Monday October 10

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Morning All, typical fall weather on the island, high 60’s for the week. No exciting news just opening morning coffee. I’m still sorting through closets. I convinced #2 daughter she should too so she will pick up my contribution for the thrift store. Sadly the field outside my window is being developed. Building retail stores and apartments. More run off to destroy the body of water I see in the distance and of course more traffic. Not my idea of progress. I’m anxiously waiting to see the boulder/rock built of chicken wire and cement but a 100 lb 86 yr old. Lol Old timers need a reason to get out of bed in the morning. Karen I’m trying to remember to take the pork roast out of the freezer. Be safe

Mornin' Shirl & all that follow~~~

Sad to hear they are developing and you'll lose your view Shirl. What irks me is most of the new construction I've seen over the years remains empty for a long period of time. Alot of people shop online now and I think the builders are just looking for a tax write off.

Sandi your pictures of Italy are beautiful! And I hope you and your daughter are doing some serious bonding so that your future is brighter.

Made it to Texas yesterday. In Mount Pleasant for a few days, then will head to Livingston to get my yearly stuff done. Since I've received two summons for jury duty, I'll call in and see if they need me. Sure hope that's a no.

I was booked to stay at Lake Livingston SP but moved my reservation to the former KOA. At least I'll still be on the lake, but not as nice of views. The SP is having major water problems and the person that I talked to said if another well goes down, the state said they will have to evacuate the CG. Will take at least 3 years and a few million to get the water problem fixed. Even tho the Escapees park is there, I'm not a fan of it, hence the former KOA. I will get my mail a few times too.

This camper is continually aggravating. The slide is still going in and out crooked, but it straightens itself out. I stopped at a dealer in Conway, AR, and they figured out that the factory reconnected the slide controller backwards which caused the in button to make the slide go out and visa versa.

Now it looks like I've blown another valve. Hooked up to city water yesterday and water immediately started coming through the basement.. So filled the fresh tank and the pump won't shut off. I counted the problems I've had, and the list is up to 14 items on a 6 months old camper. I am seriously thinking of dumping this camper and may look around here just to see what's other brand look like. But they all have problems. At least Grand Design backs their product with the traveling repair teams, etc.

That's it from me. Thank goodness my job in IT taught me how to deal with problems. I'm not stressed, just aggravated at this point.

Hope you day goes better than the ones I've had.
Cheryl

Good morning. Foggy and chilly at 50 degrees. I do like it tho, silly me. If it would stay like this all year that would make me happy LOL Will warm up to 80 this afternoon. Slept in until 7:15 today but was awake in the middle of the night for 2 hours, so guess I will sleep good tonight. Thanks Irmi, I am feeling so much better almost like my old self. Now just working on the motivation factor. I am good in the morning but come lunch I am done.
I made tacos last night for dinner and they were pretty tasty.
I have my pulmonary function test tomorrow and I think now I will do pretty good . A few weeks ago I would have flunked before I even got started so was a good thing they changed it to this month, everything worked out well. Then taking Emma to a new groomer on Wednesday. This one is right down the road from me a couple miles away. The other was in another town and 12 miles away so this should be good. They do my neighbors Pomeranian and they are happy with them so I am giving it a try.
Cheryl it sounds like you are just the not so proud owner of a lemon. It happens sometimes despite the good reputations of certain makers. I hope you find something that will work for you. Sheila is busy crocheting and now getting ready for winter like the rest of us.
I am making stir fry with chicken tonight for dinner. I need to pick up some veggies from the store this afternoon to make it and also some water chestnuts and bean sprouts. My problem is it usually multiplies and ends up being so darn much. I dont mind eating it twice but that is usually my limit. AND it doesnt freeze worth a darn I am sure. So going to try really hard to just make a little bit.

Good late afternoon, It has been a lovely fall day weather wise but the fall colors are for the most part drab. We haven't had a good rain since I think July. Usually our Red Bud leaves are a really bright read but this year are brown.
Shirl I'm sorry to hear about the development being built near you. So many stores are closed I don't get why they would build more.
Cheryl I wonder with all the things that have been wrong with your trailer if Grand Design could be held responsible or give you a huge discount on a different one.
Karen I keep thinking I should have Pippa groomed but she is so shy I think it would be too much for her. I'll keep brushing and hoping her coat gets easier to deal with soon. I can do it but would rather someone else get the shape, especially around her head and face done. Our Emma goes to be groomed tomorrow but her trainer likes a particular groomer so she takes her and stays with her. I have a hard time keeping up when she will be home and when she is having a 'sleepover :) I hope you like the new groomer your Emma is going to. It is really hard to find a good one, almost as hard as getting a vet appointment. So good to hear you and your appetite continues to improve.
It's time for the news although I don't know why I watch it is so depressing! My friends little 11 year old grandson watches the news and wants his Mom to order them all Hazmat suits and masks. So sad.

Spent a wonderful 3 day visit with Nan just outside of Charleston, SC, I also got to meet many of the DeBose family members that made it in for this year’s family reunion. Other accomplishments during our visit was we found some yummy Lobster Rolls for lunch on Saturday and while I found some catfish on the menu Friday evening, Nan was able to find the necessary Shrimp and Grits to check of her “to do list” for the weekend. Lark and I headed back to Ohio this morning and made it to just north of Knoxville. We expect to make it back to Ohio driveway by tomorrow afternoon.

I think I am losing it! I thought I was going into a McDonald's, but instead I went into a Carl's Jr. and asked for a sausage McMuffin with egg. Ended up with a chicken sandwich, and did not realize until I was outside that I had gone into the wrong place. They must have thought I was senile! But I did learn that the chicken in Carl's chicken sandwich is about half the size of the one in the McDonald's version, plus they charge twice as much for soft drinks!! Anyway, my excuse is that I had only about an hour of sleep last night and got up at 6 am to drive out in the dark and try to get cell service so I could make a campground reservation. Most importantly, the driveway to the Carl's was right next to the driveway to the McDonald's, and I was focusing on making a tight turn without hitting the curb.

Other news is that as I was driving today, I got a text message asking if I had spent $53 on Doordash for Chick-Fil-A. Not only have I never used DoorDash, but I have never even gone into a Chick-Fil-A! Nor, could I possibly eat that much chicken. When I got set up in my campsite this afternoon, I went online and discovered that someone had ordered a bunch of stuff from Walgreens and also had it delivered at DoorDash, plus spent a couple of nights at a Comfort Inn in Georgia!! So, they closed my credit card with Chase and will send me a new one. Or at least send it to my son in Ohio. I have a second card with a different bank, so will be fine until I go to Ohio for Thanksgiving. The fraud people at Chase said to check my account over the next few days to see if more charges I did not make show up.

YUM lobster rolls sound super good. Glad you got to hook up with NAN. Shrimp sounds good but a huge NO on the grits. My friend fromn Louisiana tried to get me to eat them Tried them with honey, sugar, bacon, cheese...nope no go. When I was working in Boston I found a place that had super good lobster rolls so enjoyed those a couple of times. Then 9-11 hit and that pretty much ended that. My contract (and 2 others) was up about a week later. We couldnt fly home because Logan was a crime scene with 6000 cars to be towed away and examined. One of the docs let us go stay in her cabin on Nantucket for about a week. (who knew it was an island LOL). Finally opened the airport and off we went. I was on a flight to San Francisco and there was only a few people on the plane, super weird.
Judy those thieves are everywhere. I do check my account on pretty much a daily basis So far no issues for a few years.
BJ Emma has been groomed since she was 10 weeks old. She doesnt care what you do to her LOL she got her nails clipped then dremeled doesnt bother her a bit. I bet Pippa would get used to it quickly. Sun is out so think I will get Emma and walk down and get the mail.

Cheryl, sorry you are still having problems. You probably would like to shake some RV techs. It's sad if you can't get something done right at the factory. I can't think of a trailer that has a better reputation than Grand Design other than the ones like Casita. A casita would be hard to full time in. The trailer I have at the lake is a Holiday Rambler and it's still in pretty good shape for being 30 years old. Of course it hasn't been rattling
down the highway. It was hauled to the lake and has never moved. I think Holiday Rambler only makes motorhomes now. I'm hoping they can find the electrical problem my motorhome is having before it decides to burn down. I hate to hear that the state park on Lake Livingston is having problems. That's a nice campground. I don't know what age you can get out of jury duty in Texas but I got taken off the list. I had called to get out of jury duty one time because I was going somewhere so the lady just took me off because of my age. I wouldn't mind serving but it would have to be at my convenience.

I have only had shrimp and grits once and t was good but I like grits. There are usually other things on a menu that I would rather have. I saw a restaurant advertising Lobster Rolls recently and now I can't remember where. My memory is not good. I went off this morning without my phone. Then I start worrying about what I would do if my car breaks down. Never mind that I managed 45 years without a cell phone.

I washed my car this morning and went and got it serviced. I didn't do a very good job on the windshield. It dried with spots on it and it was all I could do to see on the way home with the sun shinning in my eyes. Hope I can remember to clean the windshield before I head out again.

Rascal has wormed his way into being a house cat. I have been letting him stay in the house at night for a while but he usually wants out in the morning. He hasn't wanted out for 3 days.

sounds like Rascal knows a good thing...
today is my mom's 96th birthday...she has gotten a few phone calls not as many as she could but I think that so many of them think that she can't hear so why call but she seems to be able to communicate with those who have called... when I woke up I thought why not go out to lunch so when I finally finished ignoring the snooze alarm I suggested it to mom she thought that would be good and I'd text a friend to see if she wanted to join us she did so she picked us up and we went to China Town...there special was cashew chicken with the lunch menu you get soup and an egg roll you don't at night and it's cheaper at lunch time... so that is when I like to go and I got some pot stickers... so mom ate pot stickers and her soup... had planned on heating up her meal for supper but went with bagels and fruit... my niece was bringing over cake and ice cream later so thought that would be the thing to do... beside I did eat my meal and I was still to full for a big meal we were waiting for the bill and the waiter said that our bill had been paid wow first time that has happened we were eating our soup when a man from the church came in and spoke to us our friend mentioned it was mom's 96th birthday and he was the one that paid for our meal... so sweet of him...
came home and read scripture's didn't do a heck of a lot other than that other than go through a thing I keep yarn in hoping I'd find some straight pins but no such luck...
started the dish washer late so still need to put dishes away and put supper dishes in it
you all have a great day

Good evening gals!

Longggggggg day at work! Wasn't real busy but I made pretty good tips. Am very tired tonight so will go to bed soon.

Karen, when you make tacos, what do you do with the leftovers? I have thought about making tacos but then I don't want tacos for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the next 3 days. I usually only eat two tacos for one meal.

Cheryl, I have read that the quality of RVs and trailers since 2019 have been really bad because of Covid and the huge demand for them by the dealers who had tons of new buyers (what I call Covid Campers) during that time. The manufacturers were putting out crappy rigs due to the very high demand and new poorly trained employees building them. There has been an excessive amount of problems with rigs made in the past couple years. You might want to cut your losses and look for something built before 2019. Prices on used rigs are finally coming down now.

I still didn't finish the living room yet, mostly the gourd stuff. Will start on that again tomorrow. I need to go thru and downsize that stuff too. I don't need 50 paintbrushes! I got a load of stuff to the storage unit yesterday.

I decided to try the new sling I got for Romeow for trimming his claws. I put a tension bar in my bedroom doorway about 3 feet up and carefully put him in the sling and hooked him up on the bar before he knew what I was doing! He was just hanging there wondering what just happened! I started trimming his front claws and he started to protest loudly! Unfortunately, he was able to reach around and bite my hand altho he never bites hard enough to draw blood but he was making his point pretty clear! I switched to the back feet and was able to get those done. I carefully and quickly worked on his front paws again and put up with a few more bites, but got them done. Not sure I will ever get him back in that sling again tho!

This is what it looks like...
Image

He has now decided to try and get at Karma the fish. He sits next to the tank and watches and bats at him, but then he decided to get on top of the tank and try to get at him that way. I was shooing him off there with no luck so I started using a water bottle to encourage him to get down. Then I discovered that he had chewed halfway thru the cord for the light in the tank. Luckily, the light wasn't turned on then. Now I have to try to patch up the cord with tape and find a way to keep him from getting at it again. Don't want him getting zapped! :o

Nothing on TV tonight so I think I will watch a couple YouTube videos and then go to bed.
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Good morning. I am up and at em as I have a Pulmonary Function test this morning so need to get my act together soon. On my second cup of coffee so after that I will get it together.
Barbie I only make enough for 2 tacos. When I buy my hamburger I divide it up into portions. One pound goes a long way for tacos, hamburger, taco salad. I love your sling idea, hope it will work again for you LOL
Our air quality is not good. There is a pretty big fire continuing east of Eugene and the smoke just sits in our valley here. Hasn't been too smoky prior but the wind changed and so now we have smoke for the last few days.

Ann I love all your pictures of the wildlife. You have a great place to walk, I would love that. Looking forward to your pictures of Mexico for sure. Sheila glad your Mom had a good 96th birthday. Going out to eat is always a good way to celebrate. We dipped down into the 40's this morning for the first time in a long time. 49 at 6am and we will only be 76 so heading a bit downward today but back into the low 80's for the next 4 days then 70's again so there is hope for fall weather soon. ha ha
