Wednesday August 3

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Wednesday August 3

Postby Shirlv » Wed Aug 03, 2022 9:11 am

Morning All, same ole weather, hot and very humid. Have a pick up at friends porch so will wait for email that it has been delivered. Then try to get new home phone device activated today. Judy, I do not discuss my finances with family either. I have told them everything they need to know is written in my day planner for them when I am gone. Hope I will know when I am mentally slipping and need them to know details sooner. Martha, I made the same comment about a needed financial class when my children were in school. It’s hopeless now because their brain is in a smart phone which is why they have to walk around carrying it in their hand. The world is in short supply of common sense among other needed characteristics. Do you want to know how I really feel. Lol As I walk around muttering to myself “Shirl challenges keep your brain operating”. Pray that it is true. Lol Be safe

Sandi, congrats on new car. Should be a fun challenge.

Good Morning, The hot and humid weather has returned here too Shirl. I walked out to help DH bring groceries in and although it is only 85 the humidity and the dew point is 77% so it feels like 93. The feel like temp will be in the triple digits if it does get to 93. I felt bad when I got back inside no longer than I was out. Tonight it is supposed to rain and cool off.

Shirl I also have a hard time understanding when people talk too fast. It's usually if I am on the phone making an appointment or placing an order and it is a younger person. I just say please talk slower I can't listen that fast. It's so true about kids brain being in their smart phones. One of my friends stopped by this morn and was saying her 13 year old grandson doesn't want to do anything except play video games on his computer. His Mon indulges him.

Sandi a new Tesla!! I would definitely be excited. We'll find the bail fund if you get arrested for drag racing. I hear they have really fast pick up.

Have a good day all and keep cool if you are in the hot areas. Sue send a few cool breezes this way please.

It's only 76 today because it's been raining for 4 hours. We are under a flash flood alert until 2:00. I don't know why it's almost over because there is a lot more rain to come through. Sugar has been on the back porch all morning. I don't know why she thinks she has to be outside when it's raining. I would like to go to Walmart but don't really want to get wet. That's my exciting news for the day.

I got my generator problem solved, I think. After ten years on the road, I had no idea that it had an adjustment for altitude. I had problems using it several years ago when I stayed in a campground at about 9,000 feet with it not working. But it got better when I drove lower, so ignored it since I seldom stay at non-electric sites at that altitude. However, i had problems with it in Moraine Campground in Rocky Mountain National Park. It would start, but smoke a lot and then stop because of lack of oxygen, so I left for the last night at a full hookup place. (Expensive, but at least I was able to catch up on my laundry there.)

My problem was that I was planning on 6 nights at the North Rim of Grand Canyon in a couple of weeks. Plus, I did not want to add that to my Camping World bill, so I did some research and found that some Cummins generators have an altitude adjustment. I took a photo of the plaque on the generator with the model and serial numbers, and then I was able to download the right owner's manual from the Cummins site. Went out and took cover off, and there was the little adjustment knob!!! So I set it from sea level to 7,000 feet, which was the highest it would go. Haven't tried it yet, but will dump my tanks tomorrow and drive into Gunnison for the day. Amazing what you can still learn after ten years!!

Oh, and I just got buzzed by two huge military transport planes, at what I think was an illegal height!

Watch out for that Tesla! My Ohio son has one, and it sometimes makes really sudden exits from the freeway--not smooth at all and a bit startling!!

A military plane was not at an "illegal" altitude! They fly under orders and are monitored. And there is no such thing as illegal altitude! Suggest you google that. Low altitude is allowed during daylight as long as not over densely populated civilian areas, unless for training operations. They can fly at times at 500 ft above any structure or vessels.

Thanks for the comments on my “soon to be” new Tesla. I’m still waiting for delivery which could be 2-3 more months. Apparently you never know with Tesla. A woman who lives down the street from me had one on order that was still two months off. But a few days ago she got notice it would be delivered in 2 days! Yesterday I had the wall charger installed in my garage so I’m ready if they want to speed things up. Mine will have Autopilot which keeps you in your lane and monitors the surroundings but you still have to have your hands on the wheel. This is different from self-driving which I’d never get. I guess I should say I’m ready “to a point.” I’ve been reading the online manual and watching various videos on all its features. You basically set everything up on the touchscreen in the car. There are a lot of things to get used to that are so different from standard cars. I had a chance to test drive one a neighbor has and I was sold on it within minutes. Was great to drive. Will also be nice not getting up at 5:30 a.m. in order to beat the long lines at the Costco gas station just to save a few cents per gallon on still very expensive California gas.

I’ll definitely let you know when the big day arrives. It’s rated zero to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds and top speed of 140 mph (woohoo). There are faster models, but I’ll still be thankful the bail fund will be available.

I made it to Walmart without getting rained on but got another 1/2 inch at home.

The lake I go to, Toledo Bend Lake, is between Louisiana and Texas and is about 60 miles long. I have been up there several times during the week and there were jets doing training runs up and down the lake. It's something to see. I'm not sure what base they come from, probably Barksdale. The lake is not very far from Fort Polk Army Base and we see helicopters in the area sometimes. Not sure what they are up to.

while living in SLC we were with in 30 miles of Hill Air Force Base saw planes quite often although it seemed like they went North more than south like we were... One day I was out in the yard heard planes really low and not the fighter's looked up and there were WW2 planes it really made me think of those that lived in Europe during the war.... it was quite frighting... and what it was was a group in for a air show
I find it comforting to see or hear the planes going over head Funny story years ago heavens 18 perhaps my son in law was in the shoot can't think but the home military every once in awhile he would have to go to a base for training this time it was to Alabama for training with the helo's his parents went out to visit and one day my daughter and her father in law were out side and he said I hear a and named the helo and daughter said no you didn't (bear in mind he was always right) yes I did and on and on neither one giving finally dd said they don't have that helo here only and named the two that were at that army base... it still makes me chuckle me?? I couldn't tell the difference between the two by sound or sight...
have fun with that new car Sandi hopefully I will find my way down to Q this winter and you will find your way there for a weekend..
got bad news today dang the ship isn't going to be going to Skagway after all there goes the train ride and the visit with Kerry was so looking forward to BOTH!!!! :(
Next Weds is National Lazy Day... I jumped the gun was so totally lazy today although I finally got the sliding glass doors cleaned looks a lot better...still some water streaks not sure how to deal with them...
Judy glad you found the thing to change the generator hopefully it will take care of it the next time you are in high altitude... and to lower it when at a low elevation
mom ate a bit better today so perhaps her not eating was due to the heat...
I do believe many high schools have life type classes not sure if they are mandatory or not if not should be my granddaughter uses a term she called adulting when she had something that was helping her to be an adult...
I could scroll back and see what was said as I've forgotten but think I won't see I'm lazy today just a week early
have a good day

It is Nat'l Lazy Day for me about 4 days per week all year long!

Nothing too exciting today. Just hot and humid again like usual. Supposed to get worse over the weekend  .

Romeow has terrible flatulence! Typical male! He still has some diarrhea. I need to call tomorrow and make an appointment for his free checkup from the adoption and then see if they can figure out what is causing it. Otherwise he is doing fine.

Need to clean up the carport from the remaining stuff I took out of the storage unit. Looks kind of junky out there and I don't want anyone to complain. I will have to do it early before it gets too hot tho. Unfortunately, the sun shines right into the carport in the morning. Shouldn't take too long tho. I should also clean out my car while I am out there.

Getting sleepy so will say good-night!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

I looked up Gunnison, where Judy said she Is. Turns out its just across the mountain a short distance from the Air Force Academy, so no great surprise to see planes doing training.
