Windy Saturday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Windy Saturday

Postby Othersharon » Sat Oct 15, 2022 11:28 am

Just hit noon and as I noted the wind in really blowing today. In and out sun but supposed to get up to 65 today. We’ll see! Not much happening today, thought I’d try to tackle some of the leaves but wind was working against me so will save that for another day! Painters are almost finished, just some touch ups and I noticed this morning they missed the window over the driveway porch so will remind them about that! I’ll be so glad to see this done! And you all are probably tired of hearing about it! Judy, good you got your ac fixed….and other things too! Always something it seems on our rigs. I need to find my staple gun and replace the plastic on one of the “windows” I put up every winter around my back porch. DH made them and they block out a lot of the wind and snow in the winter. So that’s about all my news for today! Hope you all have a great week end.

It is nice out today, low seventies but next week record setting lows for overnight! Supposed to get down to 27. :(

Sharon do you ever mulch your leaves instead of raking? That is what we do and it is supposed to be good for the lawn and benefit some species of butterflies and insects that winter over. At least that is what Bob Villa says here https://www.bobvila.com/articles/mulching-leaves/ Of course you'll have to wait till your painters leave or they might not appreciate your technique!

Barbie you are going to be really busy planning for your adventure of moving but all the suggestions you are receiving are really wonderful.

We are going to a birthday party for our friends 6 year old daughter this afternoon. She is a bright, happy 'old soul' who is loved by young and old. I think I have time for a short nap first!

Good morning (barely) I have had a burst of energy this morning so I got busy cleaning. Washed a couple of my windows as they were kind of ugly inside. Dusted my levelor wood blinds. Now getting ready to have lunch then will finish vacuuming and dusting. Then my day will be over for working. I might go up to the hospital either today or tomorrow and see my neighbor Jerry. He is there until Monday. His daughter is here til Monday also. My next door neighbor who fell and broke her hip (93 she is) most likely coming home. Her grandson is over there building a ramp so that is my assumption. At first I heard she was going to assisted living but now it appears she will be in her own home and her daughter will stay for a while.

Nothing much else going on here right now. I was going to go to the farmers market this morning but I also wanted to do some cleaning. Will throw in a couple loads of laundry this afternoon. Sharon glad you are almost finished with the painting project. It took a while as you had to dodge the weather too. Our weather is 85 today but will be changing to much lower next week.

Good afternoon gals!

Am just taking a break from going thru stuff in the porch. Everything is so full of dust out there and my eyes are sore and burning from it. I rinsed them with water and put some drops in and now have a cool pack on them to try and sooth them some more.

My neighbor got back home early this morning from the hospital. She is all bandaged up on her arms and has some bumps and bruises on her head, but luckily, nothing broken and no concussion. I told her to let me know if she needs anything to call me. Then I thought to give her one of my doorbell remotes so if she has any problem, she can push the button and I will come right over. I guess after she fell, she tried to throw a hammer at my house to get my attention but her arms were too banged up and sore. Luckily, the security patrol came by and she got their attention. Good thing, or she could have been out there all night!

Got my boxes cut up for the dumpster but kept some for putting things for the thrift store in. Now going thru bins of tools, hardware, and misc household stuff. Lots of it going into the give-away box and in the trash. How many phone charger cords does one person need?? Not 12! Found a lot of cords that I don't know what they go to but am hanging on to them until I go thru all the rest of my stuff in case I find one I need for something.

Gotta put my cool pack on my eyes... have a good day!

Update: Another dust storm just hit! There are thunder storms just south of here moving this way so I went over to my neighbors house to cover a kitchen table she has outside for free. I put a tarp over it to protect it from the rain. Well, the wind just blew it off so I went out to recover and fasten it down. Thunder booming around me. Now the wind is ferocious and I can hear the rain starting! :o

Now I have more dust in my eyes! . I am making headway with the bins of misc stuff. I found one that was stuff from the previous owner of just misc crap. That all went into the trash. I found one interesting thing tho that I have never seen before. I will try to post of photo of it and see if any of you know what it is.

The wind is getting worse! Like a hurricane out there! Stuff is blowing all over down the street! The tarp blew off again but it is raining hard now tho. I am not going out there again! Lots of thunder and lightning! Am surprised the power is still on!

OK, so the worst of the storm finally passed but not without doing major damage! :o At least to my little neighborhood!

I am SO sad that I lost my big willow tree out back!  Luckily, it fell across the green space and just missed the house behind me. My next door neighbor's tree lost 3 large limbs and two of them landed on the gazebo. I drove around to see what other damage was done in the park. Mostly just debris from the palm trees and peoples stuff blown around. One guy lost his metal awning on his house.

It is still raining off and on and still lots of lightning and thunder here. I didn't even hear the tree go down but it was so windy and the rain was coming down so hard and then the thunder booming, I couldn't hear much else. I just looked out the living room windows and said "where the hell did my tree go?" :o

My tree...

Barbie, sorry you lost your tree. I don't think willow trees are strong. My neighbors just cut one down because limbs kept falling out of it. That was some storm. I think your neighbor need a medical alert thing. She is lucky she didn't break something. I'm probably one to talk since I have to go up and down 7 steps all the time and my cats are trying to trip me.

It was breezy here today. I went and mowed in Maurice. It had been almost a month since I mowed there but the grass wasn't bad. Since we have had little rain the grass isn't growing. The guy that bails hay there finally cut the grass. I couldn't tell if he had bailed hay but thank goodness he finally cut it. I was afraid I was going to have to find someone to bush hog. It was so dry and windy that I had to take a shower and wash my hair when I got home. I sprayed 2 gallons of weed killer with a pump sprayer so I'm trying to decide whether to take Aleve or Tylenol for my shoulder.

I had big plans to ride my bike today because it was supposed to be 71 degrees out and sunny. I am here at South Beach SP, which is south of Newport, Oregon, directly on the ocean, or at least about 700' from the ocean. There are a lot of paved bike or walking paths here, one of which goes to the South Jetty and town. However, it has been really, really cold and windy today with a high of 56 degrees!! That is a lot colder than 71 degrees, so I have been indoors all day. Plus, sun disappeared very early today and there is nothing but fog out there, so no sun to warm up RV. Temp tonight is going down to 48 degrees with still a lot of wind, so I got out my second little electric heater and plugged it in. One heater is near me and pointed at my feet and the other one is pointed back at the bedroom.

I am low on propane, so the two heaters is better than running my furnace and running out of propane. I will go out tomorrow and head to the ACE hardware, which I called and can refill my motorhome tank. I cannot believe how many weekenders are sitting outside with winter jackets around camp fires. I did see one group that is not only wearing warm jackets but also bundled up with blankets. All I could handle today outside was taking my trash out!!

There is a fish market on the way to town, and i saw a sign for crab sandwiches, so I am going to try to stop there tomorrow, assuming I can find a place to park.

got up and fixed breakfast told my mom that I was going to go to my dd's and help them today so left her for the day or a good portion of it...went over to my dd's and was assigned the refrigerator was ok doing it until I couldn't get one of the shelf's out to clean it... it took my dd's and you tube to get it out...but it looks a lot better...
stopped at the grocery store in hopes that they would have the grapefruit that we like they didn't one of the produce guys told me they order it and it doesn't come... he has lots of people asking for it as well...
heard that Kroger is buying out Albertson's it makes me wonder how that will affect us here... we have Smith's which is a Kroger, Albertson's, whole foods, and Target but I've never been impressed with Target's grocery area in any store... it's the opinion of several that they could have filled in that area with more of what you can't get in this area... but they didn't do that
I am sure that you will be glad to get your house finished Sharon
Barbie big plans lots of decisions... let me suggest something to think about... I think you mentioned how long it would be before you could be on medicare....and I don't remember but if it's only a couple three years would you be better waiting and going on the road when you are old enough to get Medicare... just something to think about... You mentioned the mail forwarding thing does that give you a legal address?
the ones in South Dakota and Texas do... which is something that in your researching you need to know...
I sure goofed going over to my dd's house I'd driven a few miles when I remembered I hadn't turned my take on so pulled over and turned it on to 2 and went of my way up and over this pass got to my dd's house went to turn the tank off (I'd brought my concentrator so was just going to leave the portable tank in the car) and discovered that it was totally off. there is two places you turn on... I thought I'd left one of them on yesterday when I got home from the store... I will need to be more careful in the future..
you all have a good day

Martha, I have talked to my neighbor about getting a Life Alert and she sounds fairly interested but hasn't gotten one. Her daughter was there this morning and we (me and my other neighbor) brought it up again. Her daughter didn't think the alert systems really work. I told her that the one my dad had (Life Station) worked really well and to consider it. I think this episode really scared my neighbor tho, so maybe she will decide to get one now. She is very lucky nothing was broken. Her arms and had are really sliced up good tho! She must have pretty thin skin.

We had willow trees in our yard by the lake when I was growing up. One large one was invaded by black ants for years and finally split and fell in three sections during a storm. They are very fragile but so beautiful! This one gave a lot of shade on the west side of my house. It will be missed! :(

We got about half an inch of rain here which is a lot for this area, and we got the most rain of the whole valley here. I did see on the news that there were quite a few trees down all over tho. The storm came up from the south but now there are light showers coming down from the north. Strange weather!

I finally got thru most of the bins tonight and got them cleaned out and sorted. I put the things I want to keep in one box and now I need to go thru that and sort it into different categories. Would have liked to get more done today but was distracted by the storm for awhile.

I work for the next 3 days, 6 hrs tomorrow, and 9 hours each on Monday and Tuesday. Then have Wednesday thru Friday off.

My eyes still hurt and have a headache so will go to bed soon with some pain reliever.
