Sunny Thursday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunny Thursday

Postby Colliemom » Thu Jul 21, 2022 8:13 am

Beautiful sunny morning here at the 45th. 69°And no humidity thanks to yesterday’s cold front. Had a couple of nice rain showers yesterday which the flowers loved. No need to water today.

Generator installation is complete, so I’m ready for whatever mom nature throws at us now.

Going to run the vac and head to town, need a few things from the store. Then will work on last Raccoon later. Dogs are having mid morning nap, but once I get the vac out, that will change  So will wish you all a nice day.

Overcast and 59 here. Will be 84 today then we go into a hot spell in the high 90's. So far we are having an ok summer and keeping any large fires away. That could change in a minute tho so none of us get too comfy.

Congratulatins Barbie on your new furbaby. Hope he settles in quickly. You will have to let us know what his "real" name is going to be. Sue is all set for the winter now. That has to give you a good feeling.

On my first cup of coffee so maybe more news later.

Good Morning and it is good as the humidity and temps have gone down for at least today. It finally got to 114 degrees yesterday with the heat index. I need to head your way Sue! How long did it take for them to install your generator and is everything outside or did they put an electrical panel inside? The one we had that quit, due to a factory default a bit after the warranty ended, had a panel inside. When I inquired about a new one last year everything was outside the house. But the gas company had started making them replace the current lines to the house so they said it was at least an 8 hour job and we would be without electric during that time. Oh and of course the price had gone up considerably so I didn't get one. Every time we have bad weather I start thinking I should reconsider getting one installed.
I just brushed and combed Pippa out as I do every day and I found a couple of mats on her legs. Ugh she hates for me to get them out. I seldom find one and I always split it with my scissors and mostly cut it out but she does not like the process. Now I need to head to the shower. My friends I usually meet for coffee with on Friday have changed our meet up to today as it is the coolest day we will have for awhile. I need to get out before these walls close in on me!!
Barbie, I'm so happy you found the perfect kitty!

Good Morning, I agree, the map isn’t needed anymore.
Barbie, your new kitty sounds adorable! Lucky you.
My ggd loves Millie. She wanted to take her home, but I said no. I would miss her too much!

Good Morning!

Karen, I didn't realize you were still having energy issues. Scary. Judy, we lost a wheel off a 5th wheel once - consensus was the lug nuts were over torqued.

I seem to be over the worst of Covid - just occasional cough and energy starting to return. Finally started downloading photos from my camera yesterday. It was a great trip, but I was not prepared for the hikes and long days/short nights. I also experienced the square toilet in Dublin. :) Iceland and Dublin airports were a nightmare in several ways. I have never set off the scanner once, let alone twice! Dublin TSA was big on checking carry-ons. After all that, they checked my passport in Seattle and asked me nothing about what I brought back.

Weather reports from all of you are always interesting. We are in the 90s, but my apartment is cool. There are some 100+ days in the forecast. Brush fires and river rescues/drownings have started. Fire isn't near here and nearly contained.

Season 4 of Virgin River in now on Netflix and I've also started watching All American based loosely on a former NFL player.

Stay well!

Another summer day, another 103° by 5 pm! Fueled generators, along with lawn mowers, weed eaters, blowers, chain saws, any motors fueled by gas or diesel, are being outlawed here. With even use of natural gas in new homes outlawed, it makes back up generators useless. Glad at least some of you have options. They won't be allowed in RVs either. Such is life in CA!
Just be sure your generator is covered by home insurance against theft- yes thieves really are that desperate if they see what they want!
Fortunately the wind and smoke gods have been on our side, the predicted smoke never made it here. Lots of smaller grass fires but with agressive fire fighting and CA new night flying Firehawk choppers, so far, this year has been better, but many of our largest fires happen late summer and fall.
I'm going to try to catch up on paperwork and handyman wants to go to auto parts store to get parts for my truck.
Have a good day.

BJ, I know what you mean by the walls closing in on you. I would like to go somewhere but don't want to drive the truck. I could go fishing if it wasn't so darn hot. I am watching the weather and might load the mower and go mow. That would keep me busy for a while. I need to vacuum so should start the Roomba to pick up all the fur so it doesn't fill up the bag on the big vacuum. I finally brought the bag of clothes to the ARC donation place and need to start another bag.

I had some tomatoes that I needed to do something with so I'm making tomato gravy. Harold loved tomato gravy but if anything will give me stomach problems it will be tomatoes. Someone gave my son some tomatoes and he gave me a bag. They must have a big garden because there were 4 different kinds of tomatoes. I fried some smoked sausage and put all the tomatoes in and it has been cooking all morning on low. I probably should cook some spaghetti to put it on. Harold ate it with cornbread.

If I got a generator I would have to get a propane tank. We don't have natural gas near me. I have a welding machine on a trailer that we put up on the carport if there is a storm coming. I need to get Eddie to show me how to start it because it can be used as a generator. The generator in the motorhome has been working for a change. I run it on the way to campouts to run the air conditioner and refrigerator.

I don't know what good making everything electric or battery operated is. The power plants use generators to make the electricity.

Hello gals!

I have been busy cleaning my bedroom. The bathroom is too hot for the kitty since the AC doesn't get around the corner into there much. Also I need to take a shower so I decided to move him into my bedroom. He is now on my bed in his covered cube bed. He is so wanting to come out for loving but scared again of new surroundings. At one point, he started to come out of the bed but then saw his reflection in the mirrored closet doors and freaked out! He darted right back into the bed! So now I need to find a way to cover the mirrors! :?

I wonder what his past life was like. If I hold out my hand to him, he will put his nose to my fingers and as soon as his nose touches them, he backs up quick and looks at me like "why did you hit my nose??" So he is definitely hand-shy. Such a sweet boy, I can't imagine anyone wanting to hurt him! He has never hissed, growled or tried to bite or scratch me, when I go to pet him. It will take awhile to get him to feel comfortable with his surroundings. At least it is nice and quiet here. I couldn't imagine him in a house with kids or dogs. But he craves being petted, scratched, and rubbed all over, and seems starved for attention. He will get all the TLC and loving I can give him. He has a great home now.

I work from 1-6 today so he can feel free to come out and explore the bedroom. I will have his food, water, and litterbox in here for him so he should feel safe with the door closed and it will be cool and comfortable for him. He has a window sill he can sit on to look out the window if he wants, too.

I will post a photo of him in the Pet thread along with a list of names I have picked out. I want him to have a more masculine name because he looks so much like a female, I need to be reminded that he is, in fact, a boy! But I don't want a tough-boy name either. I really like O'Malley (from the Aristocats movie) but he doesn't quite fit that alley cat image, altho the colors are the same.

As far as weather, same ol', same ol', hot and humid, like the rest of the country (well, maybe not Michigan   !).

Have a good day and stay cool!

Hi ladies~~~

Been a few days at least so a quick howdy do. I've been in Maryland since Monday and the heat here is horrible just like every where else. No break in sight.

I did go to Gettysburg and Antietam Battlefields. Today was laundry in the a.m. and I'm staying in for the rest of the day.

Barbie congrats on the new fur baby. Can't wait for pics. Judy that was scary about your wheels. And Beth, I have no opinion on the map. Can't remember what else. :?

Stay as cool as possible and have a good day.

Got home a little bit ago. Am in my room watching the kitty exploring. I put a curtain in the hallway going into the kitchen and moved his litter box to the entryway of the front door (which I never use) where Lola's litter box was. That way it isn't in my bedroom and stinky  . He is checking that out now. He discovered he can hide under the bed now. Hopefully, he will jump on on the bed for some lovin's soon! :D

I posted pics and possible names in the Pets thread.

Was a very quiet day at work. Only did 3 haircuts. I think the excessive heat is just keeping people at home now. We have another new stylist. I met her today. She seems very nice and a little older (40ish) so she will be more dependable. The other gal that I met the other day, will hopefully go back to the shop she came from! My manager isn't too impressed with her either.

A firetruck just pulled up in front of my house about 15 minutes ago. My neighbor lady fell again. She skinned her leg but is otherwise OK. The doctors can't figure out why she falls all the time. She is one tough lady tho!

Barbie, your cat is very pretty if you can call a boy pretty. Good luck on finding a name. I have a terrible time coming up with a name. My orange and white cat got named Orange Boy. Not very original. When I brought Lady to the vet and he turned out to be a boy the vet named him Charlie. He doesn't seem like a Charlie to me but don't know what I would have named him. Harold said one time we weren't getting anymore cats and one showed up. I think he came in someones horse trailer but no one claimed him. Since we couldn't have anymore cats I named him Zero. There have been quite a few cats after Zero. lol One of my favorite outside cats I call Rascal. That is a good name for him because he is a Rascal. The cat I picked up at the campground in New Orleans has had several names. They were calling him Camper Cat and I called him Boots when I brought him to the vet. I was letting him come in the house to eat until he decided to use the bathroom in the living room. Now I call him Mr P.

it's hot and not humid  in fact there is a fire warning out as it's so dry and windy guess it's covering quite an area... the other night after I turned off the lights and was settling down could smell smoke just faintly think it was from some Idaho fire... I think is what I heard later...
went to the store Target got one thing I went looking for looked a pj's for mom wasn't impressed for being a new Target I am just not overly impressed with it... don't know if it's a smaller building so they don't have as much or if because it's new they are limiting what they put out so that if it doesn't work out they don't have a lot of inventory...
stopped at the bank for some check registers but the drive through wasn't open...
Smith's got what I could remember except the ham steak was a small one enough for the two of us but not for another day got what I remembered but then I forgot my list... haven't looked to see what I forgot...
then Wendy's wanted a summer salad thought mom might eat a burger so got a jr for her fries and a frosty wish I'd gotten me one... got home opened up the bag and only fries... tried calling them to see how to get my money back or something to replace it call the number and it rings forever and forever... then asks for some number... guess I will stop in it's not a lot but it's the principal of it..... I paid for it and should get something for what I paid for....
he is a cutie Barbie I am sure that he is going to get used to his new kingdom...
I saw a recipe that I wish I had copied down but was looking for a way to save it and then went to go back and it was no longer there... it was in a site called pocket... anyway the recipe is called butter rolls or just roll guess it's a southern treat... so you southern people tell me about it sounds easy even if I can't recall the recipe... a biscuit recipe rolled out then brown sugar mixture put down then a custard of sweetened condensed milk milk and don't recall other ingredients then baked sounds good sound like something worth trying if and when it cools down tomorrow it's suppose to get in the 90's we don't have A/C sister suggested a window mounted on but the windows in the living room don't open anyway if I'm here next year or if this heat continues it might happen sooner I want a light fan ...
well you all have a great day oh the towels finally got folded

Not a good day because it was a hot drive here to Rocky Mtn Natl park. Picked up few groceries and three prescriptions on the way here. Rv was hot mostly because AC in cab was blowing onto windshield like when defogger is on instead of through regular vents. Then I had trouble finding my site—drove around loop A twice!! Also, Only one water fill station and it was blocked by people buying firewood. :x

Anyway got into spot and turned on coach generator and AC. Made batch of soup—yes I know it is hot but it sounded good.

So while soup was cooling, I grabbed my two bags of trash and headed down road to look for dumpster. Asphalt had some pea gravel on it, so of course I fell on my face. Nothing broken but very sore bruised and scraped knee and elbow. Did not hit head or face. Two ladies saw me sprawled on pavement and came to help. It was hard for then to help me up because I kept slipping in gravel, but man in pickup came by and pulled me up. One lady took my trash and other walked me back to my rig and came inside. I was shaky so she got my first aid kit out and got me some iced tea from my refrig. That was really nice of her. She said she wanted to make sure I was ok and had not hit my head.

I took a shower and bandaged up scrapes and ate something, but my muscles are really sore tonight. In bed by 11 because of aches but glad nothing serious. Worst part is right knee had finally almost healed from my fall in Edinburgh and now it is stiff and really sore again. I need to be more careful but ladies said they had watched kids on scooters and bike hit that gravel and fall earlier today. So not really my fault maybe????

Cute kitty, but since he is a redhead, how about Harry instead of Weasley? (As in Prince Harry.). I looked up cats names in musical Cats but none seemed right.

Martha, I love the story about naming Zero! I also have a hard time with deciding on names. :?

I had some contact paper left over from what I put on the cabinet doors in my bedroom, so I used some of that to cover the bottom part of the mirrored closet doors so the kitty can't see his reflection. Lol!

I haven't seen him jump up on anything yet. I have so far lifted him up on the bed from the floor, and have seen him stand up on his hind feet with paws on the side of the bed or dresser. I have only heard him meow once or twice and it is a soft little meow. He did discover the window behind my bed and likes to sit there and look out. I guess each day will be new experiences for both of us.

Have a good night.

Judy, you snuck in ahead of me. So sorry you had a bad day and a bad fall! Ouch! Am curious about the end of the story tho...
