Beautiful busy Thursday!

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Beautiful busy Thursday!

Postby BarbaraRose » Thu Nov 10, 2022 12:28 pm

Slept in until almost 9 this morning. Got a package from Amazon already. A t-shirt I ordered that says "Sometimes I stay inside because it's just too peopley out there". So true! Will be great for when I am on the road! It is light blue so will go good with blue jeans.

I have a sweatshirt that I have had for many years but haven't worn it much because it has a green and brown design on it and I don't have pants that go with those colors (I am obsessively matchy-matchy!  ). I love the design on it (squirrels in an oak tree), so I haven't wanted to get rid of it, so I found a pair of soft corduroy sweat pants at WM yesterday that come in brown, black, and green. I got the brown ones to wear with the sweatshirt and they look great together! The pants will go nice with other tops I have too. I want my wardrobe to be all about comfort now. :D

Need to get up and moving here. Have a lot to do today! I always turn my music on to 70's hits and that gets me moving more! I can sing and dance a little while I am working and keeps my mood up! Whatever works, right? :D

Have a good day!

Good Morning, The movie I went to, is one of those buildings with many small theaters. We were in theater 17. At the 11:00 time we went, we were the only ones in the theater! I would call “Tar” a drama. No violence. Lots of drama. I do not like violence either.
I used to like to coordinate my shorts and tops when I was on the road.
Sandi, are you doing OK?
I am still getting strawberries, one at a time. While Val is here, I am giving them to her.
It was cold enough here to make the headlines in the paper this morning…48*
I had bought Benji a sweater some time ago. He never wore it. Val is taking it back to NH with
Her!
Barbie, there are several RV lots east of you on Hwy 10 in Beaumont and Banning. Then there is at huge RV place on Hwy 215 somewhere south of Riverside. Sometime on your day off you could go looking and get some ideas of what you like and don’t like. Maybe leave your phone # with a salesman if he ever gets anything in that meets your criteria. You must be excited about your new adventure. I’m excited for you.

Good morning. Had to get going early this morning. Met Chris Vanderpool Bowman and her hubby at the Casino for breakfast. Just half an hour south of me. Very enjoyable time. We chatted quite a bit LOL They are off to the coast Coos Bay to visit her son and family for a couple of days then off to the Seattle area to see her daughter and family as they get ready for the new bambino arriving sometime soon. Was really good to meet them.

It was rather chilly out this morning 32 and only going to warm up to 48. Oh well I dont have anything to do outside. Going to make spaghetti for dinner tonight. Right now I am pretty full from breakfast.

Couple housekeeping chores, bathrooms to clean and run the vacuum thru my bedroom. So nothing big. Get my trash together for tomorrow. That is my exciting day.

Hi ladies!

Barbie, I like to color coordinate my clothes, too. I do that everyday when I get my outfits out for the next day, whether we are going somewhere or staying in. Lyn, I agree with you about Barbie looking at RV's now rather than just later. I understand her logic about not being able to buy anything now, but when there are hundreds, even thousands of RV's out there, check them out so you don't have to do so much after your home sells. Steve looked online for RV's for a couple years before we finally found and bought the one we have now. Karen, you can enjoy the cold weather while looking out from the inside!

We survived Hurricane Nicole. We think this storm was a little more severe than Ian, as the winds were much stronger although we got a little less rain. Steve & I were in a minor accident a couple days ago, but not nearly as bad as Sharon's. Steve pickup can be fixed, although it was hit by a tractor trailer. The driver of the other truck was at fault and has agreed to pay for the repairs. We would have gotten the truck fixed regardless, so we'll see what happens.

I went to get my blood work done and came home and made chicken and sausage gumbo. It's not quite gumbo weather yet but my son wanted some. It's only 82 today instead of 94. It's suppose to get down in the 30's Saturday night. I haven't looked to see how cold it is going to be next week where we will be camping. I put a coat and leggings on my list to load. Better unload the capris and load some long pants.

I have just started listening to music in the vehicles sometimes. It use to make me too sad. My son was driving the truck and I couldn't bring myself to change the station he listened to.

Two of the ladies at the meetup group told me about needing a reservation to go to a movie. That is ridiculous to me. They showed up at the theater and couldn't see the movie. There is a theater in Lake Charles where you can order a meal. Remember how sticky the floors were with all the spilled cokes. I wouldn't want to clean up after a bunch of people that had food.

I haven't seen Chris in quite a few years.

Irmi, hope you don't have any damage from the storm and don't lose power. The coast is really taking a beating.

I haven't made pralines in a long time. After I put the gumbo up I might make some pralines if I get ambitious.

Drove into town and did three loads of laundry yesterday, so that took up the entire day. Barely got home before dark, which is about 4:30. Need to remember to start things earlier so I will not have to drive after dark. HATE going off of daylight savings time! And will be glad when days start getting longer in late December. I slept in today and am catching up on a few cleaning things and making some phone calls.

Which reminds me. Still have not found my bike keys, so called a local Pedego Bike shop and they have spares I can buy. Also decided since I have not ridden my bike since before I went to the UK and fell there and in Rocky Mtn National park, I would get them to clean up my chain and adjust it. Also, just needs a general checkup. Big advantage to doing it now is that I can leave it with them while I fly off to Ohio for Thanksgiving and my colonoscopy!! Not having bike on back to be stolen is a big worry off my mind!

Beautiful sunny but chilly day today. Things have settled down after the big rain on Tuesday and the winds Tuesday night and early morning. I had put my slides in part of the time, but I was still worried about my canvas slide toppers tearing. I check it first thing yesterday morning, and all was well--no damage to those or my awning. I know it can tear even when rolled up, so worried about it as well. I spent a lot of money about it and slide toppers two summers ago, so did not want damage again.

Finally, I have traced my ancestors on my maternal grandmother's side in North Yorkshire all the way back to the 1550s, with my 9th and 10th great-grandparents!! I got results of my DNA tests and was able to confirm I had the right people on that arm. However, it is VERY, VERY frustrating that so many of my so-called "matches" do not even have family trees posted, or if they do, are only very rudimentary, which means their being a match is useless to me!!!! I guess all they care about is their nationality percentages. And as I suspected, I have 6% Danish and Scandinavian, which is most likely due to Vikings who settled in Yorkshire. For some reason, a lot of the Viking invaders chose to settle in that area, rather than other areas of England. And I am 50% Scottish, but only about 15% English, which was surprising since so many of my ancestors came from England, and 12% from Wales, of which I have no information! It turns out that some of my relatives came from Bath, which originally was on the border of Wales. And some of the people from Yorkshire originally came from Scotland. Strange, but interesting learning about history.

I wasted half of the day on-line trying to deal with transferring my new phone to the new carrier. At first I wasn't able to connect with their chat on their website, then I kept getting error messages, and they have no customer service phone number. I finally contacted them thru their FB page. Lots more problems with dealing with them for over an hour that way. Then my laptop froze and I ended up having to shut it down and reboot. So had to start over on the FB page with them. I was getting nowhere with them after another hour! I finally contacted my original carrier (Total by Verizon) to see if my new phone was compatible with their service and it is. I checked the cost of adding a hotspot and it isn't much more than the new carrier so I decided to just stay with them and switch to the new phone and upgrade my service to add the hotspot. They have really good customer service.

So that used up a few hours of my life I will never get back! In the meantime, I was trying to get dishes washed and clean the kitchen. That is almost done, just need to wash the floor. But I was hoping I could get to the living room today too. Will try again tomorrow...

Last night I went to feed Karma the fish and accidentally dumped a pile of pellets into the tank (I usually give him 4 or 5) :o . Spent the next 10 minutes chasing pellets around the tank trying to remove them all. Not easy when they move away from anything you put in the water! I got most of them but will probably have to vacuum the bottom of the tank soon to remove the ones he didn't eat. I had spilled the can of pellets in the tank as I was trying to keep Romeow from getting his head into the tank while I had the top open.

I put Romeow's new harness on earlier and he is dealing with it but not too happy about it. Hopefully, he will get used to it soon.

Was a beautiful day today. Perfect temperature and light breeze.

I haven't had much time to look at RV's lately. Once I get the house listed, hopefully next week, I can start looking at some. I pretty much know what I want. I am looking for a Class C with a layout similar to the first travel trailer I had, with the bed in the back corner next to the bathroom. Have seen several in the 23-25 ft lengths that have that layout. Would like to stay under $30K. Prices are coming down now which is good.

Sheila, I joined that Q arts and crafts FB page. Thanks! Looks fun!

It was 72 here today and the road crews were out spreading salt solution. I bet that is the first time they have been out when it was in the seventies. Guess they are anticipating the cold front coming in with lows at night of 22. I think the last movie I saw at a theater was the Horse Whisperer which came out in 1998. I just don't care for movies much and really don't like to go to theaters.

Irmi I hope you and Steve are ok, having a tractor trailer hit you must have been really frightening. Martha pralines and gumbo sounds really good.

I guess the spam callers finally gave up. I had about 8 calls one after another around 4:30 saying someone was trying to buy an iPhone on my Amazon account and to press 1 if it was me. I've never had any call back repeatedly like that. I never answered any of the calls but could hear what they were saying on the answering machine. I finally left the phone off the hook for about an hour and they stopped.

I was getting a lot of spam text messages about the election. Not only were they irritating, but they were mostly about things going on in Michigan, where I used to live. I turned in my drivers license when I moved, but I guess I was still on the voters roll, so I called my old township and asked them to please remove me from the voters lists. Wouldn't you think they would remove someone who had not voted in 10 years??? Obviously, I had moved, was in a coma, or was dead, right???

Also, an advantage with my satellite TV is that the only local channel I ever watch is PBS, so I do not get election ads for state and local races. None at all. I suppose that will change for the next national election. Nice to not be bothered, however, if I could only skip the Camp LeJeune lawsuit, the week killer stuff, the baby powder stuff, and all the rest of the ads from lawyers who are trying to make money on the rest of us!!

I made the pralines and they aren't very pretty. They started getting too hard fast. I always use the same recipe and make them the same way but they don't alway come out the same. Sometimes they aren't cooked enough and won't get hard. I make them in the microwave so can't use a thermometer. I have tried making candy on the stove and always burn it.

I don't get a lot of spam texts but sure get all the junk emails.

One of my motorhomes was a 24' with the corner bed. That bed was almost impossible to make. The mattress fit in there so tight I couldn't put my had between the wall and mattress. There was a shirt closet over the foot so I couldn't stand the mattress up. Pay a lot of attention to the bed over the cab. They are prone to leak. I would look for one that had a fiberglass overhang.

what you can do Barbie is write down some of the things you really won't compromise on...
for me it was having wall space to hang photo's of my family.... and a walk around bed... I'm sure there were other things but that is what I remember...oh and a slide got three.... one that I really wish to this day that I'd had added on was the slide cover....
and think of things to help with some issues like that bed that is hard to make ??? look into the can't think of what it is called but it suppose to help with making the bed perhaps other's know what I'm referring to.... not a sleeping bag but sorta similar...it's funny how one can narrow down pretty quickly the brands they want we pretty much liked keystone and varied between the Montana and the one we got which right now has slipped my mind... now you all know my love for the Cardinal you would have thought that we would have gone for the Cardinal 5th wheel ... nope looked at it and just didn't love it...
actually got to the store today nephew came and removed the snow yea for him... I was in the bedroom actually dressed but reading I'm not even sure if mom knew he came... maybe when he left but didn't hear him say anything to her... so she must have been asleep...
mixed peanut butter in with my hot chocolate... got too much in it so tasted more peanut butter than chocolate... guess there is a diligent balance
did my two 1/2 rows then fixed tortellini and a spinach/strawberry salad.. it was yummy the salad been wanting one for a long time...
trying to decide how long to make the fringe for the scarf I made... any suggestions?
hate it when the actress looks familiar but not totally guess I need to do some goggling... just did and not the person I thought she might have been... Google is so nice to have
I think getting candy to work right is a hit and miss most of the time...
we had a balmy 27 when I was at the store... it was soooooooooooo cold!!!!
Irmi hope you both are doing ok that had to be scary
I am one of those who can't remember the last movie I saw at a theater... it's been years think cost had something to do with it even when we would watch them at home I would rarely see the whole thing through...
Today is Larry's birthday he would be 84
you all have a great

Barbie - Beth and I had about the same layout you said you'd like. The corner bed in Flitter was a bear to make and nearly impossible to change the sheets because you had to actually kneel on the bed and pull up the corners. Yes, the queen bed was wall-to-wall, but I solved that by buying a double mattress. It was only a couple of inches narrower, but allowed my hands to tuck in sheets. It did hang over the cut-off foot corner, but didn't present a problem. Another solution I tried was using a spatula to tuck in the sides and corners. I loved Flitter and kept her quite a few years. My suggestion? When you rig shop, climb up on the bed and check out what you'd do. I liked the front overhang bed because I could store a lot of stuff up there, AND the cats always loved it! I bet there will be a lot of used units out there from all those people during the pandemic who thought, "Oh, let's just get an RV and hit the road! It'll be fun" and they had no idea how to take care of one and how to manage the lifestyle. Reality and high fuel prices have probably hit by now. Have fun shopping!

Sheila - Special days like their birthdays are always hard, but I have a saying taped to Joe's picture that I found in a magazine: "Don't cry because he's gone - smile because he was here!" We both had a wonderful, long, life with our guys and I still wish I could have had more. I think Larry must be so proud of you managing on your own like you've done.

Thank you for that quote, Evie.

Nearly all of the most meaningful, loving and loyal "people" I have ever had in my life, over my entire life (aside from my children), have been my dogs. (Hope this doesn't sound too strange for many of you).

I had quite a major "weepie day" yesterday thinking about all of them that have gone. Each one of them - who all lived to ripe old ages - took a piece of my heart with them that I will never get back. My sweet Joe turned ten years old this month, which didn't really help things either.

When his time with me inevitably comes to an end (he came to me at three years old), I really don't know what I will do.

I have a friend that told me once "Don't be sad about the good times that you no longer have - be thankful and glad that you had them for as long as you did". I struggle with that.

Well, gotta run. I feel the waterworks coming on again. I need to try to get them stopped.

Thanks.
