Sunshine Thursday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunshine Thursday

Postby Colliemom » Thu May 05, 2022 7:20 am

Good Mornng from the 45th. Sunny, cool 36°. Hesding Into 60’s. Good day to work outside. The flower boxes are up and Pansies enjoying the cool morning. Will water later. Not sure what I will get into today, have plenty of things I can do. . Maybe set some of the cement edging I got from neighbors in place by the shed. They are tearing out an old flowerbed. I need to put some gravel along shed to keep dirt from splashing on siding when it rains, so win for both of us. They get rid of edging, I don’t have to buy any. But first need to head to town, get eggs from my egg lady, head to Walmart and then home. Might pop into Hobby Lobby as unfinished wood crafts on sale. Can’t buy lumber for what I can buy unfinished birdhouses for. Finish them myself. Also want to buy some expandable hoses. Old ones are getting heavy to move around here.

Shirl, how’s the Romaine project coming, or did you give up on it. Thinking of doing that, but waiting to see how yours does. Beth, hope it warms up for you. Hope your experiment with TY in the office works out. Maybe he will get used to people being around after awhile. Barbie, sounds like you had an enjoyable get away. Hope you are feeling better. Martha, glad your motorhome is fixed and seems to be working okay.

Need to move along here and get those eggs and other stuff. Have a nice day all.

Good morning Everybody from the Denver Airport. I was hoping to be home in Hartford this morning, but alas here I am. Yesterday the plane developed engine problems as we were leaving the gate. That’s better than in flight. United provided a hotel and shuttle back to the airport for a 7:30 am flight. Just rec’d text saying the flight is delayed until 8:08 am. Oh dear….
Kino Bay was great but nearly seven months away from home is too long.

I’ve been reading all the posts, but haven’t posted for awhile.

Cheryl, I’ve marked my calendar for the days you will be in Clinton and plan to come see you.

Take care everybody and enjoy today. Peggy

Happy Cinco de Mayo ! This is a Mexican Holiday, but for some reason many people here go crazy , go out and get drunk and throw up on the sidewalk and think that is a lot of fun!!!
When I was traveling, I DID stop and break off a lilac branch for the smell in the motor home.
Love that smell.
Peggy, wow, seven months in Kinco Bay!!! I thought you were gone a long time.
Barbie, I agree with everything you say about Idlewild.
Sheila, I am interested in hearing about the apartment.
Sue, I love pansies.

Peggy, that's how I feel about this 7 months job assignment. Too long. But I'm in the 2nd month and think it might be better when the winds die.

I have one of my 1/2 days off this morning. So I'm still in bed. Getting up soon or it won't feel like any time off lol

Another windy day. We are suppose to have storms tonight. I hope it's late because I have one of my Meetup Meals tonight in Lafayette. Will probably have boiled crawfish again. The last time for this season. I didn't put the motorhome up when I got home with it. They are talking about hail so think I'll put it in the RV Port. The truck is out too so it needs to be moved.

Peggy, hope you make it home without more delays. I haven't flown anywhere in about 12 years and hope I never have to fly again. I'm not afraid to fly, it's just everything that goes with it. And it's gotten worse.

I started loading and unloading my stuff. I have been hauling a bundle of firewood around for 4 months. I'm unloading that. I don't think we will be having campfires when it's 80 something. There are about 75 women going to the RVW rally. I'm leaving there on Thursday and going to a GetawayGal rally about an hour from here. The GG's have a theme campout but I'm not into dressing up. Just like to see friends that I haven't seen in a long time. This campout has been rescheduled 3 times because of Covid.

I finally got my hummingbird feeder up Sunday and two birds have found it. They could save a lot of energy is they would quit fighting over it. I see wasps on it to. I need to take a can of spray and look for the wasp nests.

Good morning, Peggy, and all who follow.

Definitely "better than in flight". Hope you make it home safely.

Your airport story reminded me of an experience I had many years ago. I was flying a non-stop from Boston to Sacramento. It was late October, and (as I remember) temps were cold and the plane was late getting onto the runway because they had to de-ice the plane before it could take off (ice forming on the wings - and other parts of the plane - adds weight. Sometimes a LOT of weight. Weight is a very important calculation in determining if a plane is safe to take off, let alone fly).

This made the plane about an hour late, by the time all was said and done, and one could hear a lot of loud grumbling and complaining from the passengers. Finally, the plane was given the ok, and we were in the air.

When had been in the air an hour or so, an announcement was made by the captain that the plane would be making an unscheduled stop in Atlanta to take on more fuel due to further icing. Apparently, the plane had continued to ice up a bit after it was in the air, thus adding more weight. More weight means more fuel consumption, and the pilot or the tower or someone had calculated that we didn't now have enough fuel to make it to Sacramento nonstop (as originally scheduled) because the plane was now too heavy, and thus consuming too much fuel.

Oh my! You should have heard the grumbling, seen the anger and fist waving! Worse now than it was before take off: "I'm going to be late to my meeting!", "##!!@@ airline is gonna make me miss my connection!!" and so on.

As we could all feel the plane slow for descent into Atlanta, the anger and noise in the cabin became unmistakably hostile, as the volume of the complaints continually increased.

Those who know me know that I am a bit of a mouse in most situations, but, finally, I had about had enough. Things were beginning to look like they might get out of hand.

During a brief lull in the commotion, I stood up in my seat and shouted, "WHAT?? You all just want to run out of gas, instead??"

LOL. If it wasn't for the roar of the descending engines, I think I might have been able to hear a pin drop.

No one said another word.

I was flying to Dallas from Lafayette one time and they made the last person that boarded get off because we were over weight. I thought if it made that much difference maybe I should get off too. I didn't but I sure thought about it. I didn't like to fly to Dallas because it felt that by the time we got to cruising altitude it was time to land.

Good afternoon ladies!

Sue, post pictures of what you're working on next. Peggy, Maybe by now you're back in CT. Shirl, I'm beginning to think I need a new alarm clock, too. Somehow it lost an hour 2 days ago and this is a memory clock! I've tried resetting the time but it is stubborn. Lyn, I understand your frustration about how some people celebrate holidays. Beth, I hope your winds quit and that it starts to warm up for you. Martha, have fun at the women's gtg. Anne, that is so funny about hearing the pin drop on the plane.

We're in the low 90's today and the sun is shining, so we're inside the casita with the a/c on. We're planning a brief mini vacation for a couple days and will go by car about three hours south of here and visit Siesta Key and the following day we have reservations to go on a pontoon boat ride for two hours. We'll return home sometime Thursday and then we'll plan another small getaway. I want to see the Bok Tower in Lake Wales and hear the carillon bells. Steve will barbecue a steak for him and a chicken breast for me for our dinner and I'll make a salad as a side.

Today was so different than yesterday. It got up to almost 80 yesterday and then this morning I get up and it is pouring rain............it lightened up after lunch and rain expected for the rest of the week. Glad we are getting it but doesnt seem to do much for our drought in the lakes and rivers, dont know where it goes.

Kind of a lazy day today. Had a headache so plopped into the recliner after taking some meds and nodded off for about an hour. Still feeling tired but tomorrow is another day.

Good evening gals. Just got home from work and have had a headache all day, besides still being bloated and not feeling good yet. Maybe I have a little bug? It was pretty busy today, mostly women coming in. Usually we have mostly men but must have been ladies day today. I got two $20 tips and a $10 tip today! Those are so nice to get! :D

One of my co-workers is almost 5 months pregnant and she and her husband went in for an ultrasound the other day to find out the sex of the baby. Well, they got bad news. The baby has a lot of major problems and won't survive to the due date. So they are going to terminate the pregnancy (probably induce her for delivery) sometime next week. They, of course, are devastated! So she won't be back to work for at least another week or so. I will be taking some of her shifts now. I will now be working for the next 4 days in a row, and an extra day next week. Not a problem, altho I think I will be getting sore joints by Sunday. Just have to take some ibuprofin and use the CBD balm as needed.

I had an interesting flight one time. I was in Ft Meyers, FL and flying back to Minneapolis in January about 40 years ago. After getting to the airport around 4pm that evening, the plane was late (was Sun Country Airlines) due to mechanical issues. After determining it couldn't be fixed, they had another plane going from Mexico to Orlando that would make a stop to pick us up along the way. It arrived in Ft Myers at 1am. Then we landed in Orlando in a heavy thunderstorm to drop off the other passengers and refuel before heading to Minneapolis. We finally took off for Mpls after 2am. Almost halfway there, it started getting colder and colder in the plane. Turns out the heat wasn't working!! :o They handed out blankets for everyone. I had 3, one for my feet, one for over my body, and one around my head! When I turned towards the window, my breath turned to ice on the glass! We were not a happy bunch but made the best of it, eating what ever snacks the flight attendants could find for us. We finally landed in Mpls around 5am. We were all ready to run out of the airplane, but, it was not to be... :( . Because of the moisture from the rain storm in Orlando and the lack of heat on the plane, the doors were frozen shut!! It took about another hour for them to finally thaw out the doors and get them open! By that time we were all fit to be tied!!! My poor dad had been waiting for me at the airport since midnight! It was -15 below zero outside and blowing snow! What a long, miserable flight back home!

Finished up my sloppy joes for lunch today. They were so good! Need to make something else now for lunches for the next 4 days. Also want to frost my hair soon. It is looking dull lately. It is getting pretty long now, about chin length and is getting curlier as it gets longer! I want to get it at least to my shoulder. I have always had straight hair. I started to notice a little wave in it shortly after starting menopause but always kept it short. I have always wanted longer layered hair with beachy waves. I used to get perms to get the curl and body in it. Now I have that naturally! Am hoping for the beachy wave look when it gets to my shoulders! :D About the only good thing that came with menopause!

Before I went up "the hill" to Idyllwild, I looked for my camera to bring but couldn't find it so I figured I would just use the one on my new phone. I took quite a few photos with it but the colors are way off! It absolutely won't show any red colors. Reds show up as a murky brown. Pinks show up as white. Am very disappointed with that. Most of the photos look almost black and white. Greens and blues show fairly true. The macro option I used worked well for the purple lilacs and some yellow flowers, but not for the pink or fuscia colored flowers. Anything in the red color family just didn't show up at all as red. With that problem and other problems I am having, I might just send back the phone and try another one.

Have a good night!

It was really nice to meet up with Cheryl yesterday and enjoy some good italian food nearby.

I never get on an airplane without food! This was after spending three hours on the runway in Chicago and then having to get refueled before we could leave, but of course, they would not let us off the plane. The flight was another five hours to Vancouver, BC. And of course there was nothing but snacks and things like pretzels. Luckily, between the flight to Vancouver and the one from Detroit, I had bought two pastires--one a chocolate croissant and the other an almond bear claw, but it turned out to be almost a 9 hour flight with no food for most travelers. I did notice a lot of parents had brought more substantial snacks, but I no longer trust that I will get something to eat unless I bring it with me!

Got a reservation for a storage place today. Had to go out and sign papers. It is a long way from the airport and kids will not be in town, so it will be an expensive Uber ride after I get back, but at least my son will be able to take me to the airport on the day I leave. And he will check RV while I am gone.

as to the apartment I've mentioned it off and on what it is is my daughter and her husband are building another house... why? not sure but they are I believe sil's bout with cancer sorta scared them and decided to build the house they want rent out the currant house that way if it reappears and SIL is taken she can live on the rents of the garage apartment and the house.... I think that is the thinking.... so in their "new" house they won't be needing the basement for their use so decided that they would let my other dd and me have it as an apartment. The one issue is we need to finish it as they can't afford the cost of doing that... but when you look at apartments or houses the cost of renting or buying it makes so much sense .... it's just figuring out how to get a loan to finish that apartment.... but it's looks so nice... and we will figure it out... one thought I've had is the bare necessity's dd's room bathroom somewhat of a kitchen but in reality that won't work I will either be here with mom or if we work it out so I can go to Q for the winter and here in the summer as long as mom is alive I really won't be living there however I do want a say in it as it will someday be my winter home... they are putting in a step in shower which is nice... no stairs unless I go up to the main house which of course I will but we will have our own washer and dryer so won't have to go upstairs for the use of the laundry... I don't plan on being in it full time for a long time but it will be there when I need it...
my brother came over and fixed the faucet for real this time... after my shower I couldn't get it turned off regardless of what I tried... so now it doesn't leak yea!!!
moved the wind spinner over to another area much easier to see... I checked to see if the window had condensation on it.. but it's not condensation seems sticky think from the plants
vacuumed worked on the Swedish Weave for a bit... folded a batch of clothes... and cooked sausage in the Air Fryer it was so good... I am notorious for over cooking sausage not sure if it was cooking it in the AF or if it was I didn't make them as thin as I normally would... when we had the kids at home and also my husband like his patties thinner they were made thinner so it would go further ... this time it was 5 out of the Jimmy Dean roll no shrinkage moist just was so good... so will have to make a couple of hamburgers next week see how those go..
so that was my day not much at all
I haven't flown enough to have any exciting stories glad you are on your way home Peggy hopefully you are by now... 7 months is a long time
you all have a great day
