Sunday September 11

Afternoon All. Wonder why Sundays seem to be more boring than other days. Spent the morning trying to update my credit card where needed and understanding people with accents. They just talk faster than I can listen. Had a lovely dinner with porch friend on her sun porch breathing fresh air. The cannoli was wonderful. Beach traffic dropped off so I was able to reach her house without difficulty. #2 daughter yard saling found a plant stand for $2 that I requested for a Boston Fern. She is giving it a couple coats of paint. I don love a bargain. Lol be safe

Good afternoon friends! It's overcast and also smoky here with pretty bad AQI. Had to go out to advise handyman on a issue and wore my kn95 and was dizzy when I came back inside so measured oxygen with mask still on and it was a very acceptable 97%, so not sure why my body didn't like outdoors with mask! Overnight, basement pump that brings water from basement half bath up to main line, and which we thought had failed because it wouldn't come on, not only came on (with nothing to pump because water to bathroom is shut off), but pump was running continuously and woke son whose room is above it! So then I had to try to find shut off (32 years and never needed to shut pump off). Unplugged it and now it's up to handyman to figure out what isn't working. I suspect pump controller board or sensor. Just what I needed!
Fire now past 40,000 acres but they gained 10% containment overnight- which means about 10% of the entire perimeter has a solid and holding line (which can quickly fail if they get wind). Couple thousand people evacuated. PCSO deputies and Animal rescue are trying to get in and retrieve animals stuck behind lines in hen houses, barns, corrals and houses. Our shelters are overloaded along with rescue groups, but everyone is pulling together, donations coming in specific to animal needs. Certainly if I didn't have elderly cats I'd be setting up my basement to take in cats.
Going to be a busy week with handyman, a iron worker to look at rail, sons Dr and my birthday. Yikes.
Have a good week everyone.

It's pretty boring here today. I cooked a piece of steak in the air fryer for lunch. There are some of the individual cups of Kraft Mac and Cheese in the pantry so I cooked one. I don't know what possessed me to buy that, they are not good.

I'm glad I got more of the yard mowed yesterday because a storm came through last night. It rained an inch and a fourth in about an hour. The ponds are full all the way to the top of the overflow pipe. If it wasn't so hot I would go fishing.

I am still fighting with the ants. I had to put Sugar's bowl and the cat food bowl in pans of water to keep the ants out. They even found Frosty's bowl on top of the washing machine. I keep a Terro bait thing in the kitchen window. Ever few days a bunch will show up and fill up. Then I won't see any for a few days.

I noticed that my pot of Mums have blooms this morning. I think I will clean out the Catnip tub and plant some fall flowers in it.

Hope you are continuing to improve Sheila.....waivering oxygen levels are scary.
After reading the stories of frustration over quality primary medical providers.....
I thought I would share one of my medical decisions that I made this summer in my pursuit of figuring out what of my issues are just normal wear and tear of the aging process and what might I be able to improve with some changes in some of my behaviors, etc. I contacted a physician that I had been seeing in the early 2000's who I had really liked. She, unfortunately, left that practice and joined a small group of two other physicians that were planning on offering for a limited patient practice for an additional fee. I think the concept has been referred to an a Concierge Medical Practice. Well back 15-20 years ago I was still helping support children's educations and the general cost of the family living. These days my expenses are much less and also more under my control. I decided I have invested past discretionary monies to traveling and to dog shows and maybe I should invest in my own health. It took almost 2 months for an opening to come up but I met with my doctor this past week. She remembered much about my past medical history and the fact that I was experiencing chronic rebound headaches even then. The first meeting lasted over an hour and a half. She went over what I could tell her was going on, asked perceptive questions and really listened and shared information back and forth. I wasn't able to get out of the office without getting caught up on my overdue Tetanus shot and having set a long overdue DEX bone density scan. Investing in that practice is only one of the medical decisions that I have made this summer but I feel it will be integral to helping me pull together and evaluate the information that I find coming in from other professionals. It was/is wonderful to treated as an intelligent participating partner and not just some old gray haired 72 year old lady who may or may not know what she knows.....to be dealt with in a 15 minutes superficial evaluation after which some note about "non compliant" or equally dismissive comment goes in some secret file..... So the dogs may not be going to as many dog shows but as I am on the down side of "the hill" I refuse to slide down with reckless abandonment if I can slow the trip down and enjoy more of the journey this other side of 70..... I just remember the surgeon coming to me after the severe Pancreatitis attack and after he had removed the Gallbladder. His comment was, "Lady, you must have been sick for some time." I would rather avoid missing any more warning signs that my body might be using to tell me something by accepting improper diagnosis (that just don't ring true)....and especially those that might otherwise get lumped with the throw away comment of "you know women of your age" without being carefully evaluated and considered. I apologise ahead of time if I over shared but personally I felt I needed my own medical professional with the time to be a partner advocate to my staying as healthy as nature and nurture issues can support. I have excellent insurance but it does me no good if I only use it after the health crises happens.

Tina, I believe in quality of life not quantity. Your decision for medical care sounds like the same philosophy. Having confidence in your physician is major part of good health.

Well, my day has been anything but boring!

I took my neighbor lady's car to work this morning. We hit the ground running at 10am with haircuts and didn't stop until 3pm, when I was finally able to take my break! Whew! I went to pick up the keys for my car down the street. They gave me a full refund. I then went back to work and had 5 minutes left to eat my lunch. We close at 4 on Sundays and of course more people came in. I finished my last haircut at 4:10. My back is really sore!

When I went to get my car keys, I notices 3 different storms around the valley, one of which was in the direction of my house. When I got home, there were palm fronds laying all over and lots of puddles, so that storm blew thru here just before I got home. My neighbor said it really poured!

Was still really hot at work today and I was sweating most of the day! I am bringing my fan to work tomorrow even tho we are not allowed to have them. Too bad! My clients were also sweaty and that makes it hard to use the clippers on them.

My neighbor lady will drive me to the repair shop tomorrow morning before work to get my car. I only have 2 days off this week (Tuesday and Friday) so can't take it anywhere until I have a couple/three days off in a row.

My feet hurt too so I will take it easy tonight after taking a shower. Probably should get out my heating pad for my back too.

Hopefully tomorrow will be a little more boring for me. It will be a long 9 hour day!

Tina, I understand wanting to have a good dr who takes the time to really listen and help. I had one like that back in MN.

Have a good evening!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Tina, thank you so much for sharing your decision to find a doctor who will actually listen and give advise you feel comfortable with. I'm pretty sure my chart also has the 'Non Compliant" note in bold! I had a similar experience finding help for Trigeminal Neuralgia. After finally seeing a neurosurgeon in STL who could only offer surgical options that 'might' work I found a constitutional homeopath in Brazil who is very caring and has helped immensely. She is also a GYN. I meet with her over WhatsApp and can message her anytime. I was able to get in contact with her because I have known her sister who lives in the states for over 30 years. I also have gone locally for acupuncture for years and feel she has really helped /prevented many health issues. She was also a medical doctor for many years but now only does acupuncture. I also go regularly for massage to a person who also is trained in Reiki. I feel the combination has kept me in overall better health. I feel grateful to live where good alternative options are available. I happy you found someone you feel positive about Tina.
