Sunday May 29

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunday May 29

Morning All, 71° sunny with low humidity. Family is having a cookout. Traffic hasn’t been bad so far I guess gas prices has been a deterrent. Read Judy’s blog and am amazed at the talent and work it must have taken to build Westminster Abby. Sharon, I hate car shopping although I bought my Subaru sitting in the recliner. Not sure what the day has in store so will wait and see. Bee safe

It was amazing to see the roof of the abbey from the inside top level. It is wood that is a couple of hundred years old but it is not the original. They are offering a very few roof walks this summer but they are all sold out. They had an animation showing how they built the first abbey over an even older building and how they replaced this second version a section at a time over 200 years. Fascinating.

Was on a high speed train to Edinburgh this afternoon but technical
Issues made us all get off in York and switch to regular train. So the British trains DO NOT always run on time!!!

Good afternoon friends!

On our way home from church, we stopped at the grocery store to take advantage of the Memorial Day sales and bought lots of meat. After dividing everything and putting them in the freezer, we still have room, so will go out and take advantage of the last sale day. Steve made a couple of excellent pizzas on his Egg last week, so we're starting to stock up on the fixings for another pizza and other meals. Our tomato plants and green onion plants are coming along as well in the pergola. I got a packet of seeds that were given out at a Memorial service I played for and planted them as well. They're starting to sprout as well. I may have to divide those into more pots.

Enjoy the rest of the Memorial weekend!

Kind of a chilly start this morning, cloudy and off and on light rain. Sun is out now. I now have 12 bags of Kellogg pottting soil unloaded from my car, Already have compost, fertilizer, and mulch. So it is still a bit windy out so will probably plant the rest tomorrow. Need to fill my containers then get the squash and strawberries planted. Cleaned the bathrooms this morning and that sums up my morning. Now fixing a mocha and sitting down for a while. I am staying home this weekend puttering. I want to find a movie to watch this afternoon. I have started a couple but they were not to my liking so hope I have better luck today. Having salmon, fresh beets and potato salad for dinner. Easy peasy.

I posted a picture on FB two nights ago of a plate of food a young couple staying here brought me (steak and rice). Last night they made a gigantic calzone ( maybe 8x12) and brought me a big square from it. That was lunch today. Then at continental breakfast they brought me a bunch of things, including a half dozen eggs and a good cooler, that they said needed a new home as they're heading to Vegas today with their flight home tomorrow. He's an excellent cook on the bbq and I'll miss them for many reasons.

I know I'm working to much and tired all the time. But I love the guests, almost all of them. I wish I could say that about the others who work here. At least I can about a couple. And there's a good chance we'll have another couple joining us later this week and then after I train one of them I'm going to start getting my days off.

Karen, you mention chilly and I'm seeing the possibility of temps going below freezing again. I thought we'd gotten past that but I guess June has to have her hand in the cold before we stop seeing these temps for awhile.

Irmi, I'm not accustomed to meat on sale for Memorial weekend. I'm almost tempted to see if the grocery store in Cedar City does that. But I don't think I want to drive over the pass etc to join the crowds on the holiday. It would be tempting if I knew they had a good sale like that, though.

Lots of rooms to check in. None have arrived yet. We had all but a couple rooms check out today and are filling them up again tonight. Same will happen tomorrow, well as far as check outs. Not as many coming in though.

Hoping to sleep in tomorrow.

Just updated blogs for my last two days. I am trying to post fewer photos and write more about my experiences good and bad. For example, on today's post, I admitted waiting in the taxi line at Edinburgh station for five minutes until I checked my cell phone and found out the hotel was only 600 feet away! Getting into a cab for that distance would have been really embarrassing, so I was glad no cabs came.

Also, my train to Edinburgh was a bit late getting in tonight because we had to switch trains due to technical difficulty. Train company refunded half of my fare!! Can't imagine U.S. airline companies doing THAT!!! And I will get it in 5 days.

I didn't do much today, not even cook. I had chicken stew for lunch and a Walmart frozen Butter Chicken dinner tonight. Their Butter Chicken isn't as good as a restaurant but not too bad. I'm getting enough of the chicken stew and I have one more serving. I might freeze it and take some ribs out to cook tomorrow. I went fishing for a couple of hours and caught some perch that would have been big enough to clean. One of these days I'm going to get one of the portable cleaning tables. I was surprised there weren't any mosquitoes after all the rain.

I mowed a few passes at the bottom of the hill but there is still an area that is too wet. It's hard to imagine anyone having freezing weather when we are in the 90's. It has been getting into the 60's at night so the mornings are nice.

I haven't checked the grocery ads to see if meat is on sale. I don't know what I would do with it because the freezer is full. I'm not doing very good at getting it down. I have a package of frozen salmon pieces. I don't know why I bought salmon because I don't like it. I don't know what seasoning I could use on it.

Good evening!

When I left for work this morning, I could barely see across the street! I couldn't see the casino at all. The road out in front was completely covered in swirling sand! Saw some trees down on the way and in the parking lot of WM. The shop is about 50 feet inside of WM from the front doors and we had dust and sand coating everything in the shop! The computer screens were even covered in dust! The floors we had to sweep every hour or so to keep the dust and sand under control! The power here at home has been going out off and on since this morning. Was off when I got home from work but came back on an hour later. Lights are still flickering occasionally.

It is still blowing hard out there now but supposed to let up over night. I sure hope so! I don't want to be driving in those kinds of winds tomorrow! I will probably have to keep my air purifier on high again tonight to drown out the winds again. I can still hear them roaring out there! :o

The BBQ party was moved into one of the clubhouses here tonight. There were at least 60 people that showed up. Most of whom I didn't know. Those I did know didn't know the rest either. Lots of new owners here. One lady had everyone take turns standing up and introducing themselves. Most were new in the park in the past year. I met a new couple at the table I was at who seem very nice and close to my age. Seems a lot of the new owners are in their 50's and 60's.

Now I am finishing up packing and need to write down the directions to my motel rooms, and Lyn's address so we can find her on Wednesday.

Judy, I will have to get caught up on your blog sometime this week. Sounds like you are keeping busy tho!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

it's been a busy day after 11 and am just getting on
went to the cemetery and filled vases and distributed them... didn't have water at first then we did but remembered later that the first two vases we put out didn't get water in them... that is so irritating my fault totally forgot but it was also some more expensive bouquet that I got for Larry's grave and my dad's it's been raining and chilly so they will be ok for awhile just won't last as long as they should have
started really raining just as we were finishing up glad it held off...
we went to one of my dd's and had hamburgers and hot dogs and stuff like that... because we didn't plan it we had not the typical things that we would have... but it all tasted good
the better part was being together as a family ... then we visited with my son for a bit they looked into getting a jazzy for me for the cruise think it might be a good idea I still need to go get the walking sticks that I want and to start walking some... we will see if that actually happens...
you all have a great day
