Last Day of April

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Last Day of April

Postby Colliemom » Sat Apr 30, 2022 5:12 am

Good Morning :) O’dark thirty out there as I write this. Another sunny but cool dsy coming up. Temps in 50’s, but rain expected later and into tomorrow for awhile. Fire danger is High to Very High, so need some moisture to get things greening up. Typical for this time of year after the snow melts. Been great Weather for working outdoors though.

Pepper plant is growing nicely in it’s pot. Debating on whether to get a tomato plant. Season is short here. Cherry tomatoes do well. Did one in a container a few years ago. Shirl, I will have to try the Romaine lettuce idea and see what happens. Reading the Gardening tbread has got me wanting to try stuff now :) Shirl, you have us all thinking on that subject

Enjoyed reading about class reunions yesterday. I’ve never gone to any of mine. My high school was about 3000 kids, my graduating class was over 700. I had a couple friends I did some things with, but tended to hang around with the older crowd too. Belonged to the Pep and Ski clubs but that was about all. Back then there were the students who were planning on college and the rest of us just going to school with no college plans. The college bound ones were the popular kids in school, the ones who were active in everything, had their groups of friends etc…. I’m sure most of us had the same things in our schools. I did wind up attending Community College though.

Barbie, you mentioned posting the pictures from my fence project. Put them in General Talk.

Think today will be a drive to Houghton Lake, want to go to Arts and Crafts store, have lunch out etc., just for a change of scenery. Was considering Mackinaw, but decided the low 50’s and wind, with the cold Lake water, wasn’t best day for a stroll along the waterfront with the dogs. Might take them with me or might not. Winds predicted to be 20-30 mph. Warmer down that way though but possibly afternoon shower. There is a State Park we can go walk around. Will decide before I leave. Lan to stop at the bakery in Grayling for scones which I really don’t need, but they are so good. Haven’t had one for quite awhile now, so figure I’m entitled to it

Have a great day all and keep safe.

Morning Sue and All, sunny and predicted 63°today. Looks like warmer starting next week so Juliet plant is going on the balcony during the days until next week and then in the big pot. Container gardening has gained popularity and there is a lot of info on YouTube videos. If you are spending more time at home it’s something to do besides vacuuming and dusting. I need more potting mix. Sue, your description of high school described mine too. I only went to my 50th reunion and it was like being back in high school. Lol No special plans, just putzing at home. Be safe

Hi Sue, Shirl & everyone!

It is warm here but not overly. It was 67 when I got up and right now it is 82.

Steve has a pork loin in the Dutch Oven on his Big Green Egg which will turn into pulled pork later. I'll try to take a picture or two to show you what he does. I still need to practice for church. We also have a potluck on the first Sunday of the month after the service and I said I would bring potato salad. So I have my work cut out for me.

Day started out cloudy and light rain but sun is out now with a slight breeze and is 57 so not too bad. Next Wednesday we have a warm one 77 then go back down to the low 60's. Lows hanging out in the 40's so another week or so should be good planting time. Pretty decent weather actually. I was at Home Depot and I was lusting to buy some plants but resisted the urge until I get the garden area tilled and upgrade the soil in my containers.

Took a pork chop out for dinner tonight. Got some brussels sprouts to use up and a yam so that will work.

Good Afternoon, my high school had 1000 kids for 6 grades. A Jr/Sr school. 200 in my graduation class. I was in the GAA (girls athletic assn) and the band. Alto saxophone. Never one of the “popular “. Kids, but knew a lot of them being such a small school. Went into nurses training right after graduation. Went to San Francisco for that. Was a beautiful town in those days.
The jacaranda trees are blooming all over town. Quite beautiful, but leave a mess on the sidewalk.
The City said they are going to crack down on scooters riding on the sidewalk. I am not holding my breath waiting.
Beautiful day here. Lyn

I have been to all of my high school reunions except the first one. We had only 87 in our graduating class, but most of us also went to elementary school and 8th grade together, so we knew everyone. (No junior high for us. In my neighborhood, we went to a neighboring elementary school for 5th and 6th grade, then back to our enlarged elementary for 7th grade. 8th grade for all of us was the high school, but we were not allowed to go to school dances until 9th grade.

And for the last couple of reunions, we invited all the dropouts as well, which brought the class size up to about 120. After all, mostly we knew the dropouts as well as the ones who actually graduated with us. A brother of one classmate who passed away also dropped into our 50th!!

Finally, a nice day in Ohio with a high of 67 today. I had another bone graft procedure yesterday for my eventual tooth implant, so had a really throbbing mouth most of the day and night. Fell asleep about 2 am and then woke up for an hour at 5:30 am and again for half an hour at 11 am, but slept until almost 2 pm. I am really still sleepy, so not sure if this is because of antibiotic combined with something else I have been taking for potential infection in tooth site or what. After I finish this, I am going out for a walk, then tonight if I can get up energy I will clean oven so it does not smoke again and set off smoke alarm!!

I got my vitamin D today. I loaded the mower and went and mowed in Maurice. I hadn't mowed in a month so had to mow part of it high and then low. It was dusty and windy so my hair needs to be washed again.

I was so into horses in high school I had no thoughts of going to college. It's a miricle that I even graduated. My aunt found out I was talking about joining the Air Force so she sent me the money to go to Dallas. I got a job that summer and she lent me the money in the fall to go to college. I had to move when I was a senior to a school that only had 32 seniors. It was a school that went from 1'st to 12 th. That was a shock coming from Shreveport. I went to a few reunions with them and then the school decided to have a school wide reunion every 5 years. It was like no one knew when to go so the attendance really dwindled after that.

Lyn, if you get arrested for riding your scooter on the sidewalk be sure and send us a picture. lol Like the police don't have better things to do than harass senior citizens.

I had to go to Walmart yesterday to get food for the house cats. I got out of Walmart about 2:30 and remembered that I had an appointment to get my second booster at 1:00. I decided to go by the clinic and plead senility. They gave me my shot. My arm started getting sore about 11:00 last night but that's the only effect I have had.

I need to go unload the mower and put the trailer up.

Sue, thanks for the 'last day' reminder - I set my alarm for Rabbits! Also, nice fence and glad it's finished.

Cool, cloudy and sometimes wet. We are supposed to have a beautiful day tomorrow - fingers crossed. Still having more breeze than normal in this little protected area.

At that time, we had the largest graduating class in Port Angeles - 367 or thereabouts. I've gone to several reunions and had a blast as we were/are pretty close knit. Our 55th was canceled due to Covid and we heard no more. A few classmates gathered in Salome in March - that's happened before. Friday night is casual and the most fun. Saturday is dinner and then a too loud band. I remember one when BFF and I approached the deck of the gathering Friday night and I said, 'Who are these old people?' Thank goodness for name tags! At our 10-year reunion, a friend came up from Oregon and that was the first year of the Friday night gathering. Lots of hugging going on so our husbands had t-shirts made saying 'Kiss me, I'm a spouse' for Saturday night.

Lyn, I'm confused - are your talking about your scooter or the ones people were leaving lay all over the sidewalk? Martha, thanks for the 2nd booster reminder - I looked it up and looks like they accept walk ins at the clinic here. I went to Walmart for just a few things the other day and they had an outside group doing inventory so many more people in the aisles. The kids tell me the WalMart about an hour from here is much nicer and probably newer - also a nice drive. Beth, hope you find workers quickly.

We made our last reunion, our 50th, very casual, hoping to get more classmates to come. There were about 20 of us with a few spouses, and it was held in one small section of a hotel ballroom. Music came from a boombox someone brought, and we were dressed in jeans and slacks, no dressy clothes at all. We did have a sit-down meal, but mostly spent the time just chatting.

However, in the neighboring 4 out of 5 sections of the ballroom, divided by one of those portable walls from our reunion, was the 50th reunion for one of the big Detroit high schools from a well-to-do area. They had a hundred or so people attend, with a real band, flowers in school colors, and sparking lights and decorations. And everyone was dressed up in formal wear. We looked like the poor relatives we had been in high school!! In fact, in sports, we were even classified as a "C" school with our 450 students in grades 9-12, whereas the big schools were "Class A" schools with a couple thousand or so kids! :o

My graduating class was almost 1000. I think it was the 25th I attended and said never again. To formal, stuck sitting at dinner next to someone I had no memory of and that was a good thing lol. He wouldn't leave me alone and a few weeks after the reunion he showed up at my job. Yucky is putting it mildly. But when no one planned a 40th, I believe it was, and a few of my friends wanted one I helped plan a very laid back reunion. And my RV and I showed up and actually had a good time. But the idiot from the 25th didn't think what we were doing was good enough so he planned a more formal dinner with a bunch then they joined our party. My friends never let him near me lol. Our informal reunion was at a bar restaurant, anyone could come, buy your own food and drink. The bar even had a band for us that night... No charge to us. This year they are having an open bar and only mini meal and it's around $65/$75. I suggested they get rid of the open bar and have people pay. Many agreed but the planners thought they needed it. I guess they figure they'll get smashed. Then there's an after party like the one my friends and I planned. My friends aren't going to the first but straight to the casual after event. If I was going, I'd do the same. Now they've announced they only have room for 100 at the "main event". There are some people I'd like to see, but I'm not sorry that I won't make this one.

I'm waiting for the "doorbell" to ring and call me back into the motel office. A group with 3 rooms for several days hasn't arrived yet. Then I'll be off till mid afternoon tomorrow. I'm hoping I remember rabbits.

My grade school was K-6, Jr high was 7-9, and high school 10-12. My graduating class was about 650. I think if the ones who plan the reunions would find a much less expensive venue, they would get a lot more attending. But it is the rich "kids" who are in charge and they pick the expensive venues. The day before there is usually a golf outing and even that is at one of the most expensive golf courses in the area. I think the last reunion golf outing was about $125 per person! Some people meet at a local bar on the lake the night before. A lot of them don't go to the reunion but without name tags and mixed in with the regular locals, it is hard to know who is who. The high school also has been doing an "all class" reunion every 5 years which I have gone to and is pretty fun. That morning they have a pancake breakfast at the school and then give tours of the school to show all the changes there. The reunion is held in the afternoon/evening at a large park on the lake with a band.

Was a long day today at work. Wasn't too busy so lots of sitting around. I stopped to get my car washed after work. When I bought the car wash last week while getting gas it just gave me the car wash options but no prices showed so I picked the first one thinking it was the cheapest basic wash. Nope! I checked the receipt while going thru the car wash and I paid $18 for it! :o I guess I got the works! That one better repel dust for the next 3 months for that price!

The black tuxedo cat that I had neutered last weekend was out in my driveway with the fluffy black and white cat with the infected ear, when I got home. I really want to catch the fluffy boy! He and his orange girlfriend are producing too many kittens. Luckily, they are all coming out more during the daytime now so I will try again in 2 weeks to trap one of them then. Last summer I had trouble trapping any before 8pm because it was light out yet and they never came out before dark. Hopefully, I will have better luck this summer.

Am working on transferring to my new phone tonight and getting it figured out and set up. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Have a good night!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)
