Morning All, weather is same ole. Traffic ic backed up. How is that for a jolly greeting. Sorry, not much happening here so try to avoid boring everyone. Daughter #2 just brought me tomatoes and cucumbers and sure she is sitting in the traffic jam trying to get home. Haven’t been cooking, just eating light, salads and sandwiches. I have a 2 qt. Pitcher full of water sitting on the counter. My attempt at trying to drink more water. Hope everyone’s trials and tribulations are not too troubling. Stay safe

Morning everyone, or afternoon to the east coasters. It's 74° at 0915, on it's way to another hot day. I slept a bit better, so he I can accomplish something today. Too early to tell what. I know I'll need to do at least one load of clothes to get my workout clothes ready for next week. Maybe I can get another pantry rack washed off and into pantry and filled.
It's been weeks and I still see no sign of a single bird visiting feeder or bath I put up. I refill the bath daily as the solar fountain splashes it out a bit. It's become rare to see a single bird in the area. Don't even hear birds often. Makes me sad. I love the sounds of birds. I know having places for multiple birds to congregate is frowned on due to the ongoing bird flu, but I hoped to support a few during these hot days.
I think I'll try to get in a few steps on treadmill before I shower. Have a good day everyone.

It's only 82 this morning and that's because it's getting ready to rain again. I stopped by the land in Maurice yesterday and the grass and weeds are almost waist high. I don't see a break in the rain so I might have to get someone to mow for me.

I didn't stop at the grocery store yesterday so I think I will have to go this afternoon. I'm out of eggs and 1/2 & 1/2. I had the last slice of meatloaf out of the freezer for lunch so will have to make a meatloaf soon. I had made a big batch of ground meat and rice for Sugar so froze it in 1/4 cup mounds so I could just take one out if she has a problem. When I was looking up diarrhea problems in dogs one of the sites called it "garbage gut" and that sure describes her. She tries to eat just about anything she finds in the yard. When crawfish grow they shed their old shell and Sugar loves to eat the cast off shells. I can't see them in the grass but she can sure smell them.

Shirl since I've been keeping a pitcher of water in the fridge (one in both my fridge and the office fridge here) I drink it all the time. Being so cold makes it more refreshing for me.

It's 75 outside right now. Very comfortable since our humidity level is up with the rain we've been getting every afternoon. We might hit 80 on Wednesday. I'm expecting rain again yet this afternoon. Overnights in the 50'... Jacket weather when I walk Ty in the mornings.

Velda, I love having birds around, too. I am getting a few hummingbirds to the feeder I put outside the office. It was nice to see a couple sitting on the porch last night too take pictures of them.

New employee #1 arrived yesterday and worked some today. She'll mainly be in the offices but today I had her clean a couple rooms so she'll be up to speed if/when she needs to back up.

I love having my bird feeders. It’s wonderful to sit on my front deck, read, and listen to them chirp and sing. Velda, maybe you should try a different food. Mine really like a mix I get from Walmart - Pennington Ultra Songbird Blend. It has a lot of sunflower seeds and some other kinds of seeds. I had tried others and they seem to like that one best.

Good afternoon. It is 93 out and I can barely see across the lot behind me the smoke is horrendous from the McKinney fire that blew up overnight. The fire is on the CA/OR border by Klamath Falls Lots of small spot fires due to lightning strikes. Fire is about 150 miles from me but the smoke is in my backyard!!!!

Good afternoon ladies,
Just waiting on the storm to roll through. Just got an alert for bad dust storm. Went out and closed up the jeep to keep the dust out. Patrick has been out and taken care of his priorities and now we wait.
Beth, where are you working now?
Well, here comes the wind, catch y'all tomorrow

Just got home from work. Not real busy this afternoon.

Looks like it is raining up around Palm Springs but nothing here, just some clouds.
Ava, don't those dust storms come just ahead of a thunder storm with heavy rains? I have been in a couple of those in Phoenix before. The dust storms we get here hang around for a couple days or more. And, of course, we rarely get any rain.

Got all the trash to the dumpster. Now to start loading stuff I want to take to the thrift store on Monday. Then go thru more boxes and bins from the shed. Amazingly, very little dust gets inside my shed even tho the door doesn't shut tight. I guess because the wind comes up against the back of the shed so the dust doesn't get blown inside from that direction. But it sure gets all over my deck and car! I must have gotten quite a bit of the dust in my living room when I brought the bins in to go thru them the other day because I just noticed that Romeow's paws are dirty! Will have to sweep and mop that area.

Romeow has discovered window blinds! :o He likes to stick his head in between the slats and chew on the string! I am removing the knots at the ends of the long pull strings so he can't get hung up on those. I ordered a Flippity Fish from Amazon for him. The one that flops around when it is touched. He should love that! I have decided that he is just a giant kitten! :o

He still has diarrhea so I am not sure what is causing that. I have him back on the food the shelter was feeding him, for almost a week now. He tends to step in it while trying to cover it up and then tracks it around the house so I have to give him a foot bath, which he hates with a passion! (I have the scratches to prove it!) . Then I have to go around cleaning up his dirty footprints! What is it with me with cats having diarrhea issues???

I need to get milk and ice cream but with this heat, by the time I get home from the store with stuff like that, the milk goes bad in a day or so and the ice cream is practically soup when I get home. I will have to remember to bring an insulated cooler with me into the store next time. I even don't buy chocolate in the summer (except at WM for when I am at work) because it is all melted by the time I get home.

Beth, I hope your new employees work out good for you! You need a break!

Have a good night!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Alice, I'm managing the motel at The Riverside Ranch in Hatch, Utah near Bryce Canyon. But I came in with employees that weren't working out brought in by the owners. It took me half the season, until now, to get them gone and to let me hire the replacements. I'm happy with who I hired but I need them to show their worth so the owners understand.

I never thought I'd say here that I'm wishing for sunny days again after we needed rain so bad, but it seems the afternoons are all thunderstorms for days past and days to come. I'll take it over the drought, etc, but still gripe lol

we can gripe Beth that is allowed ... however we haven't gotten any rain and we really could use it... :o
Shirl my dd had a neat refillable water bottle that encouraging messages on it like you got this stuff like that to encourage you to continue drinking the water... I find if it's in the fridge so it's cold I tend to drink it better.. that is when I was in the 5th wheel... here at mom's no excuse the water is in the door with the ice and do I drink it like I should??? nope!!!! one of the things that mom likes and we usually have it for breakfast along with cereal is grapefruit segments ( they come in a large container already to eat so no cutting segments out of the grapefruit) I love the juice it's so good so save it for later this week I've enjoyed several glasses of it iced of course  tonight I even put a bit of carbonated water in it just a bit was so good..
it was a lazy day to say the least a lazy day!!! but I did get another coat of poly on the treasure box..
and I finish another book so did get something done
feeding the birds is something that I totally miss.... what I found that the birds that came to my feeders was black oil sunflower seed... not the grey stripped they were spoiled  and niger seed for the finches... here we have hummer's and crows and black birds and magpies...I did put out a niger seed sack and did have a few but not for very long and couldn't decide what they were the bird's that typically go to the NIger seed is the gold finches... had some yellow birds but couldn't see them very well as they hid in the shrub with yellow flowers...
you all have a great day

Lazy day again here in the western side of the Rocky Mountains. Nice and cool with occasional showers.

Today I dismantled my old computer and destroyed the hard drive. I had thought about donating it and had removed all the data and software, but was worried about it being Windows 7 and also getting really rid of the data, so I just took it apart and banged up all the parts, especially the hard drive. It will go into the trash in the morning.

Otherwise, just reading and watching TV. Oh, also updated my UK blog with another posting on tips and then started to worry about my colonoscopy that I have to have in November. I am going to fly back to Ohio to visit son and family, but he will have to take me for Colonoscopy on Tuesday, Nov 22. It is always such a pain to have to have someone take me places and wait for me, but don't have much of an option. and then there is all that awful stuff to drink!!! Yuck. Wish I could avoid it, but I had a couple of bad polyps last time.

Sandi, won't do any good to change seed when there are NO birds around at all. Can stand outside and you hear no birds at all, see no birds, they have all disappeared. Seed I bought was made for birds n our area.

I just wanted to remind everyone that drinking extra water can affect your electrolytes. I've always been a compulsive water drinker and my sodium levels were too low. I was told to alternate water with other types of liquid after I ended up in ER one time and had to have a sodium drip. After that my doctor advised me to only drink four 8 ounce glasses of water a day and find other hydrating options to keep my sodium levels up. There are also little packets of electrolyte powers you can buy. If you have blood work done regularly that is also a good way to know if you are low.

Velda, I didn’t have any birds before I got the feeders either. Once I put them out there, it was only a matter of a few days until they came. Now there are many of several different kinds. The food has to be something they like.

Sandi, that reminds me of having several hummingbirds, refilling the feeder, one bird came and then nothing! Steven decided he had probably 'overcooked' the 'food'. :) I prepare the sugar water in the microwave now so no problems.
