Sunday May 22

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunday May 22

Morning All, another humid uncomfortable day in store. Lower temps next week I hope. Thinking of Sue and the devastation in Gaylord. Judy, safe travels. Going to do laundry today so the technicians working on cleaning dryer vents next week don’t have hot dryer air blowing in their face. Do not know what day next week they will need to come in and check dryer so I need to be dressed early. A small inconvenience to prevent a fire. Found a recipe for German potato salad so will add to dinner menu. Otherwise will just mist houseplants and putter. The world and weather is so crazy I don’t know what to say except be careful.

It's really cool here after it rained off and on until late last night. Lots of thunder and lightening. Pippa stayed close and I could tell she didn't like the thunder. I tried to keep her entertained as I really don't her to be terrified of storms. I had one that I had to drug when it stormed. I was caught in the rain twice yesterday once waiting for my coffee at the coffee truck I've been wanting to try and then when I went into the grocery store. They brought my coffee to the van, unfortunately not worth the wait or the getting wet before I could get to my van. I talked to a friend in Denver last night and she said it was 90 on I think Thursday and the next day it snowed, a lot! She said she felt sorry for the birds as they were flying under her porch trying to get out of the snow. I agree Shirl the world and weather is crazy.
Judy I hope you are road ready and chilling. Have a wonderful trip!!

Good Morning from cold South Dakota! We had a freeze warning last night and it was 33 when I woke up around 7. Sue, I hope you have your power back. We had a derecho go through South Dakota on Thursday the 12th and there was massive damage through out the state. We were extremely lucky with only a few small branches and twigs down, but a block and a half south of us is the football stadium and the concession stand, cement block grandstand, chain link fence and scoreboard were demolished. Our little metal shed that we keep the mower in really isn’t anchored down that great and it was fine. The neighbors across the street lost a fence and most of the shingles off the south side of the house. Huge trees were uprooted around town, and we lost power and water. There was major damage to farms buildings and equipment. When I went to bed Thursday night Northwestern Energy was estimating that we wouldn’t have power restored until Saturday morning, so school had been called off on Friday. I woke up about 2:30am Friday morning to about every light in the house on! God bless those linemen. We finally had water mid-morning Friday. What a relief because we didn’t have any idea how we were going to get all the things made for Sami’s graduation reception on Saturday without power or water.

Other than that, this week has been pretty uneventful. I attended the kindergarten roundup with Haddie…proxy for mom and dad because they couldn’t make it. Faye and I worked on wedding stuff Wednesday night and last night! We’re done! Halleluiah! We heard through the grapevine that a lady is going to ask us to do her stepdaughter’s wedding. We have decided we’re going to say no. We’d be working with the mother and stepmother, and they have a toxic relationship from a nasty divorce, and we don’t want to end up in the middle of it.

Judy, Have a wonderful trip. Sue, my plants are still sitting in the garage waiting to be planted…glad they weren’t out last night. Cheryl, Nice to know you’re back on the road. Irmi, I bet your church is ecstatic that you are in Florida full time. Martha, when you’re done washing your RV you can come and do our 5er. Sharon, sorry about your accident. Hope you’re feeling okay. BJ, when you said you didn’t want Pippa afraid of storms, it made me think of our Radar. We’d be standing looking out windows during a storm and she’d be standing at the top of the basement steps giving us the “If you fools want to stay up here FINE! I’m going down the basement” look. Lyn, tell your daughter if you can’t have a cat that you’re either going to get a rat or a snake. That might change her mind! Beth, everyone has a “duh” moment occasionally. You are exhausted and need more help plan and simple.

I best start doing something constructive…whatever that may be.
My mind works like lightning...one brilliant flash and it's gone.

It's already 83° and breezy off amd on. Everything that grew in spring is drying out! Grass fires all over the area, but so far, hitting them fast and hard and using the states new helicopters which carry hundreds of gallons more than the older ones and fly 1/3 faster, has helped get fires quickly contained. Hope that continues.
No plans today. Our 09 church is just too early for me, so I'll read scriptures instead. Our fuel price for regular gas was $5.44 when I filled Thursday evening, $5.49 by Friday and Saturday jumped to $5.54. Sure glad I went Thursday. I dont use but about half tank a month, but sure seems awful to pay $45 for half tank in a little PT Cruiser.
Have a safe day everyone.

Sitting in airport—got here really early but did not want to miss plane to JFK

If you have a dog who might develop a fear of thunder, get some trouble by pieces of chicken or favorite treat. As quickly as you can after every boom, give him a piece of chicken. That will make him associate boom with good things. But you need to be really quick with treat. Called operant conditioning and it works.

That is a really good idea Judy, unless you have my dog. She is unmotivated by treats or food. When we have thunder and lightning or fireworks, gunshots etc she hides under the bed. My last dog I had to medicate as she would pant, shake, and pace even way after it was over. Hiding is much better LOL

I have nothing new to report. But didn't want to not post. My really itty bitty news is that when I collected coins from our laundry, I almost couldn't carry them back in the container I've been using, and that's after first filling the change machine again . I collected lots of bills from the change machine. So it's a job on my to do list now twice a week. I've saved the quarters to roll for later tonight or tomorrow. It'll be interesting to see how many rolls I'll have.

I saw a picture of an RV dealer near Sue. If looks like all the rvs in the lot are totalled. So sad.

Nothing new here either Beth. I cleaned out one of my file drawers and then filed a bunch of papers and instructions for some things. Then finished straightening up my office. Put some steak in the crockpot and when I checked it a couple hours later it wasnt even on for some reason. Guess I need a new one. This was one of my garage sale finds. Not working out for me today. I will just pop it in the instant pot. Was going to go to Costco today but then said WHY??? You can go tomorrow with way less people, so tomorrow it is.

I too saw all those RV's piled up, such a loss for sure. I know they have insurance but still so sad. The loss of the homes, businesses, and lives is also tragic. Hope Sue gets some electricity soon. She says they are hard at work...trying.

Guess where I am???

Nope, not London, not even JFK airport. Flight from Cleveland to JFK got cancelled which means I will miss my flight to London tonight. So I am back at my son's house and trying to get problems with the rescheduled flight fixed with Delta and Virgin Atlantic. Basically, Delta rescheduled me to a coach seat when I had paid for a Premium seat, whcih is comparable to US first class!!!

ANd all the airline phone lines are busy.

Grrrrr... :x

After 2.5 hours on phone calls back and forth from Delta and VA, VA finally got me back to premium on flight tomorrow evening. Much of the time was on hold with Delta. At end, after saying it was not possible to fix their mistake, they sent me a customer satisfaction survey. You can imagine my responses.

Virgin Airlines fixed leg from JFK to London but Delta still has me in wrong class to JFK

Premium is only about 25-30% more expensive. But my old bones cannot handle crowded coach anymore for 8 hours, and I wanted what I paid for!!! Son will take me back to Cleveland airport tomorrow and I plan to nail the guy who did this! :D

that is really too bad Judy glad it's mostly fixed now though... safe travels looking forward to your reports and pictures
I really did post last night but didn't look to see that it posted when I came back found two more but not me... I really need to take that extra second to see if it posted...
just a normal Sunday Church ours starts at 12 would rather the 9 o'clock one or better yet the one in the middle if lucky enough to have one... one of my classmates... we were though a lot of years together was at church now with a oxygen tank... makes me so sad... he has had such ill health over many years... one of the good guys...
made chicken Alfredo for supper was going to make chicken tenders in AF but forgot one of the items for it... so went with Chicken Alfredo thought I had a jar of it nope so thought I could make it from scratch but didn't have enough parmasean so ended up using what I had plus cream cheese when in a fix you have to improvise actually tasted pretty good... lots of times when I have left overs I'll call nephew and family to come this time not enough for all of us but too much for just the two of us and it's not recommended to freeze so might call one of the widows and have someone else come help us eat it later in the week and the fish truck will be here this week look forward to it...
hopefully Sue's electricity will be up and running soon
Beth didn't you say you got some local help? hopefully it's enough to make it easier for you... and coins weigh lots
that had to been scary Pat aren't those the side ways winds? they had it in Iowa a couple years ago did lots of damage there as well... and sounds like a plan to say no to that wedding can't imagine working in a situation that could come up
you all have a great day now to tell myself to be patient and make sure it posts
