Port Lavaca Pics

This is actually about 10 miles (west?) of Port Lavaca. And it is the *perfect* beach for boondocking.



But as this was an attempt to ESCAPE the high temperatures, I opted to get an rv space for electricity to run my AC.



Mornings and evening I did go out for walks. The beach is a bit over a mile long, so that made for 2+ mile loops am and pm.



These black-headed gulls are very beautiful. We don't have them on the West coast.



And I hope one our 'birding' sisters can identify these cranes with pink bills and legs.



Yikes! My glass is empty...must be time to head for home.....

I think the white birds are Ibis.

That looks very close to the 'beach' that we had the March GTG. We were actually at Indianola.

The black headed gulls are Laughing Gulls, the white birds are, as Marslet said, white ibis. Have to watch the gulls, they will drink your drink dry and eat all your food - just ask Sparkle and Retired and Happy (Karen).

Great pics! Bet the ocean breeze is keeping you a little cooler than what you were in Austin. Been hot here in Tucson, too.

Yup, this sure looks like where Beth, Sparkle, my friend Carole and I were in March. Birdie and I stayed at a little (10 sites) RV park across from the beach and Beth and Sparkle boondocked. I tried to PM you but not sure it went thru. What was the name of the RV park you're in? I like the cement pads. Was it close to the beach? I'm planning on going back probably in Feb or March for a week or so. I may boondock this time. I loved being so close to the beach. PM me their phone number or website. And, yes, there are probably some of them around Magnolia Beach - however, the idiot, excuse me, the nice man who owns the cg that Karen stays at called them flamingos - even after I told him they aren't. They are roseate spoonbills.

Sheila, I love most of the gulf birds - but after the spoonbill, it's a close second for me between the pelicans and the blue herons. The blue herons look prehistoric to me and I love watching them.

We have great blue herons up here in the mountain ponds and lakes, but no roseate spoonbills, for sure! Herons are massive and very noisy birds. The first time I heard one land on my pond after dark, I jumped out of my bunk, grabbed a flashlight to see what on earth was making that horrible noise that sounded like an ancient, massive, rusty gate! And there he stood, frog fishing! Birds really are relatives of the ancient dinosaurs, and I always marvel at them, from the smallest to the largest.

Sparkle, we don't have the flashy tropical type birds but we have eagles, blue heron, ospry, pelicans lots of them sea gull, one of the fisherman saw a eagle come and take a fish out of the river said it was about a 24 inch trout...have to agree those birds are so pretty.
