Friday June 10

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Friday June 10

Postby Shirlv » Fri Jun 10, 2022 8:27 am

Morning All, a pleasant day on the island. I started searching family in my 40’s and had some elderly relatives for reference. Sorry I didn’t ask more questions then especially stories. I have a huge ring binder of information and pictures that I have accumulated over the years. This was before all the information on line. Replacing printer cartridges last night was a disaster. Latest printer is very small but so are the directions in the displace window. IPad still saying ink low and then there was a paper jam. Decided I would deal with that mess today but not in the mood yet. Lol Shelia, thanks for the information. Judy, I did Ancestry DNA and am English. I haven’t bothered with family research since moving to the apartment so will refresh my memory with the the book. I have a lot of info on new great grandson’s mother but nothing on his father so will start on that research too. Having a case of the blah’s, don’t feel like cooking or cleaning, etc. I’m wearing my tee shirt that says “Give me all your chocolate and nobody gets hurt”. Maybe I need chocolate.
Be safe

It’s Friday!

Postby Colliemom » Fri Jun 10, 2022 8:32 am

Morning. Sunny, 56° Here at the 45th. Great working outside weather.

Shirl, if you live closer I would make you a Raccoon. I could ship you one but I have no idea what the shipping would cost. I spent most of yesterday morning cutting out some more pieces so that I can do at least three of them. Using up every inch of plywood that I possibly can as that stuff isn’t cheap. But I am getting quite a few pieces out of the one 2 x 4 piece that I originally bought. I now have a second piece that I can cut out some more. But it’s a fun hobby and I don’t look at the cost. I do break a blade once in a while so I do have to buy more blades. People love looking at them, so it’s worth it. I think that’s just about most of us have some sort of a Hobby on here, whether it’s showing dogs, painting, knitting, gardening or whatever and we all shell out some green doing it.

And Shirl. Speaking of ancestors. I have had good luck with a site called My Heritage for European ancestors. I have to trace my mom‘s side of the family back into Belgium. I know that my grandparents immigrated from Belgium, but I was curious to see if perhaps some may have come into Belgium from another country. But I have found no evidence of that. I have had really good luck with the information because they pretty much stayed in the same town so the records are all there. Think I went back at least seven generations. Should drop my ancestry membership for a while because I am not doing anything with that right now but I don’t wanna lose the information that I already have in there although I have made copies.

So I think today I am going to do a little bit of volunteer work for the Association and get the walking pathway cleaned up a little bit, do some weed whipping around the entrance and also water the flowers. Then I will get back to work on my wood crafts. It’s supposed to get hot next week again so that will be a good time to stay inside and Paint them.

No I will wish you all a nice day and get myself busy.

On freeway today. Just passed a sign of a towns name being “shi_bottle” and could not believe British named a town like that. But then saw another town sign where the “l” had not been turned into a “t”!! The artist did a very good job of matching the font.

Since it is Friday, I am seeing a lot of campers on the highway. More later.

It’s Friday

Postby Othersharon » Fri Jun 10, 2022 8:41 am

Good morning! Not much new or different in my world. Graduation last night for 2 grandkids and 3 hours of sitting on bleachers. Sure glad I have a chiropractor appointment this morning! It was outside so it was a cloudy cool and then sunny warm kind of evening but at least the rain stopped earlier so that was good. I’ve gone about as far as I can with the insurance company and have the rental car until next Wednesday but still no replacement car for me so guess Lola will become my primary mode of transportation for a couple of weeks. New car is scheduled to come in sometime this month but I’m not holding my breath! I can only hope it happens. Gas is over $5 as of the first of the week so driving Lola all the time isn’t what I want to do. I’ve tried to keep any appointments off the calendar until into July. At least the chiropractor has a large open parking lot but even the grocery store here in town will be problematic! Judy, been enjoying your adventures on your blog. It’s been interesting seeing the weather temps some of you are experiencing. We’re still having a few 80’s here and there with 60’s and 70’ most days with rain every few days. Not complaining when I see the hot and dry some of you are having. That’s about it for me. Not much happening which is a good thing! Have a great day and have a good weekend.

Mornin' Sharon & all that follow~~~
Fingers crossed the new vehicle comes in earlier rather than later. Fuel prices are ridiculous and I feel your pain. At least the truck is relatively decent in mileage, at least as far as diesels go.

Stopping at the outlet mall today with only one thing in mind, so I hope to get them at the first store and then head to East Haven for a bit of sightseeing on Long Island Sound.

That's my itty bitty. Have a good day ladies.

Sue, I called and had your woodworking catalogue sent to my son. He likes to work with wood and I will ask for a raccoon peeper for my upcoming birthday. Thanks for your thoughts.

Good Morning All, I just realized I haven’t posted for awhile. One bucket of strawberries has died. Other two buckets are very happy and healthy looking. I will be buying a tomato plant for that empty bucket soon.
Had to get some blood drawn for the doctor, so took Uber to lab. Worked very well so took another Uber over to see my latest Great. Yes, Shirl, the new Mothers are very tired. Although this one said it is still better than the last few weeks of being pregnant!
We have completed May grey, now are experiencing June gloom. I will be glad when the “marine layer” leaves and the sun comes out again.
I finished binging The Good Wife and now watching a spin off, The Good Fight. Softball season is over. Univ if Oklahoma had a powerful team and won everything.
Cheryl, when I was in Bar Harbor, my friend and I would go to a place that received lobster directly from the ship. We would each order a lobster and then pick it up after it was cooked. Eat it back in the RV. About half the cost of eating in a restaurant. I do like lobster.
My daughter in New Hampshire is dealing with a large propane tank in her yard, a septic tank, a well for water and many ticks!!! Nothing she had here.
I put a hummingbird feeder on my patio. Haven’t seen any hummingbird yet. Lyn

Sue, which woodworking catalog do you like?
It's gong to be HOT today! Never got below 71° overnight. At 9:20 it's already 90°! Thankfully cooling back into 80's Sunday.
I'm going to try to get to Curves within the hour, then come back and hole up with the AC! I'm looking forward to sun screens being installed on my east and south windows. Should make a 20% improvement in Stopping heat gain .
I did get my hutch cleaned yesterday inside and out and got about 1/2 the stuff I'm keeping, unwrapped and back in. Hope to finish that today. Am cutting boxes as I go, to discourage myself from keeping them, but am sure glad I had a bunch last fall when I needed to pack and protect all the contents of the hutch.
Have a good day everyone.

Lyn, I predict your daughter will be home before Christmas! The ticks are a particularly serious problem in NH plus I sure hope her friend knows how to deal with the septic and well. Plus hopefully the propane can be delivered in the winter. I can't even imagine going from SD to NH!

Sharon I hope your new car comes in soon! Sue we are headed to a lot of heat next week too, I wish the news would stop scaring people (like me) who dreads really high temperatures. Pippa has been doing so well learning to walk nice on a leash. She listens to verbal commands and will stop immediately when I say wait and will walk on when I say ok. Now if she could only realize she can potty outside! We also go for a drive every day she did a whole five miles today without her being restless and panting. She will be 8 months old tomorrow and still only at 10 pounds.

Looks like 3 of you all started an MC thread this morning about the same time! I am sure Beth will eventually merge them all. I haven't been on here for several days so I have some catching up to do.

Sue, I also love your raccoon sign! Wish I could get one for here. You all know how much I love my 'coonies! :D .
Sharon, what kind of car did you buy? (I must have missed a post on that :? ).
Shirl, love your "chocolate" shirt!

I bought a 5 gln aquarium the other day so I can have Betta fish again. It has a divider in the middle so I can have 2 fish if I want. I went to Petco last night just to get some supplies and look at the fish there. There were several dead Bettas, several who looked almost dead, and the little containers were filthy! I felt so bad for them! Only a couple of them were active at all. (If they are sleeping, I can wake them up by moving the container a little bit). I mentioned this to the check-out gal and she made some lame excuse why they haven't been properly taken care of. I got an email this morning for a survey about my experience and I let them have it! I still need to set up the aquarium and get it ready, before I get a fish or two. It will go in my bedroom.

I have 2 bites on my arm and haven't been outside! Altho I think I did see a mosquito at work the other day so maybe he got me when I wasn't looking! :o :o

I am starting on my autobiography again. As far as family history, I am not going to write about anyone past my grandparents since this is for my daughter and I am not even sure how interested she will ever be about my life, let alone my relatives or ancestors.

It will be around 112* or more today and hotter tomorrow before started down again. Lows are in the mid 80's. For us, this is fairly normal, for others it is extreme. Looks like the whole central and southwest are getting the heat wave now.

My car is being finicky again. The windshield wipers come on almost all the time now and I usually can't get them to turn off so I just put them on the slow speed. The door locks have been randomly refusing to open with the fob for a couple years now. First it was the front passenger door and back drivers door, then it was the passenger front and back door, then recently, just the front passenger door. Now all but the front drivers door refuse to unlock with the FOB or the buttons on the inside. When I unlock them by hand, then they won't lock with the FOB, which they always did before. Such a PITA!!! There is a Jeep repair place not far from here that I need to take it to to see if they can figure out the problems.

I was looking at my checking account on-line last night because it was overdrawn, and noticed that my home-owners insurance came thru about 4 times higher than usual! I need to call them today and find out what that is all about!

Our shop hours will be changing in July. We will be open one hour longer so we will be working 9 hours instead of 8 each day! Ughh!! We already are open those hours on Saturdays and I dread working that long. 8 hours is a struggle for me with my shoulder and sciatica and that extra hour on Saturdays I can really feel it. Not looking forward to the change. Luckily, I usually don't work more than one or two days during the week tho, anyways.

Sheila, I think my being tired all the time is possibly from sleep apnea. When I was in Arizona, my roommate said I snore really loud and then stop, and then gasp for air. I have my annual physical next Friday so will talk to my doctor about that.

I think I covered everything for now. Have a good day and stay cool!

Barbie, the problem with living alone as you and I do is that no one ever notices our issues at night. A couple of times when i have been staying with my kids, I have asked them to listen to me when I am sleeping. They both said I snored just a tiny bit, but no gasping or stopping breathing. I was concerned because my problem with sleeping is that I sleep during REM sleep and do dream, but then wake up about every hour and a half all night. Sometimes problems going back to sleep and sometimes not, but it did concern me until they checked me a couple of times.

Also, speaking of chocolate, I had considered bring a Tide pen with me, but didn't and now can't find one anywhere. Yesterday, I ate some chocolate ice cream and of course dripped it on my shirt and now cannot get it out!! I think stain remover will do it when i get home, but I hate to buy a big bottle of stain remover for just a few spots. Other item i wish I had brought is my back scratcher!!

Very tired and achy muscles tonight. Plus, I cannot find my bottle of Aleve, and regular tylenol does not help achy muscles and joints very well. Need to find a pharmacist and find out what NSAIDS are available here under other names. I passed one Covid test a week ago, so I suppose I need to do another tonight. I brought four, so have three left and can buy more if I need them. Very low levels of Covid here--much lower than US, but I need to still be careful.

Seems to be some posts missing with the merge. :)

Sue, I have cancelled my Ancestry subscription several times over the years. All my info is there when I subscribe again. Shirl, the Worldwide can be helpful, but my German records were often illegible. :) Lyn, it will be interesting to see how long your daughter lasts in NH. :)
Carpets were shampooed Tuesday - the one hour of drying time was a joke. Met the kids for Taco Tuesday. I had a short night Tuesday night for some reason so much of Wednesday was a loss. Yesterday I was on a roll and then sliced open a finger - oops! Blood stains on the clean carpet removed. Invited to the kids' for dinner tomorrow. Monica and I plan to detail the Sling and measure pants both of us need shortened - not sure the Sling will happen.

Weather has been a mixture. Certainly not the temperatures we had last year. Snow runoff has started so rivers are high.

We have panhandlers that are 'lip syncing' with violins and accordions! I saw an accordion sitting near the Safeway drive the other day and now I know why. Probably explains why the person was messing around in the bushes - hiding his music source.

Have a good weekend!

Just got off the phone with my insurance agent. Apparently the first billing of each year (June, in my case), they charge 22% of the total and the rest is in small monthly payments.

I just pulled some muscles in my lower back (while making a PBJ sandwich, of all stupid things! ). So I am in lots of pain no matter which way I move! Hurts to sit, hurts to stand, hurts to walk, and especially hurts to bend over! :( I sent my manager a heads up in case this lasts for more than a day. The last time I did this, I was in pain for over a week (and that happened while I was sitting in the dentists chair :o )! I took some strong Ibuprofin and have a heating pad on it now. So much for laundry and taking out the trash today, not that I was in a hurry to do either one.

I guess all I can do now is read a book or write in my autobio notebook.

Lyn, hope your daughter doesn't get Lyme disease from the ticks. My sister had it and it took a while to get diagnosed and treated. Some doctors don't think it exists. I bet life in NH is a lot different from California.

We have had bad weather coming all day. There was a lot of thunder and a shower abut noon and now the tree limbs are really whipping around. It looks like most of it will go East of here. At least it hasn't been as hot as usual.

I called Sugar's prescription in to Walmart because the last two time I had it filled they had to order it and it took 3 days. I need it for when I'll be out of town next week. I got a text that it's ready.

I hope Sugar doesn't ever get in a fight with a raccoon. They can be mean. She almost got another possum last night. It was on the brick ledge by the porch. She could smell it but I didn't see it because it was almost dark. I was wondering how one got in the back yard because I thought I had covered all the holes. The brick ledge goes all around the house. That's the cat's highway and I guess the possums can use it too.

Barbie, I don't envy your 9 hour days. When I worked for the fish plant we would work 4 10 hour days and have Friday off in the winter. It was nice to be off for 3 days but the 10 hours were hard to get use to. I have thought about writing some of the family history but my son could care less and I doubt my grandson would care either. Hope your back gets better. I don't think we are going to survive getting old. I can knock my knee out of joint just turning my office chair around.

Anita, I hope you don't have as much trouble with your cut finger as I have had from getting cut by the rose bush. I thought I might have to go to urgent care but started soaking it in hot water with epsom salt. I bought some jeans on clearance at TJ Maxx to cut off and make shorts. They have been on the sofa for a week waiting on me to measure them. There is a panhandler with a dog that hangs out at one of the main intersections in town. He doesn't have the dog on a leash and it makes me mad. The only thing I would give him would be a can of dog food. Almost every store you go in has a sign that they are hiring.
