Off ToWork Saturday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Off ToWork Saturday

Postby Colliemom » Sat Jul 09, 2022 5:40 am

Good Morning. Just stopping by to say hi before I head off for work. No this is not paying type work, this is volunteer work. I’m going with a group of people into the trailer park that was 95% destroyed by the tornado to do some more cleanup. Cleaning up debris, branches, limbs, making minor repairs or prepping for future repairs and some other things that need to be done. I think they are doing individual properties that are livable, , that weren’t destroyed, but need help getting things back to normal as they probably aren’t insured. Or have some insurance but can’t cover the deductible. When Habitat steps in, you can figure it’s probably one or the other. This will be the second group that has gone in the past month so things are moving very slowly. Inflation, shortage of materials and insurance companies are slowing down the process all over town. Goodwill just announced that they are going to be temporary setting up shop in one of the empty stores here in town until their building can be rebuilt, which will take about a year. Aldi’s should be back open bye d of month, so the mall that it’s in, will be back in full operation except for glass replacement in some stores and other repairs. It’s the residential area is going to take a long time, because like I said things are moving very slowly. We also have a unique situation here that a lot of other communities that Are hit by a tornado and that is we have had a tornado in a Northern area that will be heading into colder weather and snow in a few months. So there is a little bit of an urgency here in that respect. Yet, it has only been a month since the tornado hit.

I took a trip to Hobby lobby over in Petoskey yesterday and picked up some craft paint and some things that I needed. Still working on my raccoons, although mine is just about done except for some touch up painting and a final coat of polyurethane before I put it outside. That’s pretty much what I’ve been doing this week, is working on that. Walking the dogs, finishing up painting the fence posts and the pickets for the fence I’m making etc.

Carol, glad to hear that Bill is doing OK and that it was just probably a panic attack. I know you both will to be glad when he gets past that point he has to get the tests done and can kind of find out what’s going on. Hang in there. Beth, hope that housekeeping situation gets straightened out. That is strange that they gave her that long of a notice instead of just firing her.

Well, I gotta get moving here. We are starting at 8 AM so I need to get myself dressed and move out of here in a little over 45 minutes. Have a great day everyone.

Morning Sue and All. Today more rain and very high humidity. I keep it very cool in the apartment which helps lower indoor humidity. Think it will be a pj day and going to make Italian Wedding soup for dinner. Carol, glad Bill is home and doing better. Tell him us old timers have to hang
tough as we are poked, prodded and tested. Ask me how I know. Sue, love hearing that our citizens are pulling together to help each other. Daughter #2 said she will have tomatoes and she will share. I thought not worth the drive to her house with high gas prices. Just paid $1.50
for one tomato at the produce stand so rethinking daughters offer. Lol. Going to spend sometime organizing and rewriting the pages of messy passwords. A nasty job but someone has to do it. Be safe

Our temperature is only 91 but the heat index must be over 100. I walked out to the barn looking for Charlie and sweat was poring off me when I got back. One of the cats beat up Charlie last night and I'm sure it was the neighbors tom cat. Why beat on him, he never messes with anyone. He's in ICU, the cage in the living room. Poor old guy.

Shirl, I'm from the generation of Rolodexes and have 4. Two of them came from my last job. One of them only has user names and passwords.

Sue, glad you are able to help with the clean up. Louisiana still has a lot of damage from Hurricane Ida. It almost completely destroyed Grand Isle. There is a state park there that we liked to go to. What sites they have been able to open are occupied by people that their houses were destroyed or workers doing repairs.

I have a concoction of chuck steak and mushroom soup on the stove. I probably saw a recipe for it but didn't save it so I'm winging it. Hope it's good because there is a lot of it.

Good afternoon ladies!

Carol, that's great news that Bill is home and felt well enough to drive and shop. Sue, I know you're happy the weather is cooler so you can get some outside things done. Shirl, I hear you on the price of produce at some stands. We are very fortunate that we have a Farmers Market here on Monday & Saturday. We just got back and got lots of fresh fruit and veggies. Martha, I like your idea of using the Rolodex's! Like you and Shirl, I have lots of paper notes in binders, mostly for Steve as he is sort of computer illiterate and in the event I go before he does, I want him to find things that he would have no idea where to look on the laptop.

It's 93 here in central FL with a heat index of 109, but it's summer in FL. As I mentioned above, we went to the farmers market to get mandarin oranges, apples, local grown strawberries/ cherry tomatoes and jalapeno peppers. We stopped at the local country store to get their fresh made sausage to make sausage stuffed poppers. We love those things. Today Steve will make a pizza and cook it on his Egg for dinner. Since tomorrow is Sunday, I have practicing to do. Have a good day!

Irmi, the local grocery store makes fresh chicken sausage that I like a lot. I cook it in a gravy and serve it on rice. I haven't made that in a while. My freezer isn't going down very fast.

Going to be 84 here today so it is still pleasant. It is hot if your outside in the sun. So I was brushing Emma today and found 2 fleas on her. Now we know there is most likely more. She has never had fleas before so I promptly researched flea treatments. I ended up ordering Nexguard. I order things thru the back door so it doesnt cost as much, even with shipping and no prescription needed. I get my Heartguard from them too $68 for a years worth. Will spray her with my dawn/vinegar concoction until it gets here.

Took out a small piece of pot roast and will stick that in the crockpot for tomorrow. I am trying to eat better as I still dont have a very big appetite. I do try to keep hydrated well. Since I have been sick in January to now I have lost 30lbs. Now I needed to lose about 15lbs. I think my constant cough doesnt help. I have an internal medicine appt on the 25th so will discuss all my damn symptoms with her. I have it narrowed down to Long Covid, inflammation of the bronchial due to scarring from Covid, and last early COPD. Altho my O2 sats are 93-97 not generally short of breath. I do lack energy and that really is not like me. I take Motrin 800 in the morning and at night when I go to bed to decrease the inflammation. Sometimes it helps and other times not so much. Also have a humidifier in my bedroom and a nebulizer I can use but dont very often. So we will see what she offers up.

made chocolate cake for my first born daughter's b'day guess we will it tomorrow as cake and dip is he favorite and two sister's and brother in law will be over tomorrow afternoon... maybe even granddaughter can't remember right now... so need to go and make some start it's been so long since I've used it and somewhat concerned.... we will hope
just a normal day went to a hardware store then grocery store... it doesn't take long to spend a lot...
it is good Sue that your neighborhood is still helping those in need and that you are able to do so...
we don't to my knowledge have any produce stands here although when I go to Utah I usually stop at some enjoy fresh produce... I love popper's need to make some see if mom likes them... I got some potato chips for mom as she was out of the one's she like (the salt and vinegar ones) I thought I was getting two different brands of them oppps not so same brand kettle chips one was salt and vinegar the other regular she scrunched up her nose when she first tasted the ones not salt and vinegar but did finish the ones she took I might send them home with dd's would rather have them eat them than to have them take up space and get stale here...
was going to make chick fingers in the A/F but had to make cake and I was just tired so I opted for a cold meal the summer sausage/ cheese/ crackers with a couple of raw veggies... not much of meal and now food is sounding good.... I am sure that mom will be hungry as well but I thought we would be having cake and dip later... that is what I get for thinking
think I will go make the start....
hope your kitty gets to feeling better that is too bad that other cats can't leave the old ones alone
my dd had a hope house and they had about 15 bunches of people go through and then a showing tonight it will be interesting to see what happens
you all have a great night

Biggest accomplishment Saturday was getting pick up out of the tight spot backed in near garage at rear of long drive, where handyman put it out of his way. Need to take for smog check, and did not want to drove it out without a spotter. Handyman came by to pick up stuff he left in drive, so he got truck to front where I can hop in amd take Tuesday for smog check. Now have to begin studying for my drivers test as I reached 70 after last renewal, now I have to do written test and bring stuff for "realID". Hopefully I can get an appointment in time and not have to spend day waiting at DMV.
Sheila, I know what cake is, but what is cake and dip?
Sunday is predicted to be over 100, so will probably stay in all day!

Velda, glad you mentioned the realID. I have to renew my drivers license in the next 3 weeks and need to get the documents together. At least I don't have to take a written test. After my cataract surgery I was able to pass the eye test without my glasses. My eye sight is not as good so don't know if I can pass without glasses again.
