Really Wednesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Really Wednesday

Postby SoCalGalcas » Wed Mar 30, 2022 11:04 am

Good Morning, I know it is Wednesday because the computer is telling me it is!
My daughter is worried I am going to get “scammed “ by crooks. She keeps telling me to question and ask for help on any email that doesn’t look legitimate. An elderly lady just got scammed here a couple of days ago. Lost $84,000 . Very sad. I hope I have enough brain power left to take care of myself. Judy, it is sad about your aunt. For some reason Kaiser Pharmacist called my daughter to ask her if I was able to handle my medications by myself. She told him there were no problems with my mind!
Although I do get into problems with the computer. I love the computer when it works correctly. When it doesn’t, that is so frustrating!!!
We received very little rain from this latest storm. I didn’t even miss a day in the pool.

The memory facility does each patient's laundry separately in smaller machines, not the big commercial ones. That helps keep clothing and other stuff separate. We supply sheets and other bedding, as well as towels and bath mats. We also supply Depends and wipes, shampoo and all other cosmetics. Frankly, we like that because we can provide better quality and the brands my aunt likes, especially when it comes to soap and shampoo and the like.

The place is divided into four "neighborhoods," each with about a dozen rooms. Most are single but some are double rooms. (Rooms are very large and have two closets in each so conversion is easy.) Also, each neighborhood has a separate dining room where only residents of that area eat. Food is delivered to each person on a hot cart and the residents are allowed to choose what they want to eat. Plates are served as the resident watches. This reduces taking orders and having the person forget what they ordered! And each neighborhood also has its own laundry room and caregivers assigned to that area. Makes it a lot more personal and residents cannot get lost in a smaller area.

Also, residents closets are kept locked, as are residents doors. There is always someone to let them in, but this keeps wandering residents from going through someone else's belongings, and it keeps clothing in closets instead of on the floor. The neighborhoods, I think, made it easier to control COVID there. They have no deaths and only one hospitalization of longer than a couple of days. (They sent all sick residents to the hospital to get intravenous treatment, and then they came back home. Most sick residents were moved to the movie theatre where they set up hospital beds and served food there to anyone testing positive.)

They do join all residents in a central area for entertainment and daily 2 pm ice cream cones, but they are escorted back to the right areas afterwards. The smaller neighborhoods was one reason I liked this facility when I first saw it. Most places had lone corridors and no separation of residents. Also, it is only one floor and only memory care with maybe 60 residents. Expensive, but a place I would hope someone would put me if I have to go somewhere someday.

Got to run to get stuff out of dryer!

Hi Lyn and all that check in!

Lyn, thank you for checking in so regularly! Yes, if you have any doubts about emails, contact your daughter. I'm so glad you're able to go to the pool regularly. Judy, you just posted and your aunt is very fortunate to have you to take care of things for her. Unfortunately, due to her dementia, she doesn't recognize what you do.

Martha, your name came up in conversation today, with hopes the storms aren't too severe in your area. I know there are others on our forum that are in the regions of this front moving in, so please stay safe. We're going to get winds this afternoon and evening and are at a marginal risk of severe weather tomorrow.

I made some jalapeno poppers yesterday, adding browned sausage to the cream cheese, parmesan & mozzarella cheese. They were so good and easy to make. Today Steve plans on cooking brats on the Egg and we'll have a couple sides to go with them. Since tomorrow may be wet, collard greens cooked with a meaty ham are on the menu.

We just had a few emergency vehicles stop up the road we're on. Hope it wasn't anything too serious.

Be safe everyone.

I'm with you Lyn, my computer tells me what day it is if I'll just look. I get a lot of emails telling me accounts have been closed, things have been ordered and wanting to give me things. I just report them as phishing. If I need to call a company I look up their number. Never use a phone number in an email.

Here I go again, I'm under a tornado and flash flood watch. My step daughter called and wanted to know if I was leaving. Leaving to go where. The whole state is under a watch or warning. If it looks bad I'll just go in the old house. It withstood a 6' tidal surge. The wind has kind of slowed down. Irmi, you all will probably get the weather I have tomorrow. I don't think I have ever eaten jalapeño poppers. I like greens and ham but seldom ever cook it. If I go to the Piccadilly Cafateria I always get turnip greens and broccoli as sides. Ok, now I'm hungry. lol

Good morning,

Martha, keeping good thoughts for all of you in the storm's path. Judy, sad about your aunt, but you are seeing that she is well taken care of. Karen and Barbie, thanks for the Tracfone idea, but this has become more about them not getting a phone to me in a timely manner. No one seems to care. Lyn, you just keep that brain power working!

BFF is coming on train at 8 tonight. Kids and I went to tavern in little nearby town for taco Tuesday. There was some sort of mixup and they waited a bit for their tacos. Owners comped our meals and drinks, but we paid anyway. I had nachos - first time without real cheese (Cheez Whiz maybe) and I won't order those again. Daughter's daffodils and hyacinths are blooming. They have started cleaning up the landscape here at the apartments.

Good morning gals!

Still hanging out in bed. Been doing a lot of research on the internet. Got my blood test results. Everything was in the normal range except for one thing. My LDL cholesteral is at 271. I am sure I will be getting a phone call soon from my doctor about that! I guess my diet is gonna change drastically now. Need to start exercising too. My calcium levels were borderline high too. Not sure what that means. Glucose levels were not bad, in the normal range. Any thoughts on what meds are good/safe and which ones to avoid??

Need to get up here and get back to work on the porch. First thing is a trip to Home Depot.

Weather is nice with a light breeze and clear blue skies. Will be in the 80's today.
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Barbara, avoid statins! All of them. No research shows they truly help in a person who has not had a heart attack! And side effects are horrendous. Lots of info and new research when you search. What are your triglycerides and HDL as they are the most important numbers. My triglycerides dropped by 50% in just 6 weeks of low carb as triglycerides are driven by carbohydrates. You want triglycerides and HDL close to same.
It's a cool cloudy day here and I'm heading to Curves.

Barbie, in 2021 my Cholesterol dropped from 274 to 218 and all I did was start eating oatmeal for breakfast. They consider a serving to be a 1/2 cup of oatmeal which is 150 calories. I try to keep my calories down so I was only eating 1/4 cup of oatmeal cooked in 1/2 cup of water. I haven't been able to get it checked lately because I haven't been able to give blood because my blood count was too low. One of these days I will go to an actual doctor and get checked.

Good morning. Went to Lowes with my neighbor as he wanted to get a couple of plants and since he has to use a walker for now wanted me to push the cart because he cant do both. I didnt mind, Lowes is right next door to us. He didn't find what he was looking for so the only person that bought anything was ME. I had a beautiful Antherium plant that was BIG and had so many blooms on it but of course lost it in the fire. They had them inside at Lowes so of course one came home with me. It is small but it will grow. I just love the blossoms on it, they are pretty unique. I didn't buy any more plants yet as I need to wait a couple more weeks before I can count on the weather. We are dipping down in a cold front end of the week so no sense buying anything now.

My doc wanted to put me on Statins and I totally refused. One of my old neighbors went on them and when I went to visit her she could hardly move. Her legs were weak and her back hurt. She was very active, rode her bike, hiked, and then was chair bound. I had told her why I refused them but ya know if the doc says he wants you to have them they do it. She went to her chiropractor and she told her it was probably from the statins. She told her I mentioned how bad they are and that I refused them. So she went off of them and a year later she is still not 100% but so much better. I wont even let them draw a lipid panel anymore because what is the point???? I am definitely NOT going on statins. Most of the time they only look at total cholesterol but the hdl and triglycerides and your ratio are much more important. I think people should do the research and decide for themselves if this is something they think will help them. We are all responsible for our own health and the internet makes research easier from reputable sources. Diet can play a huge part in keeping your numbers in line. Low carb is the diet I like to follow most of the time. I am not strict about it all the time but it is one I like and I do not feel deprived.

Time to rustle up something for lunch now

I still agree to a lipid panel annually so that I can see how I'm doing with my diet and natural supplements. Yes, I'm another who will not take statins. Unlike the others I don't watch my carbs. But when I'm eating right fruits and veggies comprise 50 plus percent of my meals.

I've been having rain off and on all day with the winds. I've been intending to hook up sewer and dump but it's not critical so I doubt it'll happen.

I'm binge watching the Portland season of Top Chef yesterday and today.

Good Afternoon All, really no news to post but Karen peaked my interest with her new anthurium plant. Never heard of it but now want one. Checked on line and Easton Lowes will have eight plants tomorrow. Problem is tomorrow weather predicts wind, rain and chance of tornados tomorrow. Will check again Friday morning. Went to the $ store this morning still looking for 6” glass bowl to make solar lamp. Every aisle was jammed pack with boxes and they can not find employees to work. I told the young cashier if I worked there and saw that mess I would cry. Her feelings too. Bought ingredients for Martha Stuart’s easy pan pizza and for fish tacos. Beth, I tried your seasoning on fresh asparagus in the air fryer, was good. Found several more recipes to try at another time. I refused to take statins also. Just left the balcony garden covered because the temperatures have been too cold. I impatiently wait for nice weather. I do read post and care about everyone. Wish smiles and good heath for all. Be safe

Lyn, the scamming situation seems to grow worse by the day, with no end in sight. I fear that "brain power" has little to do with it. These scams are getting so intricate and pervasive that even really smart people are being duped.

Be careful everyone. It's a jungle out there. :(

Anne, just got that Amazon email about my account today too. I just made some changes to my account no long before that email popped up. Wasn’t sure if it was legimate or not, so out of curiosity I opened it and read it and promptly se t it to trash. Wasn’t long before a slightly different t one appeared and that promptly got trashed too. One of the changes I made in my account was to remove my payment information, in other words, My credit card info. Amazon keeps your credit card info on file when you place an order if you are a registered customer. I don’t trust Amazons security. They have been breached once before. Earlier this morning I got a notice from the bank about the credit card I used on Amazon to make a recent order last week, that somebody had tried to use the card number aat some travel agency in Las Vegas and they declined it and closed out the card. Once I saw the email I immediately clicked it was not me and a reply came back saying that they would call me to verify my information. I called them instead and it was indeed a fraudulent charge. So the account has is closed and a new credit card has been issued. I haven’t had any issues with it until I placed an order for Amazon. An order from Amazon on the way right now and as soon as I receive it I’m closing my account with Amazon. I’m lucky if I use them once a year anyway. I am also fortunate in that my security system that is in my phone and my iPad and my computer or immediately alerts me if any emails that are fraudulent or suspected of being fraudulent if I should happen to open one. I have a habit of deleting emails without opening them. Except for those that I know are confirmations from something I may have ordered, or something that I know is legitimate.

Anne, I have an older HP computer that is still running on windows 8.7. How can I tell if I can hook up an external monitor to it. Doing all this genealogy work I would rather have a bigger screen.

The storm has passed here and was mostly heavy rain. Barbie a friend of mine who is a nurse can't take the statins and she said this product really worked for her.
https://www.costco.com/nature-made-chol ... 03392.html You could probably get it most any place that sells Nature Made brands.

It is impossible to keep Pippa quiet. She keeps wanting to jump on me and when I put her in her pen she jumps around trying to get out. I need a straight jacket, now she is racing around the room. I asked for pain meds in case she needed them as she seems to be extra pain sensitive. She was pretty uncomfortable this morning so I gave her a dose. She got really crazy then so I called the vet to see if she was having a reaction. They said no and that was why they usually didn't send pain meds home with them. The medicine makes them feel different and I guess the feeling of pain changes. She said pain meds should only be given if they are really crying or screaming in pain. Now way didn't they tell me that yesterday. The medicine should have worn off by now though it's been ten hours.

OK, here are my numbers. I think I had it wrong earlier...I put the total cholesteral number

Total cholesteral... 271
Tryglycerides ....... 110
HDL ....................60
LDL ...................192
VLDL cholest..........19

I guess I need to learn to like oatmeal and avocados  I would prefer to avoid drugs if I can, and try to go the healthier food and exercise route. I will stay away from the statins. They don't sound like a good option. I am planning to go thru my cupboards in my kitchen and get rid of stuff I don't want or use. I guess now I will be getting rid of a lot more stuff that is full of bad things for me. I guess all that cheese I got from my neighbor last night is a no-no now, too. :(

Got a little more done in the porch. My work table area is done. Curtains up (except for the two rods I am still waiting for), got a power strip up on the wall in front of the table for my electric tools.

Got more spray foam insulation and filled the rest of the gaps in the corrugated roof. There are a few spots I missed and I think the can is almost empty so may have to get another one. Only $3.75 per can at HD.

When I came home from HD the front gate still wouldn't open for me. The security guard said that when the strip on the windshield gets removed, the chip in it comes off so it can't be stolen and used by someone else. So I had to go the office and get a new one.

Drove the new cart around. It has no extras like my cart had. Just off/on, forward/reverse. The seat is high and I can barely reach the pedals. My seat was adjustable but this one isn't. But I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth. Just glad to have it for when I need it. I will put a pillow behind me so I can sit more forward on it to reach the pedals.

Got some other things straightened up around here. Am giving Lola a little more of the canned food since she seems to be tolerating it pretty good now. She loves it. I mix in the CBD oil (for cats) in it too.

I have also come close to falling for scams on-line. They sound so legitimate now days. My scam radar is always on tho, after what happened to my dad.
