Monday, November 7

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Monday, November 7

Morning All, typical fall weather on the island, foggy and cloudy. No problem sleeping with the time change. Did struggle changing the alarm clock with 10 buttons. Life has been ho hum. Looking forward to shopping and Olive Garden with porch friend today. Did plant spinach seeds on the balcony. I used the plastic covered laundry basket green house so hopeful. Be safe

I had a nice weekend. The two daughters and I drove up to Apple Valley to visit the son ,and brother of the girls. He is the one with colon cancer. At the moment he is doing OK. We spent the night and came home Sunday. I laughed a lot. His wife has a very funny sense of humor. I do like her very much, and, she is a great wife for my son.
Changed the clocks, and my sleeping is really screwed up now. I really do not like this changing twice a year. I would prefer Daylight Saving Time , but wish they would settle on one, and quit having us change the clocks at all! Lyn

Cloudy and cooler here today. We are all trying to adjust to the new time. I agree with you Lyn I prefer Day Light time. Shirl enjoy your day out with your porch friend.
I spent part of the morning giving Pippa a bath. Surprisingly she seems to enjoy baths and is very good, she does get squirmy though when it's time to dry and comb her out. I used the dryer for awhile then let her run around and air dry.
Irmi I think it is wonderful that you have a talent you enjoy and one that also makes others happy.
I'm having vegetable beef soup, a glass of wine and strawberry rhubarb pie with vanilla bean ice cream for lunch. No I didn't cook :D

Well it is a darn chilly morning out there. Was 37 when I took the dog out at 4:30 Yup couldn't sleep past that time. And I went to bed at 10, trying to get back on sync. I dont mind so much getting up early but I was awake at 3:45 just wouldnt budge from my bed. Will take a few more days and then I should be on some sort of schedule.

BJ your meal sounds scrumptious, did the good fairy bring it LOL When I give Emma a bath she runs around like an idiot after I towel dry her.........we call it the "spin cycle". I dont bathe her very often and I have a good groomer now so happy about that. In my other house I had a laundry sink, but alas none here. I dont like bathing her in my kitchen sink much.
Lyn, so glad you had a great visit with your family and a road trip as an added bonus.
Shirl isnt cooking today. She will let the Olive Garden folks cook for her. Wish we had one here in Roseburg. I might get to go to one in a couple weeks when I go down to Medford for my infusion.
Well it has quit raining for now. We need the rain badly but it can quit for a couple of days and let the sun shine down on us. Wishful thinking probably, I am off to scare something up for lunch pretty soon.

Actually, we had a temp last night around 1 am of 64 degrees. I am used to leaving on my two small electric heaters because nights have been cold, but I got really hot in the middle of the night, so got up and turned them both off. Today is windy with a high of 72, so no wonder it was not cold last night.

Am making phone calls today and trying to get some business things solved. I was going to go out to dump my tanks and drive to the visitor center and maybe even take a walk, but it is too windy with sand blowing around. I even closed all my windows and have the AC running because the sand was blowing in. Checked my tanks and they really do not need emptying, so I will wait until tomorrow when wind calms down and we have some sprinkles.

Napa is supposed to have rain tonight. Any of you west coast folks get any yet?

Rain began just before midnight last night but didn't last long- got 0.41 Inches here. More coming, or so they say on local news. Sun just covered by big wet looking clouds. Though my back still hurts, I decided to get back to at least treadmill and walked 30 min (0.86 mi) while playing solitaire and mahjong on old iPad . Felt good. Oops, there comes sun again! rain supposed to reach us in around 1-2 hours. I'll believe it when my head gets wet when I step outside!
Waiting to hear from eye Dr that remade glasses are ready. Chris is so frustrated with the broken old glasses that keep falling off. No other appointments this week, was waiting to see how my back reacts to increased activity.
It's 56° here, maybe our high for day.
Lyn, so glad you had some good family time! Connections are so important.
Some of you will appreciate this, some won't, so won't show photo, but younger son got his first deer of season, helping reduce their grocery bill and will be in freezer in few days. He hunts with the rifle my Dad got his deer many decades ago. An important skill these days, ESP when you live where snow starts in Octorber! He also gardens, cans, and makes his own sauerkraut!
Have a good

No good fairy for this meal, the soup was from a restaurant near us and they do 'home style; cooking. The pie was from the Amish ladies who bake for the local Farmer's Market. One of my other dogs used to do the 'spin cycle' so funny.

Velda there are so many deer here they stroll through our neighborhood every day and eat all the flowers. They easily hop over our fence and of course that drives the dogs crazy. Some communities in other area with similar issues are offering hunters special hunting opportunities if they donate the deer for food pantries. The other positive thing is it will reduce the number who are dying due to over population. So while it is sad it actually has benefits.

Another do nothing day. I think it started warming up over night and got up to 94 today. I wasn't paying attention when the weather was on but think I heard something about a record high for the day. My roses must be liking this weather and are blooming like crazy. The one by the satellite dish needs to be cut back again. The grass is growing again since the rain so will probably have to mow in a few days.

There is an Olive Garden in Lafayette but I haven't been in a long time. I use to go with my friend that moved to New Orleans. It's really not my favorite restaurant. I have never eaten rhubarb. If it is sold around here I never noticed. My son took me to an Amish bakery in New Jersey and there was every kind of bread, pie, cake and cookies you could imagine. I would be in trouble if there was one near here.

I think Sugar is liking baths more. The first time I had to drag her all the way to the shower. The second bath she would go a few steps and lay down, go a few steps and drop again. Now she will just go get in the shower. She is such a good girl. She still has a hint of skunk but not bad enough for another bath. She almost killed another possum last night. I heard the commotion and went and put him over the fence. He was gone this morning so hope she didn't hurt him.

I seldom see any deer down here, especially since the hurricanes. There are a lot near where my sister lives. If I have to leave her house when it's getting dark I only drive about 45 until I get down to where there are rice fields and not woods.

Good evening gals!

Was a very busy day at work yesterday! Was very tired when I got home. Today was a longer day but not very busy. Just taking it easy tonight.

Tomorrow morning is the first day of putters golf. Should be fun!I
Then will start on the cleaning I didn't get to last week.

I haven't been to Olive Garden for a long time! I love going there! I love their fettucini alfredo. I keep waiting for their "buy one, take one home" deal. I get the fettucini to eat there and take home spaghetti, since fettucini doesn't keep or heat up well.

Lynn, glad you got to spend time with your son and daughters and had a fun time!

No rain here but very windy today and breezy tonight. Should open my windows but worried about dust blowing in that got stirred up in the air all day.

I bought a little toaster oven/air fryer the other day. I have a toaster oven and also an airfryer but decided to get a small one that does both. It looks just like my regular toaster oven (same size) which I use all the time. My other air fryer is the taller basket type but I like the idea of having the shelf and a window to see inside. This one will take up less room in the RV than the two appliances I have. Got a good deal on it at WM. Will sell my other stuff including my microwave. All three of them are red so maybe someone will want them all for their red-themed kitchen!

As far as looking for an RV now, I will probably start looking once I accept an offer on my house. I don't have the money to buy one until I get the money for the house. If I find one I want and I already have a closing date, I might be able to put a down payment on it to hold it until closing.

Need to get some dinner and finally change all my clocks!

just slightly more than a do nothing day  had 4 things I planned on doing got 2 done... so that is a positive... I can do the other two things tomorrow or not...
they have been advertising this movie for Saturday night finally had to google the star as I knew he was familiar scrolled through some of his movies/tv stuff and there was sea hunt yep remember that...
and probably others but this is the one that I stopped at...
it was above freezing here so instead of snow we had rain or sleet then it left heavy wet stuff on the drive way... hardly got the garbage can down to the street... my flip flops didn't hold up to the heavy white stuff..
watched a video taken up on the pass... it was a mess... looked like several fender benders and people pulled over to the side of the road and even a big tow truck... the problem is that once you get stopped on the up side it's really hard to continue... we used to have a station wagon and I remember many times we would be going up and dad would yell into the back guess the weight of several kids gave him what he needed to go ahead... I am just glad I have no reason to go over the pass right now I'd probably go around.. I don't mind the pass especially if someone else is driving
I did get the ashes out of the pellet stove wasn't as much as I expected just a lot up in the top part but I still shoveled it out (a hand type shovel)
you all have a great day

I had an old '67 Chevy Impala that I would put 2 concrete blocks in the trunk in the winter. That would help me get up the hills in the snow! Just can't loose your momentum or you will be at the bottom of the hill again! That car would go thru anything tho!

When Mel went to Guam for almost 2 years, leaving me at our Reno home, I knew his Datsun 280Z was better in snow, so I got the spare from our other car (a big Ford sedan) and put the tire in the rear storage area of the Z to add extra weight. It helped as most of the road to town and work was downhill, then back up to come home! A few times we had feet of snow with only busier streets plowed! And here in west they don't use sand or salt on city streets or roads. That big tire made the difference between getting stuck or making it to work a few times.
