Mornin' ladies~~~

A rainy morning here in southern Connecticut. The dog was not happy with the thunder at 4:30, so not sure I slept from then until the time i rolled out of bed.

Got to see Peggy yesterday! She made lunch and I got a your of her garden. To late for a our of blooms, but bet it was beautiful a few weeks ago.

Depending on weather, I'll either stay in, and try to figure out route south for winter, or head to New Haven.

Morning Cheryl and all. Sunny and 56°. Chance of pop up showers next few days with highs in upper 6’s, low 70’s. Perfect.

Dogs and I have had two great walks past couple of days. Gave them a run in the woods on the snowmobile trails which Molly lives and has been wanting to do. Her favorite walk. Then around the larger lake over here yesterday. Took them down to the state park on Su day, but with north campground closed, it was shorter than we liked. Roof being replaced on bathroom/shower building, a new parking lot at headquarters and new wider road at check in lane for incoming campers. This work is being done by the National guard as part of a training exercise. North campground will reopen middle of next week, so in meantime, no walking that area.

Martha, as to that transcient vendors permit, it cost $200 a month which is totally ridiculous for somebody who is not in the city all the time. She is in town and she is out of town both and she is not parked in a given place she moves around. Most other areas up here charge way less than that. I would think that $200 a season would be a lot more reasonable.

What craft work today. Will continue working on my little fence peekeers as they are called,a and have enough lumber to cut out a second one. Also will be starting on my picket fence that I am making with pallets to put alongside my shed, but I am letting the wood dry out a little bit more as they were out in the rain before I picked them up. So I guess I should get cleaned up and get out there and get going. It can take up to an hour to cut the pattern out and I also want to put some primer on the parts I have cut out for the one I have ready to assemble and paint. Have a nice day all.

Morning Cheryl and All, I’m still drinking coffee and just finished watching my favorite YouTube “Garden Answer”. We had a real gulley washer last night so plants and balcony got a good soak. Sue, that little raccoon would be so cute looking through the railings on my balcony. Yesterday I delivered the Cobb salad to very tired young mother who bought my house. I passed the neighbors house who bought my rv. I wanted to jump in the Maverick and meet up with Cheryl. Lol Judy look forward to your blog and wish nicer weather for your travels. Martha, you have your hands full trying to keep up with mowing in between rain drops. My #2 daughter who is mother of tired young mother mowed her grass yesterday. Between new baby, beyond busy Dad, their grass was pretty shaggy. I fixed my own Cobb salad for dinner last night. I really want some pasta tonight but will resist. Porch Friend and I get take out from a local authentic Italian restaurant every now and then so I will wait. Will try to do something productive today. Be safe

Cheryl, I appreciate the thought but you will be in Western Maryland which is far away. Lol #2 daughter and I took my rv to Bar Harbor Maine and loved it. We are flat landers and walking the hills had us limping. The every night delivered lobster with her beer and my wine helped. Lol. Memories.

Hello Everybody, it’s afternoon here. Cheryl came for lunch yesterday and it was so good to see her again. The last time was in Savannah just as the Covid shutdown was beginning. She visited the Mark Twain house first and then came to my house for lunch. There wasn’t a lot blooming in the garden. The spring bulbs and flowering shrubs were long gone and the irises which were beautiful this year had just finished. I have reached the point where I can’t keep up with all the weeding, trimming, deadheading and watering. Enjoy today. Peggy

We are headed to 100° today! Glass Guru guy was here and replacing that single big square dual pane glass will be about $650, which is about 30% what replacing entire window with a new e glass vinyl frame unit, which would not match rest of house! Gave me both a senior and a vet discounts . Soon as unit arrives at their shop, they will make appointment with me to install. He said no way to know why that glass cracked. No sign of impact. Just complete unknown. Beng as its the inside pane of the dual pane and blinds hang in front of it, just a mystery. Melted sand (silica-sand-aka glass), has sure gone up. But, then, I have never (knock on wood), over our 33 years here, had to call a glass guy! We got very lucky raising boys in this house who had buddies they played with and never a broken window.
I need to finish my morning collagen and electrolytes and get busy on the hutch! Send me motivating vibes that I can get it all wiped down (construction dust) with Murphy cleaner, waxed on outside, and glass polished and at least half stuff back inside today! Then cut boxes to go!
Chris forgot to put his dinner dishes in dishwasher last night and start dish washer running, so I'll be waiting on spoon to eat with! Yes, he hoards stuff until I yell loud enough and he has to eat yogurt with a big serving spoon, before he finally gathers his collection to go in dishwasher. I refuse to pick up stuff he used as I consider the natural consequence of having to eat a 6 oz carton of yogurt with a very big serving spoon, a better lesson- and he did finally start dishwasher after loading his stuff about 10 min ago!
Well, I better quit procrastinating and get going. Have a good rest of your day. I'm still waiting on birds to find feeder! I did see a tiny bird in mandarin about 6-7 feet from feeder and bath, so maybe soon.,

I drove out to the Danby Beacon today, but have not downloaded any photos today. It is high on a hill so it can be seen for many miles around. This one is only a few years old, but there was an earlier beacon in WWII and WWI and even a couple of thousand years ago when people lit fires from a watch tower on that hill. Purpose was to let people know if there was an invasion of some sort from the sea, which is only about 5 miles away, by the crow flies. You can see forever from that hill! They lit it over the weekend for the Jubilee, but I did not see it.

Then drove to the county records office and got some help searching their files which include more details and a wider range than the published "Danby Register" which was put together by a group of people in the late 1800s. They went through all the local church registers that they could and compiled them into a several hundred page document with baptisms, marriages, and burials from 1585 to 1812. My problem is that it is wonderful, but does not contain any more recent information. I was able to find a couple of sources I can access remotely and also discovered no more information about Jane Easton, my mysterious 3rd ggrandmother. The marriage records for someone with her name did not match up and there was no burial records, so she must have died before or soon after going to Canada, or married someone there and had a new name. If she went to Canada, she no doubt went with her daughter and her husband and child, so at least i know where to look more carefully in Ontario. Probably will take a trip there next spring.

I did eliminate one "husband" that a lot of people online have accepted. I found out in the more detailed county records that the person who married that man was a widow and from a different parish. The widow information is important because i was told that they would have listed her by her married name, not her maiden name, if she married a second time, so it cannot be her!!

Problem with my graveyard search is that she is not listed as buried in her parish, plus the older monuments are all made of sandstone, and so they are badly weathered, and only about 30% even have a visible name on them. Newer ones are marble or granite--much more sturdy, but they only had sandstone around here.

Judy, very interesting about your genealogy research. I have traced my family back to 1700 in the US. I only have had a membership in Ancestry for the US. Is a international membership for as helpful? Traced paternal side to North Carolina but do not know how he got there. It isn’t like I am so busy I couldn’t find out.

You have done well to trace your family that far back in the U.S. I needed first a Canadian membership because all of my grandparents were born in Canada in the late 1800s and did not come to the U.S. until the early 1900s. And their grandparents all emigrated to Canada in the mid-1800s. So basically, before that I had to go back to England, Scotland, and Germany before to find any information about my 2nd great-grandparents in the mid-1800s and before, so an international membership was critical for me.

What you could do is upgrade your membership for three months and then work hard during those three months to find relatives in Europe, however, I will warn you that things like baptism records get scarce earlier than the mid-1700s. Just make sure you cancel it after those three months. Before 1700, however, most emigrants were English or Scotch. Can you guess from the names??

Some U.S. census records include nationality or place of birth, so you might find that information in the earliest US census reports. I have not used any of those because none of my relatives were here before 1900. I don't even know when emigrant records were kept here. There certainly wasn't an Ellis Island that early.

The scam callers have been busy today. I got 8 calls, all from different numbers, about authorizing a $999 purchase. It's too hot to do anything. It got up to 97 but has cooled off to 94. I could't think of anyplace to go today. I would like to go fishing. Maybe it will be cool enough before it gets dark.

Sue, your fence peekers are cute. You are right, $200 a month for a permit is ridiculous. I have no idea what food trucks around here have to pay but it must not be much because they are popping up all over. I have never tried anything from one of them. The one that was in Abbeville for a while was called The Cajun New Yorker. The man that had it moved it to Orlando, FL.

I need to make a sign that says Charlie's in the cage. Since he had some teeth removed when he went to the vet I give him a can of cat food every morning. Then I forget he's in the cage. He doesn't do anything but lay on the carport so it probably doesn't matter to him.

I am hoping that I am remembering correctly but I think the 1900 census gives both the land of birth going back to parents and also emigration year... like I said I think with out looking and now that so much is digital I don't have my paper copies with me to check and see... for you Shirl 1880 is also a good year 1890 if I'm remembering correctly doesn't exist fire happened so there is very little to be found...
got a couple of laundry loads done dirt put into some of the containers still have two to go but they are on the front deck and just didn't want to drag the bag through the house to do it ... tomorrow 2 more loads of laundry and hopefully go pick up plants... after supper thought that the washer was done so went down to switch loads and it was just dumping the rinse water I think but thought it was going into the spin cycle that takes forever!!!! I thought I will just wait down here at least 15 minutes later till it was through... and the cement floor was cold on the bare feet...
went to DQ and got some food... was going to take mom and eat out but she has had a sleepy day I think so went to get the popcorn shrimp but they aren't carrying it right now seems like they don't during summer time so got the large order of fingers and onion rings... and we shared them... both of us got full
Saturday my brother and his wife are stopping by and getting mom so I can go to Utah for my cousins funeral and time with family guess I am taking my 3 rd daughter's jeep and she is taking my mom's car...perhaps I ought to license the truck and have it over in Tetonia for when needed,,, although I'm not sure where it would be parked and it's a bit wide for me to park here and me to back down the driveway and with diesel so close to 6 dollars not sure I want to use it anyway I wish that they had sold it last year when I gave the whatever its called (brain isn't cooperating it will come after I post and have gone on to other things...) to my son in law really don't think they tried overly hard to sell it as used anything was in high demand but it is a two wheel and most want the 4x4 oh well we will work it out and if it's mine again then I will need to get it licensed and what ever my son in law said was wrong fixed... so hopefully I can go to Q this fall.. but first a cruise in Sept...
