Cool Friday Morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Cool Friday Morning

Postby Colliemom » Fri Jun 03, 2022 5:50 am

Good Morning. Cool, cloudy, 49° here at tbe 45th. Supposed to be. In low 70’s, which is normal, but Into 30’s and possible frost tonight. Will be below normal a bit for awhile after todsy. Normal is around low 70’s. Way better than the record breaking 89-90 degree days we had last weekend. Shirl, looks like you have that weather now. I’ll see if I can send you some cooler air,

Great weather for working outside. But we do need rain. I have everything planted that I am going to do for this summer so now I am working on the usual maintenance stuff like weed whipping, a bit of de debris blowing as trees are dropping seeds all over. Started taking some wood pallets apart yesterday as I am going to use them for a project. Ran a couple errands in town and visited with a couple neighbors. . Otberwise it’s pretty much the same old. We have a household hazardous waste day tomorrow, so I have a few things to round up for that and my cousin is going to be bringing over some things too. Some of the townships are also having a cleanup day, so she is going to be taking some stuff out to the waste disposal facility for that. The hazardous waste goes to a different area so we are going into different directions.

Gaylord is moving right along with rebuilding. Panera Bread and Culvers have reopened, Goodwill has cleared the debris from their parking lot and I expect them to start tearing down the building or part of it before long. I’m sure that Five Guys Burgers and Great Clips will be reopening soon as they can get windows replaced and cleaned up. Hobby Lobby will be coming back, but they are looking at a year time frame. The merchandise that was inside the building has been sold to a third-party and they are now in the process of removing what they can get out of there. The building is leased, as it is part of a Plaza and it is the responsibility of the owners of the plaza to rebuild the building, unless Hobby Lobby’s lease says otherwise or decides to relocate elsewhere. The building has been determined to be unstable and therefore is going to have to be totally torn down. Other two businesses that were attached to Hobby lobby that were destroyed, will probably have an option to move into a couple vacant buildings within that plaza that can accommodate smaller stores.

Headed to the residential area, I have not been around there since last weekend. Usually on Sunday after church I take a drive through to see what has gone on over the past week. If you wanna know the story, I found out yesterday that a lady I know in town was in her house when the tornado warning was issued. She also belongs to my church. She is 94 and she uses a walker to get around so she does not get out much anymore. She was not physically able to go into her basement so all she could do was go into a hallway in the house. Her house was in the direct path of the tornado. However, as it came through it veered left of her house, knocked the neighbors house next door off it’s foundation and destroyed the house next to it, leaving her with a broken garage window, a damaged garage door and some roof vents along the rook peak torn off  She’s fine. The homes are about or less than 50 feet apart. The Guardian Angels definitely had a busy day. The mobile home park that was 95% destroyed is in the middle of a controversy right now. The park management is having the destroyed and damaged trailers removed and the people who were in those homes claim they were notified that this was going to be done and they were not given sufficient time to remove their personal stuff if they can find it. Some of them have been hospitalized and are still hospitalized. Looks like it may be turning into a legal battle and two TV stations up here have launched investigations into it. Plus some calls made to the State Attorney General’s office. Going to be interesting to see how it plays out.

So I guess I should get up and have a little bite or something to eat and run the vacuum in the house later. Not sure what I’m going to get into today, I have a number of things I can choose from.

Gas prices have dramatically wasn’t here this week. When the tornado hit town we only had one gas station operating at our local Meijer store. At that time the gas price was at $4.55. Meyer decided to help the community out, especially with all of the volunteers who are coming in with their personal vehicles and trailers and chainsaws, emergency responders etc. and dropped their price to $4.29. When the power was restored and Walmart reopened on Monday after the tornado, they followed suit and as the week progressed the rest of the gas stations in town also came down to an average of $4.39. But all good things must come to an end and yesterday the prices were readjusted to $4.77 and later up to $4.99.

So that is the latest news from the 45th parallel. Judy, I’m glad to hear that your knee is doing better and I hope you got that crazy GPS straightened out. Martha hope that you got the AC fixed. Have a nice day and stay safe All.

Good morning, after a couple of pretty warm days we are in a cool down and expecting some rain for Saturday and Sunday which is good for all my newly planted plants. Today some inside housekeeping, laundry and some vacuuming and dusting. Pondering what to fix for dinner, not sure yet.

I need to go over to the Plant Warehouse and get a few geraniums and Marigolds to replace the ones from last year so might do that today. Next week I need to trim my lace leaf Maple tree as it is now almost touching the ground so it definitely needs a summer cut.

Time for second cup of java and pretty soon some breakfast so I can start my day.

Morning All, survived big storm last evening and a little cooler today. Spent all morning trying to think of something to post without success. Got a haircut yesterday and in for the weekend. Saw a recipe for chicken salad with grapes, pecans and shredded sharp cheese that sounded good. Will use the half of rotisserie chicken in the freezer and maybe add a strip of bacon. Served on a bed of romaine will make a nice summer dinner. Another boring weekend but I am comfortable and safe. Be careful

I am letting the cat out of the bag... :D But first some pics from Lyn's place...

The view from Lyn's deck. The pool she spends her mornings at...

Lyn's strawberry plants...

The new chairs and table for Lyn's deck. The chairs are super comfy! Catherine and I put the little table together for her.

Meet Millie! Lyn's new little companion! Doesn't eat much, doesn't use a litter box and won't damage the carpet or furniture! :D

Barbara, thanks for the photo update on Lyn!
It's warm here, but only low 90's, so, no where near HOT. Humidity quite low by most afternoons , in low 20's, but, at moment it's 77° and 49% stupidity level, as my dear father in law used to say. Staying in this temp range for few days.
Chiropractor helped, but still sore and stiff. Will do Curves in a bit, as it helps me loosen up.
I have a high school kid in neighborhood, who wants to earn extra $, and who finished the school year yesterday, so will be arranging for his assist to finish my kitchen declutter and cleaning/dusting of cupboards and shelves. Depending on my pain level, I hope to do final polish of inside my hutch and begun putting stuff back.
No other notable plans for now. Have a good weekend everyone.

Yesterday I just layed low and took naps all day. Was worn out from the busy week and long drive home.

Today, I am working on finishing the cat thunder gourd for my cat sitter. I have sanded the bottom edge already to remove the old glue and make it all even to put on a new piece of mylar. I have new, better glue this time so hopefully it will be successful this time. Then I need to repaint some areas that I had to sand off some glue (it was very liquidy and ran all over!). Hope I can get it done today finally!

It is hot here today, I think will be over 100*. Feels a little humid (stupid  ) as well.
Back to work tomorrow and then have Sunday off. Will do laundry then and wash the bedbug stuff.

I have to rearrange some things in order to put my new tables on the porch. They will go against the whole back wall which will be nice and give me lots of room for storage underneath and on top, plus a good workspace. Still have some work to do in the living room but most of what is left in there is gourd stuff that needs to be organized and put in bins and labeled containers.

Judy, I got caught up on your blog. The intricate architectural detail of those buildings is amazing and to think that was all done many hundreds of years ago by hand! Stay safe!

Left motel late this afternoon and headed for the home and museum of Jim Wright, who was the real "James Harriot, and wrote the books about his life as a vet in Thirsk, North Yorkshire. It was just about a mile from my hotel, so not too bad a drive! The hard part was figuring out the prepay machine in the car park nearby. A kindly lady helped me, but even she had trouble.

Then on to the nearby Super Tesco to pick up some groceries for my week at the cottage I have rented in Danby, which is where my 2nd g-grandparents lived and were married. It took me a long time to find things in the grocery store because they were not organized quite the way I am used to it. I got some frozen stuff, and a minimal of other things I would need.

I did not trust the car GPS, so used both it and my cell phone and compared both. It did OK, although there were some minor differences. The biggest problem was that today was the 2nd day of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee--think 4th of July and Labor Day all rolled into one. No school and most businesses closed meant lots of families on the road and big parties, even in tiny towns, so lots of roads closed. Luckily, the detours were well-marked.

The other good thing about today was that I was driving mostly in the country, so less traffic., but still a lot for these very narrow roads. A big problem was that there were a lot of biking events in the North Yorkshire Moor I drove through, and the sheep did not know it was a good weekend to stay off the roadways!!

Barbie, thanks for the picture of Lyn and her new pet. I need pets like that.

It started storming last night and I got an inch and a half of rain. It rained a little while this afternoon but not a lot. My yard needs mowing again and now it's too wet.

I picked up my motorhome this afternoon. It wasn't the air conditioner. They said the main breaker was weak so they changed that and put a vent panel in the compartment the electrical is in. They thought it was too warm in there. I have only been complaining about the main breaker tripping too often for several years every time I brought the motorhome in for something else. They don't know where the black that was on the a/c filter could have come from. I will be camping with a BIG fan until I'm sure it's fixed. I might go to the lake a couple of days next week. My sister has been wanting to go.

Tomorrow night there is a Jambalaya Supper and Dance put on by the Cattlemen. I don't know if I'm going or not. I went to one a couple of years ago and not that great.

I usually watch the late night shows after the news. I know I have a short memory but they keep showing the same shows over and over.

I actually didn't spend a lot of time on the phone today and actually did a couple of housekeeping things.. probably got off the phone because it was really slow on FB not showing pictures ect... not sure what the issue was but I did get something else done
finally got all taken out of my Swedish weave that I needed to take out and working on adding a row to finish the diamond hopefully this time I am doing it correctly
So even though I did do something I haven't a lot to comment on
got word from my cousin (the sister of my cousin that just passed away) telling me that one of her sister's son had passed away she didn't tell me the day but assume yesterday or even today.. what a shock for the family... it seems like we go on with our lifes and sometimes we don't see family as much as we would like I have probably met him but really don't know him ... still sad for my cousins..
you all have a great day

Sheila, I'm so sorry for the losses in your family.

Martha, don't you wish they'd listen to you when you tell them your problems. Or sounds like you would have had the AC problem fixed if they had. Or should I say the non-existent ac problem?

I, too, love the pictures Barbie... Especially of Lyn with her new cat. Lyn, have you named her (or him) yet? And I think you need to send that picture to your daughter. :D

Time for sleep here. Everyone take care.
