Road Trip: Part 3

Postby WickedLady » Thu Jul 02, 2009 4:39 pm

From the Painted Hills I headed south on Hiway 26 to Prineville then to Redmond and Hiway 97 south thru Bend and spent the night just north of La Pine at the La Pine State Park for $17 electric and water. One of the features there is "Big Tree"

The next morning I looked into Newberry Nat. Volcanic Monument which was just a short ways from the CG road. Had missed the road into the main lava lands just south of Bend but didn't want to turn back so went in here for a short ways and took this picture of Paulina Falls and the volcanic basalt rocks it cascades over.

Then on south to Crater Lake. Still lots of snow around and the one road that would have let me get a picture of the entire lake was not plowed. But it was a warm, sunny day.

And Wizard Island stood out in that beautiful blue lake.

The Clark's Nutcrackers were there begging for food from everyone and stealing tidbits from the chipmonks (which happened much to fast for me to get a picture).

From there I went on to Roseburg and the coast.

BEAUTIFUL scenery, Wicked! What kind of a camera do you have? I know that most of the photography is the taker, but you must also have a great camera. Each one looks like a postcard pic. Are you having any problems finding places to stay, or do you have reservations all along your way? I need to know hese things so I can be ready for whatever in the near future!

Happy travels!

Okay, maybe I missed something - well, I'm sure I missed something, but where are you? What state? The pictures are gorgeous!

Amazing crater,.... Crater Lake. sort of spooky, too, knowing it was a volcano at one time. Nice trip,.... have enjoyed your pics and the narrative with them. I really appreciate everyone sharing their travels. Thanks, Wicked!

I have Canon film cameras. I may get a digital one day for the ability to see and then post the pictures without having to wait on processing but film is still superior for enlargements unless you can afford thousands for a camera.
I didn't have any reservations for camping and had no problems as there were lot of sites available at all the parks. Might be a different story during peak season.

FYI for anyone visiting east of the Cascades for the first time: both Washington and Oregon for example have rattlesnakes. Be aware.

Just love that area. We may or may not make it again this time around. Arrived at Trinidad, CA after traveling US299 across the state. It was a beautiful drive, but very winding with up and down elevations. Keep up with the pictures and enjoying the journey with you. carold
