Thursday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Thursday

Good afternoon all. I’m getting a bit of a late start to checking in today! I’m staying inside today since the temp I way up and I think the humidity is equal or higher! Forecasters are predicting strong thunderstorms later today with strong winds. Guess it’s some of what was west of us. I turned the rental car in yesterday so I’ll be without a car for awhile. Strange to not have a car parked in the driveway! If I really need to go somewhere I’m grateful to have Lola. Maybe I should just go camping for a few days! I have thought about it! So for the time being I’ll just stick around home and get some things done. I think Saturday is going to be a much cooler day so I need to tackle the weeds in the front flower beds. With the sun and just general heat from the road the window of time to be out there is short. Seems as fast as I pull the weeds s’more come back. I can’t grow much but weeds it seems. So not much else going on here right now. Hope everyone’s day is going well.

Almost afternoon here too., Just finished a bite of lunch and will make meatballs for dinner with some leftover mashed potatoes and some sort of veggie. I was surprised to pop in and nobody except us is here. Very unusual. Hope Barbi is feeling better today. We had some rain overnight but just cloudy right now with a high of 67... works for me. Nothing much else to report right now.

In Orkney now, specifically the second-biggest village of Stromness. I have a very nice room in a B&B and without even getting out of bed, I can see the big ferry coming in. This place is on a hill, and used to be part of a dairy farm, so it is on the edge of town and uphill, so I have a terrific view of the harbor and most of the town.

I was happy to be on a bigger ferry than the one that took me to the Isle of Skye--basically I don't like teeny tiny ferries that look as if they cannot handle rough weather. This one has two passenger decks and holds 600 passengers on two decks and up to 90 cars, fewer if trucks are on board.

And can you believe that tonight, the sun will set at 10:27 pm and rise at 3:59 am??? I looked up latitude and it is 58.9 N, compared to Oslo being 59.9 N. It is really weird to wake up in the middle of the night and see full sunlight! That assumes, of courses, you do not wake up and see more rain in the daylight, which is a lot more likely lately.

Sue, any results yet, and how are you feeling?? Shouldn't you at least call your doctor because of your flu/cold symptoms??

Guess I will make an evening check in today. Has been a beautiful day but still warm, about 85° I think. But the humidity and dewpoint are gone from yesterday. We had a high here about 91° yesterday and then that line of severe storms was moving in last night.By the time it got over this way the temperature had dropped down to 79°. It seemed like the brunt of the storms we’re going into the U.P. We did have a thunderstorm about 2 AM this morning, but it didn’t amount to anything other than just thunder and lightning and very little rain.. I kept my phone by my bed last night in case a code red alert came through. Our county has a special emergency alert system for the county that will sound our phones off if there is an emergency of some kind that we need to be alerted to. We all have emergency alerts automatically on cell phones, but this is a bit different in that it is strictly for this county only and gives more information than what the other emergency alerts do. Some people have questioned as to why Gaylord does not have tornado sirens, but the problem is, tornados are so rare here, people do not know what a tornado siren is or what it is for because we’ve never had to use one. And also because of the rural nature of the area outside Gaylord, they would not do any good for people who are outside the city limits like myself living down here and this part of the county. So the code red system was put into effect. Course if somebody isn’t registered, that’s gonna be their tough luck. Needless to say, there were a lot of very scared and nervous people and kids in town last night with this front approaching. People are still psyched out from the tornado and it’s going to take a while for nerves to calm down and some may never. Has been barely a month since the tornado struck.

O’Sharon, the weather you are having today is what we had yesterday and like you I didn’t do anything outside either. It was just too hot and muggy. So today I took a drive down to Houghton Lake and went to a craft store down there to get some craft paint, since we lost Hobby lobby for a while. Been wanting to go down to my favorite restaurant down there anyway. so I did that you and then took a nice leisurely drive home. Going to take the dogs for an evening walk here in just a few minutes. It has been extremely windy here today. The winds have been guessing 40 miles an hour, sometimes a bit more. I Needless to say the trees have been really swaying and small limbs andbranches coming down. Tomorrow we are only going to be in the mid 60s. Fine by me

Time to take the puppies for a hike. Have a nice evening all.

I ended up sleeping most of the day. Most symptoms are gone. Only sneezed once today, and no cough, altho I think I might be getting a sinus infection. I just still feel really tired and weak. My Covid test came back negative, so that is good!

I have tomorrow off and my manager said she can cover me for Saturday if needed which I think I will let her do. Not sure I can come off this illness to a 9 hour busy day right away. Sunday is a shorter day. I think I can do that with little problem.

Back to bed...
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)
