Cloudy Friday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Cloudy Friday

Postby Colliemom » Fri Nov 04, 2022 8:18 am

Good Morning. Cloudy here at the 45th and 57°. Might have some rain showers later on. Has been beautiful weather here for the past week. Temps in the upper 60s and sunshine.

Been a busy week for me. Wanted to get leaves cleaned up, neighbors lawn tractor put away for winter, some errands run and some wood crafts cut out, before I had the Mohs surgery done yesterday. I knew that once I have that I am not going to be able to do anything physically strenuous for a little while. They don’t want you putting any strain on the stitches or making your blood pressure rise from straining on something to start bleeding. The surgery went very well. He took the mole and the tissue from both spots and analyzed them, then just had to do it one more time and that was it. I have stitches in both places now which as of right now are sore. That’s to be expected of course. I put ice pack on for a few minutes every couple a couple hours or so and if I need to I have some Acetaminophen I can take for pain. Tomorrow I can remove the initial bandage and clean the area and then just use band aids. I will get the stitches removed in 10 days and that should be the end of it.

Shirl you have been wondering what my latest project was going to be. I just put it out on Tuesday for the Thanksgiving period.
Image
This is the whole thing. Some of it was from last year and it was so popular I put it back out again.
Image

Now it’s off to the Christmas project. I might see if I can cut a little bit more out today. It’s not a strenuous thing, so I should be able to do it. However my saw has been giving me some trouble. Might have to invest in a new one as much as I hate to do it. I really like this one and if I can get the bottom base plate to stay put I’ll be OK. I took it apart yesterday and I think I fixed it, but I won’t know until I use it.

Beth, I think it’s a smart move to hold off buying anything in that park right now. Sometimes it’s better to wait a little bit and think it over more and see what the situation is down the line. You might find something better elsewhere. Barbie, it sounds like you’re moving right along there. Maybe you should just put that box of miscellaneous piddly stuff out and let somebody takeoff with what they want. My thing has always been that if you have stuff stored in a box and you forget what’s in there, you don’t need it. As to the electronics, do you have a Goodwill around there anywhere as they usually take that stuff. Too bad it isn’t an electronics recycling like we have here once a year. Lyn, glad that you had a nice visit with your daughter and she seems to be enjoying New Hampshire. She may find the winters to her liking, who knows. As far as septic tanks etc., Thty only need to be pumped out maybe every five years, so that’s no big deal. And it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to do it either. Water wells can last a long time, so unless something happens to the pump or something she don’t have to worry about that either. I have both here and also a back up generator now. BJ, well pumps don’t freeze anymore these days because most of them are submersible, inside the well casing, way below the ground level . Unless you happen to have an older system that it may be above the ground in a basement or a crawlspace or something and then they are insulated. I don’t know of anybody up here who has ever had an issue with the well pump in the winter. I know people who have had issues with water pipes, because they were gone for the winter or something and didn’t drain the pipes and they broke because the heat went out or some crazy thing.

Well, it’s time for me to get a move on. I have a couple of errands to run in town and then I want to try and get a urine sample for Miss Piper because she’s got a UTI again. Have a great day all.

Good morning Sue and all. It’s going to be another nice day until possible rain later this afternoon or evening. My son came yesterday and we got rid of most of the leaves in the yard but the driveway is no later yellow so I’ll just fine tune the rest. He did in one session what would have probably taken me days. Luckily he has a hitch on his truck so we were able to use my little trailer. I really need to just spend the money and get a hitch put on my car. Sure miss not having one. Still miss my old car! My neighbors did some tree trimming for me and now most of the leaves are gone so it’s a win for me. Grateful for good people in my life. I’m reminded that sometimes I just have to ask for help, hard as it is to do. So today I think I’m going to mow the yard for the last time this season even though I’d love to jump in Lola and take a nice drive somewhere! Beth, good that you finally were able to head south! And Judy and Cheryl landing in warmer climates! Know this warm weather is a real bonus for us especially since it’s November! Tomorrow night is clock changing so dark will be coming sooner each day. Blah! It always takes a few days to get used to it. So guess I’d better go out and get busy. Have a wonderful day and stay safe.

Sue, I love what you do and it's so welcoming. I hope your community appreciates it as much as we do!

Sharon, sounds like you're ready for winter now. And, like you, I have trouble asking for help. Totally understand it.

Morning Sue and All, it’s very foggy and in high 59’s. Sue, thanks for your pictures, always look forward to your post. Not only do your efforts brighten your community but would think it encourages your neighbors also. Have a list of errands for today, picking up Amazon 18” Christmas tree and mini snowmen for a winter tree. Thought of other possibilities too. Need something to occupy my mind over the winter. Called my favorite small garden center to see if they had spinach seeds. Bless Dale who rooted through his stored seed box and found a pack. My children thank him for helping to keep me out of Smokey bars. Will see if I can have balcony spinach. Dollar general for mini tree lights. Watched Miss Lorrie who lives in Whipperwill Hollow in Arkansas fry cabbage last night. My dinner will be fried cabbage and pork chops. Never had fried cabbage , wish I had some of her bacon grease. Lol Be safe

Wow! I can't believe it is cooler here than it is way up north! It is 10:30am and it is still only 55* right now. I ran the heat all night but have the windows open a bit in my bedroom. Very little wind right now so less dust to come in.

Just waiting for the appliance guy to show up. Then I need to get busy around here. Lost some time yesterday messing with the phone issues and SS. Still not connected to the new phone yet so will see if I need to contact them again today  .

Have at least one haircut to do in the park today. Maybe a couple more.

...OK, bad luck again today!
The appliance guy just got here. Of course, the oven didn't misbehave so he couldn't do anything but then he still wants to charge me $85 for coming by! He was here all of 5 minutes and didn't do anything! He said he will have his office call me to get my cc info. I am gonna fight that.

Between this and my car, I think I have a ghost playing tricks on me! :o
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

I agree with what Sue said about pumps and septic tanks. We had those at our cottage at the tip of the Thumb in Michigan, and we had a ton of people visiting and staying with us, but did not need to replace the well and water pump for 40 years. And I don't think we had the septic tank pumped more than every 10 years. It was long enough that we once forgot where it was. The well was about 40 feet away from the house in the woods and everything was buried below the frost, including the pipes to the house. The big problem was shutting everything down if we went away for a period. We'd often use the cottage in the winter, but had to drain all the pipes in the house before we left. We did leave some power on and kept the furnace on very low, but you never knew when something might break, so we drained pipes. After my dad died, I wrote down the process and then put numbered tags on each faucet and pipe to match the process so my brother or someone else would not miss something and cause a water mess!!

I made it to Valley of Fire today and even got the last spot--which was a handicap spot, but I have a permit to show them when the camp hosts came around to make sure I was there legitimately. If there had not been an empty electric spot, I would have taken a dry spot and then moved in the morning. I really dislike these first-come campgrounds!

It is chilly out, but sunny, so it feels warm. Also, they had a lot of rain here yesterday and th3e ground is still wet. There are a lot of little and big places where the rain washed the sand out. In fact, the paved roadway coming in REALLY needs to be repaired because the edges are crumbling and there are quite a few spots where the road is getting really narrow from missing asphalt. You can tell that they did some shoveling and raking in the campground to put sand back to where it is supposed to be. I am here for 14 days and temps are supposed to be in the 60s, but then dropping to 50s later in the week. Nights will be in 40s and 30s, but as long as it is sunny, and I have electric to run heaters, I am happy. I am also going to be looking for the little bachelor herd of Bighorn sheep that tend to hang around here.

Sue, love your decorations! Shirl, Christmas decor sounds great! As much as I enjoyed the tree last year, it's not going up this year. I have decorations I didn't get out last year and ordering a few fun things -hand towels, shower curtain and kitchen mat with Christmas theme. Beth, wise decision on membership, but you'll know when time is right. Fall chores being done by some of you. Cheryl, hope you like the Tucson area - always thought I'd get back there (like many places.)

We had our first snow overnight and now rain so it's not pretty. 37 degrees at 2 p.m. Between Costco and Walmart, my kitchen is probably better stocked than ever. I got the new Covid shot Tuesday and expected it to hit me like the others. Arm has been a bit sore as expected, but I was only tired on Wednesday.

Good afternoon everyone. Cold, damp and breezy here today. Glad I am tucked in the house with nowhere to "have to go". Spent my morning sorting papers etc in my office. I dont know why I kept some of the stuff I did. Instructions on how to use my curling brush....seriously???'
And a bunch of other silly nonsense. I needed to shred some papers also so waded thru one drawer ha ha well ya know. ya gotta read em see if I need em type thing.

Going to make a mocha and sit back now as I have a sore back from leaning over in the office. Time to rest up. Dinner is leftover stuffed pepper. Cheesy cauliflower. Easy peasy.

Sue, your decorations are cute and funny. I am starting to see a lot of Christmas things and can't say I'm in the mood for Christmas. I keep looking at the end table I put the Christmas tree on and wonder what I would do with all the crap that's on it. It's by the front door so it's a catch all.

Shirl, you don't have a jar of bacon grease under your sink? I bake my bacon so there is usually a jar of bacon grease but I don't cook with it. I'll have to see how to fry cabbage. Harold liked smothered cabbage with sausage. I haven't made that in a long time. I hauled a feed tub up on the carport and filled it with dirt and don't know what to plant in it.

I picked up the motorhome this morning. After I got home I decided I needed to go to Walmart. Don't know why I didn't think about that when I was in town. I finally remembered to stop at Lowe's to look for a bolt I need to fix a lamp. I remembered that it's Friday and the deli has fried catfish so picked up dinner.

Barbie, hope you get your oven figured out. It's so aggravating when things do that. The service engine light go on in the truck every time I get gas. I have brought it in twice and they don't know what's wrong. Their solution is that the light will clear after so many starts so I'm just suppose to ignore it.

It is very windy and that makes my hair wild. I think I'll get it cut next week. We are suppose to have some bad weather come through early in the morning.

Sounds like everyone is busy here.
Sue, you are so creative! I love seeing what you make.
Barbie, how frustrating - both for your phone & your oven. All while you're trying to get your place on the market.
Lynn, glad you've had good visits with your daughters.

Folks getting snow already - yikes! I actually had to close my living room windows & turn on the furnace for about 5 minutes this morning.

I finally got my work laptop & fiddled with it today. My fingers remembered how to login in when my mind went blank due to using a Macbook for the past 3 years. I have a few questions for them before I actually start working and I have to keep reminding myself they only expect me to work about 10-15 hours/week.

French class is intense. I'm trying to work ahead as my daughter is arriving from France next week & then son from KS is coming out so we'll be at the lake house 2 weekends in a row. Going there is not relaxing for me but they all love it. I tend to manage the majority of the meals & get stressed when the kids don't get fed in a reasonable time frame. Jordi, especially, gets very cranky if he's hungry. Plus he always needs someone to play ping pong & foosball with him - and he knows I'm a sucker for his sweet face.

The new baby ended up with RSV - he's just 2 weeks old. Thankfully they took him to the ER at the children's hospital before it got too bad so he wasn't admitted. They just have had to suction out the little guy's nasal passages about every 1.5-2 hours - day & night. He's been seen by a doctor every other day this week. His oxygen levels stayed pretty high today so we hope he's over the worst of it. Pretty scary.

Well, I'm tired so I'm calling it a day soon.
Take care,
Catherine

Sue, I love your Thanksgiving decorations. So cute. Judy, just reading you’re at Valley of Fire brought back wonderful memories. I was there quite a few times and just loved it. So beautiful. Catherine I hope the new baby recovers quickly. I’m sure that was scary for all. Beth, so glad you’re on the road again. Looks like some big decisions may be on the horizon. Exciting! Barbie, I’m amazed at all you’ve done to prepare to sell your home.

We’re anticipating some much-needed rain in the next few days. It won’t be buckets, but we need it so badly anything will be welcomed. I had a phone conference today with the doctor who did my ablation procedure a week ago. All he said was that it “went well.” I wish doctors would make it easier for patients to really know how things are. Basically he said in 3 months I’ll wear a monitor for several weeks and I guess he’ll be able to make some kind of a determination as to whether it was “successful” or not. Apparently 70% are considered successful, 30% are not. Sure hope I’ll be in the 70% group.

Stay safe everyone and enjoy your extra hour of sleep tomorrow night.

the pellet stove guy came today even though it had started up we wanted to have a check up to see why it took so long to start a couple of weeks??? hard to remember so I turned it off this morning so it would be cool to work with... when I told him what it did and what I did he said it sounded like it needed a good cleaning... and that is what he did vacuumed that thing out cleaned the "baffles" said it was really dirty I doubt that it's been professionally cleaned since she got it even the glass looks great ... so paid the guy he went on his way and it started feeling chilly looked at temp was 67 the thermostat was set at 70 thought what in the world so when I finished my row I went and checked the pellets...aww low so added to them and texted friends to see if they would come and bring in another bag.. ended up bringing in two bags should be ok hopefully till nephew returns... but the stove still wasn't happening ..... finally went and turned it off waited a few then turned it back on started to see smoke and sparks and flames was so welcome...now that there is better flow and a clean glass see it better//
mom is complaining about her leg not sure why it hurts and not sure what to do... told her if it wasn't better on Monday we would need to go to the dr. at supper she has a pain pill with her I told her she couldn't take it yet so she takes one at about 9:15 shortly after 10 she comes in with one I reminded her that I told her if she gets one before she is able to take it it worries me that she is taking them too quickly so she gave it to me no doubt in my mind that she would have taken it ... as much as I don't want to admit it I think she isn't remembering as well as she was a few months ago!!! I think I will start putting the notes back on the bottle telling her not to take it until what ever time it should be in this case 3;15
how do I know that she is taking them??? she moves the bottle and doesn't move it back to where it was and I go and put it back so when she gets a pill I can see that she did so.... not telling her my method very scientific right???
so I didn't get much accomplished today so what else is new... one day I will report back that I did something and you all will be shocked ... I did talk with my #3 daughter she had vacation that she had to use so took today and next week off she decided that today was play day and next week was work week in that she will paint ect so that she can feel she is in her house and not squatting...
a movie I've not seen it's really quite funny .... girl thinks she is going to Jamaica gets on the plane finds out that it's Jamaica Vermont... not quite what she was expecting
we've had some snow today tonight it's suppose to put down lots and into tomorrow we will see... but the percentage was up to 99 in one of the hours
that is scary Catherine I'm glad that the baby didn't have to go to the hospital I guess it's pretty huge this year...
Sue loved the lawn ornaments so cute made me chuckle
I don't know why mom started putting the tree in the addition we only sit out there to eat so never get to see the tree much I'm going to advocate for the living room... I realize that some stuff will have to be moved where in the addition it just gets put in front of the sliding glass door... will have to see what works ... that is if I'm still here and I am willing to bet I will be....
my granddaughter canned today canned cranberry juice never would have thought of it... she also did tomatoes I am sure DD#3 watched the little ones...
this is the time of the year that tourists have thinned out so thought I'd check out the drugstore and see if there would be a possibility of getting a good parking place so I could bring mom to it... it was a place that was the gathering spot for years as a teen I'd go there we would go there after movies ect then it closed and other businesses took it over a few years ago it reopened but not been so thought aww there is fewer people perhaps now would be a good time to go so drove past it the other day and it's closed!!! dang lots of businesses close during this off season where tourist have thinned out and skier's haven't come ... although it would be too cold perhaps for a milkshake although that is what I would have gotten or a sundae
well you all have a good day
