Sunshine Tuesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunshine Tuesday

Postby Colliemom » Tue Sep 06, 2022 7:55 am

Good Morning. Beautiful morning, but chilly. 47° but real feel is 42°. It will warm up pretty quick once that sun gets up.

The big exodus south is over. Lots of traffic heading out of here yesterday. Still will be some today too, but not to the degree of yesterday. Approximately 26,000 people walked the Mackinac Bridge yesterday morning.

I spent yesterday getting the entrance to our sub decorated for fall and today I am going to finish up my decorations. The pallet pumpkins look so nice, I think I am going to make another small one to put out in the front. I do have some pallet wood here. Won’t take long. Today is going to be kind of a just get that stuff done, things put away, pick up some sticks and branches etc. One of those cleanup around outside in the yard type days. Here’s a pic of entrance decorations. The pallet pumpkins that I have said I was working on, are on the left side of the picture.

Shelia, your area sounds like mine in relation to tourists. The big influence of families are gone, but the seniors will be around. But not to the extent of the summer crowds. It’s pretty quiet around here now as most of the people who have second homes here have gone back. Our traffic volume will drop dramatically. Football season, cider and pumpkins and fall activities are now on the agenda up here. It’s mostly the weekends that draw people. Baby glad that you were there to rescue Romeow. Maybe in time he won’t be into that stuff because he will be done exploring and messing around as he gets older. Judy, smart move heading to a cooler location.

Guess I had better get myself cleaned up and get ready to get my day started. Hope that you all have a nice day out there and those f you in California who are under the high heat or near fires, stay safe.

Good Morning, No sun here but then I love cloudy days in the summer. I feel so bad for all of you in the heat. We had it earlier in the summer and it was awful. I hope it cools off and rain where it is needed. We could sure use some rain, it is still raining all around us.

Sue, you amaze me the pallet pumpkins are really great.

Judy I'm so glad you were able to get to cooler weather I can't imagine what might have happened without A/C to things in your RV. Your fridge might not have held up. Enjoy those ocean breezes.

Not much here, back to keeping Toby and Pippa separated he just won't leave her alone and will just suddenly jump her. She is too frightened and too small to fight back. He is almost 11 years old and doubt he will change. He has reluctantly accepted the other dogs but I guess Pippa got on his last nerve. He is about to be on mine!!! I don't think any type of training would help at this point.

Time to get in the shower and face the day.

Won't be any relief from heat here until at least weekend, when it may drop into 90's. Rain could be months off yet. All predictions are we will break all time heat records today. Yesterday we topped at 112° with 18% humidity. We are staying in with AC. No fires close to here, though a new one overnight up the hill probably 45 miles from me or less. Might get smoke depending on winds. We hope for no wind so they can stop this soon.
Romeow certainly sounds fun amd entertaining! You are smart to be looking for ways to cat proof!
Judy, glad you got out of heat. It's gonna be bad for rest of week they are saying.
Sue I love your wood projects. I wish I could get to point where I can play with my scroll saw.
I'm tired today, only slept 4.5 hours as we watched tv late then noise on my roof ( likely squirrels or turkeys, woke me and my neck hurts so can't nap. Happily this is a take it easy day anyhow.
Stay safe everyone.

Sue, your decorations are fantastic!!! You are so talented!!! Thanks for the pictures. And thanks for the info on walking the bridge. I would have loved to do that a few years ago. Lyn

I had a good night's sleep last night. Will be getting ready for work soon (1-6 today).

Velda, I think our temps are actually lower than yours! But the temps here go down when the humidity goes up. Next weekend the temps here will only be in the 90's with a big storm system coming up from Mexico (left over hurricane) so they say we will be getting wide spread rain and thunderstorms. I won't hold my breath on that tho. It will make it much more humid tho. This is getting old for me!

Went to the potluck yesterday evening. About 25 people came, mostly women but it was fun. One of the ladies cooked and brought tri-tip! OMG!! was that good! Put some BBQ sauce on it and YUM!!! So tender! I went back for seconds and thirds (after everyone else was working on dessert). I need to try making that sometime. The first time I ever had it was when I was traveling down here 15 years ago with Linda from MN and we stopped to stay with a friend of hers in SLC. She made tri-tip and I fell in love with it! Tri-tip was first "discovered" in Santa Maria, CA. ...Tri tip dates back to early 19th century America, where it was a write-off and ground up to be used in hamburger meat. It wasn’t until the 1950s when Bob Schutz, the then-owner of Santa Maria Market, upon receiving an excess of hamburger meat, decided to prepare and eat it like a steak.... Tri-tip has been a big hit ever since!

I just have the hair and leather shawl left to put on the gourd now. Oh, and the feathers too. It is coming along nicely!

Have a good day and stay cool and safe! Judy, you have found a nice cool, and very scenic area to be in! Enjoy!

...Oh Sue, love your fall display! Great job on the pumpkins!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

No sunshine here, it's raining again. I don't know how you stand temperatures of 112. It's only 82 this morning.

The Hummingbirds must be getting ready for their trip South. There are 6 fighting over the feeder this morning. That's the most I have seen all summer.

My neighbor's son wants to buy the horse trailer so thought I would look for the key. I have 2 jars of old keys. I went out with a hand full of keys and the second key I tried fit the lock. That's a miracle.

Sue, the pumpkin patch is so cute.

Mobile RV guy came and tore apart AC unit. Result is that I need a new one, but it would take him two weeks to get one, and by then I will be far north of here. I called around several places and still waiting to hear from REV/Fleetwood service in Coburg, near Eugene. I need to verify if I have the right part number and if they can get one. If so, I could get it installed when I get back from Atlanta on Sept 19th or so.

I do think I made the right decision, so thanks for your positive comments. I was worried not just about my motorhome, but all the stuff inside it, including food and meds, baking in the heat. Good point about refrigerator failing!! At least a house heats up a lot more slowly, but RVs are like tin cans in the sun, as you all know.

Luckily, other than trip to Atlanta, I will be staying at only campgrounds on the coast in Oregon for next couple of weeks, and then going into Washington for more coastal campgrounds. Been thinking I could live here in Eureka because of the beautiful cool ocean breeze!! I am really comfortable here and was even cold last night.

And, Barbie, please post the recipe for tri-tip when you find one that you like.

Glad you are comfortable there in Eureka. I worked on assignment there for 4 years. Loved the weather even during the winter. Lots of super nice people. Also lots of homeless but mainly over by the mall.

Hope you can get your AC fixed on your timeline.

If I was homeless, I would be living on the coast, under a palm tree on the beach!

Just got home from work. Only did 3 haircuts today. It was hot there today again. Supposedly someone came in this morning to fix the AC issue but it was actually warmer than before (81* ). I texted my manager about it and she said to call the owner so he hears from someone other than her about it (since he wasn't taking her seriously). So I did but, being that we don't like each other (since the big argument about the harassment last year), it wasn't very helpful. He said he keeps his house at 79* and he feels very comfortable so 81* shouldn't be a big deal. He did say he would look into it tho. We'll see how far that goes!

I am taking my Jeep in tomorrow morning and dropping it off at my mechanic shop to look at. My friend Dave is meeting me there and taking me back home. Hopefully, they will figure out for sure what the problem is and that it isn't anything too expensive.

I picked up some spaghetti on the way home from my favorite Italian restaurant so I will have plenty to eat for the next few days in case I don't get my car back until Friday.

Will be doing laundry, working on the gourd, and getting the rest of my gourd stuff organized. I ordered some more plastic drawers (that will be here tomorrow) that go with the ones I already have that will fit my paints in. Then clean the rest of the house. I will need to put air in the low tire on the golf cart again that has a slow leak, so I can use that to get to the laundry room.

I tried to trim Romeow's nails last night and he really fought me and finally got away, after hissing at me! :o There is a sling that I have seen on Amazon that you can put them in and then hang the sling from the shower rod, so you can clip their claws that way. I have my doubts about how well that will work but not sure what other options I have. So I may order that this week. His nails have to get trimmed since they are so sharp. He has scratched me accidentally already while just playing, not to mention him getting his nails stuck in things.

Have a good night and stay safe from the heat, smoke and fires! Judy and Sue sound like they are in the best places right now!

my skirts arrived!!!! :P actually on the day they said... was expecting them to go to the post office but to the gate didn't know that they were there till dd brought them in... now to figure out what to wear with them as I don't think the tops will make it before we leave... doubt they have even been sent oh well hopefully I will get them one day... need to try the skirts on see if they fit.. hopefully
have dr's appt for tomorrow am hoping that the cruise will be supplemental oxygen free!!! hoping that the ambosol will be enough.... and hopefully I can get them to show me better how to use it... still don't feel like I'm using it correctly.
so did nothing today except clean out my purse start some notes and wrote down the books I read in Aug.. lots of books counted them not I don't know possibly 16 actually that sounds right... I need to figure out my laundry situation a batch of pants down on the laundry room floor but not sure that I want to go down the stairs if I'm with out the hose and too far if I'm not... very tempted to send mom's clothes that are dirty with her so sister in law can wash them and take mine with me and I will do them at my dd's before leaving on the cruise...
Sue that is really a cute display
and Evie really glad you checked in I know that Sharon is out East but how about her family are they ok?? Barbie bet your gourd doll is going to be cute... and perhaps you need to find Romeow's stash  maybe a groomer would be a good thing to do that way he won't get upset with you
Judy glad you found it to cooler climes
Velda and Anne hope you all cool off soon
you all take care

Best way to do a tritip is either a smoker or on a BBQ where you can do it indirect heat, flame on one side and meat at other end. Simplest is to rub it all over with whatever mustard you have, then rub with your favorite spice/herb rub- preferably one with no sugar or MSG. If you can, rub with mustard, spices, then put on ziplock in fridge over night. Next day, while meat sits on counter coming up to room temp (takes about an hur and assures more even cook throughout), you get BBQ or smoker ready. Key is a instant read meat thermometer ! On smoker, I set temp at 225°. I cook about 30-45 min, depending on size and thickness. You want to pull it at about 127° for medium. When you take off, wrap in parchment then foil. At this point you can refrigerate. About hour before serving reheat in 225° oven. Slice thin across the grain so you have short fibers, not along grain so long fibers! Never supposed to be overlooked so its tender and wet like pot roast! It's a steak, not a pot roast. Mel and I did them quite often. Delicious! Great leftovers for sandwiches.

I wonder how it would turn out in an airfryer?

I'm sure there are air fryer recipes for tritip. Might depend on the power of the Air Fryer. Key is not over cooking it. The tritip I have seen at Costco would have to be cut as too big for my big 8qt.There is a gal named Kathy who owns Fab Frugal deals who had lots and lots of AF ideas who might do tritip. Have to search? If you don't have an instant read thermometer , you really need one to avoid over or under cooking food. I'm sure Wakmart has one.
