Thursday Today

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Thursday Today

Postby SoCalGalcas » Thu Nov 03, 2022 10:24 am

First time I’ve gotten to begin a day on the Forum in ages! What a surprise. Judy, you do such a good job on picking out Christmas presents. And, nice and early too! Beth, glad to hear you are finally on your way. The last couple of days were rough for you. Barbie, you are doing great getting your plan underway.
We had 0.07 inches of rain from the big storm that was predicted!
We had such a nice day visiting with both my daughters here in the condo yesterday. Things Valerie misses in SD: the swim pool here. There is absolutely no place for her to swim where she lives in NH. Costco and Trader Joe’s. Our property taxes are lower here. Things she likes about living in NH: the beautiful area with lots of trees and green fields. It is very quiet. No close neighbors. She loves the taste of their well water. No added chemicals. She has a large propane tank. That will heat here home in the winter. She hasen’t experienced any snow yet!
She also has a septic tank. No sewer charges! With the well, no water fees also. The electrical
Fees are high too. Bottom line, she is happy living there.
Oh yes, she really likes my kitty.!!!
Phew, a long message from me. Lyn

Good morning Lyn, and all who follow. It's a chilly 41° this morning. Sun streaming through the window. Lyn, I'm so glad your daughter can visit and spend time appreciating San Diego again. She may have more to say, once she has experienced a blizard or two.
No big plans here today. Just trying not to aggravate my back, which is slowly getting better.
Beth travel safe, Judy and others too. Barbara, I hope you find your dream RV.
Have a good day.

Kitty? Did you say Kitty? Now we need pictures.

I posted on Facebook earlier but the drive out to Maryland was much faster and wilder than I had hoped. Her blood tests came back indicating that her heat cycle was much farther along than any of us had presumed. What was to have been a two day drive suddenly became a one day 500 mile drive. We made it but my body just about revolted completely. Now we sit and wait a few more weeks to see if the trip was successful. Jane's sister was bred about a week ahead of her so there may be a lot of puppy breath to share. After staying two nights in Maryland I backtracked to Lori and Ernie's driveway in southern PA for a night and a mini GTG. They both say hi and send their best. They have definitely have had their ups and downs health wise but are hanging on well and have supportive family in the area. From Lori's I made my way just a little ways east to Paulette's driveway and another mini GTG. It is easy to find driveways that fit RoadTreks. From Paulette's driveway I got permission to drive north to the Hudson Valley and land in the Ben's driveway. Visiting in the middle of a school week with three boy, school and two working parents is exciting to watch. As my son so gracefully mentioned when I asked if it was possible.....Mom, when you visit you are pretty self sufficient and don't need entertaining so come on and join the craziness. I admire the schedules and activity levels that they maintain....it is definitely a balancing skill. Lark and I did get to rake some leaves sufficiently to play "hide boys in the leaf pile". Lark will not be a search and rescue dog anytime soon it appears. Hidden moving creatures in piles of leaves....very cautious. Now back in Ohio. Did get notice from the scoring center regarding availability for work next spring. Thinking about it. My saving account would appreciate the influx of funds and I can do for a few weeks what I would not want to do for months. I feel stronger that I did last spring but not sure I want to accept a supervisory position which is what I have been offered in recent years. I think I am ready to just be a peon. I can work fewer hours and still come away with more funds that it I didn't work. Either way, I probably wouldn't accept a contract before March. If there are to be puppies I will need to stay available January and February and if there are no puppies there is Florida.....

Good morning. It is very cold here today. Remains cloudy but no wind or rain yet. I need to clean up a few things in the yard BUT not until it warms up. I am content to stay in. Will be doing some cooking today, my stuffed green peppers that I didnt do yesterday as my meat needed to thaw some more, so today it is.

Lyn must be fun times having your daughters there. Glad your daughter likes NH. It is beautiful........in the spring and summer LOL winter not so much. Velda good news that your back is getting better. Tina 2 sets of puppies (maybe I know) but a friend of mine had 2 sets of puppies last year, Tibbies and they were so darn cute. Will be excited to see yours and Cindy's.

I am off to the kitchen

Good Morning, It is another beautiful day here. Temperatures in the upper 70's into next week!
Lyn I'm glad you had a good visit with your daughters. It will be interesting to hear the NH daughter's report after the winter. There is a shortage of propane and it has doubled in price since last year. Also I hope the well pump doesn't freeze up and they know to have the water checked regularly. Also septic tanks need to be pumped out so that's another cost and something to be sure and remember to have done !! Has her friend lived there before so he knows what to expect?
Barbie I am amazed at the amount of 'stuff' you have! I think you will be happy though to move from the desert and get away from the heat and sand.
A truce has finally been declared in our house and Toby has been doing well to curb his inclination to attack Pippa. It certainly makes life easier not to keep them in separate rooms. I had to have semi annual blood work done today and for the first time I thought I might pass out. I didn't say anything but I was a bit wobbly. I wonder though if maybe it was my mask, I had on a KN95.

Tina, I think Lyn is referring to the plush kitty I gave her last spring, Millie.

It is very breezy today. Would like to open up the windows but I know the dust would just blow in. It is only supposed to say in the upper 60's today which is fine with me.

I have been putting stuff out in my driveway for free. A lot of people here walk the park early every morning so I can hear them rummaging thru stuff all morning. Will have to replenish the stock today again.

I plan to go to the Soc Sec office here in town today and find out what the deal is with my application. That lady who called me last week, never answers her phone and never calls me back. I also got an email from SS telling me to call her about an issue. So I will just go to the office here and see what the problem is.

I haven't decided what I will tackle today. Too windy to do outside things so will stay inside. I might start cleaning each room now. The only thing I have left to sort thru is lots of photos but that can be done later. I want to get this place ready to get listed soon. I can probably get the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen deep cleaned today.

Lyn, I am glad you are enjoying time with your daughter. She should have brought Benji back for you!

Beth, are you heading to Benson now? How long will you be there?

BJ, I am amazed at all the stuff I had, too! Lots of it was stuff I had stored at my dad's house that I took with me when we sold the house.

Have a good day! :D

Lyn, I'm happy for you with the time with both daughters. I loved my partial year in NH and when younger wouldn't have minded the snow at all Now I just enjoy visiting snow. As said, there is work to your own well and septic but that was easy for me when it's what we had And totally agree that Judy has picked out some wonderful gifts.

Yay, Toby! That's a big relief!

Barbie, I'm at a park on the California side of Parker/Lake Havasu right now. I went through one of their sales presentations today and this is the closest I've ever been to purchasing. I'm sitting here crunching numbers and going okay, maybe, no lol I give myself another half hour and will force myself to make a decision. I think I have to go back and ask a couple questions first. I'm amazed that I'm considering it. Then I'll be heading to Casa Grande for my audiologist, then Tucson a week, then Benson for a couple weeks, finally to NM then Texas for a few months.

Karen, you can send me some of your stuffed green peppers please.

Back to crunching numbers. I never considered these when spending so much time workamping, but wanting to travel and control expenses and stop workamping, this one is looking good .

COld here at Boulder Beach, and this is dry camping, which I have not done very often. So, in the middle of the night, my furnaces were making funny noises, like they were having problems working. I got up and looked at battery indicator and they were very low. Other times when I have dry camped, my batteries have lasted all night with barely going down, but these batteries are at least 5 years old. SO, opened compartment and took photo of label on batteries. Then, just called the local Camping World parts place and they have two new batteries and can put them in today!!! So, I will close things up and get there by 1:30 pm, which is just over an hour from now. YEA!!! More money spent, but batteries are important.

Ran generator this morning long enough to get place warm and recharge batteries, but I know they will not last, so glad to get new ones.

Got my DNA results. I had always thought I was 40% Scots, 40% English, and 20% German. Turns out I am 50% Scots, 19% German and Eastern Europe, 12% wales, 8% England, 5% Ireland, and 6% Scandinavian. The latter is probably Viking from Yorkshire as a lot of Vikings settled there. Have no idea where the Welsh comes from, except that I had some relatives from Bath and that town is on the edge of what was once considered Wales. Also knew I had a bit of Irish.

It's 87 and sunny today. I am enjoying not having to mow since the grass is barely growing. I think we have rain coming Friday night and Saturday. The guy that has calves here planted rye grass yesterday so I'm sure he would love some rain.

Last night I had a Shiner Bock beer at the restaurant and thought of Sharon Souter. That was her drink of choice. The last beer I had was probably with her. I didn't know Shiner Bock came in cans but I prefer drinking beer out of a bottle. That probable won't be much of a problem since I seldom ever drink beer. Most restaurants don't serve the wine I like, Moscato. I guess it's not fancy enough. It kind if ticks me off when they charge $8 for about a half cup of wine when the whole bottle only costs $8.

I broke down and started letting CC come back in the house after he got beat up a couple of weeks ago. He is a brat. He got kicked out in the first place for peeing in the dog's bed. If he can beat Sugar to her bed he gets in it and she won't make him move. I told her to lay on him.

Tina, I prefer to bring my own room when I visit friends and family too. lol

I think the gates going to the pond are open so I might go fishing this afternoon. I'm too lazy to go if I have to open gates.

Beth. . . Lake Havasu is a dam on the Colorado river. The Colorado is said to be in serious trouble. You might want to ask the sales people about any back-up plans the community has in place to provide water should outflows from Lake Meade and Lake Powell be curtailed, as is being discussed by the Department of the Interior.

While crunching your numbers, be sure to check on projected water availability on the lower Colorado. . .

Here is a link you might want to read over before putting your money down. . .

"Interior Department Announces Actions to Protect Colorado River System, Sets 2023 Operating Conditions for Lake Powell and Lake Mead"

https://www.doi.gov/pressreleases/interior-department-announces-actions-protect-colorado-river-system-sets-2023

Lake Havasu is downstream from both Lake Mead and Lake Powell.

Everyone here is quite worried about the Colorado River water levels. That said, I'm not sure what any place is doing to help. These problems have been coming for years.

Very good advice Annie. San Diego gets its water from the Colorado river. Politicians here completely ignore the facts about the river. Lyn

Beth, is it Colorado River Adventures you are thinking of buying into or?? Be sure to check online for 'used' memberships for sale.

We are cold! Freezing nights are here. They were predicting 3-6 feet of snow tomorrow, but now it's down to a trace.

Yes, it is and I did. They actually offered me a good deal and it was hard to turn down but since I'm not sure if I'm working next summer and I know where I'll be all winter, I finally decided the timing is wrong. That said, it could be right in a year or two.

Glad your snow is down to a trace.

Been kind of a waste of a day for me. Dealing with Soc Sec was fun! The guy at the office was nice but he couldn't get ahold of the lady who called me, either. He said he would keep trying tho. About an hour later, I got a call from her finally. She just wanted to know why I put down February as my starting month instead of January when my birthday is. I told her I thought there was a month delay in getting paid after my birthday. She seemed confused but then said "I think you are right!" . Then she said I would actually not get my first check until March. I didn't quite understand her reasoning for that. :? I guess I will have to wait until December when I get a letter from them with all the details.

Went to the Dollar Store looking for a cheap set of measuring cups but they didn't have any. They always have them but not this time. Then got my screws at Home Depot and lunch at Taco Bell. Then got home to try and get my phone finally switched to the other provider. That was kind of a frustrating fiasco! :o Had to take a break from that and went to WM for some retail therapy, before going home to try again. After one guy I was talking to fell asleep on me and another guy I couldn't understand due to his strong accent, I tried doing a chat and finally got the help I needed...I think :? . Will know tomorrow if my phone number gets transferred over.

So I got nothing done around here at all. It was actually chilly out today! It was sunny and got to about 65* but the wind made it feel cooler. I had shorts on which wasn't really enough but I found a sweater in my car and that helped. Not complaining about that tho. I don't mind cooler temps if I am dressed for it.

I have a guy coming out tomorrow morning to check my oven. When I turn it on, the pilot light comes on but I smell propane afterward and my propane alarm comes on. So I don't use it. I had one of the maintenance guys here come look at it awhile ago but it didn't happen while he was here. Go figure! Hope it can be resolved tomorrow.

There was a "welcome back" dance tonight but I decided not to go. I don't know very many of the snowbirds here and they are mostly couples anyways. Most of my friends I used to go to those things with, are no longer living here or just aren't interested in going to those things. Next Tuesday I start back with the Putters Golf league, so that will be fun.

Beth, in a year or two, you will know more what is happening with the Colorado River water situation and can make a more informed decision then.

Tomorrow is another day and hopefully more productive!
