Sunshine Wednesday Morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunshine Wednesday Morning

Postby Colliemom » Wed Jun 08, 2022 7:00 am

Morning everyone. Nice sunshiny morning, at least for now. 46° Clouds will be moving in later and a chance of rain. High around upper 60’s-70. Been cool here and we had a good rain Sunday night into Monday afternoon. Was way overdue.

Tornado cleanup continues. Some businesses slowly reopening, others will need rebuilds. Culvers is back in operation and donated 50% of their proceeds from meals served on Wednesday to the Community Foundations Tornado Relief fund. That has been growing by leaps and bounds. Goal is 1 million and I know they will reach it. Match challenges for anywhere from $1500 to as much as $30,000 are being announced every day it seems and being matched in a matter of hours. Even communities from around northern Michigan are sending in monies from fund raising. Neighbors helping neighbors doesn’t just mean the ones living next to you up here. Driving through the devastated neighborhoods shows signs in many yards of contractors hired to start repairs or reconstruction, dumpsters are sitting here and there for debris. Behind the scenes services are in motion as well.

Gaylord also responded to an interesting situation earlier this week. There is a lady who operates an ice cream truck in the city and county here during the summer. Remember the ice cream trucks that used to come down the streets when many of us were young and we had to go get a treat. She comes from Traverse City and moves around in town and also to events like kids birthday parties. She’s very popular. All last summer she operated in the city limits with no issues and last week she was told to cease and desist until she got a transient permit. Permit costs $200. She didn’t know if her father who funds this venture would pay for it or not as They are in Traverse City and she does make more money over there. More population, but loves the people of Gaylord. Well, one lady said she was going to start collecting pop cans to raise the money, was looking for donated pop cans if anybody had any. Well, that idea snowballed and within a day, she had the permit. Gaylord loves the ice cream truck, gotta make those memories.

No voting here till August. Just a Republican primary to determine who will run against current Governor who’s running for reelection. There were 10 potential candidates. But whrn time came to turn in the petitions to appear on the ballot, 5 of them including one who has been putting in appearances and political ads, were found to have fraudulent signatures on their petitions and disqualified. Two of them fought it to the State Supreme Court and lost.

Interesting about the birds in CA. Perhaps the best, fires and droughts may have them moving to more suitable habitat? Here in MI, bird feeding is being discouraged due to the Avian flu. It’s very contagious and is killing birds. It can spread from wild birds to water fowl and domestic birds such as chickens as well. So the less congregating the better.

Judy, hope the weather changes for you. Beth, glad you have some office help. Have you noticed a drop in guests with the high gas prices? Gas finally topped $5 a gallon up here. People seem to be holding to their summer vacation plans though. You find ways to adjust if you want to do something bad enough. Shirl, love your purple cane idea  How’s the gardening goi g?

Need to get in the shower and get this day moving. Am back working on woodcrafts, so will be doing some pattern cutting later. But first need to run to the store and also pick up a bit more pallet wood. Makes free wood for craft projects. Have a nice dsy all.

High supposed to be 60 today, and sun occasionally popping through clouds, but rain not completely finished for the day. I am headed over to the church cemetery to photograph more gravestones. Tomorrow I will head to county records office to hopefully find more information about two of my relatives.

I was originally going to head south at the end of June and stay in a couple of small towns and then drive back to York to return my car. I think instead I am going to skip those southern England towns and spend three more days in scotland--less driving and more relaxing. I will take train from York to London, stay there three nights before flying back to US. Now I just need to figure out where in Scotland I want to go!

Had a good breakfast/lunch of bacon, eggs, and toast. Got some chicken and potatoes and tomatoes for dinner, and need to try to finish as much of the food I have as I can so I don't have to throw it out.

I updated my blog with photo examples of driving problems here.

Good morning, Judy.

LOL. I was just beginning a long post about Urquhart castle, to suggest that you visit there - but I first did a search, and it looks like we already had that discussion!

For a trip down memory lane, here is my post:

Hope your trip continues to be all that you have hoped for - except the cold, of course.

Sue, there was a list the other day of all the permits and licenses a business has to have. I'm surprised any small business can open.

My mower is back but it's too hot to mow. The temperature is 90 but the heat index is close to 100. I'm not sure how they figure that. I loaded and unloaded some things from the camper and it's plenty hot. My neighbor is out for his walk. I don't think noon is a good time to walk.

I'm surprised that various departments haven't been here to check on licenses and make sure everything is done correctly. Someday I'm sure it'll happen.

I love most animals. That said, I've learned not to feed most birds in the desert as it brings the pack rats that eat the wires in cars and motorhomes, etc. Knock on wood, I've had no problems. I'd like to keep it that way.

Tomorrow I've got pick up orders at both Walmart and Smith's. Walmart is almost entirely, maybe 100%, for the motel. Smith's is for me. Tomorrow afternoon is the first time I'll leave the new person most of the time. It'll feel good to be a bum after I get home from the stores.

Did some outside work today, still cleaning out the shed and reorganizing. Will finish tomorrow, I needed to find all my water fittings and dang if they werent right where I put them ha ha. This afternoon I scoured the internet looking for a new primary type doctor. Finally decided on Evergreen Clinic. I have an appt to see the PA, the END of July.. I love FNP's and PA's as they spend so much more time with you, really getting to know you. They work under MD's so will bump you up if you have something serious. I am just trying to get established with a clinic here instead of urgent care, but they also have an urgent care component of their program. I dont really care if they are great or not as if I have something serious I know it so I can refer myself. Of course I will be keeping my Retina docs, and Rheumatologist in Medford as there are none here.

Pondering what to have for dinner, as of now I still dont know. I bought some chicken patties at Costco last time I was there..........YUCK I threw that box away. I like the frozen chicken patties but not these. I like a nice chicken pattie on a bun sometines. I love the Angus hamburger patties, they are super. I will find something.

planted the moss roses and geraniums today was going to take mom up to see my brother but got word from my niece that he just isn't up to visitors yet.... stays awake about 10 mins due to pain... hopefully he is taking pain medicine. He has never been one to take medicine well.... Since what I was going to do tomorrow won't happen I think I better do laundry...
did tell mom that we would go to DQ for supper though... then I hope on Friday to go get some plants for the containers possibly ought to change the days but oh well have ignored laundry for way to long...
dd and son in law went back home late afternoon hopefully there by now...
I feed the birds and never had problems that I'm aware of with chewed wires... perhaps lucky but I sure miss feeding the birds this year... I did put out a Niger seed sock but not seen anything at it ... have a yellow bird here that really blends into this bush with yellow flowers... in fact if he didn't move I'd not be able to see it ... looks larger than a finch but not as big as a robin
I started several years ago to write down the books I read.. so I won't reread them am reading a book they referred to a sister of the lead lady and her story so went to google and see if there was a book that sounded like was the one with the sister there was so I checked my list of books to see if I bought it and I did so I looked on my list and not read it... it doesn't sound familiar at all... so then I looked on the shelve with the right month and not there so either didn't put it in the right month or I've lost it so another thing I need to do before I hit the used book store in Utah....
actually saw a Aurora Teagardens mystery tonight that I didn't remember so guess if I've seen it it's not been a lot
you all have a good day

Martha, I don't know the complex equation, but I know heat index is a calculation using temperature, or predicted temperature, and the humidity. If its hot and dry, a person can perspire and shed heat, but if it's humid, it feels hotter because You can't evaporate perspiration to reduce body heat. so the index is how hot it feels and affects the body due to lack of ability to shed heat. The index calculates that number which says at this humidity and this temperature, it really feels like/effects the body as if it was this higher temperature. They rarely calculate that index here, because our typical hot weather times are our very low humidity times, and I've noted humidity in single digits:9%. With low humidity, and high heat, but Especially with breezes, people lose body fluid at a much higher rate, such that a 80° day with under 20% humidity, can result in dehydration and heat related injuries/illness!

They use the temp and the dew point to figure the relative humidity, and then use the relative humidity and the temp to figure out the heat index (the "feels like" temperature). Kind of the heat version of the wind chill factor which uses the wind speed and temps to figure that out, but still is the "feels like" temp.
