Snowy Saturday

Morning all. Chilly 32° Here this morning. We had a light dusting of snow last night on the roof tops and here and there on the grassy areas. It’s time. Was 74 here on Thursday. Probably the last we will see of those temps till next year. Opened up the house a bit to let in the fresh air. That was the day to get anything done outside that needed to be done and I have everything done. My lawn tractor is parked away for the winter and it’s battery is in my basement, my yard is clean of leaves except for those that are still blowing around a bit, but that’s no big deal. I also got the front windows on the house washed, because when we had the storm a couple weeks ago, the wind was blowing so hard, that it literally blew water and all over the front of the house and my windows. My shrubs are covered so the snow doesn’t weigh them down this winter and I took my recycles up to the recycle bin to clear my can out. Gas can has gas for the snowblowers. Driveway markers are in place and anything that might freeze in the garage in the house. Not all of this was done on Thursday though, as I’ve been doing things the last few weeks. Right now the sun is shining, the forecast is calling for around 1 to 3 inches of snow by tonight. But with north/northwest winds it will probably be more to my last until they switch to the Northwest later tonight. So O’Sharon, colder weather is heading your way and down south too.

Todsy, or at least this morning, I’m going to give my bathroom and kitchen a good cleaning and run the vac. I have another woodcraft project in the works for Christmas, so will be working on that too. Part of it is ready to go. I had to fix my Thanksgiving ones because the wind literally bent the stakes that I had used to put them out so I had to bring them here and put different ones on and put them back out. I wasn’t planning on a 60 mile an hour wind when I put them out there. I also brought one of the turkeys in and repainted part of it. It shows up much better now. Velda, you had asked me a while back about posting some of the pictures on how I do my woodcraft projects and they are now posted in General Talk.

Sounds like everybody is keeping busy. I am glad that none of you suffered any damage from Nicole. Hopefully that will be the last one. I got my flu shot yesterday and will do the Covid booster and Shingles shot later after my arm recovers from the flu shot. I get the stitches removed from my Mohs surgery on Tuesday. Gonna be glad when they are gone. Had my annual check up yesterday and now for the bone density and mammogram and labs etc. Always something.

But I gotta get busy here and get moving on this cleaning business. So I’m going to wish you all a nice day out there.

Good morning gals!

Was chilly overnight. Had to turn the heat on in my bedroom during the night. I love my Mini-split system because I only had to turn the heat on in my bedroom and didn't have to heat up the whole place like I used to. Saves so much energy that way.

I didn't quite finish the living room last night. Just need to clean off the kitchen table and a few other small things and that will be done. Also need to take out the trash and try to get some laundry done today, as well as get the porch cleaned up. It all seems to take longer than I figure it will, or am I just moving slower?

My shoulders have been feeling good lately, but my lower back is sore. My sciatica only acts up at work tho.

I was watching TV last night for about 2 hours, and Romeow was batting around his toy mouse for that whole time, having a blast! He loves his mice! I will probably never have a mouse problem in the RV. He will be quick to take care of any that dare to come in!

It was 80 degrees Thursday, this morning it is 26 with about 2 inches of snow! I already have the winter doldrums! Our house if very quiet, Emma is at another dog show and won't be home until Sunday night or Monday morning.
Sue you certainly have all the steps worked out and the equipment to do your woodcraft projects. I would have all my fingers cut off using that saw. You have so many talents and you do them so well! I'm sure they bring a smile to everyone passing by.
This week must have been the week for doctors visits. I had my 6 month check up and all my labs were good. My BP was pretty high when I first went in as I hadn't been able to get in touch with the homeopathic doctor in Brazil and I was hurting quite a bit. While I was waiting on the doctor I got a message from her. They took my BP again and it had dropped 20 points on both numbers. Anxiety and pain is not good for the body. I'm better, I found out I didn't follow her directions correctly on the new treatment she prescribed. Portuguese is her first language and once in awhile her English and mine are not quite the same.
It's lunch time and I need to eat that was the other thing noted yesterday, I had lost 4 pounds.

Barbie I was thinking about some of your recent postings about stuff you were accumulating for your RV and travels. I know that the experience of others is just that and you are pretty independent about what you want and do but…. Don’t over purchase stuff for you adventure. Imagining what life on the road might be and actually living it are two different things. If you need an electric bike you can always purchase one. It is good if you have a history of riding bikes for the last ten years. Remember all the stuff you have recently had to go through and get rid off. All purchases that I am sure you thought you needed at the time. Give yourself time to adjust to life on the road and then figure out what might work best for you. There are sources for stuff anywhere you might want to drive off to. Save your money. Down the road something else may show itself to be even more important. I will go back to being silent now.

The high today was 60 and now it's 48 and very windy. I forgot to check the rain gauge to see if we got any rain. If it rained I didn't hear it. My sister said it stormed at her house last night for several hours. I let Sugar out a little while ago and noticed I had left the lights on in the motorhome. I unloaded some summer clothes this morning. I think I need to load my flannel pj's. I found the curtains I use to block off the cab washed and folded in a container in the old house. I sure don't remember putting them away. I had to get a new curtain rod because the old one is all rusted. I will have to store the curtain rod in the house.

I finally made it to World Market in Lafayette. I stopped for some Creme Brûlée mixes and they only had 2. I wandered around and bought cookies. I haven't had their Gingersnaps in a long time.

My shoulder is bothering me a lot at night. It doesn't bother me during the day unless I pick up something heavy. It will wake me up at night if I turn the wrong way and I think I dream about getting up and taking something. I need to find a small pillow to put under my arm. The wind has knocked a bunch of limbs out of the tree in front of the house. If I bend over to pick up a limb I have sciatica pain when I try to straighten up. I should find the rake and rake them into the ditch and quit picking them up. It's not fun getting old.

I should look for some catnip mice for the cats. They use to like them. They take turns laying on the catnip thing I made. I thought I had made two but don't know where the other one is. My son and I were trying to figure out how old Stinky is and we think she is about 17. Annie and Possie aren't far behind her.

This is my photo of the original privacy curtains. The problem is twofold--they do not go down far enough to prevent drafts from the cab and they are too narrow, which means in the past, I have had to put pillows to fill in the spaces, as you can see from this photo.


Here is my almost finished replacement. I folded the top of the fabric over and used that tape that you iron on to seal it. I have also done some hand stitching to make sure the seam stays closed. Finally, I added snaps to the top so the new curtain could be snapped onto the trim piece where the old curtain was snapped in place.


The new curtain is much longer, though it could have been a few inches longer, and there is enough fabric to wrap around each side. However, I ran out of steam, so will work on fitting it around the sides and adding snaps to the wooden board that divides the cab from my living area and then adding snaps to the fabric tomorrow or the next day.

My only regret is that I should have gotten thicker material. The material is a very tight weave, but it is thin. However, since the new curtain is intended mostly as a draft prevention, it should be OK.

Judy, would bubble wrap stick to the windshield and door window to help insulate the cab. A roll is inexpensive, easy to install and remove and could be rolled to store. You do a good job of creating the snap curtain.

Last time I was in really cold weather, Shirl, I put shrink wrap stuff on my windows. It has not been quite that cold yet, so I am holding off because I have been opening them during the day. The other problem is that I do not tow, so I have to drive this thing to the store and out sightseeing, out to do laundry, etc, so I don't want to put too much stuff in the cab that I would have to remove often.

Also, days are very sunny, so unless there is a breeze, I still have to run the AC a few hours during the day. Crazy weather! In two weeks, I'll be at Willow Beach for 10 days, and temps at night should be a little warmer than here--like maybe 40 degrees average in December with highs averaging at 64. (This week temps here are supposed to be about 55 during day and high 30s at night.) Then, I'll be in Death Valley and Napa in December, and temps in DV should be low 40s and mid-60s. Hopefully, by the time I get to Arizona in late January, it will be a little warmer.

I do have a big roll of leftover bubble wrap and even some of that silver insulation stuff if it gets much colder, so that is a good idea. I wonder, however, if a lot of cold air is coming from the holes where the pedals are located and around the engine cover.

I made the mistake of looking at the weather ugh!!!! if not tonight then tomorrow will be down into the single digits... I guess that is better than negative numbers... I just don't like the cold and you will probably hear me complain often...
it was just a really do nothing day mom came to see what I was doing I guess... had to admit to not doing anything... but I did get some word search done that was really on the top of the list... I did a couple pages on weather terms was somewhat interesting had to look up a couple of things... then did a page on the 17th state had to look up something there as well or was it the 1st state??? yes I did word search!!!
also talked with my eldest for a time for her a long time all of 40 minutes.. youngest called as well and was going to call back but she hasn't guess she forgot she was giving me the saga of her furnace...
so my do nothing day wasn't much different from any other day...
and since I did nothing not much to report...
Before I went on the cruise there were list upon list of what some one deemed necessary to bring and I did do a lot of the suggested needed stuff I way over packed... it's pretty much the same with getting into a RV one person will say this and that is absolutely needed and others will say more or no way is that needed...
I'm sure that we all have gotten rid of so much of what was totally needed but we found that we didn't need it at all and there are some things that they were so spot on...

You sound like me! Same issues! I have a stuffed otter that I use for under my arm when I lay on my side which helps a lot.

Judy, could you use a tension rod across the rig behind your front seats that goes from wall to wall? Or use velcro or Command hooks to put up a rod across there? That would block out that whole area from light and drafts, with a nice full length blackout curtain, and look nice and neat. I have seen other people have something like that. I will probably do something similar when I get an RV.

The top part with the bunk is not leaking cold air, so it does not need to be closed off. Also, my television uses that space to be folded back when i drive. And the snaps are very easy and do the same thing as a tension rod that might fall down. This way, I can easily pull it down during the day and fold it up, which I just did. Heading out for a walk today and to get some propane.

And actually, if you look up and to the left in the bottom photo, you will see that i do have a dark brown curtain that closes off the top bunk area. I seldom use it except it is a nice privacy curtain when I have company.

I will be tailoring the curtain I made a bit more and cutting off extra fabric when I get more energy.
