And Now It’s Tuesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

And Now It’s Tuesday

Postby Colliemom » Tue Apr 12, 2022 7:42 am

Morning from the 45th. Sunshine but chilly this morning, 30°. Heading up to around 60 eventually. Good day to work outside. Got both my appt. Done yesterday. No issues with the second booster other than a sore arm where she gave me the shot. Beth, I never heard of that having to get your shot where you had the last one either. Hope it warms up out there for you.

BJ, here are a couple sources for pure Maple syrup here where I am. Both of these farms are on FB, but one also has a website.

Hidden Acres Sugar Bush
https://hidden-acres-sugar-bush.myshopify.com/. You can also find thrm on FB under that name

Alpine Maple Farm
They don’t have a website but are on FB as well and they are happy to ship to all states. You can contact them via their FB page.

There is another one called Bragg Family Farm, also in FB, but not sure if thry just sell locally or what.

All of these are located near Gaylord. Their FB pages give you a good look at their syrup making process and how it’s done. Alpine Maple Fsrms also makes Maple sugar, Maple candy etc. Maple sugar which is pure natural sugar contains a number of natural vitamins and minerals and is better than refined sugar. Less is more with that sugar. Lot of people use it in recipes instead of white sugar and it’s great on oatmeal. You can find info and recipes online. Both syrup and sugar products are pure, no additives or anything added. One of natures gifts to us. It’s not rocket Science to make it, but it’s labor intensive on a large scale and requires investment in a lot of equipment. The averse backyard syrup maker just taps a few trees and boils the sap down in a pot over a fire or a portable gas burner outside, It’s a sure sign of spring in the north country. No calendar needed :)

Shirl, sounds like you have your “gardening g down to an art. And it’s thriving too. I agree, When Weather get too cold or frosty, we just move them inside the garage or cover like you say.
:D
Judy, don’t know if you are coming up to MI this summer, but if you happen to be thinking about the UP or Mackinaw, there’s gong to be major construction on I-75 and U.S.23 at MackinaW City involving deck replacement on the bridge carrying 23 into 75, total reconstruction of the entrance and exit ramps (all 3) resurfacing of 23 from 75 to Huron St etc. will involve some lane and shoulder closure, traffic shifts, detours through city streets etc. and as you know, Mackinaw doesn’t have a lot of city streets. Should be interesting. Then add the thousands of tourists that flock there on top of it. Don’t envy the locals. I’m sure it will create backups on the bridge as well, both north and southbound. But it will be done in stages, first one starting yesterday till Memorial Day and the rest from June to November. For those u familiar with Mackinaw City, it’s actually a village of around 800 residents, but hosts up to 1.2 million visitors a year during the season from May to October at which time the shops close for the winter and the locals get their town back.

I’ll be taking my annual spring ride up there before long, like to go when all is still quiet in town although there are more and more people going there in esrly spring, but nothing open yet. But for today, it’s heading outside to get some things done before weather goes downhill for rest of week. The POA walking path that I maintain needs it’s spring clean up, that’s on today’s agenda and don’t know what else. May e walk the dogs in the woods as !pMolly has been bugging me to go that way for awhile now, but was too snowy. Yesterday I moved 250 feet of split rain fencing that was under a tree to back of my shed and recovered it. Glad that’s done. Rambling on too much Ch here, so will wish you all a nice dsy and move on

WELL, an interesting few days here as we have a cold front in place. Now it is April and last week we were 85, that disappeared quickly. Snow was predicted for the surrounding mountains but nothing here on the valley floor. HA HA had a couple hours of snowfall with accumulation. It melted rather quickly after it quit thank goodness. This is part of my yard. Now this is just wrong. This is the first measureable snowfall ever in April for this part of the state. We got about another inch after I took this picture.

I have to go to Medford tomorrow but I am a bit worried about the drive down there as I have to go over 4 passes to get there. I have 3 appointments . 2 for my eyes and my infusion that was due in January. I will be watching the cameras on the passes tomorrow.

Gosh Karen, that is unusual for your area this time of year. Pretty normal for here though, as we can have snow showers as late as Mothers Day some years. I heard on the news that Portland was supposed to have a blizzard. Did that ever materialize? But it is moisture for the ground. Frozen rain

Hope the passes Stsy clear for your trip. Safe travels.

Morning Sue and All, had a morning shower and 67°Predicted oh! Joy, :D Trying to control my impulse to hit the road on a nice day. Could go check on milk jug garden at #1 daughters. She lives half an hour away and gas is expensive. Going to my favorite family owned garden center tomorrow for tomato plant, basil and other wonderful stuff. Lol I am also fighting the urge to buy Dollar Tree stackable planters. I do have one tiny space and they would look good. Guess not balcony might collapse. Was glad to see the sparrow did not move in and the tough little finches are rebuilding their nest. Wish I could protect them but not possible. Have enough lettuce from garden to make a big salad for dinner, add tuna fish, tomatoes, broccoli, shredded carrots and green onions. Now just need to find something to do instead of grabbing the car keys. Be safe

Lucky you, Karen.

Rain has been predicted each day here for the past 3 - 4 days. Not a drop. A chance of rain is also predicted here for the next few days. I'll believe it when I see it.

Thanks for posting the snow photo. It sure looks pretty.

Karen, I don't want any of your interesting weather. lol It wasn't supposed to rain yesterday but it did. There is a 70% chance of rain today but none close on the radar. I keep hearing talk of hail on the weather channel so I probably should put the truck under the carport.

I went to pick up some cat food and mail my tax payments. I have a dentist appointment tomorrow and I hope I don't forget to pick up some food for Sugar. I don't know how much difference there is in the different dog foods but I try to control her weight. Wish someone would control mine. lol It takes Sugar all day to eat and my son was worried about her not eating. He was putting beef broth on her food so of course she ate it right up but he was giving her too much food.

Sue, I will have to order some maple syrup. Maple syrup is my first choice. I seldom eat pancakes or waffles because by the time I get through with the butter and syrup it is probably 1,000 calories.

Good morning!

Karen, I think we have at least an inch of snow here. Hoping you can get over the passes! We were predicted to get 6-10 inches Thursday, but they have revised that to little or none. Still have tomorrow. Sue, busy as always! Shirl, that's some pretty impressive maintenance! We have a number for when office is closed, but I have no idea if it works. Judy, I always enjoyed the Spring headed north seeing things blooming along the way.

There was supposed to be an Easter egg hunt here today, but they postponed it. There are prizes and they suggest each person only take 2 or 3 eggs so everyone has a chance. Hmmm

Have a good day/evening!

Good afternoon!

Am just taking a break for lunch (at home). The ferocious winds  finally quieted down early this morning. I was so tired after work yesterday and fell asleep on my bed at 7:30pm, woke up at 11:30, put on my PJ's and went back to bed until 8am this morning. Went over to the putting course at 9. The lady I played with last week didn't show, so I played by myself and went around twice. :D It was a little breezy but much cooler! I debated about wearing a light jacket this morning but decided to enjoy the cooler temps without it.

After that, went to do a haircut and then Dave came over to look at my outside solar screens for the porch windows to rescreen them. That will also cut down on the heat coming in. The ones I have are shot so he took one home to rescreen it with some fabric he has and see how it looks before doing the rest of them.

Being that it is so nice out, I decided to clean up the deck and yard. One of the male cats has been spraying on my deck and on the furniture so I have been scrubbing all that down. Can't do much about the carpet tho. At least it will look clean. SO much dust all over everything! I hosed down most of what was on the deck and it is all drying in the sun. Still have a ways to go but needed a break for lunch. Just needed to take advantage of the cooler weather as we may not get any more nice days like this to work outside until fall.

Sheila, the robins will eat berries on the trees until they can get the worms out of the ground. I always worried about that too back in MN when they would return early and the ground was still frozen with snow on it.

I had a customer yesterday who had just flown down here from Portland to visit her mom for a few days. She said she had to get away from the snowstorm they were about to get hit with.

I finished the little gourd pencil holder for my manager. I hope she likes it. Still need to fix the cat thunder gourd yet. I am rethinking how I want the porch to be set up. My little table I set up is way too small. So I am thinking of putting up a 6' X 2' table against the back wall where I can have more room to work and have my supplies handy without them getting in my way while I work. I can keep all my gourd stuff on the back half of the porch that way and still have a nice sitting area in the front half. I could even put up a curtain to close off the back half so it isn't so visible when I am not working on stuff. Lots of work needed to do out there yet but that will be the next project before it gets super hot outside.

Finishing up my energy drink and then back to work outside! :D
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Karen, I had to cxl my trip into Cedar City today because the flurries predicted overnight came later and stronger and I didn't want to chance the pass I'd have to cross on the scenic road that gets me there. Luckily the pharmacy says no problem and I don't need a new appt. They'll take care of me when I get there, hopefully tomorrow. Then I called Walmart about my pickup order and they were super also and said they'd hold my order through tomorrow. I'm guessing I'm not the only one with this problem lol. This picture is a couple hours later from when I walked Ty. Oh and it was COLD, icy and slippery.
Image

I put together a bread basket I ordered from Amazon that arrived yesterday. Other than putting two pieces on backwards (which were early on and immediately fixed) it wasn't too bad. I think it'll work good for the bread for continental breakfast.

Meantime the high so far today is 31 on one weather app and 32 on another. It's expected trio head down now...down to 12 our lower tonight then heading to better temps. Please let this be the end of this weather!

Good Afternoon, Hi Karen in Texas! So good to see you posting.
Last week we had a heat wave, this week back to normal. I got stung by a bee in the pool yesterday. First time ever.. I always attempt to save them when they fall in the pool.
Barbie, I bought my first hyacinth of the year today. I ‘ve not seen this before, but the bulb was in a clear glass bowl. Must keep the bowl 3/4 full of water.
Sheryl, my older daughter road in that hole in the back of our VW bug many years ago.
I liked all the information on scams a few days ago.

Sue thanks for the links to the maple syrup! I think I'm going to order from Hidden Acres.

The weather seems to be crazy everywhere except at Barbies. It was cloudy off and on here but there is a tornado watch tonight though tomorrow. I took Pippa for a walk this afternoon continuing her training to walk nice on a leash. She is doing pretty good considering all the distractions. Toby had serious digestion issues during the night so I gave him a dose of DiaGel that worked great. I order it from Chewys it is around $13.00 for a dose but it is totally worth keeping it on hand. Not the way I wanted to start my morning, he usually wakes me up if he needs out during the night but guess I was sleeping too sound or he didn't have time.

I had a really great massage today and would like to have just stayed on the table for a nap.

Beth hope you and Ty can stay warm if it gets down to 12 degrees!
