And it's Tuesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

And it's Tuesday

Postby Bethers » Tue Mar 29, 2022 11:52 am

Boy am I glad I decided not to travel again today and tomorrow. The winds arrived early and I'm rocking and rolling.

I wandered through the casino this morning. I didn't look for the cheap machines as those might tempt me. They didn't have blackjack tables open yet so those couldn't tempt me. Good for me, that's for sure. I haven't eaten at a McDonald's in a long long time but walked in. Luckily if I got anything I would have wanted to try the green chili cheeseburger but they were still serving breakfast and I don't see myself walking back over there as the winds get even worse. Walking Ty will be quick affairs, if I can convince him that that's important lol.

Nothing much to say but I'd love to read about all your days.

Good morning!

Beth, glad you don't feel you have to be on the road! BJ, so glad your cataract removal has been a quicker success this time! Irmi, I pretty much gave up on makeup when in the desert. We gals rode without it, but another group would wear makeup, jewelry and improper shoes. Now my eyes are so droopy I have no eyelids! Tina, hope your household is feeling better.

BFF is having issues with her dog so won't know if she's coming tomorrow until this evening after vet appointment. Monica has offered to cut my hair this afternoon to save me a trip to Wenatchee and then we'll go to Taco Tuesday.

Anyone have any suggestions on steps I can take to get my phone? Seattle TV stations have a consumer segment for such things, but who knows how long it would be before they got to it. If Diane comes, I'll at least have access to a phone to make calls.

Good morning to all - Beth good thing you stayed put. That storm went through here yesterday and Bill clocked one gust at 72mph. All kinds of things blowing around and down. One big sign blew done on top of a parked car. Totaled. We got a good amount, for Vegas, of rain and more expected tonight with more winds, but not so bad.
Been keeping busy doing catch up things. Have RV out front today to finish cleaning and putting away clean things. Then have to take it to get smog so can register it. Next month both cars need to get done. Have got in several over 10,000 steps days lately. Go walking with a group M, W and Fridays. Easier to commit with others going.
Bill is already talking about a summer trip leaving in May. We'll see. He is already bored.
Every one take care. Hope it quits snowing up north one of these days.

Got my errands finished. Came home made some lunch, cleaned up the kitchen and now time to just veggie out. Bought some new sheets at Costco as I really like their sheets so will put them on my bed tomorrow.

I need to start some spring cleaning in a couple of weeks, need to clean my blinds and windows (ugh) but just do a couple a day. My blinds do get dusty for some unknown reason ha ha

Had a little rain overnight but nothing measureable. Might have a shower tonight too we shall see. Also time to wash my car and get the grime off. Bought some stuff to take the film off my headlights so will just need a little elbow grease for that job. Nothing else very exciting. Anita why not buy a cheap tracphone and just purchase some minutes. I would be crazy without my phone for many reasons.

Good afternoon gals!

Got up to go putt this morning. 10 others showed up including 2 husbands! Was quite breezy and cool this morning but with a light sweater on, it felt good. I played pretty good but got my ball in the water for the first time! Was able to fish it out and keep going. Was nice to play a relaxing round with no scores to keep track of. Most of those who showed up today will be leaving for their northern homes this week so next Tuesday I may be alone.

Rained a little off and on all night. Clouds were still over the mountains so I couldn't tell if they got much snow up there.

My windshield guy showed up at 10:30. Took him about an hour to replace the windshield. Cost $250 which was $100 cheaper than the other shop I checked on. I need to go to WM and Home Depot but need to wait a bit before driving the car.

I started cleaning up and rearranging the porch. I took out the 2 saucer chairs and moved a table to that corner for my gourd working area so I can get started on my projects (I have been just working while sitting on the couch which isn't working very well  ). I took down the blinds (which were shot) on the 2 windows in that corner and am putting up the new rods and black-out curtains there. I bought brackets for the rods but they are too big, but discovered the rods come with their own smaller brackets, so I will just return the other ones. However, the screws for the brackets are too long and won't go all the way in (drill only went in about an inch before hitting something hard) so I need to go get shorter screws. Once that corner is done, I will start on the other windows. The windows are all different sizes and lengths but was able to find the curtains in several sizes to fit each window. Might have to get some hemmed later but that will be an easy fix. The color of the teal curtains are perfect! I love that they are the same color on both back and front. They match the teal around the windows outside.I am wondering tho if I can spray them with something to keep them from fading in the sun. Any ideas?...

Working on the porch was not on my to-do list for today, but I figure anything I am motivated to work on is a win!
I was asked to work on Thursday but turned it down. I need to keep working on all this stuff so I can just concentrate on gourd stuff for the summer.

Anita, I was thinking the same thing as Karen. You could just go to WM and pick up a trackfone (or similar) and buy a months worth of time for it until you get your new phone. They don't cost much and the monthly fee is about $36 or so and no contract. That is all I use and I get unlimited calls and text.

Carol, those are really strong winds! Ours weren't as bad yesterday as we have had recently and it is quite breezy today but not blowing stuff around much. Feels good actually. The rain settled the dust so none of that blowing around today. Also no smoke smell from the mulch fire that was probably finally put out by the rain too. Beth, good thing you stayed put! No sense taking chances on the road if you don't have to be there for a few more days.

I decided to sub-Q Lola today. She looks a little dehydrated and I still have an unopened lactated ringer bag. She loves her new canned food! Her stools are a little soft so am just giving her a teaspoonful a couple times a day with her dry food.

I guess I can head out to shop now. It has been over an hour so should be good. He said to keep the tape on it until tomorrow. Just need to avoid any big bumps along the way for the next few days.

Have a good day and hang on to your hats!

Anita, one reason I have two phones is for places where one might not have service or if something happens to one at least I still have a phone. Then going with Visible for me was a happy accident on my 2nd phone awhile back. Only two people have that number so it never rings, lol, but I know I can use it. This doesn't help you now but something to think about.

Barbie, hopefully there will be a couple others that hang out throughout the summer and when the weather allows you can continue playing golf.

Never fear--I am not going to get to southeastern Ohio until April 9, and then I will be near my son in northeastern Ohio by April 14. I need to renew my Driver's license so I have a new valid one by the day I leave for UK, which is May 22. I was told it would take less than two weeks because I already have the compliant card. Then I have a ton of doctors and dentist appointments the week of April 18.

I am exhausted from visiting my aunt and doing a bunch of shopping for clothing items the caregivers say she needs. Biggest problem is that she has gained some weight around her hips and is also wearing Depends now, so had to move to new size. She is barely 5' tall and has always been tiny. Was wearing size 8, but I tried on Petite Medium pants and they were too small. Hope the Petite Large ones will fit her. And I will still need to shorten them almost an inch! Got her a bunch of new towels and wash cloths, two new nightgowns, 6 pairs of slacks, and 6 shirts. A lot of her stuff is stained and old, but she will not let anyone toss anything, so on Thursday, I am going to sneak in just as she goes to lunch and the one caregiver and i will work on her closets!!! I will bring bags and take stuff to car when she is not looking, but we will have only one hour to do all of this!! She and the other caregivers are going to put stuff as they help her get dressed in a "toss" box. They are not allowed to throw anything out.

The big problem today is that she was very upset with me and kept questioning me about why I had put her in that place and what had I done with her husband. She got angrier and angrier and said she hated me for separating them and how cruel that was. She wanted to know where she was so she could call him on the phone. I arrived at 10:30 am and realized she needed to cool down because within 30 minutes she was shouting and crying and calling me names. She has never acted this way, and you all know that her husband passed away two years ago. But we cannot tell her that because it causes several hours of crying and anger for us not letting her see him before he died, etc. etc. Anyway, it was all completely nuts. and there was no way to really answer her. Caregivers tell me she has been refusing to participate in stuff for last few months, so I contacted doctor and am waiting to hear from her about personality change. I know most of it is just the dementia, but it is also depression and maybe other stuff.

So, I left after an hour and did a bunch of shopping. Got back at about 2:30 pm and had time to talk to caregiver privately. When my aunt came back from bingo and ice cream, I managed to have her try on one pair of pants, but that at least gave me an idea about sizes. And she apologized, but started into the stuff again about how she hated me. I chatted with her for another hour, but left when she got upset. (I did find out that she calmed down later.) Went back to store and returned three pairs of pants for larger size. Took towels, nightgowns, and shirts home and will wash them tomorrow.

WHEW!!

Judy, you sure have your hands full with your aunt. Nursing homes are not a fun place. I always tried to go see Harold at a meal time so I could help him eat.

I had my root canal today and I have to say that this dentist is really good. He gave me so much pain medicine that my face was numb up to my eyes. Afterwards the assistant gave me 4 Ibuprofen and told me to take another 4 in 6 hours. I'm not in pain at all so don't know about taking more. I had soup for supper. My regular dentist tells the root canal guy to put a temporary filling and I have to go back to her for a permanent filling. This sounds like a money making scheme to me. I don't know how soon they want to do that but I'm going to New Orleans next week.

Sheila, I am going to the rally in my motorhome but we are going to be bussed around New Orleans. I think we are going to 2 museums and 2 plantation houses. I hope we don't have to do a lot of walking. My foot is feeling better but it wouldn't take much to aggravate it again. I'm not real crazy about some of the food in New Orleans. There is a difference between Creole and Cajun cooking. We have two catered meals but didn't say what we are having.

The wind is picking up here already. I need to move things off the carport that could be blown off. They are saying we could have 75 mph winds. I just hope we don't have more tornados.

The wind picked up here this afternoon and is really blowing out there!

I got new screws which worked fine. Two of the curtain rods (put together) are too short for the biggest window. I am also one rod short of what I need. I guess I forgot I needed two for that one window. So just ordered a couple more on Amazon. Will get those on Friday.
I have a corrugated roof over the porch (part of the carport roof) and there are gaps at the outside wall where the hot air can get in, so I sprayed some foam insulation in those gaps to close them off. But ran out of the foam spray so will have to go back to Home Depot tomorrow and get another can.
The curtains look real nice but I will have to cut some of them off and hem them. All my windows are different sizes (up and down, and side to side) so it is hard to make them all look even.

Will keep working out on the porch tomorrow since I am making pretty good headway in there. Lola's suction cup hammock isn't staying put. The suction cups aren't holding on the window. I cleaned the window but maybe need to clean it again and try again to see if I can get them to stick. I took away her saucer chair so needed something for her to lay on out there in the sun and let her look out the window. I have had this window hammock for awhile now so am finally putting it up. Hopefully, I can get it to stay put.

When I got out to my car after leaving WM, the guy parked next to me was really pissed at me for some reason. He started yelling at me from inside his car. He called me the "C" word several times, but I just ignored him while I was loading up my car and he was still yelling as he pulled away! No idea what his tirade was all about. I just tuned him out.

When I got home, the front gate wouldn't open for me. I realized the sticker I had on my windshield that signals the gate to open was missing. I had told the guy I needed that transferred to the new windshield but he forgot. The security guy let me in. I called the windshield guy and he came back and gave me the sticker. I had to glue it on the new windshield. Hoping it stays put, or I will have to order a new one which I think I would have to pay for again.

My feet hurt today. :( Too much standing on them at work this past weekend. When we are busy I don't get a chance to sit down very often and give my feet a break.

My neighbors across the street are leaving tomorrow morning so they brought over their golf cart for me to use this summer. They also invited me to come over and raid their fridge and freezer. Got some eggs and lots of cheese, and some butter too. :D

So it has been a busy day! Another busy day tomorrow.

Judy, that sounds like such an ordeal! As you know, you can't correct or reason with someone who has dementia. Personality changes and angry outbursts are common, unfortunately. Good think you don't have to deal with her very often. Taking care of someone with dementia is so emotionally draining!

before I forget Barbie have you thought about hemming them all the same length regardless the length of the window that way they should look uniform... also something to consider is putting something on the window to block the sun... that way it should slow down the sun rot on the back of the blinds.... not looked for anything like that but it seems like I've seen it in catalogs... just something to google
I actually used the air fryer today!!!!! we had pizza :) was so good I actually think it was better than fresh out of the box... although I think that the next time (there is still pizza in freezer) tomorrow I think I will reheat the coconut shrimp that has been in the freezer for awhile... need to google that as well
while looking at videos on how to reheat pizza I saw one on doing wings.... not that I eat wings but I'd like to re see it as I thought the person said to mix baking powder and something else and coat the wings with that baking powder???? that just doesn't ring right could see flour or cornstarch but baking powder??? of course I will never find it again...
did a couple of batches of laundry one is still in the dryer and will remain there till tomorrow... also took stuff down stairs that I guess I should have done a long time ago... need to wash some sheets.... I ought to organize the linen closet so I can find the right size of sheets... getting bored with these but then in the trailer I only had one set so no different..
Judy you have to supply the towels? that is a real surprise... how do they keep the laundry separate from all others patients? it's so sad when their personalities start changing.. we had a patient that just broke down about every day when once again she was told her husband had died...it's always new to them no matter how long he or she has been gone or how many times they have been told... I really don't know what is best to not tell them or to tell them... does she have visitors besides you? I always felt so bad for those that never had visitors.. but they also make it so hard to want to visit without meaning to... of the jobs that I had working in a nursing home was one of the hardest but also the favorite...
Beth it's a good thing you stayed still for a few days that just sounds like a wicked winds
you all have a great day

Sheila, once I have all the curtains hung up, I will see where I should hem them to look decent. Those windows had special outside sun screens on them to help keep the heat out but they need to be redone. My friend Dave will be doing that for me, so that will help too. I looked into getting the dark solar film on the windows but I read that you can't use that on double pane windows or the windows could explode! :o I might put that on the rest of the windows in the house since those are all single pane. I might get a portable swamp cooler for the porch as well for when I am working on my gourds out there. I sold my portable AC unit because it was so heavy and needed to vent out a window. Probably could have made it work but needed the money at the time. Swamp coolers are much cheaper and lighter weight, and should work OK since it is so dry here. I don't think they use as much electricity as an AC unit either.

I walked down to the mailbox tonight and discovered the landscape crew trimmed up a date palm down the street. Date palms have bunches of stems for the dates that are really cool looking for gourd art. (I have been thinking of going to one of the date farms out here to see if I could get some from them.) There was a ton of them left on the ground here so I scooped up a bunch of it, along with some other pieces that looked like I could use. It was dark out so could only see it with my flash light. Grabbed an armful and brought it home. Will go thru it tomorrow and see what actually is usable. I could probably sell a lot of the stems on line since they are hard to come by. I didn't even know we had any date palms here in the park! Might go back in the morning and take another look, if the landscape crew doesn't come back too early to dispose of it.
