Windy Sunday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Windy Sunday

Postby JudyJB » Sun Jun 19, 2022 5:20 am

Still windy today, but I am headed out in a few minutes. It's after 11 and I have been verifying and changing some US camping reservations, plus paying off two credit cards, and checking expenditures. I also organized my suitcase and took a COVID test, which was negative, thankfully. This island has had an outbreak, as I learned yesterday, not horrible but enough to make me more careful. Will be outside all day today, anyway, and tomorrow at 11am, I take the ferry back to the Scottish mainland.

I learned some things about flags on this island and posted about it in my latest post. Basically, Orkney has its own flag, which is very similar to the Norwegian and Danish flags, but does not resemble the Scottish or British flags at all!! Before 1649, these islands and the Shetland Islands belonged to the king of Norway, who was forced to give them to Scotland to pay a debt. And way before that, it was a Viking island. Many people here still do not consider themselves British or even Scottish, and prefer to think of themselves as Danish! Interesting, I think.

Sunday June 19

Postby Shirlv » Sun Jun 19, 2022 8:44 am

Morning All, it’s 67°sunny, breezy and a lovely morning. Going to open windows and door to let in fresh air. Received a picture of a smiling 10 yr. old great grandson who made the all star team. His Dad was smiling too. Happy Fathers Day to all Dads. Haven’t felt like cooking so will have another freezer dinner. I was thinking about reading books, you can skip over the graphic parts like I mute graphic parts of tv shows. I have been know to wear out a remote mute button. I don’t like commercials either. Lol will enjoy this beautiful day. Judy, hoping you have a beautiful weather day too. Be safe

It's 73 here at just after 9, on our way to maybe 90, with very warm to come by Tuesday. I have a RV friend coming by this afternoon to go to lunch, before she heads east over the Sierras, on way to see family. She visited a year ago , as well. She has a Leisure Travel Van, newer than mine and bigger with slides. We will lunch at nearby Chnese restaurant, before she heads east. I help her monitor weather as she goes. She lets me know her goal for that night and I watch ahead. Last year was her first long trip in "Lois" the LTV. She and her dog, Bitsy, will have a fun trip I'm sure.
I have church shortly, then will putter until I get word she's here.
Have a good day.

It just turned afternoon here. As usual I’m getting a late start, so not a morning person! Son called awhile ago telling me he might be up today to hitch the trailer full of bags of leaves to his truck and take them to the dump for me. If not today then maybe tomorrow. We’ll see, only been trying for weeks to get it done. It was top of my to do list when my car got wrecked. Procrastinating at its best! If I had known he might come I’d have waited to get the air unit in the window the other day. It’s been a cool weekend but more heat to come this week so glad to have it, more for the humidity than heat. So don’t have much planned for the day, just try to mow the back and maybe work on the front weed patch! Guess I’d better get outside and get busy. Nothing exciting to write about, which is probably a good thing! Have a good day and stay safe.

Judy, just read your recent blog post. I wondered when my DNA said 8% Norway and your blog gave an example of how that could be. I might have relatives on the Orkney Islands and maybe a speck of Viking dna. I feel fierce sometimes. Lol

We never found ancestors in Scotland... Or Ireland.. both of which we expected. Now it appears that's because they originally came from Sweden and or Norway. I've never spent time trying to prove it. But it sounds like you're in the part of the country they may have settled, Judy.

I'm happy that our winds are to start lessening this evening and tomorrow looks to be a great day. My fingers are crossed that the worst of the winds are over for the season. Judy, I hope they get better there also.

I just took some ribs out of the freezer to heat for dinner. I guarantee when the time comes people will come in to check in. Lol

More like good afternoon

Postby avalen » Sun Jun 19, 2022 5:39 pm

Wow, I got in, I can't believe it worked
It's been a very long time but life is good
Many things have changed in my life though and I praise the Lord every morning I wake up and see another day.
Lost my Maggie to an illness on Veterans day last year ( I was devastated)but was blessed with a new furbaby after Christmas. His name is Patrick.
Still driving a school bus until my jeep is paid for.
The motorhome hasn't had any miles put on it in two years. Hope to change that soon as gas comes down. In the meantime it sits in the driveway and I'm back in the fifthwheel.
Will try to catch and post more later.

Glad you managed to get back in. Quite a few people that used to come here have switched to strictly Facebook and I miss them on here. I am still here and enjoy the folks on here immensely. Lots of us are no longer RV'ing but we definitely still chat. I use Facebook much more than here but it is a different kind of platform. I try to make sure I post here most days also. Anyway WELCOME BACK

Good afternoon ladies!

I do check in daily, usually more than once.

We had a hard rain storm that came through after we got home from church and at one point, we were getting 2.75" of rain per hour. I only know that because one of the residents in our little community has a sophisticated weather station in his yard that reports to stations around here. We now have a pond in the cow pasture just off our back yard.

We had lunch with friends from church this afternoon and she & I are both walkers and she invited me to go with her to Ireland next year for a hiking vacation. She's been going for many years, so I have something to think about. I'm stunned she asked me to go with her. After seeing Judyjb's pictures, I'm going to be thinking long & hard.

We took a two day trip to see some of the sites south of us including the Bok Tower and Solomon's Castle. That was fun. Just a couple pics:

It's so good to see you! I'm glad you're back. I am going to merge this with the existing morning thread. Please come back more often.

Good evening gals!

Welcome back Ava! I often wonder about what you are up to nowdays! Sorry to hear about Maggie. So hard to lose our furkids! What kind of Jeep did you get?

As far as books go, I mostly read non-fiction, like travel, spiritual, paranormal, philosophy, self-improvement, and anything I happen to get interested in along the way. I think the only "series" I have read was called the Ferret Chronicles  which was actually very good. About 6 books in the series.

I love fresh homemade bread! I bought my mom a bread maker once (back when they were very popular) and she made bread all the time with it! She ended up going thru 3 bread makers over the years.

If I could only eat one thing, it would probably be potatoes. So many ways to make them and I love every one! :D

Today went pretty good at work. Felt good and didn't get too tired, altho I only did 5 haircuts all day. Tomorrow will be a longer day but I think I will be fine. Other than blowing crap out of my sinuses every once in awhile, and the headache from that, I feel fine. Did some shopping after work for a few things ($77 :o ). Tomorrow, I might stop at my favorite Italian restaurant and pick up an order of spaghetti. One order usually gives me about 5 or 6 meals, so will pack some of it up in individual servings to freeze for later.

I work tomorrow and then have 5 days off in a row. Need to get caught up on cleaning around here since nothing has gotten done for a couple weeks due to my SD trip and then being sick. Then get the rest of my organizing done in the living room and porch with my gourd stuff. Also need to get busy again with my autobiography. I am done with my outline and notes, so now I will start on the details of each "chapter" on my computer. Also need to get the aquarium set up and Karma settled in to that.

Irmi, I have heard that the Bok Tower gardens are beautiful! I want to see that when I get to Florida again some day.
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

it seems like to me that someone else went to the Solomine's castle from here but sure can't recall who...
was so glad to see you Ava really glad you tried again.... for awhile quite awhile I didn't even see you on FB was glad when I saw you there as well... miss so many of those who used to be here and wonder what is going on in their lives... saw that Laura is wondering around in southern utah and into colorado but moteling it guess that is cheaper than the motor home right now... but even some that I used to see on FB no longer do... perhaps they have gone on to other spaces...
a very laid back day forgot to ask dd what time church was and guess she didn't think to tell me so I didn't make it but did get my scriptures read and did some family history a bit... think I may have found a girl that I've looked for a long time... census had her as ella never could find her found a obit of one her sisters to read it and discovered that Bessie was still alive at that time as was George... well remember George but who in the world was Bessie so go looking going by death dates it had to be Ella so put in a search for Ella again and another family popped up with this girls name can't think of it right now middle name could have had Bessie derived from it and in brackets had Bessie parents name are correct year is the same as "Ella" and a death date for her which was after the sister had died... so thinking (cross fingers) that I found two of the family members... have had a hard time with this family ... so time well used...
had a really nice supper granddaughter and her boyfriend did most of the work with mom's direction... her first serious boyfriend...
you all have a great day
