Final Sunday in March

I am waiting for the Lamb to come to take March out. Here in Ohio it seems to be relinquishing its responsibility and and keeps letting the Lion March March March on......

The man in the recliner has tested positive for Covid. It probably means that though I tested negative both at home and at Urgent Care last week when I got antibiotic for the sinus infection I am probably positive now also. I am waiting until later in the week and will take another home test and home that the infection has cleared. Need a negative test or Jane and I won't be attending the dog show. I already texted CIndy so that she could make other arrangements to stay overnight. I am feeling so much better once I got the infection down and got my ears clear. Now just feel stuffy. The Man in the recliner has cold symptoms and feeling as one would expect with a bad cold.

To answer Sheila's question. Addison's disease and treatment interventions are lifelong once it develops. Audrey's age, she will be nine this summer, put her as an outlier. Most dogs develop it much younger. I think the average is 4-5 years old. When the technician handed me the prednisone she is to take daily, she repeated the dosage as listed on the bottle. One a day, or two if Audrey is under stress. I pointed to the calm Audrey wagging her tail at my side and asked if she looked stressed? Audrey has traveled back and forth across the country. Goes to stay with other people in a heartbeat. Has attended all sorts of dog shows and performance trials and keeps on napping and going out and doing her thing and wagging her tail. Maybe that "bomb proof" attitude helped her not show any symptoms or signs until now......

Oh, Tina, so very sorry to hear of Covid in your family. If you are positive, I hope and pray that you are already over the worst of it. Sorry, too, to hear about recliner man's positive test, and (of course) Audrey's health issue.

Everything, everywhere, seems to be "opening up", as pandemic fatigue sets in. This is very worrisome to me, with so very many still falling ill around the country. But what can one do?

Last March, a year ago now, when I was vaccinated, I was thrilled and happily looking forward to resuming real life, thinking that the pandemic would soon be winding down. False hope, I guess. And now I am reading that there - may - be another variant on the way.

It seems that we (as a people) are feeling finished with Covid. Unfortunately, it seems that Covid is not yet finished with us.

Hope your system clears the crud fast, Tina. At least you are feeling better. Sometimes I am amazed that I have not gotten it so far. Knock on wood.

Paid $3.84 for gas this morning, right before I saw it for $3.79 at Pilot and Loves along freeway!! Happy with $3.84 anyway.

Also saw young woman at gas station traveling with four kids under 10 and a huge 7-month old barking puppy that her kids were not strong enough to control on leash. Made me happy to have grown kids and no dog. All I could think of was “Lady, what possessed you to get such a big dog with all those kids???” All kids and dog were out of car, by the way, with poor mom yelling at all.

Your story of the the kids and out of control dog at the gas station is a reminder of how some lovely (especially large) dogs get dumped at shelters or rehomed by the time they are a year or a year and a half old. They appear so cute and family "picture" perfect but then no one remembers that they need to be trained. Doesn't give the dog much of a chance. Untrained children does not lead any of us to believe that they will ever manage to train a dog. One can just hope that none of the children end up getting hurt and the dog getting blamed.

Tina, I'm so sorry to hear about the Covid in your house and hope both of you recover without any difficult symptoms. Anne, thanks for checking in. I've been concerned about you and hope you and your dog are okay.

Sheila, We had originally planned on going to MD for maybe a month or so this summer, but with the fuel costs being what they are, we've decided to stay here in central FL. We have no family left in MD so would have gone back for crab feasts & to see a couple friends. Those would have been very expensive crab feasts, so maybe another year. We may take a week or two vacation, but even that is still up in the air. I'm glad so many of your family were able to get together for your brothers funeral and feel so badly for you & your Mom. Hugs to you.

Tina, sorry about Covid, but it seems to be happening to more and more people I know. Glad you are feeling better.

Sheila, I have been thinking of you. Read your brother's obituary online - quite a life he had. Military funerals give me goosebumps. Irmi, I don't blame you for staying in Florida this summer! I'm sure there are many travel plans changing due to fuel cost.

The phone to be shipped Friday might be shipped tomorrow. Not holding my breath. Waiting for the next basketball game to start.

I agree with the assessment of families and dogs. I can't tell you how many dogs I've watched turned in at the shelter because of, basically, bad parenting. I don't miss that part of my volunteer time because it was truly hard to bite my tongue.

Sheila, you and your family, especially your mom, have all been in my thoughts constantly the party couple days. I like that you all are finding the good but there's nothing good about your mom doing this for another child. More hugs.

I drove further yesterday and today than I like. My back is complaining. But I accomplished what I set out to.... I drove through Albuquerque today, Sunday. So much better than weekdays. I'm set up at a very inexpensive full hookup site at a casino and will stay 2 nights. Then a semi long day to Page AZ which leaves a short day to my destination. I filled the thank twice today. $231 in gas just today! I've still stayed at $3.99 and under, but believe that's ending now. I'm seeing very few rvs on the road. I've only seen this once before and that was the first spring of Covid. And there was almost no traffic that year. I have no clue how busy or slow this season will be. Don't tell the owners but I'm ok with slow lol

Anita, it's not mailed yet? Maybe they should send you a new phone. Crazy. And didn't you say they won't mail it directly to you?

Tina, I hope you can still somehow avoid Covid. However it goes, I hope you both recover quickly from what ails. I guess maybe we will all eventually get it. Hopefully our vaccinations keep us from the worst of it.

Tina, I agree with the bad parenting being the cause of most dog problems. I had a friend who was going through a divorce at the same time I was back in the 80s. She had two young girls, but was allergic to dogs, so her soon-to-be-ex bought the girls a golden retriever puppy with the promise it would stay at his house--yeah, you know how that worked out. Dog was completely out of control and friend wanted to make the dog at least stay on the first level, instead of in her bedroom at night because of her allergies. I had taken our first dog to training classes presented by the township parks and recreation, so I went over to her house one day and showed her how to teach it to sit and stay, and most importantly, not go up stairs. Worked out well, although she used to let dog clean up dirty dishes in the dishwasher--ugh.

When we got a second puppy when my kids were little, I taught it to stay in its bed while we were eating dinner. That took me about a thousand trips returning the dog to her bed, but it worked, although I did find out much later kids were sneaking her food under the table! I also taught her not to go on the road in front of our house, and she would stop at the curb if something went into the street.

Sit, stay, and come are not horribly difficult, but they do take some time. The lady and I got into a conversation, and I did suggest that she try to find some training courses she could take dog to, especially since it was so big. She thought that was a good idea, so maybe she will. Felt sorry for her trying to control that crowd of kids, but you make a good comment that parenting applies to all creatures, human or animal. She should have gotten a smaller dog and let the kids participate in training it.

Skipping training is not fair to the dog, either, because in their pack, they would learn rules from their parents. It is not cruel if you use the right techniques, and many dogs enjoy the interaction.

been a real quit day went out to go to church and the car wouldn't start worked fine that last time I drove it but it sure wasn't today so called my niece to see if they could pick me up and take me to church... which they did later in the day they came over to put it on a charger and get it started guess I some how turned on the parking lights and didn't notice and then when I closed the hatch it wasn't tight guess something got in the way ... oh my but according to nephew it started so hopefully it will tomorrow... need to go pick up mom's RX and get some grapefruit segments... maybe something else oh who are we kidding of course there will be more after all I can't not get more when I go to the store my husband used to give me a really rough time when I went into the store for "a gal of milk" and would come out with a couple of bags of groceries ... it hasn't changed at all
then I went and put a big yam in the oven for supper... went to check it to see if it was done and determined that it wasn't so opted for soup and toast we will have the yam and pork chops tomorrow... ought to see how to use the air fryer for the pork chops.
tomorrow need to also go and replace my charger...

saw some where on fb about a I think 28 ft camper and I can't remember the menagerie that it had but not only kids but several animals including a tortoise and rabbit I wish I could remember the rest of the animals perhaps several dogs... outstanding to say the least
guess mom hasn't had a bowel movement for a couple of days so she ate a couple of prunes and took a shoot the term has gone out of my mind but boy did the combo work ...
last night she went out of the living room I had assumed that she went to the bathroom but didn't come back I kept hearing sounds so finally went looking she was putting the dishes away this was at almost 12 midnight... shook my head and went to the bathroom came out and she was standing on a stool putting the glasses away I pretty much yelled at her.. that she didn't need to stand on the stool and don't say you don't fall she says it's been a long time the other time you said I feel I bent down to pick up something and slide down and couldn't get up... so ???? I told her that I just wanted to relax and putting the dishes away wasn't on my agenda... oh well what can I say
when I get another dog will need to make sure that I get some training... the only training Shadow has was what he had before I got him perhaps he would have not done some of the things he did that annoyed some people..
