Hello from HOT Zion

Well we made it to Glendale, UT yesterday. Took the kids to the cave and the sand dunes...and it was hot. So we returned to the RV park. The owners let the kids run through the sprinklers in the apple orchard. We had planned on spending a few hours at the sand dunes and having a BBQ dinner...it was just too hot. On the way out DH suggested if we found a Baskin Robbins he would buy ice cream. Well we did not find a baskin robbins...but I did find a little Rock shop in Orderville, that had a sign that said "Ice Creme Cones". So we stopped there.

Today we spent the entire day in Zion. We packed a lunch, but ended up eating a late lunch at the cafe at the lodge. We just didn't want to take the shuttle back down and back up again. IT was HOT...according to the park ranger..the high temp at their weather station was 104 degrees today.

We did 3 hikes..we hike to all 3 Emerald pools. The upper one was quite a challenge, but so worth it. It was only .03 miles...but it is not longer a maintained trail.
Then we went back to lodge/cafe had ice cream. Then it was back on the shuttle and further in..we hike to Weeping Rock. This was a short 1/2 mile walk and it was much cooler behind the water drips. (they call it a water fall).

Then we were back on the shuttle and did the River Walk..it is 1 mile path. Then my 12 year old son and I...we were the only one's willing to get our hikers wet...hiked further down into what is called The Narrows...we only went about 15 minutes. This is one I would love to do much further...but with better plans..since it is one that you will get wet.

I did finally get pictures downloaded to the lap top. I will work on getting some uploaded to photobucket...then post the pictures. To give you an idea...I have taken 1100 pictures so far this trip. As you see I have some sorting to do.

Kris..
Tomorrow we are off to the Family Reunion in Pinetop.

What a busy, busy, HOT trip you are having! I am loving the 70s and 80s degree weather we are having, but I think 104 would stress me out a bit! It sounds as if you aren't letting the heat slow you down very much, however! Hope the reunion will be fun. I can't WAIT to see some of the thousands of pics you have taken!

Have a fun time!

I felt overheated just listening to you say 'it was hot' several times. It's much cooler here in the NW today, only getting into the high 60s, and hopefully that will make its way SW and cool off your area. Well, we can hope. :D
I'm so enjoying your family outing and look forward to pictures of one of my favorite states.
