Quiet August Saturday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Missed Again! Saturday

Postby BarbaraRose » Sat Aug 13, 2022 12:41 pm

Last night I was watching a VERY impressive lightning show over the mountains in back of me! Beautiful lightning in the clouds was constant! I checked the radar and it was a huge storm over Joshua Tree but not moving this direction. Then I got a notification on my phone that there was a new cell that was just south of me and was heading straight in my direction along the I-10 about 10 miles away. It was growing quickly and the alert said it had torrential rains, high winds, and hail. I moved my car further under the carport so it wouldn't get hit with the hail and then waited. I could hear the thunder not far away and waited... After about 15 minutes, it got quiet and I checked the radar again. Nothing! It had disappeared as fast at it had appeared and was gone! I think I am under a bubble that pushes storms away from here! It was SO close this time and yet still managed to not get here! After I went to sleep, I later heard about 3 drops of rain hit my awning over my bedroom window and that was it. Ugh!

Well, yesterday I got busy at noon and started in on my living room. Went thru some of the left over bins in there that had "misc" stuff in it. I washed the floors and dusted. I found a bug in one of the bins that was still barely alive. Didn't know what it was but had my suspicions so I scooped it up and brought it outside and took a photo of it. It died within minutes of being outside (thank God!). I looked it up on Google and it was a cockroach! I have never seen one before and I hope to never see another one! Glad it was only one! I cleaned the whole living room and didn't see any more. I have never seen any bugs in here other than the tiny ants last year and an occasional baby spider. Am thinking it may have come in with the bin from the storage unit.

I also started organizing my gourd stuff. I have some of it already in labeled plastic drawer bins but other stuff was just mixed up in boxes. Went thru all my paints and got them in categories by types of paint and labeled. Got all my little accessories put in plastic divided boxes so I can see them better when I need one. I still have some things left to organized but most of it is done. I need a few more plastic bins but I think I have some empty ones out on the porch that will work. Will be nice to have all that finally organized and easy to find stuff!

Today I need to cut up the cardboard boxes out in the porch and get those to the dumpster and do laundry and dishes. I figured I may as well combine all my outside stuff and get it all over and done with while dealing with the heat for just one day. Just need to remember to drink lots of water all day!

My shoulders and lower back/hips have really been hurting me a lot lately. Not sure if I am overdoing it with moving stuff around here or if it is just worse because of the humidity. Maybe a combination of both. My left shoulder hasn't hurt like this for almost a year! I do know humidity wreaks havoc with arthritis.

As for the ice discussion, I rarely use ice in my drinks. My teeth are really sensitive so I am fine with room temperature drinks. Sometimes I put my bottled water in the fridge when I am working in the heat to help me cool off a bit. We have a huge ice bin by the laundry room down the street so if I need ice, that is a good, free place to get it. I only use that now to cool off the water I am going to put in the aquarium. Our tap water comes out hot all the time this time of year so I need to cool it down before adding it to the tank so I put some ice in it to cool it down faster.

So I guess I better get up and going here. Lots to get done today again! Have a good Saturday! :D

Quiet August Saturday

Postby MandysMom » Sat Aug 13, 2022 12:43 pm

I slept a bit late, but was surprised to be first here. Hope you are all out having fun. It's 83° here in my part of northern California at 10:30 am. Once I get morning chores done with cats and bird and son, I think I'll work on my room. I have Amazon boxes that need cutting and collapsing and stuffed in trash can. Then vacuum room. Not sure if I have energy to drag out carpet shampoo machine to do bathroom and traffic paths or not.
August is difficult as I always think back to the last weeks of Mel's life, but it seems a little easier this year.
We are headed towards 104° and higher as we begin a new week tomorrow. Not looking forward to that. I'm tired of summer this year!
Do have a good weekend.

Morning Barbara! Guess we will both cut boxes today! I had weird dreams last night that had me clenching my bite plate so hard both top and bottom jaws were sore to front of jaw! Not sure what set me off but I think I recall what sounded like an amber alert on my phone , with a tone followed by a short message, but sounded like it came from over by my desk at far end of room, where during day I recharge iPad. I thought, I'll look when I get up. But when I got up, I realized my iPad was on table beside me, as was my phone! Still not sure what noise was, as I checked both this morning and no notification of any alert! Must have dreamed it, or it was something outside, which would be unusual in this neighborhood.
Hope your shoulder gets better. Do you have CBD capsules you can take? They have helped my morning pain and stiffness a lot. If I forget to take one as I get up, my pain lingers through day.

Good Morning All, I haven’t been posting because I have been feeling so terrible. I have had serious problems with my BP. I was going along fine with the medications I was on. Then my BP began showing up low. I felt fine . My doctor decided to quit the amlodipine, so I did. I still felt fine. Then the BP went low and my Metoprolol was cut in half. A few days later my BP really dropped. And I felt horrible. So they stopped the Metroprolol. Since then, my BP and my pulse are doing OK, but I feel crappy. I am checking my BP 2x a day and it is running OK.
I have bouts of dizzying and shaking and I feel like my pulse is racing. When I check my pulse with the oximeter, it is perfectly normal.
I cannot get an appointment with my doc until August 22nd.
Are all my symptoms crazy….my Doctor knows me and how sane I really am, so I hate to go see someone else. And I really like my doctor. I have Kaiser, so I could get an appointment sooner with another doctor on staff if I wanted to do so. I keep debating and laying on the couch all
Day. I have not been exercising because I’m afraid of falling while walking to the swim pool. So that is my big news. Lyn

Hi Velda and all that check in!

Beth, I hope you & Ginger are having a good visit! Shirl, I feel so badly for you that you had to change you number after all these years. Cheryl & Tina, that is so neat that you two were able to have a gtg. Karen, Barbie, Sheila, O'Sharon and others I overlooked, I always look forward to your posts.

On the opposite side of the country it is 91 degrees and feels like 99. The temperature dropped several degrees from only an hour ago

There is nothing new in our corner of the world. There is a Farmer's Market in town every Saturday that we go to and our fruit and fresh veggies are filled up for another week. There is a flea market here every Monday and the Farmer's Market is also there, but the crowds on Saturday are minimal compared to the Monday crowd. Today is also practice day for tomorrow's service. I just finished that and will rehearse one more time in the morning before we leave.

Velda, I grind my teeth too, especially at night. Some days/nights are worse than others. I still have some of the CBD ointment I got from the lady I used to work with at the pot shop. Am running low tho and don't know how to get a hold of her now. That stuff works really good but I am going thru it fast now (twice a day).

Lyn, my blood pressure is always low and always has been (90/50). When I was young, I occasionally would pass out when ever I stood up too fast or stood for too long. Now I just occasionally get lightheaded for a bit. It is something to keep an eye on tho. I always tell the nurses who take my blood pressure, not to panic when they see how low it is, because they will if I don't mention that it is normal for me.

Am taking a break now from the heat! So sweaty!!

Barbie, one lesson I learned while in college was to never open anything that had been in storage in a house. Next time, pile the bins and boxes outdoors, like in your shed, and then open them one at a time outdoors and repacking before you being stuff inside. Preferably repack in a plastic bin that has been washed out and dried!! That one might have come from a neighbor who had put out bait, but it would not hurt for you to put some bait in your shed.

Speaking of bugs, I have got a pesky fly in here. Got tired of chasing him around, but the frustrating thing is that he/she likes landing on ME!!

I went through a long list of things I had to do yesterday--like writing out postcards and paying a bill, cleaning my shadow box, and doing a bunch of other things i had been putting off. Got to sort through my plastic box where I keep my receipts today, and finish baking some bread. Add killing that fly to my list!!

Heading south tomorrow through Ouray, Silverson, Durango, and finally to McPhee Campground. Will be a long mountainous drive, but I plan to stop in Ouray and Silverton.

Lyn, are you drinking enough water?? That can be a cause of low blood pressure, especially as we get older. You can gt dizzy when dehydrated and also hallucinate when you don't drink enough.

My blood pressure was always low, also. With age it's crept up. Now it's usually low normal lol. As a child I'd know it was dropping because I'd crave salty things. I rarely use salt but to this day if I crave it I find something salty. And yes to drinking lots of fluids.

I think most of us don't drink enough water... I know that I don't it's hard to remember to drink water... but it causes a lot of issues so Lynn as much as you like your dr might get an earlier appointment and drinking more water can't hurt... probably will even help... that said it's cool enough that I do believe that hot chocolate will taste really good!!!
it is fun to watch Murder she Wrote and figure out who the people played in other shows and to see repeat stars in different episodes with different names  and to figure out who gets killed off..
got up and around a bit later than normal as I waited to hear mom get up she finally did and took her thyroid med so had to wait a bit before she could have breakfast...and then after scriptures yielded to FB and the dumb stories one can find there then thought oh one chapter won't hurt finished the book  by that time it was late in the afternoon and I still needed to go to the store...so went to Smith's didn't have what I wanted for supper so stopped at Albertson's they did but didn't have the grapefruit the kid in produce directed me to the fruit aisle said that they were no longer refrigerated what it was was the normal fruit in a plastic cup yes it was grapefruit but they are so much more than the bigger container so think Monday I'll go over to Idaho get what I asked my dd to pick up for me and see if Broulim's still carries it...oh my got the hot chocolate hot!!! and that is saying something for me as I like my drinks cold icy cold and extremely hot... really no in between.
we had a short but heavy rain storm tonight with thunder and lightening hard enough that it even got mom's attention....
my niece was in an accident the 12 I think a jet ski she had to have surgery to stop the bleeding but is home now... so glad that she is going to be ok
you all have a great day

It was mostly in the 80's today because it was overcast and scattered showers. Last week I got 1 1/2 inches of rain. This week I have gotten 3/4 inch but there is water standing all over. The grass is like a sponge. They are saying we might have 2 or 3 days of no rain. We'll see.

My friend that moved to New Orleans was in town today with her husband. I went to lunch with them. I hadn't seen them since covid started.

We have the worst farmers markets here. There is very little produce and mostly bread, cakes, jelly and junk. The feed store will let people sell things on their porch on Saturday morning. Today all they had was okra. Around here people like to cook a lot of okra down and freeze it. I don't know what they do with it after that because I don't like okra unless it's fried.

My shoulder has been hurting a lot lately with pain down into my arm. My shoulder has bothered me for years but the arm pain is new. I try to remember to not pick up the cat litter jugs with my right arm. Barbie, you should see the roaches we have here. I forget what people call them. Some are almost 2 inches long. My cats will kill them. I don't see small ones so they come in under the storm door.

For some reason I only get amber alerts when I'm driving and it takes me a while to figure out what that noise is. It seems like almost everything has an alarm. Yesterday something sounded 3 times and I couldn't figure out what it was. I have 5 smoke alarms but it sounded like it was something in my office. Maybe it was on TV.

Lyn, hope you get your low blood pressure figured out. I get dizzy sometimes and I know I don't drink enough water.
