Hump day wednesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Hump day wednesday

Postby avalen » Wed Jul 27, 2022 10:31 am

Good morning ladies, it's back to work day for me.
Hauling the teachers over to the high school auditorium for their yearly back to school in-service. That's at noon, but I will go about 10 to take time for dusting and socializing. Also don't remember how much fuel I left in the bus. Hope the mechanics did some catch-up last week and check all the ac units. At least it's not that hot yet.
Did a little checking up on the posting pictures thing, happy to say I've got it figured out!
Will take advantage today while I am out and about to stop at the store on the way home and get a few groceries. Finished up my ice cream so need more cream and condensed milk. Next time will be banana.
Have the trash put together so I can drop it off on my way out of the driveway. One big inconvenience living here is not having curbside pickup like the old place did.
I never see Tina post anymore, hope she is well.
Y'all have a great day, be safe

Good morning Ava and all who follow!
Romeow finally found his way to the living room last night and explored it a bit. I also taught him something tonight! I bought him one of those round flat toy with a ball that spins around the outside track. The middle of it has a cardboard claw scratcher. I don't think he knew what that was for, so I got down and started scratching my fingers across it like a cat. Now he is doing that himself! (Good thing he already knows how to use a litterbox!! :o  ).

Here he is napping next to me...

Good Morning, We had more rain this morning which is great. The grass is going to be pretty high though by the time it drys out enough for them to mow. I'm doing laundry, changing my bed and trying to fluff up my 3" wool organic mattress topper that is pretty compressed. I should buy a new one but the prices have, like on everything else, really gone up. My bones would appreciated it though so I may have to look.
Barbie I'm pretty sure you were a cat in another life  your kitty is definitely feeling at home.
Ava I hope the maintenance people do get all the A/C 's in the buses checked out. It's hard to believe it is time for school to start but it does seem to get earlier every year. We never went back until after Labor Day but we had very few days off for holidays or breaks.
This is the rest of the story from my post yesterday about the flooding at my brother's step daughter's place in O'Fallon, MO. She was in the basement getting things she wanted especially to save when suddenly all the windows exploded and water started pouring inside. When they exploded several pieces of stored furniture fell over and trapped her. Her nephew upstairs heard her screaming and ran down, turned off the breaker switch and got her out. It was really good that he thought to turn the electricity off. The water came all the way to the top of the basement ceiling. Since they are in a no flood zone they did not have flood insurance. It is so sad, so many people had their homes and cars destroyed.

Afternoon Ava and All. Not even mentioning the weather, what’s the point. Laundry on chore list and back to searching recipes. Searched for air fryer foil packet recipes. This lazy cook is in heaven, plenty of recipes. Won’t have to wash the air fryer, could eat off the foil so no dishes to wash. Lol Just kidding I would put the food on a plate. Shelia, thought of you and your Mom each having your preferred food in your own foil packet. I have fixed these in the past and put in the toaster oven but this is quicker. I have some German potato salad so will cook cod in a packet for dinner. Would prefer salmon but would have to hock my diamonds to buy it. I use to love cod fish cakes with potato salad but now too much salt for this Old timer. Be safe

BJ, how could they have all that water and not be in a flood zone? That is really too bad that they lost everything they had in the basement. And scary that she was trapped in there! Good sense of her nephew to turn the power off first! If no one else had been home at the time... :o

I have been around cats since I was born so I know them very well! I "speak" cat!

Barbie, you made me laugh. I'm glad you didn't have to use the litter box to show Romeow. I can't remember ever not liking cats. When I was in the first and second grade we lived on an Air Force base and couldn't have pets. We were in the same town where my Grandmother lived so I spent a lot of time at her house. When I was there I would kidnap the neighbor's cat.

My son had to replace the windshield in his car and needed the registration paper to get a new inspection sticker. I ordered a new tag for him in January. It either didn't come in or he lost it and needed a new one. It's so hard to get into the DMV he came to one of the title places in Abbeville that do a lot of the things the DMV does. That boy needs to get his stuff together before I die. I can just see him trying to take care of the farm.

It's raining again. The farmers are starting to cut the rice and it makes a real mess when the fields are so muddy. At least we have made it to the rice harvest with no hurricanes. It's hard to believe it's almost time for school to start again. I see cars at the elementary school on the way to town. I never started until September. We never had all the vacation days the schools have now. That's probably why the have to start so early.

The weather channel people were talking about a site where you can look up the possible storm surge on a map. The map shows that it could flood all the way to central Louisiana. I think it would take a tsunami for water to go that far.

Shirl, I'll have to look up the foil packets for the air fryer. I'll have to try cooking the salmon pieces like that. I hate to heat up the oven just for a couple of pieces of fish. I keep trying different things to hide taste of salmon. I don't know why I bought it.

It was a historic flash flood and in some places they got 13" of rain. Here is one article. https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/acc ... 2e5b6.html

Barbara, I truly believe you and Romeow were made for each other. Wait until you wake in middle of night to his slapping the ball around that track! Happens here still even though Stormy and her sister are nearly 17.5! Often it's Mylar balls flying down the hall in dark!
So sorry about terrible flood damage but so grateful that young man saved her!
Been to Curves, Treadmill 2.2 mi, and Squats and arms on Total gym.heading to shower.
Bit cooler here at only 96° and 31% humidity. Monsoonal clouds left a few drops here and there, not here, but so far have not heard of lightning started fires!
Have a good evening.

Cities and townships usually have flood maps available. In the township I lived in, it was divided into 25 year floods, 50 year floods, and 100 year floods. Only problem is that no one can really accurately predict floods, so it may easily flood sooner than the maps predict!! However, insurance companies base their rates on those maps. I was president of condo association and one small corner of one of our 5 buildings was in a 100 year flood zone, so they wanted to charge us more for insurance. We appealed and they agreed to move the flood line so we would not get charged.

Spent the last three hours trying to get someone to check and pack wheel bearings in my motorhome. No luck anywhere nearby in spite of quite a few phone calls. Also talked to my mechanic cousin who has been full-timing for 20 years and he agreed I needed to get that done fast. Finally, found a place in Golden, near Denver, and then had to find a place to stay for one night near there. Whew. All set for next Monday.

Got to remember to get out and get my little electrical heater out. Temps have been in low 50s and upper 40s in these altitudes so I want to use the heater instead of my furnace tonight.

DD came again tonight she had to work late so decided not to go home... was good to have her here for a bit...
the type of A/F that I have says not to use foil in it so would have to look into it... used it today to reheat fries they were sure good and also heated up some tenders.... mom and I eat mostly the same stuff she is just not eating well like 1 tender and a couple of forks of slaw and some fries... I wish heat hit me that way  although truly if I wasn't concerned about her getting decent meals an apple and cottage cheese would have tasted good... going to make Macaroni salad tomorrow again if for me tuna in it but mom doesn't care for tuna so it's going to be shrimp... don't get me wrong I like shrimp but in salad I'd rather tuna... I may make to bowls one with mayo and one with miracle whip just don't like that stuff... her preference need to go over that ticket for what I bought today it added up way more than I expected...
put a coat of poly on the inside of the lid think I will go do that again before I go to bed... and I need to put drops in mom's ears.... did find out a better position to put them in her ear she doesn't really like it but at least I hope that it is going down the canal like it should
it's hot here in the 80's mom's theory is that we are higher in elevation so therefore it feels hotter... I know she isn't dealing with the heat at all well this summer... I'm even thinking of put ice in front of the fan but don't know if it would take up too much room for her walker...
well you all have a good day
Judy good luck in fixing all that needs to be fixed... I thought that the tires had been fixed???

I got the afternoon shift today and it wasn't busy at all. I brought one of my proofreading books with me so was able to read thru some of that while I sat around. My first customer today was a little boy about 2 for his first haircut. He screamed bloody murder thru the whole thing! I am sure Walmart customers in the back of the store could hear him. I was only able to do the outline on the sides and back before I told his dad that I couldn't do any more without taking a chance on cutting him or me. He understood and still gave me a $15 tip!

I was getting some on and off pain in my right index finger shooting down to my thumb today while I was cutting hair. That is new. Felt like I was gonna drop my scissors when it was happening! Not good! :o

Romeow was doing zoomies across the house tonight. I have wood laminate floors so it takes him a bit to get traction while his feet are moving a mile a minute! Once he gets moving, he can't stop so he crashes into stuff! I was laughing my butt off watching him! Now he is on the bed watching "cat TV" (the aquarium), his favorite show, "As The Fish Swims"!

Tomorrow I need to go thru the stuff under the carport that I took out of the storage unit. I hope the humidity is lower! Without the humidity, being in the shade under the carport is not too bad. Hoping I can get a few bins packed up to go to the new storage unit and a few boxes to go to the thrift store.

Have a good night!

Tires were fixed, but I left out that going downhill on the road from the 12,000' Alpine visitor center when I left Rocky Mtn Natl Park, one of my tires that had the lug nuts broken heated up to 147. I can tell that by my tire minder. Anyway, that really bothered me, so this morning I called my cousin who has been on the road in a motorhome with his wife for 20 years. He pointed out that bad wheel bearings could cause that heat and might possibly have caused the sheared off lug nuts, although the most common cause for broken lug nuts is over-tightening them when tires are installed.

He is a great mechanic and even built a car when he was in his early 20s, so I really respect his knowledge. Getting wheel bearings checked and greased was something I have been meaning to do, so having to keep driving in Colorado over the next few weeks, it really started bothering me. And he even called me back to encourage me to change my schedule to get it done. So, I tried around here, but no luck. I ended up trying truck tire places nearer Denver and finally found a Camping World that would do it. Big truck places only want to handle commercial diesel trucks and smaller ones can't handle a Class C that is as big as mine.

Going to post update on my grey tank progress. Then going to bed!!!

And Barbie, my son's dog in Ohio always hears me coming in the garage door and races from the living room to greet me. However, she cannot make the last turn so almost always crashes into the kitchen cabinets because of the wood floors! You'd think she would learn.
