Rainy Thursday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Rainy Thursday

Postby Colliemom » Thu May 26, 2022 7:19 am

Good Morning. Yep, the rain has moved east. Much welcomed as we haven’t had rain here, other than a light shower that barely wet the deck in almost a month. This is good ground soaking type rain.

Cleanup and assessments continue in town and the area. Thanks to the efforts of over 1500 people, not counting those who just showed up and weren’t in the United Way volunteer list, plus members of the community, including those affected, the major cleanup of vegetative debris (trees etc.) is done, the biggest majority over the two days of the weekend and far as I know, all homes with roof/window and whatever else damage etc. have been boarded or tarped over agsinst the weather. One lady did post yesterday that as a single mother of two teenager girls, she had roof damage and was asking for help to get it tarped before the rains came. One of the local roofing companies responded and took care of it for her. This was at no charge, which has been the case with a lot of companies and work crews who came to help. . It is at a point now where it is pretty much up to insurance companies to assess the damage and make arrangements to get the other type of debris removed from properties. I responded to a post yesterday for help to clean up vegetative debris from our yard which I think was the last one that had to be done. When I got there there were about a half a dozen women, true who had trucks with trailers with them and a couple of men who are change sign trees that had to come down. Not long after I got there some more people showed up and then some men came with a couple more trucks and trailers and one with a tractor and bucket scoop and when school got out, about 4 high school boys came over, plus the Sheriffs work camp crew. . Within a period of about 2 1/2 hours or so we had the yard pretty much all cleaned up when it started to rain. A couple of people who were helping had driven from 2 hours away just to help for the day. There is still a little bit of stuff that have to be cleaned up, mostly logs from the cut up trees, it’s manageable. The lady who owned it said not to worry about i. she didn’t want anybody getting sick on her account because it was starting to rain. She was much appreciative of our help. Her house and garage heading that Manhattan by the tornado but they did have a little bit of damage on that one corner of the garage. But my neighbors house behind him with math so fortunate and the garage or actually it was the shed which is about the size of the garage is actually setting up On end in the yard next door. About a block or left behind that there is a home and has been totally and completely destroyed and is nothing but a pile of kindling. So now I will wait and see if they need help anywhere else. As I stated Above, it’s going to be up to the insurance companies. We cannot go in on property to remove debris at this time. If later down the line they need help loading dumpsters or something like that then I will go back in and help again. Both the State and FEMA are here assessing the situation for Stdte and possible federal aid. There has been such and outpouring of donations from all over the Stdte from clothing to toys and everything in between that They are actually asking to stop donating for now. Gift cards are the suggested donation for now till they get a better idea of future necessities. We had a prayer service at my church last night for the community. One man who is from Gaillard and had moved out of the area for a few years and was living in Kansas and is now back here, said that he has helped with tornado cleanup any number of places in both Kansas and Oklahoma and other areas. He said most of the places that he has gone to has been filled with a lot of despair in Chaos. He said that he is just totally amazed at how this community just pulled together and went to work. And I do have to say there is a tremendous amount of community pride here right now. It was definitely a boots on the Ground effort. There has been a slogan here for a number of yours called Gaylord strong and one of the T-shirt companies here that manufactures T-shirts with that slogan and selling them, with 100% of proceeds goi g to the Community Foundation for tornado relief.

I was eating dinner tbe other night, when I bit down on something hard and think I may have lost a crown or filling. Darn. And my dentist office is closed this week. But tbere is an emergency number to call. I really hate to bother him, because he’s 89 year old widowed father’s house was totally destroyed in the tornado and it is one of the reasons why the office is closed this week among some issues with their electronic emailing another information stuff due to the power outages and everything. Ironically for some reason only known to God perhaps, his father decided that morning, the dsy the tornado hit, to go to the UP to visit his daughter. They have no idea what prompted him to do it but it probably saved his life.

So I guess I had better get going here because I have a hair appointment at 10:30 and I will call the dentist and see what to do with the situation. I might be able to let it go until I open next week but maybe not. We’ll see what he says. So I am hoping that all of you have a wonderful day.

Morning Sue, and All. Still cloudy and more rain this weekend. A good weather day for me to take walk outside. Sue, happy to hear community is working to restore your area. It’s graduation at the US Naval Academy and I could hear the Blue Angels flying yesterday. Usual housekeeping chores and talking to plants for today. Judy, enjoying your blog. Be safe

Sue, glad your community is getting help to clean up. I'm not looking forward to the next 4 months. Just hope we can skip a year of hurricanes.

I had received a letter from the Dept of Agriculture asking questions about the estate and wanting copies of tax returns. I wrote them a letter and started copying the returns, 36 pages. I figured I would run out of printer ink before I got through and I did. Had to go to Walmart for ink and of course spent $100 and that didn't include the ink. I have been thinking about ordering printer ink for several months but that didn't get done. Then back to town to bring the papers. I will be glad when I'm done with them but I'm sure I will hear from them again. I should have gone to town in the truck and picked up more mulch and gas for the mower but I didn't think about that until I was in town.

It looks like we have a week of good weather. Hope it doesn't get too hot. I would like to go to the lake but don't want to go in the car. It will probably be too crowded on a holiday weekend.

Sue, it's so heartwarming to hear how everyone in your community is jumping in and helping. It makes your community look that much more inviting.

I just finished rolling over $200 dollars worth of quarters. And this is from the quarters I took out of the machines Sunday. I'm waiting for someone here who took my list of things with to Walmart for continental breakfast to return with the milk, etc. I sure hope she has a good cooler because she called me from the store over 3 hours ago. After she gets back I want to empty the laundry machines again. I have more than enough rolls of quarters so I need to call the bank and see if I can bring in loose quarters to change for bills next week. Otherwise I'll be rolling more. Fingers crossed.

I haven't received any pictures from Lyn yet. Will post when I do.

Afternoon. I was fairly productive today. Made 2 quiches today, will cut and freeze one and then will take 1/2 of the other one over to my neighbor. Just had lunch and cleaned up the kitchen. Think when it cools down this weekend I will clean my oven. It isn't that dirty but is easier to clean if I clean it every few months. I dont use it alot as I use my Air Fryer mostly.

I had a long talk with my Cousin today. She is a few years older than I am and her hubby Chuck will be 91 soon. She got covid and was super sick, spent the night in the hospital, A couple days prior he had a slight cough and runny nose..........that was it. She was thankful for su re. She wanted to know how I like Roseburg.....well....there are good and bad things. Healthcare is bad. No specialists and the hospital ships just about everything serious out. Vets are either not taking new clients or it is months of waiting. Grooming is the same way. Luckily I found a vet out of town to the south and a groomer about 10 miles north. There are no emergency vets here so you either have to drive 100 miles south to Medford or 80 miles north to Eugene.
Shopping is sad at best. Things are more expensive up here. Except for taxes, mine were $1380 and here they are %268. My electric bill is cheaper usually runs in the high 50's or low 60's. I do like my house tho, just wish I could transport it either north or south LOL I have good neighbors. Just no friends yet like I had down there. I am hoping now that covid is settling down I will get out and meet some people.

I will be heading down to Medford for my eye doc appts in the middle of June so can do some shopping, eating, and visiting while I am down there.

Whew! I am hot and sweaty!

They are trimming the palm trees today. I moved my car and golf cart to the carports across the street since there are no palm trees to trim over there. I was at the neighbors watching them trim the trees where I could get a better view and be out of the way. The boom truck backed into my front yard and onto my patio, parking just inches from my bike! :o They had already moved my patio table, chairs and plants to under my carport to get the truck in there. (My bike is locked to the shed). I have a palm tree in my backyard and they needed to get closer with the truck to get the boom back that far. Usually they park in my neighbors driveway but must have decided they could get further back by parking in my yard. My other neighbor came home from work and went ballistic over them having moved her golf cart. And one of the palm fronds came down and damaged her rose bush. I know they try to be as careful as they can when they drop those down but they don't always fall straight down. They do the best they can. This is a new company and they seem to be doing a real good job of moving things out of the way. The other companies never moved anything. I helped one of the workers move my swing that is behind the shed near the palm tree to the other side of my house. I took off the swing awning just in case. Later, when they were done, everything got moved back. I went to put my awning back on the swing and it just started to shred! It has been in the hot sun for 3 years and has totally rotted out. So will have to see if I can get a replacement. I might actually try to sell it tho since I never use it. I could actually move my shed back further on that patio so it will make my front patio larger. The shed is right in the middle of the concrete pad so I have a small patio area in front of it and in back of it. Will figure that out later tho. More important things to do first.

Just cooling off here now before I get back to going thru stuff in my living room. Already took out the trash and recycling. I can move my car and golf cart back now since the trimmers have moved on down the street.

My pain in my back/shoulder is pretty much gone today. Must have just pulled a muscle the other day.

Over 100* again today and a little humid. Lola was enjoying laying out in the hot porch earlier until the tree trimmers showed up. She didn't like the noise of the trucks, chain saws and shredding machine so is now inside the nice cool house! :D

Oh jeez! I forgot to send this earlier today!

OK, so more to tell...

I have been working on cleaning up my living room. Went thru a lot of bins and got most of it organized and put away. I just have some little piddly things that I need to figure out what to do with. That is the kind of stuff that usually ends up in boxes labeled "Misc" and put away only to be gone thru again the next time I move.

The older lady next door moved her car across the street this morning for the tree trimmers, like I did. I meant to ask her later today if she wanted me to move it back for her but I forgot. Then about an hour ago, I saw a fire truck pull up in front of my house. I ran out to see what happened and Gloria was sitting at the end of her driveway. She was going to get her car and fell when she got to the street. I was busy in the house and didn't see her until I saw the firetruck pull up. So they helped her up and back to her deck. They asked her some questions and she said she was fine (stubborn Texas woman!) so they decided to leave. That is when she told me she hit her head on the concrete and had a bump on her head. I checked it and it was huge! No blood but I was very concerned. I was able to run to the firetruck before they pulled away and told them to take another look at her. They were very concerned and wanted her to go to the hospital but she refused. Her blood pressure was pretty high. I told them I would keep an eye on her tonight and then take her to Urgent Care in the morning (she refused to let me take her tonight). I think we scared her tho and she said she is gonna call and tell her daughter what happened. She usually won't tell her about her falls (which are frequent) since she doesn't want to worry her  . Our other neighbor lady came over and I think she gave her a little lecture after I left.

The other neighbor lady told me later that there are 3 small kittens living in the bushes across the street. We went to look for then and saw 3 orange tabby kittens peaking out at us! The parents are the same ones of the other older kittens (orange female and fluffy black and white male, the one with the infected ear). So I need to work with another neighbor down the street who was able to catch the other kittens and get them fixed, to see if we can get these 3 trapped and fixed. The parent cats are so elusive and seem to know what the traps are and stay clear of them.

So it has been a busy day! Whew!

sounds like a busy day for you Barbi... can't say the same for me... I actually watered my pansy's today they are looking good... not sure if it was productive but had some thunder earlier this evening
I won't complain but we are suppose to get rain this weekend we typically do a picnic after putting flowers out at the cemetery however it's sounding like the weather is going to change that ... 80% chance of rain makes one sit up and pay attention... not sure what we will do but guess that ham goes back into the freezer it's not thawed out yet so it will be ok had hopes of getting it out of the freezer though :(
went to the store didn't have moms candy in... it seems like even if you don't buy a lot it cost a lot...
there was another food truck at Smith's parking lot... one for fish had planned on doing that but decided I didn't want any and a pop corn truck .... decided that I did want some oh now I am not remembering the term know what I want and got it... tastes good
my cousin posted the other day a series of happenings in her family her grandson had I think a ATV accident and broke his back but will be ok will have to wear a brace but will heal and is walking already even ... then she mentioned that her sister had a stroke and fell and broke her back in a couple of places..... today on FB I saw a post of my cousin who was posting son of him and 3 of his aunts.. on a road trip I recognized my cousin in the front seat ...she never changes.... in the back seat one of the sisters had changed enough that I couldn't pull her name out but the other sister I thought was the eldest one of the family she looks like one or two of my aunts in many way's so I asked who was in the back seat as it had been so long since I'd seen them I wasn't positive (by the time he answered I'd remembered my cousins name still doesn't look like her) anyway he told me who they were as I thought when I finally remembered the cousin closest to my age.. then my cousin replied telling more about her sister's condition... not good they don't expect her to live more than a week or two... I am tired of it...
need to go start the dishwasher and go to my room before I get to caught up in this show... oops want to play at least one game though... I might watch it...
you all have a great day

Have had a interesting couple of days. Tuesday it was 101° and handyman had to take pantry door off to fix. So AC was fighting that. Wednesday, after Curves and treadmill, at thermometer hit 103°, I was out on front porch talking to Sean, as he was packing to leave. Happened to look towards my huge front room window. Saw something weird, at first throught cobweb. So went down ramp and around to window, and, oh my! Middle big square section is cracked in C pattern top to bottom! It's dual pane and it's the inside pane. Weird thing is, a few days ago I was at the window measuring, as I had been contemplating having it replaced at some point. Window was intact that day I measured. It's not like I have grand kids tossing toys. It's original to the house, so 42 years old. It's aluminum framed. Moisture has condensed between the two panes for years now. But I knew a 95 inch wide by 59 inch tall window with 3 sections was going to be pricey. Guess that gets bumped to top of list as next! We think house has settled a bit and somehow stressed only that pane. Makes no sense, but there it is.
Have to get up way way early for me in the morning to load Sizie, my orange winged Amaxon, into carrier and take her to vet for checkup and nose cleaning (she has had lifetime respiratory issues). Suzie joined our family in 1979, so, in a way, she's my eldest feather kid.
I'm offto bed. Have a good night all.

Velda, you don't happen to have the dark solar film on those windows? I was going to put that on my porch windows but read that you can't use that on double-paned windows because they will shatter from the heat.
