bring but when I'm here I always remember why I purchased this lot.

Tomorrow I'll start doing a bunch of loads of laundry in my small washer. Also a grocery store run. And Ty and I never got off property into the desert today so that's a must.
