Furry Friday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Furry Friday

Postby BarbaraRose » Fri Aug 19, 2022 2:23 pm

I just got back home with Romeow from his vet visit. We are both resting from a very stressful morning!

He was pretty stressed out just being in the carrier. I suppose he wondered if he was going back to the shelter. He was panting and breathing hard the whole way over. Once we got there, there were dogs barking in the reception area so that didn't help him any. We finally got called in and he got examined. He got a clean bill of health. He was pretty scared tho which made me anxious trying to calm him down the whole time. I had them clip his claws for me too. When we were leaving, someone had a pit bull and a smaller dog who were barking at any other dog who came in or were leaving. It was really vicious sounding barking and the woman had a hard time controlling both dogs. I was so glad to get out of there! Both of us were having anxiety attacks from that!

So now we are both just chilling out. I am sure Romeow is very happy to be back home! Me too!

I need to put away some bins I left outside yesterday and maybe take a run to the thrift store to drop off the stuff in my Jeep.

My shoulder is really sore today. It has been for the past week also. Maybe from lifting bins, etc. I need to baby it for awhile. Intestinal issues seem to be under control now. :D

Have a good Friday!

Barbie, in a few days, after Romeow has a chance to get over his vet visit, maybe try giving him treats in the carrier. Good thing he isn't like Stinky. Every time I have had to bring her to the vet she has messed in the carrier. When she was young my son carried her in a tool bag a couple of times. I don't think she will ever get over her fear. I put a waterproof disposable pad in a carrier when I bring one of the cats to the vet. I know what Stinky is going to do so I bring an extra pad. It's fun to try to get the dirty pad out without her getting it all over herself or getting out of the carrier. I don't like to see people with dogs they can't control. There are so many pit bulls in this area but I seldom see anyone bring one to the vet. The local shelter is full of them because the owners won't get them fixed. If the parish would sponsor low cost spay and neuter clinics it would save them money in the long run.

It started raining yesterday at 4:00 and rained off and on all night. This morning there was a 1/2 inch in the rain gauge. There was another big rain this afternoon. There is a storm that is forming in the gulf and is suppose to go into Mexico and Texas. We have rained predicted for the next 10 days. I sure wish it would go to some place that needs rain.

Walmart finally sent me a text that Sugar's medicine was ready. I'll go pick it up tomorrow.

It's been another hot CA day, at 102° with 24% humidity. I made it to Curves, though still exhausted from my flare of long CoVid symptoms past few days.
Good news is, bypassing one of the 2 sprinkler valves, using the 3rd valves hot, rewired as ground/common, for the other two, the timer is able to open and run the valves. Which means, it's the white common/ground that failed somewhere between the valves and the timer-- underground so not accessible to repair as that underground goes below house wall, under ground then under the house. We believe we have a way to run it across the rock face, under the porch deck, through a foundation vent and back up through hole where old wire is to the timer! Keeping fingers crossed this plan works!
One friends husband had open hert surgery to replace the failed heart valve that was installed 8-10 years ago, and is off bypass, and into CICU. They hope by tomorrow he will have gotten enough anesthesia out of his system to get him off ventilator and headed to recovery! They are my best friends since our mutual Navy days, so long ago.
Another friend, her partner had a argument with a bolder in their beautiful Ram truck, which took 2 tow trucks , 3 men, and over an hour to get truck off. That rock at edge of shopping center entrance, is so popular to high center on, it has it's own Facebook page!
A third friend has been cross country to WI to see her Mom and siblings and on way home, her dog got very sick with infection of unknown origin in her leg, so she had to find a vet in Tooele Utah willing to help.
Between all that and my flare of symptoms, we found the sewage pump in my basement which serves bathroom there, has failed , so had to shut water off! Fortunately no flood! I have 3 other bathrooms, but had to convince Sean the handyman that, therefore it's not an emergency as he can use one of the other 3!
Sure glad it's the weekend!
Have a good one everyone!

The monsoons have certainly dropped enough rain around the Four Corners area, and a wider swath around there. We have been having constant small rainstorms--you will hear thunder and see lightning, but it will skip past you and hit a nearby area. Then a couple of hours later, another storm will do the same. So far today, we had a storm that hit us this morning, one about 2pm, and one about an hour ago. These have dropped more rain than the ones yesterday, and it is supposed to rain Saturday and Sunday, and then Wednesday and later in the week. I know this is not enough for the drought, but it sure must help! At least they are saying it has been more rain than last summer's monsoons.

I made bread yesterday, so had french toast for breakfast/Lunch and am now having a toasted cheese sandwich with tomato. I need to remember to put a bit more salt in my recipe next time because it tastes really flat. Bread without salt tastes dull.

Took a walk around the campground between rain storms and checked out all the sites which are supposedly for big rigs. Some, however, have big trees on either side and make a sharp turn, so I don't think I could fit in those. (All sites are roadside pull-thrus in this campground.) So, if anyone wants tips on reasonable long and level sites here, send me a message.

Generator time, so got everything charging up!!

I need to remember not to wash and go to the store on the same day... my knees hate the thought of going down the stairs to get the clothes but since the PJ's are in the dryer need to do so for sure there will be something not dry.. I probably should get up and go do that so if I need to start the dryer again I can do so..
so far the turtle is still hanging in there... :D pleases me...
Barbi have you thought of putting a chip in Romanof? saw a story the other day where a cat wondered and was found years later by the chip which I guess isn't normal they found the owner... frankly I never would have thought to chip a cat until I read that article...
my brother is in town not seen him yet don't know if SIL's procedure has been done yet or not. I text him to ask him if he could look in the grocery store near them for something that Smith's didn't carry... he said he had never seen it there... so text niece to see if she could stop at Albertson's to see if they have it she said that Bob and Jolene had checked at both stores for it and not found it was going to look at whole foods sometimes I get irritated when people don't pay attention I'd already said that Smith's didn't have it so why recheck... I did get a chili mix but actually prefer this other brand oh well it will work going to have Navajo taco's Sunday might have to go get some more meat as I pilfered some from the chili for spaghetti. I am just hoping it will make enough as it's been a long time since I've used this brand...
so in the world of doing anything today.... not so much did finish a book though  and go to the store and put clothes in the washer and then into the dryer and watered plants so guess I did more that I first remembered...
dd made it to their new home in WA state... seem strange to have her so far away ... they had to drive straight through so hic cup with the insurance she said she would call later but hasn't I am sure it's been a busy day and of course were tired...
you all have a good day it's off to the laundry I go

Sheila, both my cats have been chipped since they were 6 mo old! It's pretty common I have heard for rescue organizations to have all animals- cat or dog, microchipped at time of their spay/neuter surgery before allowing adoption. I would bet Romeow is chipped already. His name is Romeow not Romanoff, just remember the meow part!

Velda I'd never heard of chipping a cat but I truly think it's a good idea... and knew that I'd misspelled his name but didn't edit ...

Yes, Romeow is chipped. Most rescues now put chips in all animals before they are adopted, along with updated shots and, if needed, spay and neuter.

Martha, I had a cat once who would pee, poop and puke when in the car! I had the puppy pads in the carrier but it was still a mess to clean up, both the carrier and her.

I think he is very grateful tonight to be back with me. :D He has barely left my side all day! He probably was sure he was being dumped again! :o We both took a long nap this afternoon. I had a headache and took some Advil and then fell asleep for several hours. Feel better tonight. Didn't get anything done around here today but I guess I needed to relax instead. Will try again tomorrow.

I will be doing a haircut tomorrow on my next door neighbor lady, Gloria. Then, my friend Debbie will be coming by to meet Romeow.

I started having all the cats I have spayed or neutered microchipped. Not that it has gotten one found. If one ever ends up in a shelter hopefully they will return the cat.

I posted a picture on Facebook of one of my cats that has been missing since May. I went out to shut the door to the old house this afternoon and there he was. I guess he has found another home. I would sure like to know where he has been. He and his brother had started roaming and would be here a while and then disappear for days. Most of my outside cats spend the days sleeping on the carport and waiting for dinner. Ever so often I will see one of them with a rat but the rats must come to them.
