Terrific Tuesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Terrific Tuesday

Postby asirimarco » Tue Oct 04, 2022 10:39 am

Good morning to All - been reading but not commenting. All is well here in Las Vegas. Temps during day still in mid 90's, but that is fine as it is now cooling down at night into low 70's high 60's which makes it possible again to get out and walk in the morning. A friend and I get out about every other day and walk in the Wetlands behind where we live. So pretty there. With all the rain we had during the summer it is very green and things are blooming out there. Lots of water in the ponds and creeks.
We are starting to get ready for our winter trip south. Hope to leave here the !5th and slowly make our way south. The hurricane yesterday didn't do any damage in Mazatlan, just a lot of street flooding - thank goodness. They have had rain almost every day this summer so it should be really green and blooming there this year.
We are looking forward to being there this winter, as it will probably be our last trip there. Unfortunately we've read that the highway for the last 250 miles to Mazatlan is in worse shape this year than last. Hard to believe it could be worse but all the rain has eaten up the asphalt even more.
Both of us have "cabin fever" after this summer of mostly staying home. Hot weather and gas prices both discourage travel.
I've been busy sewing and doing jigsaw puzzles. Made a wall hanging from a picture I took in the little town of El Quelite. Fun to do and turned out nice.

Now I'll start gathering things up to put in RV for winter. Trying to decide if we should get new covid vac. After my reaction to the old people flu shot, not sure if I want it or not.
Reading about the fall colors, I miss that from Indiana.
Every one take care

Carol, that is beautiful! You are so talented! What materials did you use?
Glad to hear that Mazatlan didn't get much damage from the hurricane.

Went to bed late last night but still woke up before 8am  . There may be a nap on the schedule later today.

Need to make a list of things to do and then get started on it. First thing is to clear out the clothes and books for donation.

Enjoy your day!

Carol that is beautiful. I cannot believe how many talented people we have amongst us. I dont happen to be one of them LOL but I sure can admire everyones work. Sandi should be heading out today, lucky her. I am also starting to get a little cabin fever but still need to build myself up before I venture too far. Going to the store today, need to get gas (need a heart pill before I go I am sure) gas is $5.19 enough to give one a heart attack. it sure did shoot up this last week. Was $4.55 holy moly. Good thing I dont drive too far or often.
Making my vegetable soup today. Have some chicken thawing to throw a bit in the soup also. The problem I have is just making a little......I usually end up with a large pot full. I want to make enough for 2 servings we will see how I do.

Hi, All, I am having trouble with food spoilage while doing my Medaterranian cooking. I did make a turmeric chicken lemon soup yesterday. It is so good I won’t have trouble finishing it. Cooking for one is a problem with the things you have to throw away.
That picture is quite colorful Carol. I really like it.
There is a group of businessmen here in town who have decided to do something about the homeless situation. They got the help of a big name basketball retired player. That is the only reason the newspaper and TV stations have reported on what he and the foundation are doing. However, I am supporting them at the moment. I have written to them with my concerns. We will see what happens in the fourth coming days. I think a little more “tough love” is needed here.

The wall hanging is like a mini quilt all made from pieces of material. here is a picture with the quilt wall hanging and the photograph (now my computer monitor background) I used to make it. the photo on the monitor doesn't show the true colors and there is some light distortion. I've always loved the colors of those buildings. So took the picture with making the quilted hanging in mind. I left out the man and the horses head, but added a couple of chickens

Carol, I think your wall hanging is SO MUCH prettier than the photo!!! Great job! (I thought the pebbles were real!)

Cooking for one is a problem with the things you have to throw away.

Lynn, I totally agree with this! I can only handle so many leftovers of the same thing before I have to toss the rest of it. I waste a lot of food. :(

Well, it is only 2:30 and I have accomplished a lot already! I took my clothes to the thrift store, I dropped off a bag of food to the food shelf, and got my car washed. Then went back home, loaded up the car with the boxes of books and headed back to the library and dropped those off. Came home and called Dave. He came right over and put the microwave in the back of my Jeep and I took that to the recycling place and got rid of that. Stopped at Arbie's on the way home and bought a chicken sandwich for lunch. Whew!!

Just letting my lunch settle now and then need to start laundry. Might work on the gourd while waiting for that to get done. A good start for Day 1. :D

And gas prices... :o :o :o Ours here are now between $6 and $7 per gallon!!

Carol, what a lovely wall hanging! Cooking for one just means I eat it for a week or some goes in the freezer. :) Karen, glad you are doing better! Lyn, homeless camps are a real issue in so many places.

I caught up finances and started on the laundry yesterday. I finished organizing photos today and was about to walk to grocery store when I looked outside. My 'mountain' was completely smoked in! Nice temps and still smoke! At least no hurricanes!

Taxi brought me home from train Sunday evening about 9. Walked into the building and found dirty doormats, bicycle and wagon in the hall, etc. Went to unlock my door and it wasn't my doormat but a filthy one. Finally realized I had entered wrong part of the building! Couldn't believe how bad it was.

Carol, I was going to email you privately about the nature preserve you have been walking in, but I decided maybe some of the others here might be interested in getting more information about it if they are ever in the area.

I will be in LV at Boulder Beach about November 2 for about three nights, and would really like to explore this Eden you have found. Could you please post a map and point out some of the best walking paths through it? What is it called, and are some loops better than others? Also, is there a parking lot where I could park my motorhome while I walk around? It sounds like an interesting place, so I would like to visit.

After Boulder Beach, I am headed out to Valley of Fire for a couple of weeks and then to Willow Beach, across the Colorado River for 10 days.

Carol, your wall hanging is so beautiful! You are very talented!
I filled up my PT Cruiser today at Costco. Tank was sitting just above 1/4 mark. Took just over 11 gallons at $5.75 a gallon for $61.00. Our gas has gone up over $1 a gallon in just over a week. Their excuse is maintenance on equipment plus supply- governor got new drilling banned so they have to ship it in and there never is enough for them to lower price.
Had another warm 89° day. Day started with fall maintenance check on Heater, fortunately all tests ok.
Have a good Wednesday.

Judy it is called Clark County Wetlands Park. address is 7050 E Wetlands Park Lane. It is reached from Tropicana Ave just where Trop turns into Broadbent. Just east of Boulder Highway. There is a Nature Center there with a big parking lot. The area is actually pretty small where we walk. The trails are concrete and well graded gravel. We have no particular favorite, just go out there and wander around.
Image
You can see both Tropicana Ave and Boulder Hwy on the map. We just walk in the red square. We live right where it says Wetlands Loop If it doesn't make sense just ask more
Image
the red lines are paved, dash lines gravel. We walk in upper left corner of park. Black line upper right is paved bicycle path that goes to Lake Las Vegas, don't go on it!!!

Karen, that website, One Dish Kitchen, looks fantastic. Thank you very much.
I am on a restricted Na diet too. I haven’t used a salt shaker for years, so keeping my salt down is fairly easy.
When I go to the grocery store, I am on my scooter. I am limited to what will fit in the basket.
However, my daughter took me to the store in her car the other day, and I went hog crazy.
Bad mistake!

Lyn, it is my favorite site. I make lots of things on there and most everything I have really liked, and sometimes I tweak the recipe to my liking.
