Happy Saturday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Happy Saturday

Postby Bethers » Sat Apr 02, 2022 9:22 am

Brrrr, it's only 29 degrees out right now so Ty and I are still cuddling in bed. It'll get to the mid 60's and sunny today which will be beautiful. Just cold now. In an hour or so I'll move the RV. It'll be nice to be able to settle in my site and move some things into the motel office (kitchen, bathroom and extra room area). I'll probably spend little time in the RV except sleeping.

Morning Beth and All, it’s sunny and 45° Tried to post a picture of tulip bulb planter but not successful. Bake Martha Stuart’s “Easy pan pizza” last night and it was good. Mine had more mushrooms and sausage than Dominoes. Lol it’s chilly this morning but #2 daughter is hitting the yard sale circuit. I ask her to find a heavy duty plant caddy for my upcoming tomato plant. Broke a wheel on last year’s plastic one. Friend, Edith says she doesn’t have live plants because they are a nuisance. She has two cats and a dog. We all need something to care for. I now have 9 houseplants to care for and more recipes to try. Be safe

Pat, I checked my new Anthurium plant. Son of a gun, didn’t notice that but it has been a long time.

Good morning, Beth and all who follow.

LOL - since you asked. . . happy to do so!!

I am having a lot of fun getting a bit deeper into learning "product photography" (in order to photograph my jewelry items for my online Etsy jewelry 'shop' - a steep and difficult learning curve, for sure). Truthfully, it is being a bit of a challenge (both the photography and setting up my online store) but also being a lot of fun.

I have always had (as many of you here know) an intense interest in all things volcano. In trying to come up for a name for my Etsy shop I finally decided on "The Stone Wind".

A 'stone wind' is a pyroclastic flow, an event that can happen during a volcanic eruption. Imagine a ground-hugging wave of gas and stone, maybe 50 feet tall, temperature about twelve-hundred degrees, coming at you at around five-hundred miles per hour - and one begins to get the picture of what a pyroclastic flow is all about.

Basically, if one is standing around in reach of such a flow, one does not live to tell about it. This famously happened some years ago to a couple of celebrated vulcanologists who 'misjudged' their location when Mt. Unzen in Japan began to erupt:

https://volcano.oregonstate.edu/faq/who-were-maurice-and-katia-krafft-how-did-they-die

After I had spent a LOT of time designing a logo for my "storefront" (erupting volcanoes, towering ash clouds, hurling red-hot rocks, spurting flame) it finally occurred to me (I can be a slow learner sometimes) that these kinds of images are - perhaps (LOL) - not the most "welcoming" for someone looking to calmly browse an online jewelry store, but rather images of disaster and destruction that would more than likely motivate visitors to just get gone asap.

I was stumped! I finally decided to keep the 'stone wind' name (I still liked the actual name, and I'm guessing that few normal people would know what an actual stone wind is, anyway) and go with a more calming and welcoming image of a beautiful mountain lake at night. I call it my "Lake Tahoe" image, but I don't know what lake it is - the photo almost resembles Mt. Mazama, in Oregon (Mazama is the exploded volcano wherein Crater Lake National Park resides - another volcano!). I got the image off of one of those free image sites.

That, of course led to it's own set of problems - i.e., how could my logo photo suggest a lake at night, without the photo being too dark? Wrestled with that for several more hours using PhotoShop (as stated above), what is there is what I finally settled on. At least for now.

Anyway, this whole Etsy thing is being a tremendous amount of fun for me, I have been motivated to work more steadily at making new jewelry pieces (I recently received a request to make a custom item for someone! A thrill for sure!) and this hobby keeping me quite occupied during the (hopefully) waning days of The Plague.

I do realize that 'women of a certain age' (like us!) already have all of the jewelry they will ever need, having put together their own personal collection over a lifetime.

On the other hand, if anyone is would like to take a look at my work (which, admittedly, is kind of strange and weird), I hope you will visit my Etsy store (link below). I welcome and appreciate input - you can message me using the link on my storefronts page (or, even better, just post your comments here!), and tell me why you like it (this helps in the creative process).

Thanks so much!

Ok, shutting up now, looking forward to reading what everyone else has been up to!

Thanks. :D

Good Morning, I now will have a little giggle with me all day after reading Shirlv's post! Beth glad you will soon be settled in place and that you and Ty enjoy your stay. Anne it sounds as though you are enjoying getting your Esty site going. Not much going on here still trying to keep Pippa reasonable quiet and trying to keep her hair combed out. About a week ago the texture of her hair seemed to change overnight and I have to brush her every day. I'm in search of a groomer, they are as hard to find as a good doctor!!

Good evening ladies!

I'm looking for advice from Beth or Judy as to why I've been getting a General Error message in the recipes forum for the last two days. I just want to c/p a recipe that I sent Sheila. It looks to me like I'll have to type it out. Any suggestions? It's a recipe I got from Pintrest and I was able to c/p it Sheila in a PM.

Irmi, there is bad code in the recipe that you can't see. That happens sometimes when copying from some websites.

Shirl, your tulip is posted in the general room.

Anne, I love the name but am glad you decided to not make the design not match jewelry.

Love the tulip. One of my favorites. I am going to be transplanting my houseplants tomorrow. I need a couple more nice pots, not too big but so they can grow into them. There are 2 cacti, African violet, and my anthurium. So far they all look great and I am trying to keep it that way. I am much better with outdoor plants. I never could have houseplants before as I was gone for months at a time, that doesnt foster healthy houseplants LOL

Need to fix the band on my fitbit, it came apart and I have just been too lazy to fix it BUT maybe tomorrow. I like to see how I slept but I can tell if I sleep good or bad so a few days wont hurt me.

I am having a baked potato tonite for dinner. I call it my baked potato bar. Butter, cheese, sour cream, and bacon bits. Easy peasy. I just pop it in the micro for a couple of minutes, then cut it in half then pop it in the air fryer to crisp up the skin after spritzing with olive oil and finish cooking the potato.

I am at a state park in northern TN, almost into the Kentucky, and temps last night went down to 29. Luckily, before i went to bed, it was already getting cold inside with only one electric heater, so I went outside (quickly) and got my other one out. I am running a bit short of propane so trying to conserve it so I don't run out before I can get a refill. Not sure if this small town will have any, but I think I can last until tomorrow or maybe Tuesday. It would be 20 miles to next town, so not going to drive around until I can call and confirm. I need to run out one day to get eggs and butter and maybe pick up a pizza, but mostly I am staying put here.

There was a small group of disorganized tenters down the way, and they packed up and left around noon today. I say disorganized because they had stuff spread all over their cement pad campsite. I suspect they did not have warm enough sleeping bags or other gear because it was such a spread out mess there. Oh, and it also rained a little last night, so not a good time for amateur camping. Everyone else is in a trailer or motorhome, so we were fine. Low tonight is going to be 39, which is much better.

Got a lot of catching up to do with expenses for all the stuff I bought my aunt. Going to be confusing going through all the receipts because it bought, returned, and rebought in new sizes, so much stuff.

I am staying here until Friday and then headed to northern KY for one night and then five nights in southern OH, on the eastern side of the state. But going to be cold in both places, so I hope it warms up soon in my son's area!!

this weekend is general conference for our church (we have it twice a year one in April and one in Oct.) so spent a lot of time in front of tv.. enjoy the talks...
finally figured out something for supper that I had all of the stuff for ... taco's!!! even frozen taco meat in freezer... had tomatoes, onion, lettuce all needed...
it's been windy today... and feels colder I think due to the wind... zero percent chance of rain or snow though...
I'm going to have to go back and look at that plant
speaking of plants been looking at the Becks catalog there is one plant called Frozen Queen Calla Lily looks so interesting... very tempting  I have a hard time going into a nursery of any type and not come home without a plant even the grocery store I have to dodge that area as the cylemen and shamrock I just bought over the last month will attest.
I like the name of your store Anne you could put a big full moon over the lake casting light on it
or maybe make it twilight so it's not totally dark but close to it...
sounds like you still need to linger south a bit long Judy...
glad you are there Beth looked to see how far away you are just a mere 8 hours :(
snow in the yard is almost gone yesterday there was 2 deer in mom's yard and 2 in the other yard guess the other yard was "greener" as the 2 jumped the fence and then they all headed into another yard... one must have been a bit younger as it took him a bit to figure out the fence but did... saw a picture of a very rare deer want to say it was spotted in one of the south west states was going to narrow it down but don't recall but it was a black deer the opposite of an albino...
we could possibly see the norther lights tonight if it wasn't cloudy :( sure hope we get to see them when in AK...
you all have a great day

Nothing much new here today. Wasn't too busy at work and I got off at 3. Still reading the Kindle book that Karen recommended. Sure gives a whole different side to the cholesteral/heart disease theory. :?

Off to bed...

Barbie,
Good to hear that you are still reading the book about cholesterol. That’s exactly what we need to do, check things out and do our homework.

Of course it makes sense that there is a whole new twist to the cholesterol/ heart disease theory. That’s exactly what the sugar industry did with the sugar vs. fat theory. Blame fat for all the health problems that actually SUGAR is causing. Everyone went on a low fat diet and then wondered why their inflammation increased. They wanted to put a huge damper on the keto health diet. And the sugar industry lobbies Congress and you can figure out the rest!

I say these things because I believed all that stuff. But since then, I went on the keto way of eating and eliminated sugar and grains from my diet. I not only lost weight but actually felt so much better, ditched the cholesterol and high blood pressure medicine and I take no prescription drugs. I’m 70 years old and people actually think I’m younger because of the energy I have. I also eat organic foods.

I know organic is expensive but I was told…” pay now ($)…. Or pay later (poor health).

Anyway, sorry to go on and on, but you know how it is when you are adamant about something and know that it works.

I found out how little time doctors spend in keeping up with medical progress. They depend on that “rep” that comes into the office and shows them the new and latest big pharma drug for this and that. Kind of like the beauty salon rep that used to come into my shop and push products.I know, because I was in the business.

I found out that doctors get a monetary incentive for choosing certain drugs over others. And my primary care doctor just rolls his eyes if I mention anything natural, holistic, or taking real supplements.
That’s my experience with this and I felt obliged to share it. Karen

Karen, I was so happy to read your post! Yes doctors are paid for prescribing certain medications, you can search by state which doctor makes the most $$$ from drugs they prescribe. It used to be easy to find but I just looked and the sites I found wanted me to register. I do think one needs to have regular checkups to keep track of sugar etc levels but I don’t think jumping right in with drugs is always the answer. I have chosen organic food as much as possible for over 20 years and avoid toxic products. If you do a little research you can easily find safer and cheaper alternative ways to clean. I use baking soda and cheap white vinegar for most cleaning and laundry. There are several books available, one is Clean & Green by Annie Berthold-Bond. Simmering or microwaving spices like cinnamon and cloves in a bit of water/vinegar mix is a safe air freshener. Other information that has been made difficult to find is Material Safety Data Sheets. I haven’t been able to find free access for the real ones online for quite awhile. The ones you do find are made by the company. It is sad that one has to depend on outside research to keep on top of ones health. I haven’t had a check up in several years where the doctor actually touched my body anywhere except to listen to my heart and usually they stop at each spot for such a short time they couldn’t possible hear much! The last lab work I had needed to be repeated twice as they left out parts of the tests and I was the one who noticed, not the doctor. I always request an A1C that measures your sugar over a period of time as that doesn’t seem to be routinely checked. I think doing yoga and going for acupuncture has also been very beneficial to my health. I just heard of a doctor here who referred someone for acupuncture! Having Trigeminal Neuralgia has made me even more aware of how broken our system really is. I am so thankful I was able to connect to a medical doctor in Brazil who also practices homeopathic medicine. Our appointments are online using WhatsApp which is free and is similar to Zoom.

I have looked into the Keto diet before. I think now I need to look into it again a little more seriously. I know I eat mostly carbs and sugar, so I need to move away from that.

I also don't trust doctors. I went thru all that with my hormone issues. They know almost nothing about hormones and want to either ignore the problems or give you HRT's without even testing your hormone levels. I went the more natural route instead, after doing a lot of research. And yes, doctors do not want to talk about natural or homeopathic treatments since they don't know anything about them and don't get kickbacks from recommending them.

I appreciate everyone's input about this!
