Stormy Friday?

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Stormy Friday?

Postby BarbaraRose » Fri Sep 09, 2022 10:44 am

Tropical Storm Kay is moving this way with heavy winds and rains for this afternoon and evening. That sounds so strange to me! Up to an inch, maybe more, rain expected here. San Diego is expected to get the highest amount of rain. So far here it is just cloudy and no wind...

Meanwhile, the Fairview Fire up in Hemet is now almost 28,000 acres and only 5% contained! It is moving toward the little mountain town of Anza and there are possible evacuations coming as far as Temecula which is on the other side of the mountains. :o Today's storm won't help any with winds up to and over 60 mph! Such a sad situation!

Gov Newsome is signing a bill to increase fast food workers wages to $22 per hour! Big Macs will probably now cost $15. I might have to go work for McD's. I only make $15 and I went to school for this. I barely make $22 with tips! Not too fair for the rest of us who will still be at minimum wage.

I will just stay inside today and work on stuff around here.

Have a good day and stay safe!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Good Morning, we are finally getting some rain here. Not much, so far. Staff went out to pool and laid the umbrellas down. We’ve not had much wind, but better to be prepared. Lyn

I'm glad I didn't decide to go to Lafayette today. The plumber called wanting to come finish the work he started. It will be nice to be able to use both bathrooms. I am sitting in front of a fan trying to cool off after walking to the barn five times. I want to put up some fence so the cows can't get to the new faucet but can't find the wire cutters. There was a big wire cutter tool hanging in the shed but it has disappeared.

Barbie, hope you get some rain out of the tropical storm and not flooding. I have missed the rain for two days.

Barbara, you mean they didn't teach you in high school that flipping burgers was a high paying career path? Those who elected our Gov can thank him, I wasn't one of those !

I could have saved the $5000 I spent going to school and just went right to work for McD's!

I like most of what Newsome does, but not this time. To single out one group to get an extra $7 per hour doesn't seem fair to me. (That is $15K a year more than the regular minimum wage!) They are mostly high school kids that work at fast food places. Why should they get so much more than those like me who have gone to school and worked hard for years in a chosen career. Also doesn't give them too much incentive to further their education after high school. Doesn't make sense to me. I may have to work at Taco Bell to be able to afford to keep eating my Taco Supreme's after they raise the price to $10 each to make up for the wage increase! :o

We are in the purple zone for getting "extreme" rain according to the "excessive rainfall" map for SoCal, but so far just enough to barely get the ground wet, and very little wind. Still have a day to go so maybe... :? I don't want excessive rain but just a good drenching would be nice. I can hear drops coming down again...

Not feeling too motivated today. Me and Romeow are just hanging out on my bed. I fell asleep earlier when I heard the rain pitter-pattering on the awning over my bedroom window. I guess some of the park models around me have no power but so far I still have it. Keep my fingers crossed. Still haven't heard anything about my Jeep yet. :?

Hotter than expected here, so I am uncomfortable inside, but supposed to be high of only 67 tomorrow. Was 85 earlier here and now dropped to 82. Went into Bandon to pick up some bakery items and gas. Back at campground to make phone calls to try to find someone who has right AC, which so far I can find only online. At least I have confirmed the right replacement model and have the right manufacturers model number. Fleetwood/REV says it would be 4-6 weeks to get it from them. Amazon and another place are faster, but I need a place to ship it to. Box will be very large and not fit in my door and weigh about 100 pounds, so no picking it up. So, I need to find a place that I can ship it to where they will install it. No one has it in stock in Oregon or Washington.

I just looked up San Diego weather, and I think they have won the record for the most warnings: flash flood warning, excessive heat warning, high wind warning, a gale warning, two flood advisories, and a beach hazard statement!! Only thing they are missing is tornado warning and snow warning. Crazy!!! So, I assume you are staying indoors, Lyn, right???

Hoping the couple across the roadway leaves tomorrow. They have four big dogs that they leave inside their trailer when they leave, and they all bark non-stop as soon as they pull away!!!

Enjoy the rain while you have it, Barbie!

Just checking the weather report. It is only 78* right now!! :o But with 93% humidity! Looking at the radar (cause I just got a flash flood warning on my phone), looks like some heavier stuff is heading this way. But as in the past, that can disappear as fast as it shows up on radar. Stay tuned...

I just looked up the "raise" by Newsom. He actually signed a bill giving fast food workers a say in their wages. It "creates a 10-member council of fast food workers, franchisees, franchisors, advocates for fast food employees, and representatives from the governor's office. The council will establish minimum standards on wages, working hours, and other working conditions related to the health and safety of workers. The law applies to food chains with more than 100 locations, including Starbucks, Wendy's, Burger King, and McDonald's." This is per BusinessInsider online. There are other sources, but this was published four days ago, so you will have to do a search to find it.

So hopefully, the increase will not be that high because employers and others will have input.

Judy, I would think the franchisee's would not agree to that high of a pay raise since it will affect their bottom line quite a bit. I agree there are other parts of the bill that will be good for the workers.

We got some more rain but just a steady rain for awhile which is much better than a torrential rain, which other areas got. One area south of me got almost 1/2 an inch in 10 minutes! We got just under 1 1/2 inches here. Doesn't sound like much but considering we only average about 3 inches per year, that is pretty good. Especially since so far we have only had .15 of an inch for the year so far. I haven't heard yet how the mountains fared with rain, wind, and the fire. Supposed to have more rain off and on thru tomorrow but nothing heavy like today.

Just read that the rain helped with the fire and they have it now 40% contained. Good news, since it was just 5% contained this morning.

So, that stuff is called "rain"? Haven't seen it in so long that I forgot! But did it have to happen the day I had to drive to my doctor's office 30+ miles away? Clogged traffic the whole way. Freeway stop and go at 10 mph. Took 4-5 changes of lights at intersections on surface streets. Ugh! But good news is I must be fairly healthy for an old broad. Got my wellness check. Isn't that a laugh? I thought that meant a good physical. Nope! Just a questionnaire to see if brain is operating. What year is it? Who is President? Draw a clock with all the numbers. Are they kidding? There is probably a whole generation of kids who have never noticed a clock with actual numbers!

Don't know how much rain we got, but it was a good off and on watering. Best of all - temps in 80's! Haven't seen that in months either!

Evie, your post made me smile. A wellness check is a total joke - a way for doctors to bill insurance for a doctor visiti.

It is very, very difficult to get good medical care here where I am. Sutter North Medical Foundation is a monopoly in my area - it's pretty much Sutter North or nothing.

Back in February, I had some medical tests for an issue I was having. Exam, followed by ultrasound, the whole ball of wax. The results of these tests were posted to my online health account, identifying what may (or may not) be a serious health issue. I read them over, trying to understand as much as I could.

Other than this online posting, no second doctor visit, no phone call, no follow-up, nothing.

Totally unsure what I am supposed to do with this information. I kinda-sorta figured out what the medicalese words meant by doing multiple Google searches.

I guess now we are expected to self-diagnose and self-evaluate.

I think older people are just being kicked to the curb.

Anne, that's what I think too. As soon as you get on Medicare they don't really want to see you.

When I took my dad in to be evaluated for dementia, they also asked him to count backwards from 100 by 7 :o . I told the doctor that I couldn't even do that! I would be stuck on 93! :? Really??

I miss my doctor back in MN. She was so nice and really took the time to spend with me and let me ask all the questions I needed to. Can't find that here.

I had my mammogram a couple weeks ago and haven't heard anything since then. I am hoping no news is good news!

Anne I had the exact same issue as you. Labs, Chest xray then a CT scan. Got to look at the results and diagnosis on my portal. OK so this was the end of July. Crickets from my doc. So I got a little testy this week and sent her a message. Told her I dont see her until Halloween. Told her okay so we had all the tests, got results, and what happened to the treatment part of this plan. Told her I needed some prednisone, inhaler, etc She responded the next morning. Sent 2 prescriptions to Costco no prednsone yet but inhaler and 7day lung antibiotic. She wasnt aware I couldnt see the pulmonologist until Thanksgiving. She made an appt for me to see her next Thursday. So I guess I got her off her duff.

Isn't it a shame what our medical industry has become? Doctors have so many patients that they don't remember any of them. Now that our records are all in the computer, unless their assistant reminds them, they have no reason to look in our files to jog their memories. Out of sight, out of mind. The "old days" had actual file folders that would sit on their desks until they dealt with it. Now we get the obligatory "report" that we can't understand and, you're right, the responsibility falls on the patient to follow up. My medical clinic got rid of all their in-house schedulers almost a year ago. Used to be your doctor said he/she wanted to see you in 6 months and you walked out to the scheduler and got your appointment. Now there's a central phone number for all appointments. I've never had a real live person answer the phone no matter what time I call. Last time I tried to make an appointment, the automated voice said my wait would be 1 hour and 30 minutes. Are they serious? So this visit, my doctor said she would make my next appointment for me and her assistant did it right then and there. Doctor said every one of her patients has complained about the new appointment system.
